I wonder if the luxury ship market might not be a better fit for a small company in the mid-rim than trying to break into Kuat and cos jealously guarded (and as far as i know rather stagnant) military and transport markets. Small and fast ships with enough bling and comforts that the local upper class can feel like they can finally afford their own pleasure yacht, but cheap enough to be affordable in the mid-rim.
I suggest looking into it. Often these sorts of serialized luxury items have huge profit margins, not being that much more expensive to produce than the regular items, while people are willing to spend absurd amounts on them. Since we are going to be sharply limited in how much we can produce by the size of our yards, having big profit margins per item would be important.

Looks like there is no obvious market to expand into. Wonder if we can have someone look into that. I feel that it will be much more important to find an unoccupied market niche for ourselves than to build an innovative or even good ship.

I have mentioned the System Patrol Craft market. With the ongoing Naboo crisis, improved system defence would be a driving force for most poor Mid-Outer Rim systems. The outdated crap they currently have would not be enough. The best on the market right now would be the Pursuer-class enforcement ship but no one is buying it right now.
We just need to produce a ship with a lot more firepower.

Easy our modded roci class ship has multiple advantages to the Pursuer ship.
First of all, our modded rocinante is at least double the length, 60 meters long compared to the Pursuer's mere 30.1 meters.
Second is in term of armament, Pursuer is only equipped with ( according to the wiki) a single twin blaster cannon, a ion cannon turret, and a proton torpedo launcher(common modification).
The Rocinante from the Expanse had 6 point defense cannons and 2 torpedo launchers. Our modded variant can be equipped with more.

thinking over some modifications for our bulked up Roci we could probably fit in a Heavy Ion cannon in a fixed forward position like the railgun it has installed in the last season , not to mention probably get the pdc up to 10 and expand the missile/torpedo bays along with the general upgrades to shields, comms, egnines etc.

Just thought of something a bit of something: we have two "rings" of four weapon mounts. One on the aft and one mid ship.
The aft ring mounts twin laser cannon turrets; while The mid ship ring has the same turrets on the side mounts while the top and bottom mounts have the missle/torpedo Launchers. The bow of the ship has two quad laser cannon turrets on the port and starboard sides of the nose. Then we can throw in the fixed forward heavy ion cannon under the bow.

probably would be better for the base model to have the retracting light point defense laser cannons so that the Roci can put out high volumes of AA fire. Make it so the mounts are easy to mod though and people could mount heavier and more varied armaments aftermarket. Also the Torpedo/Missile System is in the ship i believe and not in a turret. Also if we keep with the theme of modularity for the fixed forward gun it could be a light turbolaser, ion cannon, etc
Something like the Babylon 5 patrol boat might be good.
Looks very barebones but if built modularly it could be a very good cheap system defence ship.
The Corporate freighter is also an idea.
The Corporate Tanker is utilitarian as fuck but looks like a good hauler.
While it may be an idea for later the Starfury from Babylon 5 is a good starfighter design.
We need to decide what to build, I'd probably say a light cargo ship of some sort. We'd be competing with a big company but that's true of any design we build and a light freighter is the most common ship in the galaxy. So there will always be a market for them.

I wasn't talking about missle turrets and was more referring to how the weapons are arranged.
As for modularity are we really in a position to dink around with that? We need to focus on putting out a viable product in the near future rather then establishing a company gimmick.

I think how the weapons are arranged as is in the show are pretty good and what i mean for modability is not using any proprietary parts in the housing and guns so that it is easy to switch out and replace guns and parts in the aftermarket. Basically not going the apple route of making our own screws, parts, etc that only we can replace and allowing for people to customize the ship without sending it back to us.

yup, we want our ships to be very good stock but also something people can mod and enhance on their own. Nothing is better pr than someone who has rebuilt or moded a car because that means they will almost never shut up or talk bad about it. I hope that it can be like the YT series where the stock is really good on its own but if you want to put the time and money behind it you can get a ship better than most custom orders from high end ship designers.
Edit: just thinking about it its like the whole pc vs console argument with consoles being good for around a decade before being left behind and needing to buy a new one while a pc can be updated whenver you need to
for our first ships i think were going with the Rocinante for system patrol/escort craft and the Hull-C for our cargo ship

better to use known parts for our first couple of ships so that people can feel more comfortable with them. Dont want to start making our own until we get some good pr and some funding behind us better to take some known hits up front than potentially sink all our funding into a engine that the dice gods decide doesnt want to work.
There is always the possibility of the Toscan 8. Their hulls are good, but they are let down by substandard parts for the rest.
Just buying hulls and making the rest would be a way to accelerate things.
Another alternative is building the equivalent of custom yachts for the idle rich.
A small and fast yacht with some sort of ion cannon and concussion missile launcher might make a nice patrol vessel. Or with an other armament style make for a good gunship.
And one thing to easily up the bite of any small craft. Weapons pods, especially external missile pods.
With the talk of modularity what about making a series of ship 'blocks'. Assemble as desired to form a ship. Effectively letting the customer customise what they want with relative ease. Using a single block as a unit if a module needs to be bigger then it'll be so in block measurements. A 2x1 or 3x4x2 etc. Maybe when we get a bit of good PR.
Sure, I was just spitballing ideas. But given how cheap the hulls of Toscans are said to be and as they are said to be easily configurable, might they not make for a good test bed for components?

I have to agree we can purchase a few Toscans to use as weapon/systems test platform. On another note in terms of weapon systems how difficult would it be to create something the like tri rotary blaster from the Trident (Oban star racers)? Seems to have a decent balance of power and accuracy.
