#StickiedForAReason
Votes that do not follow the template will not be counted!

At this time I am using a counter system, listing the number of days votes take to be put into action. However for write-in votes you don't know how many days an action may take. For this we will use the old system of Major/Minor Decisions, and I will tell you how many days/weeks/months the plan will take. Remember that every month has 28 days, and that there are 13 months in the year with New Years as a special day alone outside the months. There is no leap year, as their calendar is not accurate to that degree.

Major decisions are any new endeavors. Finding new investments. Finding new allies (specify what type, where you're looking if possible, what you want from them, etc) finding new trainers, starting new training even if it is with people you already know... Anything new.

No mixing something that would qualify as a minor decision or free action into your major votes! If you have a question about your votes, ask me.

Talking with specific people about specific subjects. You can generally only talk with one person at a time with this. There are simple logical exceptions, Husband & Wife combos can be put together as one conversation, brother & sister, stuff like that. I'll clarify if a combo is unacceptable when I see the vote. This is also for continuing any long term action. Any major decision that you have already voted to start (not just mused about in-story) can be a minor action the next time around. Continuing training that you have already begun for example. Continuing a long-term investigation or plot. Stuff like this.

Making small talk with characters. You will not learn anything special really, but it gives you more insight into their backgrounds and history, can raise/lower their loyalty or other relationship points with you, etc. Raising/lowering and how much depends on rolls.

These can interrupt any current action(s) and will take precedence over the current plan. A way to change things on the fly as you discover new information or alternate ways to potentially enhance your plan, or change it completely if needed.

Remember for all votes if you take a guard or other individual with you, you will need to write-in which guard/person you take with you (just saying take a guard or ally will leave the decision of which one up to me) and also whether Daenerys tries to use any future knowledge on the decision as well if it is one of hers or she is present. (She still may decide to try and use her future knowledge without your consent if she thinks it necessary.) These details are sub-votes.

[] [Plan] X (Current Month, Short Term, Long Term, Immediate Actions, Purchases, etc.)
-[] Major Decisions: Character name here
--[] Major Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 1
--[] Major Decision 2
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 2
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 2
-[] Minor Decisions: Character name here
--[] Minor Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Minor Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Minor Decision 1
--[] Minor Decision 2
-[] Free Actions: Character name here
--[] Free Action 1
---[] Sub-conditions
--[] Free Action 2
---[] Sub-conditions

You get the jist of this.

However, under the plan vote, you will then put a "Priority" Vote.

[] Aegon Priority: 1. Major Decision 1, 2. Free Action 2, 3. Minor Decision 1, 4. Major Decision 2, etc.
[] Daenerys Priority: 1. Free Action 2, 2. Major Decision 3, 3. Minor Decision 1, etc.

This way we can vote on the general plan, then I can separate the order of events in said plan.

Don't put V1, V2, or any other such revision information into your plan. Just leave it like I have it. Nothing extra. The tally system will update to your newest post. No need to make version markers. It just makes things harder for me.

If an action in a plan is not one for a specific character, more a general idea of what needs to be done, it will still need to go into the priority matrix.

At the end of all your votes, put your reasons explaining your vote choice. As I've said before, a plan with reasons will get more weight than one without. Because reasons matter. I care about reasons more than numbers. I need reasons to help build the characters. Get used to putting reasons into your plans, as eventually reasons will become a requirement rather than a suggestion. This post will change when that occurs.

[] [Plan] X

You may (but are not required to) put additional reasons to agree with that plan beneath your vote if there are reasons for it that the original vote creator didn't put in that you thought of. The more/better the reasoning inside explaining a vote, the greater the chance it will be added into the story.

Votes are typically closed after either 12 or 24 hours unless real life interferes. Ties will be either decided by me, or by whoever is in the forum or the Discord that has not voted already at the time. I will @ whoever is currently in the forum or Discord that I choose to be the tiebreaker.

Plans have specific timelines. Immediate Actions are obviously immediate. Current Month is similarly self-explanatory. Short Term is something that can conceivably be done within 1-3 months, and Long Term is 3-6 months.

Not a Shirou/Archer fan but I'll say this.

Plenty of characters have the whole "save everyone" thing as part of their motivation

Thing is they don't succeed 100% of the time.

But what matters is that they try, even if not accepting cynical ideas such as Necessary Evils could debatably make things worse

Like Batman choosing to never kill the Joker. Because of his rule and possibly speaking resurrections or evil replacements.

It's the principle of the matter(not the consequences)

An Ideal Hero isn't someone that does everything perfectly. An Ideal Hero is a really really really good guy who's not some edgy antihero going on about Hard Men Making Hard Decisions which include letting people die or not showing mercy.
I think I'm in agreement with you, well except on Batman not killing Joker anyway. That's just him being a "hero" and heroes in that continuity are arrogant as fuck. "Killing isn't bad when cops and military do it to protect the people, but I'm better than that." Yeah okay, fuck off heroes. Killing doesn't have to lead to evil, though they always try to portray that in the comics. The point here is that I'm warning you all ahead of time, because people in the conversation I had before seemed to think that "We'll free the slaves and everything will be sunshine and rainbows and we'll have their undying loyalty" until I started pointing out that no, it won't be. So I was heading that off again.

As for Westeros, well most people seem to want to avoid Westeros. IC you aren't but that option will be coming up. Of course, the people reading have changed, some left and some stayed and we have new readers too, so that might change as well. We may end up going to Westeros after all. I don't know, and don't care either way honestly. I'll write the story organically as it goes.

As in all things, it's a choice of easy now or hard later. You get into power and abolish slavery it's "hard now" just to get Westeros, the only continent that I know of that is dead set against it. You don't abolish slavery and it's "hard later" if/when you do decide to go there. Unless you guys go totally evil/utilitarian and wait until they're being overwhelmed by the Others before you go, leaving them unable to do more than complain about it anywhere except in their heads because they need your armies... But that would certainly be evil.

Evil on your part, not Aegon's. He doesn't know that the Others are coming after all. He's worried about another threat lol.

It's also the quickest way to literally have all the important people in Western Essos hate us - with the exclusion of Bravoos who probably already hate us. It's just not feasible plan now or even in the next few decades, unless we want to spend all our time dodging assassins and rebellions. You'd need ground work, a secure reign (dragons?) and years of proven rulership, to actually implement something on this scale successfully.

Couldn't we play the long game? Explain to your people why actively challenging slavery at this point will just get you all killed but instead try to initiate social change. It'll require Aegon being in a position of power and to start subtlety with propaganda. It'll eventually leave the groundwork needed to end slavery and also gives the formed slaves the impression that your actually doing something about it.

You'd need a reputation but even small things can initate social change, like using the 'nicer' slavemasters for business rather than their easier alternatives. Or verbally favouring 'capable' slave owners. The 'in' we have with the Valyrian religion would also be good to spread how slaves should be treated. Start with better treatment, then social isolation for cruel slavemasters, then initiate smaller law changes (e.g. Slaves may only be lashed XXX times) and eventually end slavery. Economic usually follows social change so we'd have an easier time on that end too.

The big problems in this plan are the time it would take and that it requires a solid reputation along with social finesse. Being a dragon rider would speed it up immeasurably.
You certainly can work that way, but being a dragon rider won't make it easy. Remember canon? People cared that Dany was a dragon rider when she was on her dragon. People won't care about your dragons when you're upsetting their way of life. They will wait until you aren't with your dragon and just try to kill you then. There are always those who will try to kill you. But this is all warning for later for those who thought it would go easy, you can certainly play the long game, or free them immediately when you take over, or keep slavery a thing. I will write whatever you all vote when the time comes.

I'm personally OK with using slaves for our Palaquin (since it seems we don't have a choice in the matter), but that doesn't mean we can't treat them decently.
You certainly have a choice... you can always buy some slaves who have no skills, free them, then offer to pay the now free but destitute people to work your palanquin. It just depends on what you care about more - personal squeamishness about slavery, or making people outcasts knowing that you would be ahead of time.

Basically it is when your morals clash. One moral says "slavery is wrong" but the other says "making people's lives worse when you have other options is wrong". You have what is called a "moral dilemma". An unskilled slave who has only carried palanquin their whole lives would be unable to find work. You would be effectively "trapping" them into working for you, (and only you since everyone else will use slaves and not hire freemen to carry them) and thus they'll be stuck, and they'll still be social outcasts like I mentioned before. Of course, as slaves they're stuck too, just not outcasts among their own social class. Decisions decisions...

Honestly, I don't have any problem in this instance with keeping them as slaves. It's the best possible scenario for both them and us, at least until we get to a point where we don't need a Palaquin anymore; at which point we can free them and offer jobs as either servants or guards.

We aren't in the modern day, and so we can't think like that. Besides, it's not like owning a slave in a fictional setting where 'you' are also controlled by like 30 other people over the internet makes you a bad person.

All the people who are worrying overmuch about this are just being dumb. It's a story, and Slavery is socially acceptable in this story and setting. We can't change that now, and I don't know if it would be IC to try and change it right now, so calm down about it. There are more pressing issues to deal with; like managing the world of *shudders* polatics.

Basically "Get The Damn Dragons Already!" Plan needs to be set in motion.
Someone is eager to get dragons before the canon timeline... I hope you still don't think that "I have dragons" means that suddenly everyone just obeys you? Because that's not a thing. They can make intimidation and war much easier though, I'll grant you that.

For one thing it'd be better to ride than a palanquin or an elephant.

Are you certain of that? Every story I know says riding dragons in hard. For good reason. They fly and they are fast. Wind is a thing. You need a harness, unlike in the show where only imps need harnesses. And no one has made a dragon harness in hundreds of years. It'll take some testing to see what works and what doesn't. Now if they're being slow and careful? Sure, bareback is possible. Otherwise? Nope.

Those images of Aegon and others at war on dragonback without a harness is obviously artists being fanciful. Much like the fancy looking armor and weapons that would be useless in reality. I like the fantasy imagery as much as anyone, but the real thing? Isn't pretty.

I'm not discounting the difficulty of flying nor the equipment we'd need, but it's still flying. When we get everything we need and work out a proper harness and saddle it'll be more than worth it. I bet we wouldn't be able to drag Dany out of the skies. But yes, no bareback. That's just asking to die.

For some reason I saw "easier" to ride rather than "better" to ride. How that happened I'm not sure. Foot -> Mouth.

Oh we definitely have to have war elephants in our army after we take over Volantis.
We've got to show up the Golden Company when the Blackfyres decide to challenge us. :p

EDIT: There is a f!Aegon in this quest with Jon Connington, right? Because I know the real son of Elia and Rhaegar is dead, but not if Varys made his move and set up an imposter.

Or, y'know, Giants and Mammoths.

Would be better to have all three.
Save the talk about them until we are actually somewhere near Westeros. I'm frankly tired of the discussion on them, since there is nothing to say about it until there is something to even feasibly consider IC. The future of Essos is something Aegon can and should be considering seeing as he currently lives there, and the future of Westeros, to some extent since he wants the kingdom back, but past the wall? Right now to him Giants are myths, Wights are myths, Others are myths, and Wildlings are not even a thing he thinks about. Once "Beyond the Wall" is something in-story, then feel free to bring it up. Until then, no more talk of wildlings. We've talked about them far too much over the discord. The topic is banned for now.

Okay... gotcha, just made an off-hand comment, really. But who doesn't want half of the world in resources when war is coming.

I know it was a side comment. We've just talked about it so much that I'm sick of talking about them. And if I want to make a fair judgement rather than a simple "nope not happening" when the time comes, I need to not be tired of even hearing about them at that time. Right now I'm so sick of this topic that I'd just have them all be dead out of spite, and I don't want to be an asshole like that, so give me the break from them that I need so I can be fair. It seems like it's been brought up at least two or three times a week for the entire time I've been writing, and I know some weeks it was brought up almost daily. I get pissed the second I even see the words "Wildling" or "Giant" or "Mammoth" now. And that is with me liking the idea of giants on our side. You all by your lonesome, are bugging me with this topic to that extent. I need a break from it.

I thought of trying to break the topic with the thread, but since you're tired I'll stop.

Thank you. Much as I try to be fair, I'm only human. Even I can just get so sick of hearing the same thing that I just lash out emotionally instead of logically. Once I've had a few weeks not hearing about them, I'll be fine. I just need to talk about something else for once.

So... Dragons, dragons, dragons...

We need to hatch those mo'fo's.

Also, I forgot to ask.

How fantasy Is this combination?

Does trolls exist? Orcs somewhere raiding around Sothoryos?

Day 5 of the Eighth Month 297 AC
Winning Vote

While at the bank, inquire as to the possibility of purchasing or renting a private dock for your fleet. Space/warehouses to store supplies for any future voyages would be useful as well. Look into all properties that are available for purchase. Both inside and outside the Black Walls (Even if you are not yet allowed within the Black Walls, you can still plan). Ask about the process of starting a business in Volantis.
This is now put off for the Dragon Bank.

Check on your personal possessions. Dragon eggs, V. Steel Shield, rare books, everything else important and/or irreplaceable.
Dany took care of this.

[X] Send Laena out to listen for rumors. Give her some funds in case she needs it (3GT, 20GD, 25SD, 50CW). You've met foul creatures on the seas and need to know if there are more about. Other rumors could also be useful. 1-2 days searching.
-[X] Have Laena ask Nelaehra for advice and points of interest (places to go and avoid).
-[X] Zaros had contacts all over, does he have some here?
Will be covered in an Omake.

-[X] We've already asked Vezenka to make a fairly large purchase on our behalf. If this is true, we should ensure anyone we bought from has been given their due.
You now know that they were not paid the increased fee, but won't be able to try and fix that until tomorrow.
—[X] If some legal trouble has befallen them, we will try to explain the confusion and resolve the situation.
A Laena Omake will resolve this.

[X] Purchase several temporary palanquins immediately.
-[X] Commission the construction of proper ones as soon as possible.

—[X] If none of them are willing, Purchase twice the number of slaves needed to do the job. Have them take shifts to make the job easier on them.
You'll get to buy some slaves inside the walls. There are ones for sale here, but the best are sold there.

Day 5 of the Eighth Month 297 AC
The morning goes by quickly, but futilely. You and Daenerys go out with Vezenka and Laena to try and find the man she purchased the buildings from, but they are gone. The owner of the shop is rather disappointed. They apparently took their commission of the sale, gathered their few possessions and left immediately. He had to cancel several plans to cover this shop himself until he can find a new worker to replace them. When he hears that you haven't paid the Blood Tax, he pales.

"My lord, real estate is a very expensive business. if you don't pay the extra for the tax and I get caught..." You reassure the man that you are here for that very thing. After going over his documents for the prior year's sales, he finally charges you 3000 Talons for the tax. "Of course, that keeps me safe, but if Kesazirie gets found out, I pity him and his son..."

You shake your head clear of the memory and keep walking the length of the ship. There's nothing for you to do. Dany already took stock of the inventory, ensuring that no one went off with anything they shouldn't have. Some books are missing, but only a few. Nalaehra said that she took some as they were potentially dangerous and she didn't want to risk corruption by someone reading what they shouldn't. Once she has gone over them and sorted the safe from the unsafe, she will return them. You'll need to keep the dangerous ones locked up somehow. 'So many problems and so little time...'

Unfortunately you are stuck waiting for a messenger. The priest said that someone should be coming by today to grant you documentation that proves your and Daenerys' status as members of the Old Blood, which will allow you entry into the Black Walls, as well as any you bring inside as guests. Your guests will not be allowed to live there of course, but they can stay for a few evenings before someone comes to remind you that they need to leave.

You already have a pavilion for yourself and Dany sitting outside the ship. It cost you 300 gold to rent it for the time it will take your custom pavilions to be made, but that included the slaves to carry it. You'd considered having your own people lift it, but the store owner warned that men unused to carrying the weight all day might drop you, and that would not do anything towards helping you make a good impression on the city.

Still, your custom palanquins will be ready in a month, and you'll need to get someone to carry it. You bought:

[] A simple palanquin. You might obey the custom, but no need to be flashy. 50 Dragons.
[] A noble's palanquin. Best to appear similar to the ones you need to impress. 500 Dragons.
[] A king's palanquin. A palanquin in the style of the Triarchs, as a Dragonlord it is only fitting. 1500 Dragons.
[] A custom palanquin. You are a Dragonlord, the last of your kind. You will one day have dragons reborn into the world. You are above any mere Triarchs, and your palanquin will show that. 5000 Dragons.

The sun is nearly setting when a messenger finally arrives carrying your documents, barely making it in the allotted time. Another slight from Qavo no doubt, keeping you out of the Walls for another day as it is far too late to find accommodation within. Or is it? You'll need to go to the Dragon Bank on the morrow to safeguard your treasures, and you'll need to take some time to see the available properties for you to buy, but you do have an invitation to the priest's home...

[] Stay on the ship until tomorrow. You will not be separated from your gold before it is secure.

[] Go into the walls and visit the priest. The men will guard the ships while you are away.
-[] With Daenerys.
-[] With Nalaehra.
-[] With Laena.
-[] WIth Vezenka.
-[] With... write-in. You get how this works by now.

[] Go into the walls and stay at an inn. You're tired of staying on this ship.
-[] With... write-in.

Having made your decision, you go to talk with Daenerys and let her know what is happening.

Tonight, (or tomorrow) we enter Volantis proper! Time for all the things to happen! Or start happening anyway. Also, expect awesomeness inside the walls. Per the books, there are "palaces" inside. Not castles, palaces. The difference? A castle is generally just a bigger fortress. Not a pretty place. A palace is like the Disney castles you see in their movies. What most people think of when they hear or read the word "castle". This "house" is gonna rock.

ASOIAF Wiki said:
Built by the Valyrian Freehold when Volantis was no more than an outpost of their empire, it is considered the heart of Volantis and only scions of the Old Blood able to trace their ancestry to Valyria are allowed to dwell there.
The Black Wall is so thick that six four-horse chariots can race around its top abreast, which is done annually to celebrate the founding of Volantis.
The Black Wall protects a large labyrinth of:
  • palaces
  • courtyards
  • towers
  • temples
  • cloisters
  • cellars
