Work titans? WHAT HERESY IS THIS...
HERESY!? YOU DARE QUESTION THE UTILITY OF THOSE MACHINES CREATED BY THE ANCIENTS!? YOU ARE THE HERETIC!!

But seriously, as far as I can tell, all modern fighting titans were designed by the Mechanicus itself.

The first Titans were built during the Age of Strife on Mars, as a way for the newborn Cult of the Mechanicum (Adeptus Mechanicus) to effectively fight its enemies in the raging Martian civil wars on the Red Planet's irradiated surface.
So not during the Dark Age of Technology - the Age of Strife. There's no way that the Mechanicus could or would design a titan entirely from scratch and they didn't get the fighting titan designs from the Dark Age so they probably took work designs and converted them to war designs. Like the Land Crawler.

Called the Father of Titans, the Castigator claimed to be the "original" Titan, as it was first designed during the Dark Age of Technology, and that all subsequent Titan designs were but crude copies.
"All subsequent Titan designs were but crude copies." Does that sound like something that would refer to Dark Age battle titans or Mechanicus-repurposed work titans?

O I know about the Castigior I even asked @durin about it around page 1000 and he was mysteriously silent about it at the time.
Ok so maybe we get designs for civilian titans, and then redesign them for military use.
we can do that right.

Just went over the options from the regular turns and here's my early ideas for what to do now.

Munitorum
- Recruitment Drive (if an option)
- Massed Deathstrikes (we never have enough of these)
- King of Battle
- More Siege Infantry

Void Command
- Orbital Defenes (locked)
- Construct Merchantmen (locked)
- Naval Evaluation

Administratum
- Enlarge Factories (locked)
- Underground Railways (locked)
- Educational Exchange

Diplomacy
- Sound Out (Colonization)
- Lobby For Quartock (Svartalfheim)

Arbites
- Spy Network?
- Something Else? (I expect new options will be available here)

AdMech
- Expand Forges (locked)
- Under the Sands
- Next step for Congregation Asps?
- Finish an STC? Given that we've just lost some of our shipping capacity from this war, the Hydroponics STC might be a good choice to free up some of the food shipping from Alfheim to Midgard.

Ministorum
- Good Deeds (Alfheim) (Locked)
- Orders Dialogos translating Dark Eldar data?

Astra Telepathica
- Neo-Astropaths: Receivers (Locked)
- Research something.

Personal
- Family time
- Tutoring Syr
You forgot that this is one of the rare chances to have a AdMun and AdMech action line up so that we can make the Phase-Tigers stealth power-armor Grenadiers.

I didn't forget it at all. It's also not exactly a rare chance. So long as there's a free Military/Personal action and a free or Forge AdMech slot open we can do it. I'd be fine waiting until next turn if we can, tbh.

Speaking of actions, what do you think of my plan to turn Syr into a living saint, Enjou?

...wut?

No, sorry, it doesn't work that way. You can't just turn someone into a living saint of the Emperor. Saint Lin has the trait "The Last Saint" for a reason - with the Emperor dead and his soul not really in a state where he can do much actively, there won't be any more living saints for a long, long time.

This was durin's ruling on the idea:
4. Given how well you have been rolling for characters for this quest I can see that happening
Even if we can't/don't turn Syr into a real living saint, something good's bound to happen if we keep letting Saint Lin tutor her.

Honestly for the plan I think it might be worth expiditing a shipyard. Also for upgrades new ships will have the Improved armor and other tech we got from completing the ancient defense cruiser stc.

Educational exchange is a must to meet our commitments plus it would finish on turn 155 right when it would go online.

For void expidite a shipyard this year. Next year take the continously merchantmen production. Next would be to start producing escort and light cruisers to help the navy recover.

For admech we may want to consider doing the setup for the ship graveyard along with searching the ruin on avernus we have access to. Hopefully to find more ship tech. Mainly ancient defense cruiser finished some of the well options, made others easier and moved some to the stc category.

Thay is big as well options are two turns while stcs are one turn.

Also from the well I want to get modifiers so we can get the ship production tech. That will be big for the trust as it allows us to replace losses faster

Speaking of Castigators, do we have anything that can kill one?

((I'm sorry Andres. I trully am but I must do the following...))

"psssst. I heard ya lookin for something to kill of them Castigators?"

*Opens trench coat*

"Take a look at my wares. I got here Avernite soldiers, Governors own, a pre-fabricated fortress, a crapton of tanks, and if that don't work for ya.."

*Looks around nervously before opening the other side of the trench coat. It reveals a Phase tiger unit that's off duty*

"This is the dreaded Phase Tiger unit from Avernus. Ever wanted to sneak up and kill your enemies with super humans that were the pinacle of human strength? These the guys ya looking for then. These lot on me decided to go train after their last campaign interested in them or anything?"

I'm not saying Lin shouldn't tutor her, just don't expect her to get Lin's saint powers.
Ok, this got me thinking. Freya's Tainted Bloodline trait comes from many of her family being psykers, relatively speaking. One in ten of those with Tainted Bloodline become psykers at some point in their life. Freya's own father developed psychic powers well after the usual age they're found. What that means is Syr - as one who holds the trait - has a one in ten chance of being or becoming a psyker.

Or at least she would, if she were raised on Vanaheim. But she wasn't. She was born and raised on Avernus. Avernus, where the "one in a billion" Gamma/Delta psykers number 42 (153 if you count those still in training) on a planet with a population of 3.6 billion. That's 11.6 (42.5) times the number of Gammas/Deltas than normal! Syr is 11.6 (42.5) times as likely to develop psyker powers than anyone else in her family (barring perhaps Freya)! I...don't actually know the math to work out her chance of becoming a psyker but it's a lot higher than 10%!

It's late and I'm tired so I might be misremembering my stats, but wouldn't that just be a % increase?

So 0.1 + 0.1 (increase) = new chance?

So 0.1 + 0.1 (0.12) = 0.112 for a 11.2% chance now on the low end?

Or on the high end 0.1 + 0.1 (0.43) = 0.143 = 14.3% chance?

I guess it's a significant increase in chances at the high end, but nothing to get excited about.

Or is my exhausted brain making a foolish error?

The formula should be:
(Chance of a child being a ___ Class Psyker on Avernus) * (1 + increase in chance of psyker-hood by the Tainted Blood trait)

The formula should be:
(Chance of a child being a ___ Class Psyker on Avernus) * (1 + increase in chance of psyker-hood by the Tainted Blood trait)

I'm guessing that you theorize a dice (D10 or D100) is thrown in to help detail what type she would be? An then the rest I can't really picture. Is that 1 + (input another dice here)?

The formula should be:
(Chance of a child being a ___ Class Psyker on Avernus) * (1 + increase in chance of psyker-hood by the Tainted Blood trait)

So I did remember the formula right.

I just made the assumption that psyker development is primarily determined by bloodline and that the Avernus Warp Touched adds a bonus effect to that.

On what grounds do you argue the opposite?

An absolute increase of 1.2% seems too low for something that's multiplying the odds by 12.

Maybe, but I didn't check your numbers. Too tired.

So I just accepted them as true.

Let me think... oh wait. I misread your numbers as percentages, when you meant them as multipliers.

Yeah, that's where the error is. If we have 11.6 times more psykers than we should, that does not increase Syr's chances by 11.6% It increases her chances by 1160%

So that means the chances are actually...

Low End: 0.1 + 0.1 (11.6) = 1.26 = over 100% chance?

That can't be right...

Well, let's review assumptions:

If tainted bloodline is the base chance and Avernus just increases the impact of the taint... (which seems the most sensible view, based on psyker power being genetic, but considering the weirdness that is Avernus can't be certain of).
And assuming that the increased effect of Avernus on tainted blood operates linearly (which now that I think about it is almost certainly wrong, since there is an upper bound of 100%. Probably need to impose a log on the natural number or something...)

UGH. I'd have to get my textbooks out of storage...

You know, my eyes keep sliding shut, I think I'm just gonna leave this here and let someone else figure it out.

See you in the morning.

Jeebuz, we need a voice of authority.
@durin: Can you explain to us how the Tainted Blood trait affects the chances for someone to become a psyker? Mechanicus-wise I mean.

no, you do not understand the complexities of psyker genetics, (no one does) and therefore all I will say is that it increases the chance of psyker powers developing. Avernus will further increase this but not to the point where it is near certain

Might be able to take a guess at it using Baye's theorem if we know approximately how many people who are psykers have a family history of being psykers.
