The Galaxy is Flood, Not Food

There is a case to be made for the Warp and Slipspace being the same thing, considering that both of them display characteristics such as inconsistent travel times, strange in transit occurrences, and requiring special devices to ensure that the ship isn't lost. The hostile nature of the Warp in 40k was caused by the War in Heaven, which Halo did not have (although you could argue that the Precursor/Forerunner conflict was similar to this).

The "actually is the warp" always been a bad 40k fic trope

Because it takes anything special from settings and turns it into chaos and the emperor bitch

Well, but considering this would be a naturally-born Altered instead of being infected, meaning they would have the Flood as part of themselves from the very beginning, would that not have some sort of effect on their souls?

Ehhhh, maybe? I don't think the change would be that different from a regular Altered. They're still people, they still have Warp-based souls, they've just got those strings connecting them to Tide.

I mostly want slipspace out of narrative consistency

If neural physics are feasible then slipspace shpuld also be feasible

some extra considerations like "dont exit slipspace in middle of a warp storm or you end up inside the warp" still apply

But the core logic of "use alt dimension to travel" should still be feasible

[X] Yes, give Tide SlipSpace Access.

Once shit calms down he is going to have enough brain/neural mass and tech-people that he can figure out skip space, it will be slow as fuck and probably max out at unsc levels as he tries to keep the "karma" of using skip space to a minimum…then again since he isn't opening portals to LITTERAL hell that karma might grow into positive interactions with the universe…

And hey maybe eventually he will at end-game hit covenant levels of slipspace for his altered to travel while he creates a few star roads within the "heart" of his territory.

[X] Yes, give Tide SlipSpace Access.

It makes sense given his past and abilities that he would have this, although he'd have to research it.

Yes on slipspace with the caveat that he needs significant research to do it. He has the neural physics and knowledge of that sort of thing, so it should be possible to reverse engineer it.

Yes he needs the safer option of FTL travel screw warp travel that shit is wack, I personally would take the long way and die of old age before I EVER set foot in the warp there is NOTHING about it that makes it worth it NOTHING!

Alright, I'm gonna do something I don't normally do and put the question of how the story will go in the future to all of you: Slipspace Travel. Should Tide gain access to it in this story?
The humans in the Flood's home universe figured out how to use Spilspace on their own, including building the drives themselves, so the only reason Tide wouldn't be able to do it would be if something in the 40K universe was actively interfering with it.

That said, the Four in the Warp are just the tip of the bullshit iceberg that has been plaguing those metaphorical waters since time immemorial. It wouldn't even surprise me it there was something else in the local Slipspace that could be just as hazardous.

Considering how much the Forerunners used Slipspace and they also knew neural physics is a thing, I'm not entirely convinced they aren't part of the same tech tree, so to speak.

And Slipspace has some interesting limitations already built into it, like needing to account for causal reconciliation, especially over long jumps. If you ignore that you start running into the consequences of time dilation, among other things. Maintaining the quantum field required to prevent your ship becoming a cloud of elementary particles along with maintaining your course through 11 non-spacial dimensions above our normal 4D space-time also requires some absolutely insane processing power, millions-trillions of calculations per second, scaling upwards with mass of object transiting and distance travelled.

Give him something along the lines of what the Tau have or the Tyranids. That would keep him out of the Warp.

Another doubt is when will the MC be desensitised to killing people for bio-mass. Because it's 40k and everyone becomes desensitised to the loss of life. Life is the cheapest currency in that God forsaken galaxy. If the MC can get over that mental hurdle he can become a key mind on this planet itself.

I think if the Tau can have a safer, though slower method, of FTL then Tide should as well.
That's potentially not correct- the Tau have shallow dive warp engines.
If the Warp can be compared to a massive ocean, then Tau FTL pushes just below the surface. Human drives dive a few hundred feet down. Orks have a party in a bathtub like Moses on bath salts. Eldar use webways.

I agree give Tide slipspace, he can already teleport anyway. Besides I think how the Navigators and other Imperium factions react to the fact that TIde has non Warp based relible if slow FTL will be interesting

Okay I know tide is going with a banished proxy faction for one of his two main forces. One his true self the other his ability to negotiate with other factions aka the banished / covenant expy into the setting. But hear me out. He has a shit ton of altered. He's going to win the planet so it's not a matter of if but when and what. So what does he do with his population of altered and Mabye nuns with guns. Well after he's eaten all the elite forces he should just make different breeds of super soldiers.

Make his own spartans. Bio engineered brutes and spartan equivalent elites. Make his own special bio armor troopers along with this and just reverse engineer most halo tech. Because dude that would actually be super cool. Plus if he can get the industry. He could have covenant super carriers and brute cruisers. Honestly I see the possible space battles to be awesome.

Also once he gets the chance. He should totally team up with comander farsighted of the tau. That guys is now the only other real I'm not gonna commit war crimes good guy in the setting. I can see the two of them being great buddies. Like chief and the aribter. Also for the simple reason of mechs. Everybody likes mechs.

Edit: I just realized he is on the segmentum obscurous side of the galaxy and will be one of the few people who can safely get from one side of the galaxy to the other without having to go through the warp
