My reasoning is quite simple. The droid research team is OP, we don't need a frame expert now cause we're not working on a frame and I wish I could have gone with the stress reduction as my second option, but I think a test pilot will always be useful no matter what we're doing.
Edit: do we know what the +1 personal stat does? does it just add +1 to the relevant stat or is it +1 roll for that stat (as in a free reroll if we roll badly)
Edit #2: looking back at the rules it seems that the D6 roll only affects the flaws/advantages and not much else? That doesn't seem right
Right so using the corvette frame roll as an example we rolled 2,6,5 (we had +1 roll from the decision) which gave us a frame that had
Compartment: 15 (IDK how this was calculated)
Advantage: 6 (roll 6: +3 roll 5: +2 roll 2: +1)
Flaw: 2 (roll 6: +0 roll 5: +1 roll 2: +2 Simulation: -1)
So where does personal stat come in? Where does the company stat come in?
You use your personal stats if your character does more than simply overwatch the team. So if you personally get involved these stats are used, they cost stress. At the moment it hasn't been used that much.

No I mean in general what does it do? Like for the droid research team if we got the 6 roll what would bumping it up to a 7 do for us? Cause if it would only add another advantage then the QA team is just better.

You had never had the pleasure to work with a Dug before. To say it is an experience is an understatement. Pika Bheilwod was a genius, and he just loved to remind anybody about it, especially anyone working below him in the team. For him, everything was a fight for dominance, and it took a few weeks for everyone to grow used to it. Once the team learned how to deal with Pika's somewhat fragile ego, things became smoother. And now it showed why he was so highly recommended when you looked for a cockpit and bridge design specialist.
As a test, you gave him one of the horrible designs your team had come up with before. He took one look at it and thankfully remembered his stern lecture from Personnel Resources about public behavior when at work. His screams of rage could still be heard through the heavy blast door coming from the adjacent corridor. It took half an hour (and a short call from security) until he returned, smoking a slight Spice Zigarette. With a dark look on his face, he started to work on the concept, still mumbling angrily about the sheer idiocy of whoever had come up with it in the first place.
What he came up with was still bad, but it was clearly the best that could be gotten out of the design without starting from scratch. You also had to promise Pika to never let anyone involved in this attempt design a cockpit. Or else he wouldn't take responsibility for what happened next. He didn't seem to joke, you noted uneasily.
Besides Pika Bheilwod, you expanded your team in another direction also. To increase your ships' quality, you urged your father to buy a small corporation that specialised in finding flaws in designs. They were a bit hesitant at first, but apparently, the deal your father offered was too good to be ignored. Now they had their own rooms on your deck of the shipyard and wait for the first real job. They mainly checked more minor fixes in the ship computers' programming and gave advice for removing minor flaws in finished designs.
Admiral Nym was an impressive figure to look at. His admiral's uniform from the Royal Naboo Space Force looked as if it would struggle to not burst from his muscular body. Besides that, he wore said uniform like a cliché holonet pirate and made you chuckle as he came towards you from the airlock. You had come down to greet him personally as soon as you heard his ship arrived. He sent a broad grin in your direction and came towards you, reaching for your hand.
"Dovar Frox, how are you? Good, I hope, it's been almost a year since we met, and I'm still not getting my squadron of corvettes. Bad mouths might assume you robbed me blind, like a pirate, eh?"
"We first had another project to be finished, you know? The one for the ORSF and Colonel Tarkin. Now that they have their Vulkan Corvettes, it is time that Naboo gets its squadron," you told him with a grin of your own. "Come, this way, please, and I will show you where the magic happens."
"Magic? Ha! I like the sound of that."
"Wonderful." You returned his grin and led him towards your department. "Have you had a chance to take a look at the corvettes we made for the ORSF? I would like to hear your opinion as a former pirate turned admiral."
For a moment, the Hero of Naboo was silent as he walked beside you through the busy corridors of the shipyard. You noticed the looks he received from the workers. More than one looked a bit starstruck. You couldn't blame them, not after all the reports, portraits, and the Holonet Action Series that had been published about and with him. Finally, the ex-pirate ended the silence that had settled between the two of you.
"I haven't seen one in a real fight myself, only simulations and some battle data that the Colonel sent me. Until I know how they behave under me, I can't truly give a review that I will fully support. But going by what I know, I've to say that impressive is not giving your little shipyard enough credit. You have come up with a tough, agile little ship. Sadly, it's a bit wasted in the hands of the ORSF. It needs the tender hands of proper pilots."
"And by proper, you mean former pirates, right?"
The grin of the Admiral got even wider if that even was possible. In his eyes, you could see a malicious twinkle. "By proper, I mean highly motivated, former privateers who may or may not have joined the Royal Naboo Space Force. All of these said individuals are lawful citizens who have never broken any laws or have been involved in the act of piracy. You can check their personal files if you don't believe me. Despite what the Trade Federation tells you, all who were involved in the Liberation of Naboo were law-abiding and not pirates."
"Of course, Admiral," you answer with barely concealed sarcasm in your voice. When you reach your department, you give Admiral Nym a slight bow and point to the blast door. "And here we are. After you, sir, through the door."
With a nod in your direction, the Admiral stepped through the door into the design department. His gaze quickly swiped through the room, no doubt an old reflex as he automatically searched for potential dangers. He didn't find any hidden bounty hunters or assassins sent by the Trade Federation and focused his attention on the large holo tank in the middle of the room used to display the current project. Or better known as the base model of the Vulkan Corvette, its frame, and the engine block.
"So, that is the base of your corvette, huh? Impressive design, I must say, but a bit naked. I had expected you would include at least the bridge."
"We thought about it but came to the conclusion that it would be better if we customized the bridge, to ensure that all the systems work together as best possible. This way, we can trim the bridge to the ship's needs and not have to find ways to get square Banthas through a circle. Even if that means that the production cost goes up a bit. We can still, of course, add standard command modules or older designs of our make to the ship -- if the customers want it."
"But it won't work that well, or at least you tell that to the buyers, right?"
"The best results are achieved if the bridge is designed for the ship. Only then can we promise the high standards of our product. Standard parts come with standard problems," you replied with a small smile and caused the Admiral to laugh loudly.
"Said like a true used ship salesman! If you ever grow tired of building ships, you could try to sell them. You know their phrases by heart, it seems."
"I'm unsure if you just insulted me or made a compliment."
"Neither do I, to be honest. I was a pirate, and I've never met any beings more cutthroat than used ship salesmen. Take it as you wish." As he spoke, Nym took a few steps closer to the hologram and had another long look at it. When he turned back, he bowed his head lightly. "So, where can we talk about what we need in our squadron of Corvettes? Because our needs differ from the ORSF."
Need to gather those 30 advantage with the base we have -23. all those are +1 and our large is 0 so whole new is needed. in request isnt a thing about amount of weapons so +1 weapon with large isnt necessity and with the Dug your presnonal involvment would be only a hindrance for him.
maybe start other part yourself with the rest of the team or direct your focus how to get as many advantage as possible.
Maybe it's time to look at railguns as those should be super effective against starfighters. Those small ships use only deflector shields as a rule but with the energy necessary they coverage was only on important parts and not the whole fighter. not to mencion most if not all (ofcorse there are those expensive and luxurios) wont have a particle shields doe to cost and energy needed.
But it will waits for now as we dont know yet how much compartment will by left after the whole things is prepered for weapon stage.
Just a note: as a space station and docks and with a new segment of company bought from outside you should check the state of local pests like Manocks and Exogorths. It would be sad if you build ships and export them only to find your docks and shipyards are infested with those and get a delay with shipment i could even imagine to be purposly infested thanks to competition in the region or from the bigger company.
Well good to see this ship doesn't need to be as packed as the last ship but it might be a bit bare bones to have 5 free compartments. Probably best to focus on speed since this thing looks to be more of a fighter screen then a warship so giving it the chance to catch up with fighters or just run away should it come up against a ship that can outgun it would probably be a good boon for the ship
Of note 0 compartment space free. We need to do a small sized to free up 2 compartment spot (of note we can only spend 10 total, 11 with small)
Looking at components from the previous Simple Crew Bunks are 2 compartment, 1 advantage and 2 cost each, strong shields are 4 compartment 6 advantage 2 flaws cost 4, that spends 8 compartment of the 10 free right there unless there is a shield between light and strong we are going to have some trouble.
So right now- we have a net of 5 advantage +1d6 from Q&A. Assume 2 bunks and 1 strong shield, takes us to:
Compartment: 7
Advantage: 15
Flaw: 4
Cost: 16
Hmmm... we may need to go with small for the bridge for the +1 compartment that it provides as is we can barely put any weapons on this thing due to lack of space, with a small bridge we can fit 3 double deaths on this thing and a single double death is worth the the -1 weapon that small gives
