Yeah Cleff and Lantis for sure are some of the most well versed in cephiro Magic.

Dunno about the rest.

There is also the mascot but I doubt that one wants to blow his cover that he is the god of cephiro this early.

Are we sure about leaving Lantis behind? He's actually relevant as a unit that can fight, so leaving him behind deprives of his capabilites for a time. Cleff can be left behind, as for who else... Ascot could maybe help? Studying the monument could also potentially help with his summoning capabilites...

EDIT: Throwing a plan into the mix, opinions are welcome...

Kek, what about throwing all of them at the problem? Just a big conference of magic users. Is there anything that we need anyone on the list for?

Anyone not included is going to go back to assist in the defense of Cephiro. Remember that the Council and Jama Kingdom are still fighting to try and establish a foothold there.

Also, Ferio and Lafarga aren't magic users, for reference.

As far as romance goes, I just don't see any of the Rayearth girls having feelings for Clef, aka the bastard who tricked them into murdering a heartbroken princess.

[I'll admit, Clef's deception was more complex and nuanced than what's stated above. And he was turned into a stone statue before he had any chance to question his initial choice. But it was still a betrayal and abuse of trust].

Ain't Clef literally the guy who's holding Cephiro Citadel by his magical power?

This is a very different plan.

I mean, my plan was mostly to try and get people to tell me why the people I chose were a bad idea.

Though, keeping Lantis away from Hikaru is probably for the best anyways. He already has a fairy waifu, and as everyone knows 'Having more than one waifu will ruin your laifu'

Again, Lantis is one of the strongest figthers among the people we can send to study the monument and I don't feel like he provides anything relevant for that anyways. Cleff is the best magic user that can be sent (not that he has many competitors, given that only Ascot and maybe Caldina could fit the criteria of well-versed in magic; everyone else isn't that good at magic), even if one could argue that he could be needed back home.

July UE 0084
EFF Temporary Command Post, the Gobi Desert, Mongolia

Within the command post's command tent, Zero, Kouji Kabuto, Tetsuya Tsurugi, the EFF Colonel, Shinobu of the Dancouga team, the Magic Knights, Tarta and Tatra, and those from Cephiro convene.

"Any idea what the monument was supposed to do?" The EFF Colonel asks.

"Not yet." Clef shakes his head. "But I think I'll be able to determine something once I get a better look at what's left of it. Even with Ascot helping me, it might take a while to make any meaningful headway though."

Hikaru gives Clef a look of concern.

"Wait, I thought you said your magic was keeping the Royal Castle from collapsing along with the rest of Cephiro! What will happen if you aren't there?" She asks.

"It should be fine for now. I set up the enchantments such that the only thing either those from Fahren or Chizeta will have to do is feed magical energy into the castle to sustain it. I'll only have to return to address it if something major happens." Clef explains.

"More concerning is the fact that Debonair is attempting to gain a foothold in our world as well." Zero speaks up. "What reason would she have to do so?"

"Hell, the more I hear about this Lady Debonair, the more she reminds me of Muge Zolbados..." Shinobu grimaces.

"I thought I heard somewhere during one of the times I was there that Cephiro and our world are...intertwined? Don't remember where I heard it, but maybe that has to with this?" Kouji asks, hand scratching the back of his head.

Clef sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose.

After a bit of speculation, the EFF Colonel begins to write his report while everyone else leaves the command tent.

Lantis and Hikaru walk off on their own toward the command center's barracks, Kouji and Tetsuya following a bit behind.

After a bit, Hikaru stops walking and turns toward Lantis.

"Thank you...for helping me with Nova." Hikaru says, blushing heavily.

Lantis is about to say something when a tiny fairy with green hair and a pink dress emerges from beneath Lantis' cape.

"Primera." Lantis says sternly.

"No!" Primera says, shaking her fists in anger. "I won't-"

Whatever Primera has to say is interrupted by Mokona emerging from seemingly nowhere and tackling Primera to the ground then sitting on her.

"Puu!" Mokona chirps.

As Primera impotently pounds her tiny fists against Mokona in a vain attempt to get him off of her, Lantis turns his attention back to Hikaru.

"It was no trouble." Lantis says.

"But...Nova is dangerous! You saw for yourself! So why..." Hikaru trails off.

Lantis wordlessly places a hand on Hikaru's shoulder, who, after a few seconds, buries her face in his chest. Lantis places his other arm around Hikaru in an embrace.

Primera makes to let out an unholy screech of rage when Mokona gags her by putting one of his feet on her mouth, the fairy only able to glare at the white puffball.

Kouji has to put his hand over his mouth to stifle a chuckle, while Tetsuya can't help but smile. After a few seconds, Hikaru glances back and realizes the two pilots from Photon Power Labs are watching and immediately separates from Lantis with a yelp. Kouji wordlessly flashes Hikaru a thumbs up while Tetsuya gives a friendly wave.

Only then does Mokona get off of Primera. The fairy looks like she's about to launch into a tirade when a resigned expression appears on her face, and she simply flops onto Lantis' left shoulder, her energy spent.

Ferio and Fuu sit down in the command center's mess hall with trays of food, both exhausted from the battle. Neither of them touch their food for a bit.

"Why did you come out to help?" Fuu asks. "Isn't the situation in Cephiro getting worse?"

"The people from Fahren and Autozam are capable of handling things at the moment. The Council and the Jama Kingdom are fighting each other as much as they fight us, which gives us opportunities like this. Besides, why wouldn't I come out to help you?" Ferio says.

Fuu chuckles.

"Thank you. For your devotion, you may kiss my hand." Fuu says, holding out her right hand.

Ferio takes Fuu's hand in his own and kisses it before Fuu strokes his cheek. Both of them laugh before starting to eat.

"I must say, the food is quite flavorful!" Ferio comments.

"You wouldn't say the same if you were eating field rations." Fuu says.

"Oh?" Ferio raises an eyebrow in curiosity.

"We have the benefit of eating food prepared in a field kitchen." Fuu explains, gesturing behind the counter where they got their food. "It's designed to be prepared easily and quickly while being nutritious. Field rations are designed to be nutritious and quick and easy to prepare but not as appetizing so that soldiers won't eat them all at once. EMERGENCY rations are designed to be nutritious and able to be eaten as is, but as unappetizing as possible so that soldiers will only eat them, as the name suggests, in emergencies, when all other food rations are depleted."

"Well, that only makes me even more curious! I'd like to try a few myself, and I daresay that an emergency ration would still be more flavorful than the meat jerky and hardtack I pack as travel food, if what I'm eating now is any indication." Ferio says.

"Now that I think about it, you might be right." Fuu chuckles.

The two of them lean in and touch their foreheads together.

"Get a room, you two!" An EFF soldier says, several others jeering.

Fuu and Ferio immediately separate before laughing.

"I'll see if I can get some field rations and emergency rations for you." Fuu says.

"I'd like that." Ferio says.

The two of them resume eating while discussing the differences between Earth and Cephiran cuisine.

Umi sighs as she sits down on a crate, having just had an exhausting discussion with the Black Knights about the possibility of further incursions from Nova and Debonair's forces.

As such, she doesn't notice Caldina approaching until she hugs her from behind.

"Caldina!" Umi says in surprise.

"How are you doing, sweetie?" Caldina asks.

"I'm exhausted." Umi states plainly.

"I can see that much. Those people in black sure had a lot of questions for you." Caldina says.

"Zero doesn't like leaving things to chance." Umi says.

Caldina nods in understanding.

At that moment, Tarta and Tatra approach.

"Oh, your highnesses!" Caldina says in surprise.

"You haven't returned to Cephiro yet?" Umi asks with a raised eyebrow.

"That EFF Colonel wanted to talk with us a bit more, try to get an understanding about magic." Tarta says.

"You sure he didn't just want an excuse to ogle you two with the way you're dressed?" Umi deadpans.

"Please! If he wanted to do that, he would have asked Caldina to stay too." Tarta scoffs.

"Anyway, how are you, Umi? That last battle was quite frightening." Tatra asks.

"Tiring." Umi says.

"I can see that." Tarta rolls her eyes.

"Sorry, it's just that I'm still processing a lot of the stuff that happened. Having to talk with the Black Knights afterward didn't really help things..." Umi gripes.

"I can imagine." Tarta says before she glances to the side, a grin then forming on her face. "Say, you want to get your mind off of things a little bit?"

Tatra and Caldina glance in the same direction that Tarta did and share a mischievous look with her.

"Oh yes, let's! So, do you prefer Clef or Ascot?" Tatra says while clapping her hands.

Umi sputters.

"What?!"

Caldina pokes Umi in the cheek playfully while pointing at Clef and Ascot in the distance.

"Come on, don't tell me you can't see that they both fancy you!" She says. "Why do you think Ascot grew so much before you came back to Cephiro?"

"And the way Clef looks at you differently than the other Magic Knights! So, who do you like more?" Tarta asks.

Umi sucks in a deep breath.

[ ] Clef

[ ] Ascot

Clef, Presea, and Ascot watch from atop a dune as EFF and Human Reform League forces secure the area around the ruins of the monument.

"It's interesting." Presea says suddenly.

"What is?" Ascot raises an eyebrow.

"When the Magic Knights first met me, they thought I needed metals from their world. Seeing the metal giants and vehicles they've made with those materials is...a new experience." Presea explains. "And they have to use forges to do so."

The three of them look up as a pair of Flags fly overhead.

"Hm." Clef nods. "Only the Jama Kingdom seems to be able to use magic in this world, but the other things they have access to..."

"Newtype phenomena, Quantum Brainwaves, Geass, Song Energy, Getter Rays..." Ascot trails off, trying to recall the many things explained to them.

"The only metal in this world that even comes close to what can be found in Cephiro is Super Alloy Z. That, combined with the energy known as Photon Power has given rise to what can only be described as a Rune God cast from metal." Presea says.

"Master Clef, do you believe that the warriors of this world will be able to help the Magic Knights overcome Debonair?" Ascot asks.

"We can only hope so." Clef sighs.

After a bit, Presea parts ways with Clef and Ascot as the two of them start to make their way toward the ruins of the monument.

Frontier Fleet, Island 1, Kinryu Memorial Hospital

You are Alto Saotome, and it breaks your heart to see Sheryl Nome in such a state.

"She's crashing! Charge the defibrillator and get 80 ccs of cardiac stabilizer ready!" A doctor orders as Sheryl's EKG monitor goes crazy.

It turns out the reason Sheryl collapsed was because she had contracted a V-Type Infection at some point.

"Clear!" A nurse yells as Sheryl is shocked by the defibrillator.

V-Type infections are technically curable, but only in the early stages. By the time someone starts showing visible symptoms, the infection has typically become untreatable.

Sheryl gasps as the cardiac stabilizer takes effect and her heartbeat becomes normal again.

You bury your face in your hands and struggle not to sob. Ranka's become swamped in work, performing almost around the clock to bolster the fleet's morale, and so she hasn't really had much time to visit Sheryl. Sheryl's manager Grace also hasn't returned any of your calls or messages to her about Sheryl's condition.

You're brought out of your thoughts when you notice Uruz Squad approaching, 'Sophia' being escorted by them in handcuffs.

"What's going on?" You ask.

"Sophia says she knows something that might help." Mao says, rolling her eyes to indicate that she doesn't trust her.

"Why would she want to help?" You ask in confusion.

"She refuses to say why." Sosuke says quietly.

You pinch the bridge of your nose.

"Well, can we trust her?" You ask.

"Sophia wrote down a partial chemical formula. We sent it to Tessa, and she says it looks legit, but, well, you know how Whispered tech can be sometimes." Kurz shrugs.

"As it is, it doesn't seem like you have a lot of options right now." Closeau points out.

You sigh.

What do you do?

[ ] Leap of Faith
-Closeau is right-you have no options aside from watching Sheryl slowly waste away from her V-Type Infection. You'll do anything to help her at this point.
-If legitimate, will stabilize Sheryl for the time being and allow her to assist back in the Sol System if necessary.

[ ] Verify
-Force Sophia to detail the entire chemical formula and treatment method of what she wants to do, and have the Frontier Fleet's medical community verify its legitimacy.
-If legitimate, will stabilize Sheryl as above, but delay it until next turn. Roll 1d20. On an 8 or less, Sheryl's condition will worsen slightly.

[ ] Deny
-You don't trust Sophia-not after the hoops Amalgam has jumped through to try and capture her. You hate watching Sheryl suffer, but you don't want to risk making things worse for her.
-Every turn until the Macross Frontier finale, roll 1d20. On an 8 or less, Sheryl's condition will worsen, and the die will be downgraded to a d10. Repeat on the d10 on subsequent turns and downgrade on a 4 or lower. Repeat with a d8 on subsequent turns, downgrading to a d6 on a 2 or lower, downgrade from a d6 to a d4 on a 3 or lower. If a 1 is rolled on the d4 before the Macross Frontier finale, Sheryl will lapse into a coma and die if the finale is not initiated IMMEDIATELY. (you will have a special option to do so if this happens) The d4 threshold increases by 1 every subsequent turn.

London, Britannia

You are Mira Ayana, and you're not used to being treated like, well...like a VIP.

As soon as your group had arrived from the Sanc Kingdom, you'd been picked up by some of Empress Euphemia's people and whisked to a luxurious hotel. The banquet is tomorrow at Buckingham Palace.

Is the banquet public or private?

[ ] Public
-The media will be present, and although Milly Ashford, Diethard Reed, and Isabelle Cronkite will be level headed...the Britiannian paparazzi will also be there. With all of the negativity THAT entails. Even after the limo driver confessed to his role in what happened, the paparazzi's reputation hasn't really recovered since the death of Princess Diana in the pre-UE days...
-You'll have to watch what you say and do. People WILL dredge up the fact that you're known as the Silver Bulwark. You'll have to be able to deflect the media, and suffer narrative stress if you can't.

[ ] Private
-Euphemia has, in a moment of foresight, made the banquet a private affair. Unfortunately, to shut up the more unruly Britannian media outlets, she had to ask for a few favors from some of her...less savory siblings. In return, they'll be attending the banquet to get the measure of the Silver Bulwark.
-You won't have to deal with the media at large (and even then, Milly Ashford, Diethard Reed, and Isabelle Cronkite can remain objective) but you'll have to deal with needling from Guinevere and Carine. Schneizel, is, mercifully, not in attendance, as he's too busy overseeing the preparations to deploy Damocles for when the Council invades.
-Private knowledge of Marrybell's relationship with Oldrin and Nunnally's relationship with Alice will blunt any potential antagonism related to the girls and your relationship with Diana.

Euphemia has gifted you an elegant dress for the occasion.

What is it?

A/N: Taking things a little more slowly. Please vote, discuss, and critique!

For the Sophia matter, Verify is technically the safest choice, but if people are willing to trust Sophia, then Leap of Faith would not involve us having to roll and hoping Sheryl doesn't get worse. As for the other choices... ambivalent to the shipping choice, think we're better of with a private banquet even if it involves hanging around some of the less pleasant Loyalist Royals (but willing to hear arguments about it being better for us to deal with paparazzi than with Guinevere and Carine) and the dress choice is a subjective matter, where people will mostly choose what they like best (in my case, Chandelier).

EX Scene: Song of Half-Truth
UC 0???
(Former) NERV Australia HQ, somewhere in the Australian Outback

You are Lacus Clyne, and after you wake up, you get dressed and have a simple, yet filling breakfast of a NERV issue MRE. They're unappetizing, but to NERV's credit, they last a VERY long time before going bad. And the base is stockpiled with enough to feed a population far larger than the base's current inhabitants.

The base itself doesn't officially exist, NERV having scrubbed all mention of it from their records long before the Council invaded, no doubt at the behest of SEELE to have a hidden trump card or backup plan.

Most personnel salute as you pass by, and you return their gestures with a wave and a kind smile. You are Lacus Clyne, after all, and to not show basic courtesy in these trying times is unthinkable.

You enter the command center, those present turning to salute you as you take your seat.

"At ease." You say, the command center personnel returning to their duties.

You are in charge of the closest thing this dimension still has to a united resistance movement against the Council, at least within the Earth Sphere.

You look around the command center, and, not for the first time, marvel at the variety of uniforms present, from ZAFT dress uniforms and OMNI jackets to N.U.N.S. fatigues, and even the odd robe of Britannian nobility. The only unifying feature is a patch with your resistance movement's logo and name on the shoulders of everyone: a white double set of wings, with 'Compass' emblazoned right below it.

Your secretary, a young Coordinator named Lio Mao, approaches you.

"Ma'am, I have the latest reports." She says.

"Proceed." You nod.

Your secretary nods, gesturing to the center of the room before turning on a holographic projector.

"Our attempts to cause unrest in Side 2 have succeeded. Not even the Council was able to cover up what happened." A soldier wearing a Zeon officer's uniform says.

Side 2, 31st Block Colony

"Proud citizens who serve under the Council of the Veil!" A propaganda announcer yells. "You have chosen to aid in pacifying the barbarian population of this dimension! Know that you do the people here a great service as-"

The propaganda announcement is interrupted by a dozen Kämpfers emerging from seemingly inconspicuous cargo containers placed around the Council's newly constructed training grounds. At the same time, 18 Zaku Is blast a hole in the side of the colony wall where they'd infiltrated into the interior.

The Kämpfers immediately start shooting at the crowds of Council conscripts gathered on the parade grounds, while the Zaku Is draw heat hawks and begin smashing administrative buildings, server hubs, barracks, and warehouses, having not taken any ranged weapons for lack of supplies.

One Kämpfer is destroyed by a beam round as Fishbowls converge on the sight of the attack. Two Kämpfers turn and start shooting at the Council machines, while the rest turn their attention back to the crowds of fleeing conscripts and essential buildings of the training grounds.

A Zaku I peers into a Council laboratory building, and, seeing the hallways filled with panicking scientists, primes a cracker grenade and embeds it into the wall. The Zaku I is immediately skewered by a CQC Machine, but the Council pilot is unable to prevent the cracker from detonating, half of the building collapsing outright as a result.

It takes the Council's security forces 3 hours to eliminate the Zeon infiltrators, and by then, the once pristine-looking parade grounds and training facilities teeming with eager-and stupid-recruits have been reduced to burning ruins and streaks of viscera the length of cargo containers.

You shudder slightly at some of the photos of the aftermath, but otherwise manage to maintain composure.

"Well, I think it's safe to say recruiting's going to be down in space for a while." The Zeon officer says matter-of-factly.

Indeed, who from the Council's dominion would be willing to sign up to fight after something on that scale had happened? Only the most fanatical and gullible among them would do so.

You snap your fingers, signaling for the next item to be brought to your attention. A grizzled man in an OMNI general's uniform steps forward.

"The attack on Havana was successful." He says.

Footage from both friendly sources and Council media plays, a force of Windams, ZAKU Gunners, ZAKU Warriors, Ichinanas, Slaughter Daggers, and Geara Zee Zulus attacking the city being turned into a fortress by the Council. A pair of Destroy Gundams and a Psycho Gundam do much of the legwork, demolishing large portions of the city-fortress with their weapons while the rest hold off Council defenders or pick off softer targets that the Destroy or Psycho Gundam's weapons would be wasted on. The Slaughter Daggers in particular live up to their name, massacring Council infantry and construction personnel by the hundreds.

"No way they'll be able to maintain control of the Caribbean without the Havana Fortress City. We'll have a little more freedom of movement there for the time being." The OMNI general concludes.

You nod.

A few more items of interest are reported to you, ranging from hit-and-run attacks on Council supply lines in Britannia to an Evangelion unexpectedly intervening in a pitched battle against the Council in East Africa, saving the Compass forces there and allowing them to safely evacuate their base without being followed.

And yet you know that for each success reported to you here, there are two more failures that your subordinates refuse to trouble you with. you recall incomplete Providence Gundams being smashed apart by Council Super Robots, Council death squads dumping hundreds of bodies into mass graves, and ships carrying fleeing refugees being destroyed by Headhunters.

"Have we managed to make contact with what's left of the Dannar Project?" You ask as you tap the armrest of your chair with a finger.

"Unfortunately not." A Britannian Countess says. "The main issue seems to be that they don't know who to trust and thus are constantly on the run. They avoid contact with anyone and everyone, and refuse to communicate, so it's been near impossible to make contact with them."

You sigh.

"GGG? The Brave Express Corps? The Brave Police?"

"We've...only been able to find bits and pieces of Orbit Base after that portal formed and closed a while ago." A ZAFT officer says, arms crossed. "We've been trying to find some remnant of the Brave Express Corps, but given that the Senpuuji Concern wasn't able to destroy all of their records before the Council was able to take over..."

"You're worried about accidentally leading the Council to them, since they know where we'd look." You finish.

The ZAFT officer nods.

"And as for the Brave Police?" A NERV officer says. "I hate it say it, but they're dead and gone. As far as we can tell, that last stand in Hokkaido they made alongside the JSDF was their final blaze of glory."

You suck in a deep, unsteady breath, unable to prevent tears from streaming down your cheeks. Lio hands you a tissue, and you compose yourself after wiping your face.

"And what is the status of the Millennium?" You ask, turning to a group of engineers in a smattering of different uniforms, from Morgenroete Industries to Anaheim Electronics.

"Going steadily at our last report, about 88% complete." The lead engineer reports.

"Good. The Council must NOT find out about the existence of the Millennium. If they get their hands on it, it would advance their ship technology, I was told five or six generations ahead?" You ask.

"Five generations." An engineer from Anaheim Electronics says.

"I take it Zanscare is still refusing to play ball?" You ask rhetorically.

"Same response as the last time." An EFF officer sighs. "They say they'll be able to push the Council out on their own."

"They wish!" An OMNI officer retorts.

The meeting concludes shortly after that.

As you walk back to your office, you reflect on the sacrifices that have been made to hinder the Council up to this point.

Chairman Durandal had sent you away while making his last stand aboard the Messiah, Genesis Alpha decimating the Council's fleets until they threw dozens of their own Super Robots at it, destroying the Minerva, Messiah, and Genesis Alpha under sheer weight of numbers.

After the death of Durandal, Lord Djibril took over the defense and resorted to simple, but brutal tactics fueled by spite, killing many of the Council at the cost of just as many of his own forces. Unveiling the Requiem superweapon had actually managed to give Earth a slight reprieve as the Council shifted their focus to try and destroy the single most devastating cause of losses among their space fleets up to that point. Djibril's last act was to fire Requiem at a PLANT that had turned traitor and welcomed the Council with open arms. That this led to the deaths of no doubt thousands of likely innocent Coordinators was outweighed by the fact that the leadership of the PLANT in question had committed one of the worst acts of betrayal in the Earth Sphere. Djibril self-destructed the Requiem after luring in as many Council forces as he could when he realized he could not flee.

And so, now leadership of the Earth Sphere's resistance falls to you and Compass.

You sit down at your desk and open a biometrically locked safe.

You are Lacus Clyne.

You retrieve a journal and open it up.

You are not Lacus Clyne.

You are Meer Campbell, filling in for Lacus Clyne after her death at the hands of the Council. Before her death, she had told you everything about what she had done during the Bloody Valentine War, giving you much needed context, and greatly improving your ability to be her.

Not for the first time, and certainly not the last, you weep for Lacus Clyne, Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, and so many others who have died fighting the Council.

You take a deep breathe to calm yourself as you write in your journal.

Only Lio and a few of the high-ranking ZAFT officers know the truth. In case the Council finds out and tries to use that to demoralize Compass and the population at large, you have a contingency plan where you'll claim to be Lacus' clone. It's...not entirely untrue.

You finish writing in your journal and put it back in the safe. Not only is it biometrically locked, it is designed to incinerate its contents if forced open. One way or another, Lacus Clyne will be a martyr to the Earth Sphere.

You glance at a framed photo of the Ayanas. Their mad project to send their unborn daughter to another dimension under the protection of the SAMSARA system seems to have worked, given that Council isn't lording their success in dealing with that over the media. You can only hope the Ayana's daughter is able to avenge her parents before Compass inevitably crumbles.

But until then?

In memory of the real Lacus Clyne, you will be her, and you will make the Council pay in blood for every inch of this dimension they defile with their presence.

A/N: Originally I was going to make this about how the Crossbone Vanguard teamed up with the Jovian Federation moderates to defeat Kusukabe's faction, but then a stray thought popped into my head and this is the result after tying together some loose thoughts I had for the future. Make of this what you will.
