Super Robot Quest G

Anyway, Project Orion was always an intermediary step into less disposable propulsion methods. Why not take a look on our part and see about replacing the core ideas behind them and adapt them with something more exotic and less likely to incense political sensitivities?

Theyd make for a pretty great upgrade for our dropships for example
I mean, we should actually already have something like that from the Carrier we gave the Space Battleship Yamato treatment.

I don't actually remember what knid of propulsion it's using though.

...Kinda sounds like you're arguing with a fearmonger to me. Anyway, gimme a bit to look into our options so I can figure out what I want right now.
It's hardly fear mongering when we literally just had an interlude about just how ludicrous the Westphalians infiltration game is. Configuration is the big Tech we can give out at the moment, and I could see the Anti-Grav formula being offered to the Mercury Team now that Ground Pound has it. MMI is actually of debatable use. It requires a fairly massive change to how the pilot controls the machine, mental strain, additional training, and then there's the whole, will the other Pilots even be compatible with it.

That is why I want to try it.

Say if we give out anti gravity tech then how long till Westphalian get that?
The Anti-Grav formula is actually, ironically one of the safer ones. Since "All" it allows for is strapping more stuff onto the frame. Some kind of interaction with the unknown Westphalian Chemicals.

In many ways the Anti-Grav formula is our test, this is the, how long until we start seeing it on Westie Mechs.

It becomes fear mongering when it's specifically mentioned in reference to Yukimura and Mander, aka a semi-insular community and the Westphalians' primary opposition, respectively.

Those two, we can reasonably assume to be safe from infiltration, Yukimura because he's apparently been working with the same team for years and Mander because he's the one who's most likely to know how to screen for Westphalian sleeper agents. Really, if either of those two teams were infiltrated at all, you'd think Westphalia would be stealing their tech, but we have yet to see any Valiant ripoffs or Aeon-powered Beasts.

That said, I can understand and agree with the bit about the MMI being likely to get in their pilots' way more than help them, at least in the near future.

Hmmm.... Say think we could trade antigrav for the eye beam technology from Yukimira and the equipment slotting tech from Mander?

Think beams and long-range fire support might be a possible option for building our configuring assault helicopter super robot.

That plus the easy slotting interchangeability would combined with deployment from a Dropships make for a variable support for the robot.

Say what does the pegasus dropships look like?

Okay, got something tentative mostly written up, but, as always, having issues coming up with enough science projects for everyone.

So, anyone got suggestions for Xenotechnology or Faedium?

I'm not so sure.

It's not going to end either." As the agent's eyes narrowed slightly, George's hand was already spreading out the Valiant and Mercury's photos onto the desk. "They'd already gotten started years ago - the DFRI is just validation to them now."
The clear implication of these photos are that they aren't the standard battle/publicity photos that are normally seen. While it's not outright stated that these are hanger photos or similar there's again a clear implication.

They're insular yes, but not unbreachable. Corruption, hacking, mundane espionage, extortion, bribing. Westphalians have it all.

It's one of the reasons I'm willing to hang on and see what happens with the Anti-Grav that's already out and about.

Westphalian are the Super Robot Villain Faction with spies everywhere trope from how it seems.

Edit: I'm reluctant to give Ground Pound new Tech so soon, they need to fully adapt the Anti-Grav into their setup, they have requested Configuration and that does seem to be something that should be made stupidity easy with Nanotech though.

I see no implication of context in the photos' description at all. It could be anything from the standard public pictures to black-box recordings, for all we know; the only thing confirmed is that they are pictures of Valiant and Mercury.

And again, I have significant evidence against those two being infiltrated, in the form of Westphalia not stealing their tech yet. Can you really see Westphalia not stealing technology if they've actually infiltrated the two highest-tech entities (I hesitate to call them "factions" but the difference may be extreme enough to justify it) that originated on Earth? Especially if one of those factions is their primary enemy?

And yeah, Ground Pound seems... swamped right now.

Honestly? Yes, Super Robot Tech is expensive, experimental, temperamental, and prone to needing oversight. So I can see them entirely overlooking Mercury because they can build 100+ gun platforms instead of a Gen 1 Mercury. The Valiant is admittedly a bit of an odd duck, but I get the feeling getting the magnetism to work has been much like Space Pirates trying to get Samus's Morph Ball Tech to work.

Absence of Evidence does not equal Evidence of Absence.

Westphalia prefers cheap and mass producible, which has actually been our purview, and thus tech that is actually something they want.

Pirates: Right...it works, but, uh, how does he change back?

@TehChron The idea behind the homage to Project Orion is possible - if you want to try it (say under experimenting with Space Flight) try adapting other elements of super Science to achieve a similar effect.

SCIENCE.

Also, as a heads up, I'll be leaving the vote running till about the weekend.

Guys you missed an important detail in the update. The Free brother's don't know that Galbinus and the Legion are working with the humans. We might be able to land a true ambush on the and take some of them out even though the Legion's plan is to let them get away with it.

Westphalia prefers cheap and mass producible, which has actually been our purview, and thus tech that is actually something they want.
For their mooks, yes. Their aces, on the other hand, get significantly better stuff, and yet do not have Aeon Particles or Valiant's shenanigans. Again I cite the lack of the Bruces (the pilots of the evil Boss Borot) getting any Valiant or Mercury tech despite having untested xenotech installed in their latest robot, and Warlord (a highly influential lieutenant who would logically warrant a lot of investment to keep around) didn't have them either.

Absence of Evidence may not equal Evidence of Absence, but how does "the Westphalian aces don't have it when they explicitly believe in better stuff for the elites" not at least approach Evidence of Absence enough to be cause for optimism?

Further evidence that Westphalia has not infiltrated Mander, in particular: To the best of my knowledge, they haven't sabotaged Valiant or its support vehicle- another staple of spies infiltrating their enemy faction. Can you see them sparing any efforts to disable their primary enemy?

We actually have very little info on their encounters with the Valiant, given Basarin's tendency to have things run on SR Tropes, I am entirely willing to say that they infact have tried sabotaging the Valiant and the support vehicle. We simply haven't heard about it due to them not being the actual focus.

The Bruce had Xenotech because they literally bought said guns and strapped it in. The cost wasn't even that terrible for them given what they bartered with. Which actually fits with the Mass Production and Cheap angle. They had a supplier at reasonable cost, add it in.

Also you... may want to reread the Pak/Warlord interactions. Pak himself was definitely not sending him the best.

It may just be that Westphalians have not infiltrated to the point that they can access tech.

In which case priorities should be development of further Super Robots and their Capabilities as well as internal security..... and Recruitment.

The Bruces had the first Westphalian weapon equipped with Xenotech. That alone proves that Westphalia is willing to splurge on them. By your own logic, Westphalia should only use mass-produced designs, right? Yet they were willing to use Xenotech instead of reverse-engineering it.

And while Warlord didn't have the best for his troops, his own vehicle was undeniably a cut above the rest, as proven by the fact that he was a boss fight (and the first time we came across that Westphalian chemical, apparently back before they figured out how to mass-produce it). Plus, again, he was important, which means Westphalia should've been willing to splurge, and the fact that Pak short-changed him pissed the Red King off.

And we have had people speculating that Pak is the distributor for a mad scientist specializing in derivative designs... who has been complaining about lack of inspiration lately. If such a mad scientist had access to Valiant or Mercury's tech, his designs would resemble them more, wouldn't they? And he wouldn't have issues with designer's block, right?

tldr: Your core argument is "Absence of Evidence is not Evidence of Absence." Unfortunately, the sheer amount of evidence that's absent is approaching the level that it becomes evidence of absence.

Plus, y'know, at this point you're using absence of evidence as evidence of presence, which is just absurd (and textbook fearmongering). Until and unless Westphalia starts using their tech, it will be impossible to convince me that they've infiltrated the Mercury or Valiant projects. And if they haven't now, it seems likely they never will, because neither of them seems to be recruiting right now.

Alright, the decisions for this might seem weird. BUT.

This is basically going all in on the Funnel project, now that we've got a line towards making it work, and a platform where it can be mass-adaptable to most of our units with the basic Sledder/Faedium Block chassis. If we can get the Funnel working, its going to be an utterly insane game changer for whoever winds up using it, and the Crocalisk Scale and Pterawing Leather are basically super ideal for it. Plus, it'll let us genuinely leapfrog the tech race upon completion. There's no reason not to do it. Plus, we only have two dropships. This way we can keep a lid on the Free Brothers when they try to make a big push. It looks like they don't realize that Bandit is held by the Legio, this means that his would-be rescuers are gonna be in for a nasty surprise while the Free Brothers try to do something to keep Galbinus from otherwise interfering in their rescue operation.

And worst case scenario, the "Rapid Response" team can be contributed towards whatever Galbinus' larger play will be to help sell the charade.

Combine that with us sending our most maneuverable support units and our most nimble heavy hitters outside the Beowulf, who are also our most experienced Super Robots when dealing with the Westphalians to investigate, we get a lot of leeway in making that work. The Orion Project is about a qualitative upgrade to all of our dropships for improved maneuverability and future Ex-Atmo launch capability. The K-Stuff research is intended to grind up our baseline performance more.

But the biggest go-to here is, without a doubt, FUNNELS.

Sasaki will be running as our eyes on the ground for the Galbinus Breakout operation to coordinate there. Diana will be working with Mander on how to set things up, and also be in a good position to take whatever we learn from the Oil Platform and possibly use that as well to help with figuring out that favor they want out of us.

But, again.

FUNNELS.
