"Well, I'm going to say it now," Pika's voice broke the silence around the holo tank. "I'm working with idiots! Whose idea was that with the Astromech? A droid isn't a proper replacement for a navigation computer! And even if you do it, why install him locally without the possibility of leaving the bridge? That is stupid! When I said to reduce the room below the weapons console to put something else there, I didn't mean reducing it that much! Or putting a caf-automate there! Whoever that was better make sure his or her signature does not appear in the change log!"
The Dug took a deep breath and his right foot pulled out his pack of spice-sticks as he turned to the door. "I'm going to smoke now. When I return, you little Jawas better have some solutions for that Hutt shit, or I'm going to go full Trandoshen on your arses!"
You barely managed to jump out of his way as he angrily left the department, leaving a group of scared engineers behind him. They all looked at you, pleading to help them, and you could only sigh. Maybe you should ask the Temaris School of Engineers to send one of the teachers up so they could refresh your team's memories on cockpit design? But that wouldn't help your poor employees now.
You sighed heavily and gave them a weak smile. "All right, people, let's hear your ideas! How can we make sure that Pika doesn't commit murder when he returns?"
"Remove the caf-automate." Laugher followed Shen's dry comment, and you couldn't help but grin at that.
"That's the spirit, Shen! But I think we need more than that. How about we find a way to get the Astromech out of the cockpit?"
"Well, we didn't put an Astromech there because we thought it was funny, Boss. Conventional nav-computers take up to much space. They are even bigger than the Astromech! Even with the limited jump calculation ability of an Astromech, the ship at least can jump," one of the engineers said, the desperation in his voice clear to hear.
With a sudden wusssh sound, the blast doors leading into the department opened up again and revealed a smoking Dug who walked in on his hands. Pika had a thoughtful look on his face and ignored the scared stares he was getting from his colleagues. He stopped before the holo tank and took a long drag from his spice-stick, exhaling its smoke. Pointing with the spice-stick at the engineer who had spoken earlier, he said, "Your idea wasn't that bad. But the Astromech takes too much space. Why don't we rip just the computer out of them? Or better yet, just order the nav-computers without the droid? Two or three of those little wonders will be enough for a proper calculation and won't take that much space. Won't be cheap, but it will help us greatly to get this shit working."
"Dumb question here." Shen held up his hand as he stepped next to Pika. Ignoring the smoke bubble he was standing in, the Duros pointed to the middle of the ship. "But why do we have to put the nav-computer into the cockpit? Why not put it here, at the main computer?"
"It is a dumb question, Shen. I hope you are aware of the Republic Ship Safety Regulation 16161 that forbids the installation of a main computer that doubles as a nav-computer?"
"Oh, I know, dear Pika. And that wasn't what I meant. I asked why we couldn't put the nav-computer next to the main computer. Both are separate computers that are connected, nothing more. I mean, why put the nav-computer in the cockpit in the first place? Seems like a waste to me."
Pika grunted and stared at the holo. Then he shrugged. "That would be possible, yes. It is a bit inconvenient, and we would need to enlarge the main computer room. It has the advantage that it wouldn't cost that much. Good thinking for a Duros, Shen." Ignoring the angry look he got from Shen, Pika turned his head and looked at you. "Seems like it is your turn now, Boss. Either we buy these small nav-computers they put into Astromechs, or we enlarge the computer room."
"Or take the sour bite, starting all over, and lose a month of work, right?"
Again Pika shrugged. "Yeah, or that."
Chose one:
[ ] Just make the cockpit a bit larger, then it will work just fine. (Size: Normal, -4 Flaws, Cost 4)
[ ] Let's get some Astromech nav-computers and put them into the cockpit. (+2 Cost)
[ ] Extend the computer room and put the nav computer there. (-1 Compartment, -2 Flaws)
[ ] Start over again. (Overall Cost +1)
I always wondered why people called it "shipping". On the other hand, to some that might be a pretty great deal. "Warship and woman, sounds good to me"
[X] Let's get some Astromech nav-computers and put them into the cockpit. (+2 Cost)
Either this or accept that a month of work is gone to waste already and do this:
[X] Start over again. (Overall Cost +1)
-[X] Use real life dice to roll for this.
--[X] If it is a bad roll then write "Property of Sufficientvelocity" on them and ritually kill them. With a blow torch. And every dice they were within an arms reach of.
--[X] Get new dice from a store in another town/village/city and go to the immediate church and have them blessed.
-[X] Rinse and Repeat till we get excellent rolls.
-[X] Call some colleagues that work at the Temaris School of Engineers to send your team some refreashers.
At this point it is the only safe thing to do.
Let's try this.
