I think wafer was pretty clear that it's "superweapons" that bypass NLA, things of a power beyond regular tactical usage like beam rifles or shipboard mega particle cannons. There's definitely some gray areas in there, and the briefing for this mission made it clear that more "exotic" particle beam weapons like Hadron Cannons could bypass it, but I think it's rather counterproductive to just list off every hypothetical beam weapon in existence one by one when the QM already gave the rule of thumb of "if it visibly does more damage than Hashmal's ranged weapons, it breaks NLA".
While that's true to a degree, I doubt this is the only time we will see units with Nanolaminate coating on them so I would like to know so we can plan better for future fights when they come. The Council of the Vail have the coating and I don't doubt they will work to use it as much as they can after we deal with Rustel and his bunch when they see it can help them lessen the damage their forces take against us.
We know it's acting like a better Anti-beam coating at the moment but I would like to be more clear about if it's just power.
Plus I have seen the ranged weapons on the
Hashmal and they don't look all that impressive compared to a full power compared to the Twin Buster Rifle so I am trying establish a power cut if so to speak and the energy weapons it does not effect.
(Meanwhile in my quest I just specified that NLA only works on specifically Minovsky particle-beams, since I wanted GN particle-beams to be as much of a game-changer in that setting as they were in canon.)
I get what you mean although beam weapon equipped units were not the majority of units in the U.C until the Gryps War and so they were still a big deal in the U.C when it came to dealing with heavily armored units.
The scene I use most for reference is when Ride tries to block Hashmal's beam. His mobile suit survives at the cost of its shield and a singed arm, but enough of the beam deflects around it to completely destroy the farming settlement that he was trying to protect.
Also, going to borrow from SRW 0/Delta and say that true nanolaminate needs a true Ahab reactor for peak performance.

So was that the most powerful shot the Hashmal fired of because we see the Barbatos block a shot from the Hashmal with out losing any parts of the suit and the Hashmal was willing to use beam weapons against it's enemies even though it recognizes the Gundam when it shows up and yet still fires. Also the Hashmal's beam seems weak compared to for example the High Mega Cannon on the ZZ Gundam.
Well... time to see how things are going to progress from here, since both sides are running plans and counterplans to the maneuvers of the other side, so it could go either way. Maybe we'll get to see OZ soldiers denigrate the Gjallarhorn forces for their claim of being a noble and honorable army, yet acting in ways that fail to reflect that (most of OZ at least strives to follow the ideals of His Excellency, Colonel Treize Khushrenada, unlike Gjallarhorn, who are willing to disregard the rules they are enforcing if it gets them an advantage; Rustal might not care about being perceived as a hypocrite, but other Gjallarhorn members could be displeased with their enemies calling them dishonorable).
Yeah, without counting Rustal and his group are really easy to get under their skin.
Like if you are a military general and a little girl is able to call your bullshit out and you lose your marbles at that maybe you weren't really the best option for that position.
Then again the guy is a politician first and then a general from what I have read (haven't watched IBO).

That works weirdly well because when you think about it 00 and IBO are in someways spiritual successors to Wing Gundam in their setup with the Protagonists and antagonist. You can see distant similarities between for example OZ and Gjallarhorn in their being special elite groups with a Aristocratic bend that also lord over or come in to conflict with the actual governments in their respective series. Rustal as being this weird mirror to Treize in that he is a big name Aristocrat who talks about honor and Gjallarhorn's duties yet is corrupt asshole who does not care about anyone's rules and will do anything to gain what he considers victory with out putting Himself on the line. The man strikes me as a hypocrite in the comparison of the image he projects and who he actually is, while Treize was many things but someone who did not believe in the things he talked about as being important was not one of those things. For example he was from the very start willing to take risks along side the OZ members loyal to him and through the whole series while he was willing to use tricks he was quite clear about how he felt battles and Wars as a whole should be fought and was willing to stake his life on what he believed. The man believed in a kind of chivalry and both he and the men under him did their best to act with honor on the field. He claimed to be a Noble Warrior who cared about how battles were fought and the weapons that were used and most of the time acted like one. The whole Railgun Nukes being illegal and Rustel using them anyway would piss him of a lot I suspect.
Gundam Wing did a good job establishing who it's important characters were, it's just the shows world building was weak and the why and how characters got from point A to point B was not always very clear towards the end of the show.
Battle Plan
-[X] Let Zero know that he's allowed to spring whatever plan he has prepared, provided he believes it would help the situation (aka activate Man of Miracles);
-[X] Units that are close to the Yamato and aren't busy doing something else are to focus on defending it from enemy forces;
-[X] Generic forces that aren't busy doing something should focus on tying up enemy forces as much as possible;
-[X] Unicorn, Seravee, Throne Drei, GN Archer, Sandrock EW and Heavyarms EW are to focus on thinning the enemy forces near them;
--[X] If needed, Seravee and Cherudim are authorized to use Trans-AM, once it becomes available;
-[X] Rose, Deathscythe EW and Cherudim focus on covering the 00 Raiser as it prepares the Raiser Sword;
-[X] Send the VB-6 König Monster, Freedom Gundam, Justice Gundam, Destiny Gundam, VF-25G Messiah, RVF-25 Messiah, Queadluun-Rea, Razangriff Raven, Randgrith Raven, Buster Gundam, Strike Rouge Gundam, Mazinkaiser, Combattler V, Voltes V and Daimos to hunt down Dainsleif-equipped Mobile Suits and Ships;
--[X] Freedom Gundam, Justice Gundam, Destiny Gundam, Queadluun-Rea, Mazinkaiser, Combattler V, Voltes V and Daimos focus on tanking enemy attacks that aren't Dainsleifs and making sure that the other units in the group aren't harassed, while also still making attacks on any Dainslef-equipped targets if they have the opportunity;
---[X] See if the electromagnetic attacks of the Voltes and Combattler can disable enemy mobile suits that are armed with Dainsleifs, in order to accelerate the removal of Dainsleifs from the field. Do the same thing with the freezing attacks of Mazinkaiser and Daimos.
--[X] VB-6 König Monster, VF-25G Messiah, Razangriff Raven, Randgrith Raven, Buster Gundam and Strike Rouge Gundam stay at range and make use of their ranged attacks to remove Dainsleif-equipped units from the field;
---[X] Have the RVF-25 Messiah stay near the ranged group to provide them with EWAC support and deploy the Ghosts in support of the Buster Gundam;
---[X] The VB-6 König Monster is authorized to discharge its Reaction Warheads on an enemy group, provided no friendly units would be in the blast radius;
-[X] Have Dragonar-3 focus on supporting groups of units that are under attack from a significant number of rockets;
-[X] Have the Shin Getter units focus on clearing a path towards the enemy flagship, in preparation for an attack on it for a potential decapitation strike;
-[X] Everyone else who isn't already doing something focuses on ship defense and being ready to respond to any maneuvers the enemy forces might pull
-[X] If possible, when engaging Dainsleif-equipped units, have friendly units position in such a way that Dainsleif shots that miss could potentially hit someone from the enemy force.

Outskirts of Side 4, Earth Orbit
Things have well and truly devolved into a complete clusterfuck, and the only reason friendly fire hasn't occurred (as far as you can tell) is that it's relatively easy to distinguish who's on what side based on how everyone's mobile suits are colored.
A pair of Grazes barrel into the Rose. Yukari hisses as she makes some adjustments to the Crystal Diffusion Drive's output.
You grab one Graze and hurl it away, the Sandrock Custom cutting it in half with its heat shotels. The other tries to cut into the Rose's shoulder with an axe, but you're able to shake it off and destroy it with a shot from the Dark Lance.
"Everyone, we're preparing to use the Raiser Sword. We need cover!" Setsuna says.
You see the 00 Raiser jet toward a more favorable position and unfurl something from the 0 Raiser.
"Damn it, I can't help you! Who's close to Setsuna?" Banagher asks as the Unicorn Gundam punches a Graze so hard it explodes, psychoframe glowing green.
"Lockon, go help Setsuna!" Tieria urges as the Seravee Gundam fires a massive beam, a column of overconfident Grazes exploding in its wake.
The Gundam Cherudim breaks away from its group as the GN Archer and Sandrock head off another squad of Grazes.
"Whatever you plan on doing, Setsuna, do it fast!" Lockon says.
You charge ahead and tackle a Reginlaze away from the 00 Gundam.
"How much longer is this going to take, Setsuna?" You ask as you flourish the Energy Whip.
"Saji!" Setsuna says urgently.
"Raiser system online! System prepping...40%, 50%..." Saji says.
You curse as a Graze manages to get past you, only for it to be crushed by the Deathscythe Hell's Buster Shield. You see the Deathscythe appear on your sensors at that moment, and see the Deathscythe give a cheeky salute before kicking away another Graze.
"Any second now would be great, Setsuna!" You say.
"Releasing all compressed GN Particles!" Setsuna yells.
A massive beam emanates from the 00 Gundam, obliterating a trio of Grazes that had been charging at it. The captain of a Dainslef-equipped Halfbeak ship flinches as a massive beam skewers a single ship in the distance, then slumps his shoulders in relief.
"Ha, fools, they wasted their shot!" The captain says derisively.
"Sir, the beam...it's moving!" One of the bridge officers says frantically.
"What?!" The captain exclaims in panic.
Looking out the viewport, the captain realizes that what the 00 Gundam fired wasn't a beam cannon, but a massive beam saber. As he watches the Raiser Sword sweep across the battlefield, destroying Dainslef-Grazes, he realizes it's headed straight for his ship.
"Evade! Evasive-"
The captain doesn't get to finish his order as the Raiser Sword cuts into his ship, immolating the bridge. "Protect Setsuna and the 00 Raiser! Don't let them throw off his aim!" Lockon yells.
Defense of 00 Raiser-Lockon, Mira, and Duo roll against Gjallarhorn forces
Opposed rolls-both sides roll 3d20, add modifiers
Friendly Roll-3d20 + 2 (Shield Bits) + 4 (Hyper Jammer) + 2 (Super Robot)
7, 19, 7
Lockon uses Trans-Am, the result of his roll is tripled!
21 + 19 + 7 + 2 (Shield Bits) + 4 (Hyper Jammer) + 2 (Super Robot) = 55
Gjallarhorn Roll-3d20 + 10 (Horde)
2, 11, 18
2 + 11 + 18 + 10 = 41
Result: Setsuna is able to aim and swing the Raiser Sword uncontested, leading to severe losses for Gjallarhorn, especially among Dainslefs
You take up position above the 00 Gundam, lashing out with the Energy Whip at any Gjallarhorn mobile suit that gets close, resorting to punching and kicking at anything that gets past that.
"Trans-Am!" Lockon yells, the Gundam Cherudim glowing red.
The Gundam Cherudim then shoots forward, afterimages confusing Gjallarhorn pilots while Lockon fires GN missiles and his GN sniper rifle, Trans-Am amplifying the power of its beams enough to pierce through nanolaminate armor. With the Shield Bit's beam guns not powerful enough to go through nanolaminate even in Trans-Am, Lockon instead opts to have the bits ram individual Gjallarhorn mobile suits, massive dents forming in enemy Grazes and Reginlazes when they don't simply explode on impact.
Between the Rose and the Cherudim in Trans-Am, few enemy mobile suits are able to get past to try and disrupt the 00 Raiser. Those that do, however, quickly fall prey to the Deathscythe Hell. You and Yukari suppress the urge to chuckle whenever the Deathscythe's sensor reading suddenly appears next to a Graze, followed by the enemy Graze disappearing from sensors. It certainly helps that Duo swapped out his normal beam scythe for a prototype heat scythe.
"Don't think you can so easily sneak past the God of Death!" Duo taunts.
After a few more seconds of defending the 00 Raiser, the Raiser Sword dims before fading out entirely, the Gundam's extra reserves of GN particles spent.
You give an impressed whistle as you survey Setsuna's handiwork: numerous contacts the Yamato had marked as Dainslefs have simply disappeared from sensors, along with other enemy ships and mobile suits that hadn't gotten out of the way in time.
"Fire off the last of the Type 3 shells, then switch to the shock cannons!" Captain Okita orders.
A trio of massive dents appears in the side of a Dainslef equipped Halfbeak before it explodes. A pair of Halfbeaks charge at the Yamato from different 'elevations' relative to it, hoping to trap it in some kind of pincer attack.
The Yamato responds by rotating while firing blue beams of antimatter from its cannons at the Halfbeak on the 'higher' elevation. The enemy Halfbeak doesn't do any evasive maneuvers, its crew mistaking the beams for ordinary beam weapons. This mistake causes the entire ship to go up in flames when the beams make impact.
The Halfbeak on the 'lower' elevation fires all of its weapons at the Yamato, HE shells and anti-ship napalm deflecting uselessly off of the Wave Motion Barrier. The Yamato responds by firing all of its point defense cannons on that side of the ship. The Halfbeak is subsequently riddled with holes, fires and secondary explosions putting the ship out of commission.
As the Yamato's Cosmo Zeros destroy a squad of Dainslef-Grazes, the Archangel fires its Valiant railguns at an enemy ship, the slugs causing an enormous pair of holes to appear in the side before it explodes.
The Yamato continues on its warpath through Gjallarhorn lines, the Freedom, Justice, Destiny, Klan's Queadlunn-Rea, Mazinkaiser, Combattler, Voltes, and Daimos intercepting any non-Dainslef projectile directed at the Archangel, Nadesico, and Ra Cailum as the latter three ships follow in the Yamato's destructive wake. Gaelio Baeduin snarls as he attempts to break the Gundam with angelic wings in two with the Kimaris Vidar's lance. To his annoyance, the Wing Zero is able to almost effortlessly dodge all of his attacks, as if the enemy pilot knows what he's going to do before he does it.
"Why do you oppose us? Don't you realize you're on a path to self-destruction?" Gaelio yells over an open frequency.
"And what makes you say that?" Heero Yuy's boyish voice catches Gaelio off guard. "We've just dealt a major blow to one of the main factions of our civil war, and the other is predicted to fail on its own with properly applied pressure. If anything, peace and stability are closer to us than before."
Gaelio huffs before drawing the Kimaris Vidar's sword in its free hand and charging at the Wing Zero. Heero backs up while firing the Wing Zero's shoulder gatlings at it.
"That doesn't mean any peace you attain would be guaranteed to last! With our and the Council's intervention, you could have peace and order for the foreseeable future!" Gaelio implores.
"Under the heel of the Council, who is prone to order genocide on a whim and regularly commits perfidy as standard operating procedure." Heero counters, slamming the Kimaris Vidar with the Wing Zero's shield, batting it away.
Gaelio tenses up in rage before charging at the Wing Zero again, Heero drawing a beam saber and raking it across the Kimaris Vidar's head. The nanolaminate armor prevents any damage from being done, but it briefly blinds Gaelio all the same, allowing Heero to gain some distance.

6 + 8 + 3 + 2 = 19
Result: The Kimaris Vidar is severely damaged. Thruster output is reduced-all attacks will now be checked against armor.
Gaelio only realizes the Wing Zero has combined its rifles into the Twin Buster Rifle when the barrels start glowing. He immediately goes into an evasive maneuver, with as much thrust as the Kimaris Vidar can give him, which is quite a bit.
Under most circumstances, Heero would have missed. Having an active ZERO System does not fall under 'most circumstances'. With Gaelio having overplayed his hand, the ZERO System onboard Wing Zero was able to predict where he would be, and how he would try to dodge once Heero fired. As a result, instead of dodging the massive beam as Gaelio expected to do, he flew straight into it.
Only by sacrificing the Kimaris Vidar's shield was Gaelio able to survive, and even then, his Gundam took severe damage; the Kimaris Vidar's left arm is sparking, and the thrusters are belching smoke.
Julieta Juris sneers as the Altron Gundam parries a pair of swipes from her Reginlaze Julia's whip blades, the emerald green of the prongs Altron's twin beam trident a stark contrast to whip blade's golden tips.
"So, you claim to fight for justice?" Chang Wufei asks, his boyish voice catching Julieta slightly off guard.
"And if I do?" Julieta asks derisively.
"Then you're a massive hypocrite. You claim to fight for justice, but those who hold your master's leash are anything but just! They order genocide, perform horrific experiments, and grind those of other dimensions down under their heel for the sake of it!" Wufei says in anger.
"Those who the Council conquers had it coming-their dimensions were in disarray, complete failures of governance!" Julieta yells as she fires the Reginlaze Julia's vulcans at the Altron Gundam.
Wufei gives a dismissive snort as he dodges.
"Oh, an extradimensional variant of the white man's burden? The Council is more pathetic than I thought. I normally don't kill bleeding hearts or women, but I'll make an exception for you!" Wufei yells.

Result: The Reginlaze Julia takes severe damage. Julieta suffers serious injury, negatively affecting her piloting ability.
Julieta lashes out with the Reginlaze Julia's whip blades, and the Altron Gundam seems to simply...slide between them. Not a single blow meets its mark, and not even a speck of paint on the Altron is disturbed.
Wufei laughs.
"And you call yourself a champion of justice with such pitiful skills?" Wufei says.
The Altron thrusts its arms forward, and the Dragon Fangs on each shoot forward. Julieta curses as she backs away frantically, only to fall right into Wufei's trap; the Dragon Fangs curve around and strike the Reginlaze Julia from behind.
Wufei, sensing an opportunity, presses the attack, jetting forward in the Altron and kicking the Reginlaze Julia in the cockpit before smashing it with the Dragon Fangs again and again in a furious barrage of blows. Julieta is only able to force the Altron off with a sudden kick to the torso.
As Wufei gives his opponent's mobile suit a once-over, he sees that he'd done more damage than even his most optimistic predictions: one of the Reginlaze Julia's arms has been torn off, and there are numerous dents in the torso plating. A pair of thrusters on the Reginlaze Julia's left side seem to be sputtering, and the plating on the right leg seems to be cracked.
Julieta coughs up blood as she tries to wipe off a smudge on her helmet's visor, only to realize it's now cracked.
"Damn you...at least that pilot of the Barbatos didn't talk as much!" Julieta curses. You are Lelouch, and you sincerely hope this plan of yours will work.
"All friendly units, retreat from the designated areas at once!" You announce over every friendly frequency.
As numerous ships and mobile suits adjust position, including Nergal's ships and Aestivalis squads, you hit a remote control.
Numerous containers filled with optically reflective chaff and incendiary gel split open, their contents spreading throughout the void. You count to five before hitting another button on the remote.
Hidden charges ignite both the chaff and the incendiary gel, causing a firestorm to rage in the vacuum of space.
"Now! Fire wide area weapons while the enemy is blind!" You yell.
A nearby Graze makes to attack the Ikaruga, only for Tamaki to fire a Radiant Wave Missile at it, causing the armor plating to bubble before the entire thing explodes.
"This is Rabbit-1, firing Reaction Warheads!" Canaria announces.
In the distance, you see the S.M.S. König Monster brace on the wreck of an enemy Halfbeak before firing into a crowd of Dainslef-Grazes. Other long range machines, including Michel Blanc's VF-25G, Noin's Razangriff Raven, Hilde's Randgrith Raven, and the Buster Gundam fire solid munitions at Dainslef-Grazes and ships. their targets going up in flames.
They have to realize that they're losing at this point! Why aren't they retreating? You wonder.
As if to accentuate your point, Shin Getter 2 fires a Drill Missile at an enemy ship, cutting it in half. Reinforcements

Dainslef-Halfbeak x4 There is a massive Dimensional Distortion forming in the center of the Gjallarhorn formation. Samsara posits that it's the portent of the Council bringing in something massive. The Yamato can use the Wave Motion Gun on it, but will lose coherency after that.
Should the Yamato use its Wave Motion Gun?
[ ] Yes
[ ] No A/N: And so, the humiliation of Gjallarhorn continues. I hope the trash-talk between Heero/Gaelio and Wufei/Julieta is both good an in-character for them. Please vote, discuss, and critique!
Gjallarhorn pilots really should have wised up after seeing too many of their comrades dying when the Nanolaminate Armor failed to protect them, and begin dodging.
The enemy Halfbeak doesn't do any evasive maneuvers, its crew mistaking the beams for ordinary beam weapons. This mistake causes the entire ship to go up in flames when the beams make impact.
Rustal Elion must be very salty as it will burn out his entire fortune and resources of Gjallarhorn to rebuild the entire Arianrhod Fleet with new ships if he was forced to retreat back to IBO dimension.
"Oh, an extradimensional variant of the white man's burden? The Council is more pathetic than I thought. I normally don't kill bleeding hearts or women, but I'll make an exception for you!" Wufei yells.
The thing is it's coming through in the center of what's left of the enemy forces. If we Fire the Yamato's heavy map weapon we put a big hole in what's left of them and we prevent their reinforcements coming through which lowers our losses which are higher then I think they should considering who we are fighting but less loses on our side is what I want at this point. Plus with the way things are going it would help us quickly break the enemy's back at this point.
Well, I think we should hold off until we get a better shot.
I want them to go out like Aldeeran, not the Rebel Fleet in Return of The Jedi. Just...one, big, boom.
...Possibly after we kill Rusty. I dunno, I kinda want him to go out like a bitch, like the Star Destroyer that got accidentally Kamikaze'd by an A-Wing.

I think that blowing away what ever he has coming to help along with a good portion of what's left of his forces and maybe him as well with one shot seems to me to be a pretty embarrassing way to go out.

It's pathetic death in the sense that nothing he has can tank the shot thus showing how lot on the Totempole he and his bunch really are. Plus we are losing a lot of ships even ones that should have clear advantages against the enemy ships so I would like to end this quickly if we can.
One thing I find somewhat crazy is that Julieta somehow has a higher piloting ability score then both Hero and Wufei which seems a little of considering what she actually showed herself capable of in IBO.
As of now, I'm tempted to use the Wave Motion Gun here, since I fear whatever the Council is preparing to send could cause us significant issues, maybe even being able to contest the Yamato, so I feel like it's better to not let them receive whatever it is that is being sent over. The Yamato being rendered offline after using the WMG isn't that problematic, since we have the battle mostly well in hand, and I suspect enemy morale is low enough that we can force a surrender if we down Rustal's Flagship, which would pretty much end the fight. That said, I'm waiting to see what the rest of the thread has to say on this before I vote.
The way I see it, there's two major considerations here.
1. The Yamato is our hard counter to Dainsleifs, which went from shredding our asses to a non-factor after the WM Barrier went up. We've surely destroyed most of their launchers by now, but before voting, I'd like to know how many active Dainsleifs are left.
2. The other and more pernicious issue is that we have no way of knowing what the Council's capacity for pulling in reinforcements us. For all we know, they've got two more of whatever this is waiting in reserve until they bait out our shot. However, this sort of argument is circular and always true, because they could ALWAYS have more to throw at us, and this is simply an excuse to never use a one-shot weapon at all.
Honestly despite this I'm tempted to vote yes simply because Gjallarhorn's morale must be deep in the shitter. If we summarily delete their superweapon-looking reinforcements in a massive display of power, we could start to see mass surrenders or the universe's most ill-considered rout by the rank and file. Mostly I just want to know how many Dainsleifs are left that might NOT immediately give up when we WMG.
Gjallarhorn started with 600 Dainslef-fitted Grazes and 40 Dainslef-equipped ships. As can be seen in combatant status in the post, there are 250 Dainslef-fitted Grazes and 4 Dainslef-equipped ships left. Also, keep in mind that the Wave Motion Gun won't just be hitting whatever the Council is bringing in, there's a lot of enemies between point A and point B.
Even then, it's hilarious that Gjallahorn hadn't wised up to the fact their Nanolaminate Armor can't protect them anymore and start dodging. They just recklessly charge and explode in droves.
It gives a better fbouns then the Zero System my friend and somehow even the Failure that is Julietta has a higher piloting score then Hero and Wufei along with the rest of the Colony Gundam pilots somehow and the rolls for those fights were pretty damm close all things considered.
We have lost lot of stuff, hell we lost more units against these guys then against the Sleeves or Doctor Hell and in a bunch of fights.
