There was an awakening of sorts among the swords. There was an attempt to capitalize the connections between the swords, but it completely failed. There was also an attempt to improve the swords themselves, make them even more deadly then they already are, but this yields no results as well. Instead, everything is focused on forging a stronger bond with their weilders minds and it definitely succeeds. Those who resisted their swords before, no longer do so, and they become much more insync. The swords also gain a great deal of influence over their wielders, and it isn't a one-way street. The swords gain some of their weilders intelligence as well, giving them the capacity for longer term planning, among other things.
Those who survive the battle, swear to stay together, the bonds of battle holding them close. They decide to stay together, and form there own company. They are not yet sure of it's purpose, but they form it none the less. Now, there is several options available to them, from scavaging the battlefield to burying the dead.
