The Strident-class heavy frigate would be a good Star Wars cruiser I think. At 575 meters, it would be only 25 meters shorter than the Dreadnought heavy cruiser. And with our special weapon generator it would enable very good weapons. And with our honeycomb construction it will be very robust and well armored. In addition, the bridge would be on top of the ship, but it is pretty close to the ship. And that means we have more space than when she is in the ship itself.
Good design idea. We would have to really work on this design in order to make this effective in the Star Wars setting. The first thing we can remove from the original design is the mac gun. Possibly replace it with a series of torpedo tube or ion cannons. If the Donnager is the mainstay capital ship the Strider should be a AA type cruiser design to act in cohesion with a support fleet.

I personally like that the look of the ships isn't spezified. We only know the modules, length and such, leaving it's actual design up to the Reader. Thus everyone can have their design they want.

@Jax, I got to ask, but do you consider the star wars mystery ships that E.C Henry fleshed out to be canon in this quest?

To my knowledge those are Galactic Civil War era designs though given the age of some craft used by the rebels they could just be old ships they've picked up. Either way I'd guess they're probably newer designs than currently covered by this quest.

It depends, but mostly it doesn't matter. The only reason why I would look at those is, to have a visual reference. Besides that, they usually have too few information to use as a reference for any stats.

New to the thread, willing to join in for the fun! Looks like we just maxed out (or nearly did) on the revised cockpit design, what are we looking at for weapon configuration? I'm seeing a lot of hate for the Mass drivers in the thread (it does get brought up V E R Y frequently, so can't blame ya there) but I can see a utility in it that a conventional laser system lacks; ammunition variance. While laser systems are generally capable of only changing the scale of power output, the ammunition load for a mass driver can be modified for the mission type. AP rounds for hard targets, Ion rounds for shielded targets, and belts are capable of supporting a combination of these rounds (3 ap:1 ion for instance). there are likely rounds that I'm not even thinking about at this time that could be fitted for use in such a weapon. They do come at a cost of limited ammo as well as projectile speed, but can possibly hit harder than conventional weaponry as well as have minor target correction built in for fancier rounds.

As for conventional weaponry, we have several routes we can go through. I would think the best setup would have a mix of ion/laser cannons as well as a one or two warhead launchers. tractor beams have quite a bit of utility and can be incredibly powerful when used properly, but generally have a limited range and seem to be more effective on larger capital ships. A warhead launcher would be extremely handy as it can handle many mission loadouts while being relatively compact (the famous T65 X-Wing used in the Death Star Run had a pair of launchers with a small magazine holding 3 torpedoes per launcher + 1 in each tube. The launchers + targeting system could fit in a convention bathtub with room to spare).

Doubling back to powering the turbolasers directly from the main reactor for the initial Vulcan Corvette design, why not use disposable fuses to prevent/minimize damage to the power system due to an overload? Just as the Mon Calamari have modular shields that can be replaced quickly when they burn out, I would think something similar could be done to prevent a complete overload.
