Glad to see Newbie roll a crit on her saving throw vs. Isekai.

Also glad you hate PoD as much as I do.

[X] Take a moment to consider

Rushing in isn't doing anything except making named characters look cool at the expense of mooks, and we can't count on everyone to roll 10s. We've got a numbers advantage and little else so let's look for openings.

Well Bad thing those guys are fucking useless so we need to rely mostly on our troops.

Silver lining, the fallout of this Will not be as Big as if that other skeleton got out of the closet.

Hey, at least they soak hits for you! 😅
Also, you're still going to have to deal with that other skeleton in the closet after this.

Yep at this point not going for ZAFT back when the political vote was up was for the Best.

That skeleton will probably just incite the ones up there a lot more.

Battle of Kawasaki City: Round 2 and aftermath
Winning Vote:
[X] Take a moment to consider
-Try to figure out patterns in the way the enemy is Boson Jumping, and any limitations this might cause, and then capitalize on that.
-Dragonar-3 will make this easier due its range-detection and electronic warfare equipment

September UE 0083
Kawasaki City, Japan

You are Kaine Wakaba, and you're having a hell of a day.

"Fire, fire! Don't let them do any more damage to the city!" One of the M9 pilots shouts over the Solar Vanguard freq.

You're about to ask where you should go to help when one of the Jovian machines suddenly Boson Jumps behind Dragaonars 1, 2, and 3.

"Ah hell, move!" You say as you, Tapp, and Light scramble for cover.

The three of you barely manage to sprint around an intersection before everything on the street you just left is pancaked by the crushing force of a Gravity Blast.

"Oh man, that was close. Hey, sergeant, you guys still alive?" You try to radio the commander of the Nemo squad that dropped in with you.

"Alive and kicking. We were on a different street, so we're fine." The leader of the Nemo squad responds.

You let out a small sigh of relief.

"Hey Kaine, I just noticed something. You guys go on ahead, I think I have an idea." Light speaks up.

The leader of the Nemo squad designates a pair of Nemos, one armed with a beam rifle, the other with a 170 mm cannon, to protect Light and Dragonar 3 while the rest of you go ahead to engage the remaining three Jovian machines.

You are Light Newman, and you have a hunch that you're on the verge of a breakthrough.

"Nadesico, this is Dragonar-3, can you send me all the sensor data you've collected since you arrived at the sight of the battle?" You ask.

"Affirmative, sending it over now." Ruri Hoshino responds.

As Dragonar-3 receives the incoming data, you take a look at what it sees in the surrounding city through its advanced range detection equipment. You pull down a seldom-used keyboard and type in a few commands for the onboard AI. After that, you get back in contact with Kaine.

"Hey guys, I have an idea. Can you provoke one of the Jovian machines to Boson Jump?" You ask.

"They do that on their own so much I'm surprised you're even asking. Any specific reason why?" Kaine responds.

"I think I might be able to predict where the Jovian machines will Boson Jump to. I just need to see it in action to confirm my theory." You explain.

"Good enough for me. You might want to get a little closer so you can better data. Tapp, come on, let's find the closest Jovian machine and throw as much as we can at it!" Kaine says.

You watch the blinking icons for Dragonar 1 and Dragonar 2 move toward one of the Jovian Super Robots. You move Dragonar 3 closer, leaping onto the roof of a half-destroyed office building for a clear view, your Nemo escorts following behind.

"There it is, shoot it!" The commander of the Aries squad yells.

"Devious aliens, you will not use the image of my beloved Gekiganger for evil!" Gai Daigouji shouts.

All of the Aestivalis, Dragonar 1, Dragonar 2, and the rest of the Nemos fire their weapons as fast as they can at a Jovian Super Robot. The bullets, cannon shells, railgun slugs, and beam rounds are all deflected by the enemy machine's Distortion field. As soon as the enemy machine Boson Jumps, the impromptu formation scatters.

Light Newman uses Scan!

As you look about the city, the Dragonar 3's onboard AI pings you.

"Alert, high concentration of designated exotic particles detected." The AI informs you, highlighting a specific location.

You waste no time in keying every friendly frequency.

"Guys, I think I've got it! The enemy machine is going to appear at point FX-3!" You say.

"You sure?!" The Aries commander says in disbelief.

"I'm pretty sure!" You respond.

Kaine and Tapp position themselves in an alleyway directly adjacent to point FX-3, while an M9 armed with a bazooka takes up position behind a convenience store.

"Enemy rematerializing in 3...2...1...now!" You call out.

M9 fires bazooka
Roll 1d10 + 6 Ability + 2 (Dragonar 3 EWAC)
Roll 4
4 + 6 + 2 = 12

Result: The Jovian machine is blindsided before it can raise its Distortion Field, and is destroyed as a result

At the same time the concentration of exotic particles peaks, you see the telltale signs of something rematerializing from a Boson Jump.

"Eat this!" Kaine yells as he empties his railgun rifle at the specks of light.

"Come on!" Tapp lets out a battle cry as he fires Dragonar 2's shoulder mounted railgun cannons.

"Firing!" The M9 pilot calls out as he lets fly a round from his bazooka.

The Jovian robot has materialized for perhaps a few milliseconds when the first of Kaine's railgun rounds impact its torso. Tapp's railgun cannon slugs slam into it next, and the M9's bazooka round is the cherry on top, breaking past now damaged armor plating and apparently taking out a vital system as it explodes, as the enemy machines lists to one side before falling into over a nearby pond and exploding.

"Ha, that did it!" Kaine shouts in excitement.

You send over your predictive model to Akatsuki in his air frame Aestivalis as you explain things.

"It's as I suspected, the Jovian machines can't keep their Distortion Fields up when they Boson Jump. Couple that with the sheer amount of exotic particles they give off when they go in and out, and it actually becomes a bit predictable if you know what to look for."

"Mr. Newman appears to be correct. Akatsuki sent over the predictive model that was given to him, and Omoikane says that it looks like it should work for most cases." Ruri says.

From there things go downhill for the Jovian Super Robots, as with their most decisive advantage basically nullified, things rapidly turn into a shooting gallery when the third Jovian machine Boson Jumps in an attempt to ambush what's left of the Rick Dias squad. It's Gai Daigouji, of all people, who gets the first strike as it remateralizes.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB4WmjgBHlQ

"Evildoers who prey on the innocent! You will not tarnish the image of Gekiganger anymore! Taste the fist of my soul, GEKIGAN FLARE!" Gai yells as he charges forward and leaps into the air, using his Aestivalis' Distortion Field for a ramming attack.

It turns out he timed it just right, as the Jovian machine is facing the wrong direction while this is happening, meaning it has no idea what it's in for as Gai's Aestivalis makes impact with its waist.

The Jovian machine stumbles as the Rick Dias squad, the remaining Linear Gun tanks, and the Aries squad draw a bead and unload everything they have. What ensues looks more like a mech-scale execution rather than combat, but considering the damage they've done to the city, you're not inclined toward sympathy for the Jovian machine at the moment.

The enemy machine falls to the ground in pieces, the largest intact portion belching smoke and fire.

"One more left!" Ryoko says as she turns her Aestivalis around.

"Thirty degrees to the left, in three seconds!" Akatsuki calls out.

Ryoko, Hikaru, Izumi, and Itsuki turn to face the rematerializing Jovian machine, firing as soon as the specks of light start coalescing into something coherent. The enemy machine takes several rounds to the torso before Boson Jumping again, slumping backwards against a high-rise building after it rematerializes.

"Alert, massive energy spike detected in enemy machine." Dragonar 3's onboard AI warns you.

"Oh no! Guys, I think the last Jovian Super Robot is trying to self-destruct!" You alert the others.

All of you fire on the Jovian Super Robot, but it's managed to bring up its Distortion Field, and all of your group's shots deflect off of it uselessly.

"Hey who's that?" Izumi says, apparently having noticed something.

Your attention is drawn to an unpainted Aestivalis ground frame approaching the Jovian mech at high speed. It jumps onto the roof of a half-collapsed building next to it and opens its cockpit, revealing Akito Tenkawa.

"What the hell's he doing?" Ryoko wonders out loud in confusion.

You zoom in and see that Akito is holding an attaché case. He reaches back into the cockpit of the Aestivalis and grabs a portable radio.

"This is something only I can do!" Akito says over an open frequency.

Akito then opens the case and flings it at the Jovian Super Robot. You see dozens of small, blue crystals spill out of the case as it flies through the air. Instead of bouncing off of the Jovian machine's Distortion Field as you expected, they cling to it and start glowing. At the same time, you see numerous glowing lines appear on Akito's body as he assumes a posture of intense concentration. There's a bright flash of light, and for a moment, Dragonar 3 is momentarily blinded. When you get the main camera and sensors back, you see a portal similar to the ones Chulips create has formed above the Jovian mech, which is rapidly sucked in, followed shortly after by Akito.

"Akito!" Kaine yells in alarm.

The portal closes immediately after Akito goes through.

Results and aftermath

2 Jovian Super Robots utterly destroyed, 1 disabled and the wreck recovered
Damage to Kawasaki city: Moderate, but mostly contained in an area around Nergal's research facility. Essential infrastructure such as the city harbor was not affected, though there were several dozen civilian casualties
Preliminary analysis of the Jovian wreck by Uribitake and his crew suggest that the machine is, in fact, piloted, and when the head unit was opened up, it revealed an empty cockpit blaring the Gekiganger 3 theme...

Akito Tenkawa apparently Boson Jumped two weeks into the past on the moon, where he has been trying to contact the Nadesico or an otherwise friendly organization since, and has only now gotten through.

Unrelated development

A double agent in the Neo-Zeon remnants has reported that they're making a big move. At the same time, an EFF patrol fleet reported a cargo ship known to be used as a makeshift mobile suit carrier by the Neo-Zeon remnant faction known as the Sleeves was seen making for Industrial 7 at a breakneck pace.

Londo Bell has already dispatched the Nahel Argama to Industrial 7, which should be able to make it just in time to intercept the Sleeves' ship outside Industrial 7. Celestial Being also reports that the Gundam Kyrios is on standby in the area.

The Nadesico is making for the moon to pick up Akito, while the Ra Cailum is heading to Industrial 7 to assist with the situation developing there.

The Archangel is unavailable due to being in the middle of a patrol route in the Oceania region.

VOTE BY PLAN

Which ship will the Budapest go with?

The Budapest has Patrick Colosaur, Graham Aker and Daryl Dodge, the HRL Experimental Unit (Sergei, Soma, and some conscripts) having upgraded to the GN-X, Zechs, Noin, Duo Maxwell, and Trowa Barton.

The Ra Cailum has Amuro Ray, Kamille Bidan, Fu Yuiry, Judau Ashta, Roux Louka, and Chang Wufei.

The Nadesico has its Aestivalis complement, Uruz team, W-0, the Asura Strike Force, and the Dragonar Team.

Hm... An empty cockpit blasting Gekiganger...Wonder if Gai's got a Doppelganger(3) wandering the city?

And that battle turned out really well for...the absolute disaster that was the local garrison's initial wave (seriously, if the commanders are still alive I want them on toilet duty for the rest of time). Dragonar and their awesome theme really saved it!

I'm...tempted to split here, actually.

Send Mira one way, Budapest another.

...Ok, I'll admit I have practically no knowledge here. The most I have is Nadesico is probably going to be messy, but Gundam also tends to be pretty messy... But at the same time, we're going to be seeing some of the Nadesico events regardless, and the Vanguard is involved no matter what...so...

I want to say...

EDIT: ACTUALLY, scrap that plan I need to ask. What are the total forces heading to or at Industrial 7, real quick? Because that list of Ra Cailum units is looking thin, almost Hard Mode anorexic.

My vote is entirely hinged on what forces are on the Nahel Argama and what support we know about on Industrial 7, because the Ace Gundam Squad is not something I'm fully comfortable banking the entire battle on.

Ooooohhhh noooooooooo that one's up next.... this is gonna suck... and Unicorn is about to wake up. And we're sending a small army of Newtypes. Shit.

We have to go with the Ra Cailum. NTD will activate at some point, and if all of it's supposed allies are the very Newtypes it exists to slaughter... it won't end well. Especially since we don't have any Psychoframe units to try to shut that monster's powers out. We need the Rose to be on site to stop it. On the other hand, that reveal is about to drop and I don't know if the Nadesico team can handle the impending political shitstorm alone.

[X]Plan Oh Hell No
-[X] Mira: Ra Cailum
-[X] Budapest: Nadesico.

Quick question, is there a reason nobody gets to bring any Super Robots on any of these ships?

That bad? Hm...The thing I'm torn on is simple.

The Nadesico actually has a decent contingent of it's own present, while the Ra Cailum is essentially just an Ace Gundam Squad. If the Newtype issue is that bad...that'll leave us with only Bright and Wufei as safe units, maybe Allelujah. That's a disaster in the making.

I want to reinforce the Nadesico, but even our Ace Protagonist Stats are probably not going to help the unfolding disaster in 7 too much.

My pick for who gets the Budapest hinges entirely on what support we're getting from the Nahel Argama and the known local forces. I have no doubt we'll see some assistance aside from them if things are going to shit really hard, and I'm picking Mira going that way regardless...but I really don't want to be sending the UC Ace squad (with special guest Chang Wufei) into that with just Mira as known backup.

Meanwhile, the Nadesico has a pretty solid mix of FMP, CG, and Dragonar units backing it up. While it could be better (why oh why are there no Super Robots for any of these picks), it's above and beyond the Ra Cailum.

Distortion Field and Lambda Driver should fake it well enough?

Not to mention Dragonar just stomped the major advantage of Boson Jumping hard.

EDIT: Welp, let's hope our Lord and Savior Mazinkaiser doesn't have to intervene in a Newtype Genocide...

My decision hinges entirely on what support we're getting from the Nahel Argama and the known local forces.

Provided we don't have canon divergences, the Nahel Argama's mobile suit contingent is made up of ReZELs IIRC, with the only notable pilot being Riddhe. Other EFF forces present for the raid on Industrial 7 include D Type Jegans, more ReZELs and 2 Lotos (which are mostly there to smuggle the ECOAS teams inside the colony). If we stretch things a bit, there's also the Clop-class Cruiser with 2 D Type Jegans and 1 Stark Jegan that was pursuing the Garencieres in canon (it is possible that the patrol fleet that spotted the "cargo ship" is the Clop I've mentioned).

If the Newtype issue is that bad..
The Unicorn's NT-D stands for Newtype Destroyer. It exists literally for the sole purpose of hunting down and slaughtering any Newtype it encounters. The damned thing can even hijack other people's remote weapons, so if you have Funnels that just lets it kill you faster. And it is entirely capable of pulling a Psycho Gundam and taking over from the pilot. The thing's a full body Psychoframe, so it doesn't even need a Newtype to pilot it - being a Newtype just prevents your own machine killing you within five minutes.

It's that bad. Unicorn on a rampage is not something to screw around with, under any circumstances. It's just that the impending political shitstorm the Nadesico is sailing into might actually be WORSE.

Ok, so we're either praying to god our Newtypes can actually counter this...somehow (very unlikely, given that it was probably developed with pilots like most of the ones we sent in mind, probably based off them), we beg for Mazinkaiser to rescue us, or we rely on Mira or Wufei to counter it if we don't send the Budapest.

...I am very, very uncomfortable with that, as it's a plan incredibly reliant on those that aren't immediately countered and, like I said, between Uruz, Dragonar, and the Code Geass units the Nadesico has actual...support.

If it helps, NT-D stayed under control this time in canon. It was a later incident that saw it take over and get all murdery. I'm mostly worried because... well, because it's an incredible powerful MS with a control system designed to kill Newtypes. If Amuro had the Nu or Hi-Nu, which also have Psychoframes, I'd be a lot less worried, but he... doesn't. A Mazinkaiser Interrupt would be highly appreciated, but I don't think we're that lucky. Really wish Setsuna was there - if anyone can be in close combat with RX-0 and live it'd be him.

And yeah, the Nadesico is in a better position for the fight. I'm not actually worried about the fight though. This is where we find out the Jovian Lizards... aren't, and the political clusterfuck we are about to endure will make every piece of political bullcrap in the quest so far look like a minor scandal.

Why does the meaningful discussion always happen after I go to bed?

Quick question, is there a reason nobody gets to bring any Super Robots on any of these ships?

The reason nobody gets any Super Robots this time is because of a few reasons, which will be explained in the story in the next update. However, I will say that a lot of them are dealing with minor incidents with the antagonists of their own story, so they're a bit occupied.

Also, given that no one has picked up on what's happening with the Archangel at the moment I'll just drop this much...

ATHRUUUUUN!
KIRRRRRRA!

Mostly because I haven't moved the Gundam SEED plot forward since you rescued the Archangel from North Africa, and potentially having Kira face off against the Unicorn Gundam in the goddamn Strike just...doesn't seem fair to him.

[X]Plan Oh Hell No

Scary though Unicorn is, I think we can afford to split forces. Low key, I'm actually more concerned with having a reasonable and authoritative commander to deal with the coming plot dump on the moon, and as much as I love Yurika, that means Kati.

Meanwhile, Industrial 7 is by its nature a stealth op gone south with only a couple ace machibw, and throwing a large number of units at it is counterproductive. Unless someone else decides to start shit in the chaos anyway.

I think we want to go all-in on Industrial 7 here, since I doubt sending the Budapest over with the Nadesico is going to help with regards to the upcoming revelation from Martian Successor Nadesico's plot. Also, the Industrial 7 event might also include the follow-up attack on the Nahel Argama by the Sleeves (which, in canon, resulted in the capture of the Unicorn by the Sleeves), so we could use more mobile suits there, because Full Frontal is quite a dangerous foe.

As for Seed, we're starting to get close to some pivotal moments in its plot, to the point where we may want to consider taking actions related to its plot if they do pop-up in future turns.

Here we go again, with a late vote to tie it up. Sorry Wafer.

Edit:

[X]Plan Oh Hell No

I don't think I want literally everyone on Industrial Seven... actually.
