"We found a strange crystal in the latest shipment we raided. With how well defended the shipment was, this clearly isn't some common crystal"
"That, seems to be a kyber crystal, though they usually aren't that big. Some records say that they were in some way tied to the Jedi, and like many other cultures, have venerated these crystals."
"Where did I hear of Kyber before?"
"So, why would the empire want Religious relics?"
"Not sure, the only guess is that it seems that the crystals may have been involved with some coming of age ceremony, where they also get their personal lightsaber."
"That's it! Galan Erso made an interesting article on the potential of Kyber crystals as a power source! It is the kyber crystal that is the core of why a lightsaber could function, and even small pieces, such as the ones usually found holds great amounts of energy that could be tapped."
"Great. So the Empire is looting religious crystals to power some secret project. Really don't like the sound of this"
"Well, what do we do with this big thing?"
"Any idea where it came from? It might have come from some sort of temple."
"We can't exactly track it's source. And even if we could, the empire would just loot it again, considering they seem to be gathering them for something."
"And they will probably want it back, painting an even bigger target on us."
"Couldn't we possibly hook it up on our ship's power grid?"
"That... Likely would require rewiring the whole ship to handle the power that connecting the crystal to the grid might give, and since we don't even know how much power a small one would give, we would want to experiment first. But if this works, we could possibly overhaul the ship to take advantage of having a lot more power to play with."
"The crystals could also open other opportunities, though it's religious importance should likely always be at least considered when Kyber is involved. Especially as there might be some aspects that Galan Erso would have been unable to detect when studying them, especially with how entwined the Kybur crystals were to the Jedi."
*A small period of silence*
"Good point, some of the stories of jedi can get really crazy, and with just how connected the Jedi were to it, to the point Jedi blocked attempts to research it, it is entirely possible that the Jedi could have been able to tap into another aspect of the crystals. One that is not known due to the lack of means to study the source of the Jedi's power."
A/N: A little something here. And also, funny note, legends Kyber crystals were kinda just pretty gems until a Jedi attunes it, and only really noted for use in Lightsabers. While Canon has them be immensely powerful objects that had been used in many superweapons, including the Death Star...
Now, how exactly that might merge, no idea. And honestly, only old order Jedi, and possibly a very few amount outside would even know how exactly the two bits may merge.
