Could we do something like have two Koensayr engines? Just asking out of curiosity.
You could but the question is why? You would double the cost for a minor updated from speed. These are small engines, better fitting for a small courier ship like the one Kyle Katarn uses. Or you could put them on a bomber I suppose ...

Eh, was mostly interested for reliability reasons. One engine fails on you, you've still got another that can keep the ship running.

[X] CEC Light Freighter Engine

Engine is not one of the things you skimp on for "fast and cheap." You make it fast with a good engine and you can kinda skimp on a lotta other things. Also of note, it looks like we have 11 compartments on this thing.

Leaving space for after market upgrades seems like a good idea to me, we might not have the licence to manufacture some of the better or more specialized equipment. And it would cut down on cost concerns, as The Far Trade Company only needs to modify a small amount of ships to fill niche rolls, while the rest act as general merchant freighters, ferrying passengers and cargo. Of course who knows what selection of goodies will be presented to us. We might fill every bolt hole, damn the costs if its cool enough. Ship design, what a great quest idea.

KDY is overall worse and costs more, whereas Koensayr is cheap and small but slow and without the advantage/flaw boost.

Name: CEC NovaQuad-D
Size: Normal
Speed: 4
Maneuverability: 2
Advantage: 3
Flaw: 1
Cost: 4

There's a reason CEC products are popular with small and independent freighter fleets.

And look at the extra flaws we can earn as well!!!:V

Looks relatively expensive, but it gives great amount of speed along with 3 advantages and a measly one disadvantage....
Yes a minor flaw that is removed when we get to that stage of the project. It is like you don't read the information rules on how we make these ships or something.

:???::???:. Could you point out where you got that??? I might have missed something reading the rules.....
From what I gathered, we gain advantages and disadvantages, with some ways to remove disadvantage points, like what may have been implied in update about the frame, with the two canceling each other out at the end of the project until only one kind is left, and then they get translated into boons or problems in the final product....:oops:

I feel like this is a solid choice but we may want to grab some of the cheaper options for the later stuff since the thing the customers want most is a cheap ship. So as long as going with the cheap option doesn't give the design to many flaws I feel like they should take priority... again as long as it doesn't compromise the ship as a whole. I just feel like making a cheap(ish) and reliable ship would be the best way to get our foot in the door as it would be affordable to more people and if we can get a reputation for good reliable ships as well would be a good way to start making a name for ourselves.

Turns
The quest has different turns in which you decide what happens to the design of the ship. These turns are in the following order:
  • Procurement
  • Frame
  • Engine
  • Cockpit
  • Weapons
  • Special Compartment if needed
  • Testing Phase / You can try to remove flaws here. Depending on the deadlines, you might have this turn more than once.
  • Result / Company Phase

Right above testing is literally there to remove flaws and every step after procurement is about building advantages and flaws per equipment. Which is why the frame the most important part of any ship should have had its cost brought down as much as possible because we could have afforded to choose a more expensive option in another turn for a bigger and better end result.

Did we ever get a guideline on what cost is for various ships? That is how much is the cost 4 engine towards our goal. It does seem we can carry a slight flaw deficit and try to fix in the test phase.

It puts us at a cost total of 5 right now. The end goal is to bring the cost total as low as possible here.
Right, but what is low compared to other ships? With our first ship and seeing the system for the first time we don't really have a comparison, though I am likely to push for spending 2 advantages on trying to reduce cost for the engine.

After this tutorial, where we learn mechanics, get familiar with the design process, and solve the immediate and looming financial threat, we can focus on designing are own engines etc. I wonder how our frame competes with other light freighters. We made it cheap, so I wonder how fragile it will be, or if our teams genius is enough to lower cost without compromising structural integrity.

the entire point of the price reduction option was non-critical parts and materials got replaced without damaging the the frame at all.

okay then, seems SV didn't want me to know this quest was updated for some reason
