This might let us install the new phasers without making the captian live in a broom closet like I've been expecting/planning around.
 
A more serious reason to vote for trailing nasceles: without the expanded deflector (Sayle's edited the update), we're already not going as fast as we could, and rapid response is part of the mission profile for this ship. Wanting to keep things small or maximise internal space is all well and good, but here it would reduce the ship's ability to meet one of our primary design objectives.

It doesn't have the science bay or the med bay to be an adequate first responder for those sort of issues, and sprinting a light ship into a combat scenario can be dubious. I'd be more opposed if we went with a prototype.

I have to admit, I find the Renaissance's chunky nasceles amusing every time I see them. They're just so big compared to the rest of the ship. :V

We don't need a race car of a ship. What we need is a semi truck that can get a good amount of cargo to the destination in a timely fashion.

It's also supposed to be able to respond to distress calls, something that more speed does actively help with.

While Internals can boost carrying capacity, Science and comfort, it can't really boost tactical all that much. I'm willing to trade on internals, which other than shuttle bay aren't super relevant to the purpose of this craft, for a faster warp sprint, which is something that a QRF ship would need in case of a disaster or pirate attack.
