Side Note: If the opportunity ever comes up, I really want us to hire the Rogue Xi Char engineer who designed the Guardian Mantis.
Well the person I was asking was saying it would be a picket ship like most star wars corvettes and frigates are and keep in mind most ships at those sizes are perfect for star wars anti-fighter roles where as is we kept the Roci line at it's original 46 meters it would be a heavy bomber/gunship while yes being that small will allow you to go faster the role of a picket/anti-fighter ship isn't to chase around fighter and bombers over the battlefield it's to stay near the capital ships and protect them from enemy fighter and bombers using lots of laser cannons and good speed and maneuverability to get into position to do that, leaving the chases and dogfights to the fighters.maybe build it as carrier?
i was thinking we wouldn't. keep it small since its more meant to be a law enforcment vessel then a ship of the line.
I was thinking of the Donnager as a type of Heavy Cruiser Carrier, so a cruiser with longer range heavier armament and faster engines than regular cruisers of its weight and size with a considerable carrying capacity, i think this would work well for the Donnager because you could replace the 4 (i thought they only had 2 my bad) heavy railguns with Battleship or Star Destroyer level Turbolasers. This would give it some very serious oomph and allow the Donnager to take on basically any type of ship in straight up combat and make most criminals reconsider attacking it in its duty as a convoy escort craft and absolutely lethal in a convoy raider scenario. Another plus of this ship would be its internal carrying capacity with it being able to hold up to 6 of the Rocinante class ships comfortably. This means that if we made that hold easily re-configurable people could easily turn it into storage for cargo, medical facilities, Hanger Bays, etc. Another plus of that hold is how many fighters it could carry, being able to hold 6 fast attack boats like the Roci means that, with some easy modifications, could easily fit more than 20 Y-wing Bombers and other small craft in its hold. This means that whenever you attack a Donnager you would not know what exactly you are getting into because of the high customization the class has and the amount of extra ships it can carry in its internal Hangers. This is not to mention the amazing Missile and Torpedo load out that the ship can carry allowing it to destroy entire battlegroups if left alone. Its anti fighter/Missile defense is nothing to sneeze at either making it suicide to send in small craft against it. With all of this added up from its Heavy Guns, excellent speed, great carrying capacity, amazing point defense and high customization ability the Donager is a great Cruiser class ship that can fill basically any roll for any mission with enough speed, firepower and surviveability to let it go up against any contemporary and come out ahead.maybe build it as carrier?

That is the kind of thinking to get ahead in life.I was thinking of the Donnager as a type of Heavy Cruiser Carrier, so a cruiser with longer range heavier armament and faster engines than regular cruisers of its weight and size with a considerable carrying capacity, i think this would work well for the Donnager because you could replace the 4 (i thought they only had 2 my bad) heavy railguns with Battleship or Star Destroyer level Turbolasers. On the subject of the Roci i feel that we could comfortable bump up the size of the ship to around 60 meters tall from its current 46. This would give it the ability to pack in better shields, a bigger reactor, more torpedoes and better armor. This up size would give it better suriviveability in combat and make it a tougher opponent against smugglers and the like. This up size doesn't even hurt its ability to be carried by the Donager with the Donagers hold, by my rough calculations to be 70m Tall, 55m long and 30m wide. This upgrade would allow the Roci to still keep its deadly speed and agility in space combat while making it that much more dangerous to its opponents.
This is what i imagine both ships rolls and specs to be with the Donnager as a highly dangerous Heavy Cruiser/Carrier Hybrid and the Roci to be a analogue to the PT boats of WW2 being fast deadly and very hard to hit and avoid.
It feels like that'd be way above the small shipbuilding company we're starting out as. Barring some absolute craziness from dice, I don't see us getting our hands on the tech. Definitely not before the age of the Empire. On the other hand with all the obsession over Starfighters & Carriers, what if we built ships based on anti-starfighter doctrine like Interdiction Cruisers?
Pull ships out of hyperspace early and into battlefields of our customer's choosing and prevent them from escaping?
Then the System Patrol Craft market may be lucrative. I will admit trying to outdo the Pursuer-class enforcement ship & the PB-950 would be tough. It feels like that'd be way above the small shipbuilding company we're starting out as. It depends on how much you will design truly your own and when you take parts that are on the market. As a reminder of why this matters: parts you design can be much better than the shelf once, the shelf once on the other hand are cheaper and add a known amount of Advantage / Flaws to your design.Quick question Jax what is the turn length going to be like? Weeks, months maybe.
not saying that it should be our first vessel for those i whole heartedly support designing and building Rocis and Hull C ship but say in maybe 2-3 years could we make a prototype vessel as a proof of concept. as i stated earlier the design i had in mind for the Donager was as the best Escort craft for merchant convoys because of how it would be able to protect against any type of pirate vessels and screen a convoy single handedly due to the ships it carries, and if need be could we maybe tone down the amount of firepower to get the ships into production? i mean stronger ships are being made already and since the clone wars are only a decade away id imagine that military production is going to be ramping up soon, cant make galaxy spanning navys in a month or two. I know that as it stands it might be a bit to much considering how the galaxy is but maybe in a few years? It depends on how much you will design truly your own and when you take parts that are on the market. About the Donnager idea, its a good idea but way ahead of the time. Currently, the Judicial's would come down on your company faster than Qui-gon gets a lightsaber in his belly. The problem is that, yes, it's a good ship for military use and the idea to customize it is even better - the market for heavy ships isn't there. And if you try to market it as a quick reaction force kind of ship, they won't buy. The chances are too high that it ends in the hands of Pirates. And why would a PDF wish to raid convoys? If you still wish to buy it, it will end as a Legends version of the Gozanti, at least for now.
That isn't the problem, the Judicial's might fear that these ships will go into the wrong hands. The same thing that happened to the Gozanti-Cruiser. Remember, for the longest time the built-up from both sides was well hidden. That's why the Clone Wars came as such a suppries. At the moment you aren't part of one of the fraction. In universe, your alter ego will be as suppriesed as anybody else - at least from were you stand now.not saying that it should be our first vessel for those i whole heartedly support designing and building Rocis and Hull C ship but say in maybe 2-3 years could we make a prototype vessel as a proof of concept. as i stated earlier the design i had in mind for the Donager was as the best Escort craft for merchant convoys because of how it would be able to protect against any type of pirate vessels and screen a convoy single handedly due to the ships it carries, and if need be could we maybe tone down the amount of firepower to get the ships into production? i mean stronger ships are being made already and since the clone wars are only about a decade away id imagine that military production is going to be ramping up soon, cant make galaxy spanning navys in a month or two. thats why i want to make a small production/proof of concept run i a few years. the main goal in my mind is to be able to break our teeth on heavier military designs and even if we can only keep one ship as a test bed for other tech it would allow us to refine our military ships and work out kinks. another thing that having even just 1 or 2 of them around would allow us to do would be to show them off when the war does kick off and be able to market them as a design that has had its kinks worked out. i get that the judicary forces wouldnt like it and thats why im saying that we could make only one or 2 a few years from now just for us to refine tech on and if we get lucky sell a few to local governments. Test bed ships for companies would most likely not immediatly cause the hammer of god/jedi to come down on us as long as we can show that we arn't planning on turning around and selling them to the hutts or criminals. Again i am not advocating for this to be done any time in the near future but something to do consider doing down the line so we can at least get some practical work in on cruiser grade military ships. That isn't the problem, the Judicial's might fear that these ships will go into the wrong hands. Makes sense I guess I just never understood why it was liked by pirates sure it had armor and guns but it was slow as hell and if I wanted to go around stealing ships I'd want a fast ship over a slow moving bunker. Just my opinion tho
It was made that way so that pirats wouldn't use it. If not it wouldn't had been allowed to be built. Basicly it had to be made so worse that it couldn't been used by pirats.Makes sense I guess I just never understood why it was liked by pirates sure it had armor and guns but it was slow as hell and if I wanted to go around stealing ships I'd want a fast ship over a slow moving bunker. Moichandising!
10 years. The clone wars was around 3 years in canon.Hmm, maybe we should shelf the Donnager idea until the war has been kicked off and has ran its course a bit, that way we would have a reason for designing it.
Edit: does anybody remember how long it was between the naboo crisis and the start of the war?
