You don't have to try and come up with pilots, you know. You can choose to just vote for the ones you want instead.
I tend not to have strong opinions on stuff like this. Though I'm not sure I much like EVA's pair. But that's more because they have character traits I dislike than anything else.

Edit: Then again, I'm not sure I like much about how Phenom Sable seems to be being themed/fluff'd. Hence why I should probably just stay out of this entirely.

Initially, Phenom was also going to have long gorilla arms, but I chickened out when I was marking where everything would go. Also a broader torso - my original idea had a chest and 'ribcage' that looked like a Dorito.
And I'm glad you didn't stick with the Dorito body, we make fun of people who skip Leg Day for a reason. :V

Just finished drawing up a (somewhat messy/cruddy) concept of Phenom Sable ver. Fyr actually. Took some of the hints on making him bulkier and blockier, and using more of the F-type design instead of normal Eva armour.

Of course, it's just a concept-- I'm gonna have to tweak and change several parts of the design before I'm satisfied, so that it looks 1) good, and 2) not like two and a half giant robots smushed into one. Still, it's a start.

Some of my own thoughts:
- Pelvis/stomach looks way too much like an Eva. That's gonna be the first thing I change, because it also turned out awful.
- Legs are also gonna get a minor revamp, so they don't have massive unarmoured weakpoints in the knees.
- The CMP-5s and Combat Sabatons still look like the ones on Jagdhund, and yet seem... strangely appropriate.
- Arms could be longer and larger, but otherwise look pretty decent.
- The vents could be moved around a bit. The ones on the arms look kinda off, as do the thigh ones, but the chest and knee vents work together nicely.
- With the head, I was trying to add in two pairs of fake 'eyes' above and below the visor, to kinda mirror the headlights on Jho's Sable pic and Eva-02's eye cameras. Still could use some work, but the head does look fairly nice.

That looks really good! Though I do have to agree that the pelvis and stomach don't look like they fit very well. And he does need poleyns.

As for the overall build, I think it's good even if the legs look a tad wonky (but I know just how hard it can be to draw good-looking legs). The arms are interesting in that they came out more... biological-looking than I expected, but it works well enough. It could still use some more hard angles on the chest and pauldrons, in my opinion, but it works as it is.

Those might just be my favorite version of BIGGER, SCARIER HANDS so far. They're not perfect, mind. Still not sure why they inconvenience it from wielding weapons, as the smaller hands still look fairly unimpeded for gun use. But I've had that problem with a lot of these drawings, and this is the probably the most scary of the bunch, and also fairly large.

they're a lot more... curved? than I thought they'd be? I expected them to be more or less what was in the gif I posted when proposing them.

Actually, it just occurred to me that it's probably because it turns the smaller hands off. Jaeger's are humanoid to better match the native nervous-sysyem of the pilots, after all, and I don't know all that many people with four hands. Activating the talons probably switches the "hand" signals from "small hands" to "bigger, scarier hands". So it's less that the talons get in the way and more that they can't operate the gun themselves.

Hm. I suppose that makes sense. But I still think the smaller hands should be handled better. Maybe have them fold inwards at the wrist, when the talons are active. Otherwise, they'll interfere with the talons. After all, I don't recall too many humans with large lumps on their palms. And such a thing would certainly be a pain when trying to grip something.

Eh, the Banshee's aesthetics are nice, but not exactly what I was looking for. A bit too blocky for my tastes.

Close, but not quite. Most of the time, the Talons are actually going to mirror what the smaller hands do-- though both are capable of moving independently-- which tends to get in the way of using handheld equipment. The splitting signals also causes the smaller hands' fine motor skills and pressure sensitivity to suffer a little (though that isn't much of a problem when the talons are being used how they're supposed to).

Edit: I'm really just waiting for votes or pilot submissions at this point.

Interesting in theory, but I think the smaller hands are more going to get in the way than anything else. They're going to impede the talons from closing fully, given the current layout. Or, worse, the talons might crush the more fragile hands. I think my previous suggestion of having the hands fold inward at the wrist while the talons are active would fix that rather neatly.

Alternatively, the hands should be smaller, compared to the talons. Make it so the talons, when folded entirely, either naturally stop before reaching the smaller hands, or miss the smaller hands entirely.

Edit: You could also just have the talons fuse with the fingers of the smaller hand, but I think that's a bit far from the inspiration.

...And I have an easy solution. The attachment point for the Talons can let them shift downward on the forearm when active, enough that the normal hand essentially is the palm, rather than protruding out of the Talons' palm.

Again, concept drawing. I'm gonna be making changes later, when I eventually re-draw the thing. It'll all be fine.

1) I really need to get to drawing up version two of my own Phenom Sable design idea.

2) Taking my own shot at character design...

[X] Nathan Curry (Right) & Nathan Kravinsky (Left)
-[X] Heroic/Charismatic (Curry); Patient/Violent (Kravinsky)
-[X] Nathan Curry is a former US Navy SEAL who transferred into the Pan Pacific Defense Corps after the Kaiju war began. Well noted for his outrageous bravado while still remaining a true professional when called on to do his job. Sports peak physicality, stands at just over six feet tall; has a sharp blonde haircut, and an impressive full-facial beard and mustache that he's quite proud of.
-[X] Nathan Kravinsky was originally a Russian bodybuilder who was beginning to make a name for himself in the Professional Wrestling circuit, but felt a duty to a higher cause after the Kaiju attacked. At least, that's the official story; while he'll never admit it, rumor has it his real reason for joining was that compared to Kaiju, wrestling mere humans is passe, and he has hopes of getting to pilot a Jaeger so he can wrestle a real opponent. Stands at just under six feet tall, built like a professional body builder, is clean shaven, has a dark brown flat top, and deep eyes with thick, furry eyebrows that consistently look like they could kill a man just by glaring at them hard enough.
-[X] Nathan Curry and Nathan Kravinsky met after each arrived in Seattle. They quickly grew to be close friends, with each displaying a competitive streak that they play off of one another. Each one is driven to be the best they can be, and are proud of the friendly rivalry they've developed that continually pushes them to top one another.

[:V] Charles S. Atlas and Yamada Saitama
-[] Left and Right sides, respectively.
-[:drevil:] Hot-blooded/disciplined and Kind/Eccentric
-[] Charles is a man who was inspired by his famous namesake into trying to become the strongest man alive, leading him to becoming a bodybuilder and, later, a pro MMA fighter, achieving much fame for both his name and fighting skill. Saitama, on the other hand, dreamed of being a hero and defending the weak, and eventually joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Both were on vacation with their families in Seattle when the Tod der Jaeger happened. The one thing both men have in common is their dedication to training, learning new techniques and improving themselves, all in name of achieving their dreams.
-[:V:V] Charles is a handsome black-haired man with huge muscles and a friendly, jovial disposition. Saitama, on the other hand, looks like an unassuming Japanese man, but his slimmer build hides a wiry musculature. He has black hair, somewhat unkempt, but much to his alarm the hair on the back of his head is starting to thin and he fears he will soon get a bald spot there.

I am not sure how much of this is a joke. :V

Well... I'm not making any progress figuring out Bane, and I honestly like this more than the other suggestions so far, so...

Well, I suppose it's not the worst references... though I will point out that Sable's not a punching Jaeger, he's a grappler-- so maybe having guys themed after punching might not be wholly appropriate from a thematic standpoint.

Other than that, I don't actually have any problems.

That's far more amusing.

But just imagine what they could do if they did go the wrestling route!

This space is a placeholder for pilot writeup.
EDIT: Here we go, son.

[X] Pilot Plan KnightDisciple
-[X] Mark Huber [Left Hemisphere; Disciplined/Experienced], Windham Ruud [Right Hemisphere; Observant/Eccentric]
-[X] Mark is a tall, dark-haired, pale-skinned man who's spent years in a Connpod. He lost his brother to the Kaiju, in a fight he doesn't like to talk about. He's come out of retirement recently with barely a word about why, but he's in fighting trim still, even if he tends to unsettle base personnel when he's found roaming the halls late at night. Something about his silent stares and haunted eyes. Or maybe it's just his odd choice of off-duty wear, involving a wide-brimmed hat and a long coat. Mark tends to speak few words in a fight, and the ones he does speak are as efficient as possible. As are his tactics; he prefers direct, overwhelming offense once he's gotten the measure of a foe. His height puts him in the same general size range as the legendary Alexis Kaidonovsky, albeit with less flamboyant (if longer) hair.
-[X] Windham is barely more than half of Mark's age, but somehow seems cut from the same cloth. But where Mark has an air of slow inevitability to him, Windham has a much more manic tint to his moods. He comes off as a bit...different...but that odd behavior masks a razor-sharp mind that sees more than he lets on. His odd ways are a tool that allows him to never be predictable; he does trust people, but he's naturally cautious, and these are fell days (in his own words). He tends to push to take the initiative in a fight more than Mark, but often it just gives the veteran pilot a chance to come up with a plan that can see them both through. Windham's own form seems a bit out-of-shape for a Jaeger pilot at first, but his performance makes it clear he has what it takes, and both he and Mark have gotten helmets that accommodate their longer-than-strictly-regulation hairstyles, with Windham's also not overly impeding his impressive facial hair.
-[X] The dynamic between the two pilots isn't quite paternal, but it is most clearly a case of a veteran mentoring an up-and-comer. There's a strange synchronicity between the men at times, and for all their differences in styles of dress and speech, there's an undercurrent of both having similar dour, almost fatalistic outlooks on the world. Which just seems to push them to fight all the harder against the Kaiju...

Names blatantly mixing Undertaker (Mark) and Luke Harper (Huber), and Bray Wyatt (Windham) and Eric Rowan (Ruud). I apologize for nothing.

Okay, if the "One-Punch-Man and All Might" duo keeps gaining votes I'll just switch to @EvaUnit01 's vote. I like putting the Undertaker in Phenom Sable but bluntly I'd rather some kind of wrestler expies make it in than anime expies.

I'd rather have Major Armstrong.
That would be pretty awesome.

Wait...was that who Jawa was going for, with...*checks post*...Nathan Curry? If so, he could have communicated that a little better. Or maybe I'm just slow on the up-take.

Given that half of his duo might be an anime expy, I dunno if that's the choice you want it be making.
