[X] Danara has had one goal for so long she barely remembers any other: She will see the Emergency destroyed. And it seems like there's a Fleet and a Pod here that are just as eager for it.

youu have to be fucking kidding me, i just woke up

Because I'm a softie, both in regards to characters who've undergone trauma and in regards to our GM.

In all honesty, given the extraordinarily tight vote here (I did delete one of my own restoring the tie 😅) I would like to see the update maybe showing how much Danara is struggling with her decision here.

Also, I know we voted a while ago that we would kind of move on here, and I was an advocate of that choice... are people still feeling like sticking to that? IDK, as we've gotten more involved here, and liberating this pod was surprisingly much easier than I expected, I'm feeling a temptation to stay and finish what we started.

Same, with what we've kept learning of them I definitely wanna see the Viidian situation through to the point where at least the Emergency no longer exist.

Skippy, my baby, my sweet summer child: there are more than one Vidiian episode.

Like, the emergency is spread across this area of space, very dispersed! You can't liberate them all at once anyway.

Sure, but the vote was basically "Are we go to try and organise and lead an alliance to reform the Vidiian Emergency, even if this means Starfleet Academy students on Earth are definitely going to write essays in fifty years about 'Janeway Cortez', or are we going to adhere to Starfleet principles and show a better path, but not violently intervene in another culture?". That decision is still relevant to ponder as we travel through this area of space and encounter other Pods; it plays into how we will behave a lot. Although we kind of have spent the last dozen or so updates violently interfering, so maybe it's a moot point now.

There are also immediate questions to consider. Like, is it worth capitalising on this victory and flying to the HQ of the Nurel Pod and couping the whole thing, giving the Vidiian Liberation a much stronger base to operate from? Should we make serious efforts to contact the Kazon and broker an alliance, as was suggested before? etc. etc. etc.

If this is code for "I don't want to get too far into the weeds on this one", then that's fine, but they're the kind of questions I think Janeway and the gang might be starting to consider.

[edit] sorry. didn't fully read the forum first.

Both? Both. Both is good.

I would argue that we came in and threw a hand grenade unto the cornerstone of Viidian society, so we have a duty to see this through and help them through the transition.
It doesn't have to be all one way either, with Starfleet technology we might create life extension technology for the crew to take advantage of in exchange for something like replicators.

I can also see Danara wanting to finish the fight, but then realizing that she's an alien in modern Viridian society, and deciding to accompany Voyager as she decides what she wants next.

Wholesome Distaff Zakalwe is a super neat concept to explore more.

PHAGE: PART TWO (1.6)
Danara rubbed her hands together and considered, first, the tactics. The position of ships, the angle of phaser fire, the use of railguns against ships with the combat and warp maneuvering capacity of the USS Voyager.

Then, recalling what she had once heard during a staff briefing, she thought of the operations - the time it would take for ships to move from point to point on a map that was blazed into her brain with long practice and study of the Nurel clique and their enemies territory. What everyone else called the Vidiian Emergency, as if the Emergents had ever been a unified front, even back when they had just been grasping murderers on a single barely warp capable planet.

Then she thought about strategy - long term goals. Futures. Possibilities for a life after all of this.

And then she thought about how extremely tired she was.

Danara rubbed her palms against her face, and quietly, she asked: "What's your course and destination?" Her voice was soft and sad, already resigned to the long fight ahead of her.

Janeway slid a PADD across the table to her. "This is the preliminary projection we have..." she said, softly. Danara took it - and felt something so unexpected and strange it was almost bitter on her tongue. She read the astromap twice, three times, her eyes skimming over it. Her mouth opened, then closed again, then opened.

"Y-You're going straight through this region of space?" she asked. "There's pods here, here, here, here, and here." She said, tapping out.

Janeway smiled, wryly. "Well, we're not exactly going to seek out war with the Emergency...if we're in the area, we can swing by. I've been in conversation with Captain Rox, and she says that the Nurels won't be able to threaten this Pod for years without building up a fleet - and in that time, they have plans to...bleed off some of their members with cure offers and similar efforts. We plan to travel on - so that Nurel allies have to worry about us and not Liberté."

Danara let herself smile. She looked at Janeway, into her eyes, for the first time in the conversation. Her smile grew wider. "Can I come with you?" she asked, softly.

"Of course," Janeway said. "We've got room enough. It's a big ship."

Danara dropped her gaze to the map.

And on it she saw two things she had never imagined would be available at the same time. The first...

The first was a chance. If they were traveling near the major Pods, they would be able to intervene. At the speeds the ship went, the Pods wouldn't have any idea that they were in danger until they had arrived, and without others like her, she was fairly sure none of their command and control organizations would be on par with...well...her. There was a fairly good chance that they could not merely break the spine of the Emergency, but completely disband it down to a few runaway ex-Podmasters, clinging to what scraps of power they had. All in...a year, maybe two. It would be a war, yes. But it'd be a war fought hit and run, fading between Pods to sweep between space, to regroup and refit and...according to the course glyphs, 'explore.'

She wasn't sure what that was a euphemism for. She'd have to find out later.

Operationally, it was a perfect split on their forces. The crew of the Voyager seemed sure of their logistic train...and the fleet would be left at Pod-2...no, Pod-Liberté. And they'd be able to hold down the majority of Nurel's attention - Nurel would be focused on defense, leaving Voyager free to wreck havock in the Emergency and...

And she...

The second thing she had never imagined bloomed in her mind.

"I can take a vacation," she said.

"Wait till you see the holodeck!" Tom Paris said, cheerfully. A little forced. But cheerfully.

"Holo...deck?" Danara asked, cocking her head.

"We'll get you settled, T'are, can you handle that?" Janeway asked.

"Gladly," T'are said, standing - Danara joining her. The two walked from the room, T'are already saying: "And don't worry, we've already gotten your food patterns into our replicators..."

The door hissed shut, and Brian Wacoche nodded as he turned in his seat to face the rest of them. "Well, I think that it was a good thing we adjusted our course. That woman is going to save our asses so many times, I'm sure of it."

"It's going to be hard going as we keep pushing," Torres said, grimly. "We took damage from this fight - and casualties. Only one KIA, but when we have no more new crew coming in unless we find and recruit them ourselves, every KIA counts...more than it usually does." She sighed, then shook her head. "The Pod's going to help us fix up, should take only three days for the two ships combined - we got lucky, if we had taken more damage, then we'd need more than just holes patched." She stood up as she did so. "I'll get a work plan."

"Very good, Torres," Janeway said. "Everyone else, dismissed."

The meeting room began to empty and Janeway allowed herself a tiny little bit of a second to relax. She closed her eyes, rolled her head back, and sighed.

In the quiet of her room, she said: "Next time, lets try to not need luck, eh?"

The Doctor scowled at Neelix.

"No," he said, flatly.

"But you said I needed cardio vascular exercise, to make sure my new lungs are working properly!"

"Walking into the Orion's bedroom is not cardio vascular exercise in your condition, it is a justification for a quite pleasant suicide. Well, pleasant until you begin to vomit blood over your partners," the Doctor said, frowning. "I have given you a physical therapy regime that will lead to significantly less blood, vomiting, blood vomit..."

Neelix sighed. "Oh, I will have to break T'are's heart."

"No Orion's heart has been broken by missing a single orgy partner."

"Ahem."

The two glanced over and Neelix came to a slight attention. "Miss Pel," he said, inclining his head to Denara Pel.

"Please, just...Danara," she said. "It's been a long time since anyone called me...Miss." She chuckled, softly. Shyly. "Makes me think of my...students." Her face fell. "I want to talk to...to him." She pointed at the Doctor and Neelix, his eyebrows going straight up to the ridge of his bangs, nodded and bowed, then left, whistling cheerfully.

"You left behind your physical therapy chart!" The Doctor called after him. Then. "I can see you going left, Neelix! That's...ah..." He made a disgusted flip of his hand, shaking his head as Danara stepped over, her hands behind her back.

"Um...I didn't get your name-"

"I don't have one," the Doctor said. "I am an Emergency Medical Hologram. If this ship had a physician that wasn't simulated, I would be in a state of blissful non-existence."

"...oh..." Danara frowned.

"I can tell what you're thinking and no, I am not a slave," the Doctor said. "My routines have been running nearly non-stop since this voyage of the damned started - and I've well passed the charmingly named Moriarty Threshold to qualify as a Federation citizen. All to the pity, I will now have to manage my energy credit taxes, be required to stand in for jury duty..." He trailed off, realizing Danara was watching him intently. "Yes?"

Danara blushed. "Just, um, if you don't have a name, I don't have anything...I mean...how can I thank you? For, uh..." She paused. "For me?"

The Doctor blinked at her. "I don't require your thanks," he said, sounding honestly confused.

Danara nodded, slightly. "Okay," she said, then turned and walked out of the room. There, she stood, hands on the doors. "If you're a projection, are you stuck here?"

"Yes," he said, unperturbed. "Why? Well, wait, no, I can go to the holodeck, if the mood ever strikes me."

Danara nodded again. "That's...sad, is all. I was stuck...in one place for a long time. In my head. And I don't like the idea that the man that saved me is trapped too." She turned back, and met his eyes. "Want to visit in the holodeck sometime?"

"I...could. Why?" The Doctor asked.

Danara blushed. "Just...reasons." She turned and hurried away.

The Doctor frowned, then turned back to his work. He paused, then said: "Computer, query: Why do people ask others to meet them in the holodeck?"

"Possible reasons for this query: Commercial or strategic discussion, training, wargaming, leisure and entertainment, romance."

The Doctor harrumphed.

Then the door to the sample closet burst open and Kes sprang out, her hands grabbing onto the Doctor's arm. "SHE ASKD YOU ON A DATE!"

"Good Heavens, how long have you been in there!?" The Doctor exclaimed, forgetting entirely that he had asked Kes to help sort the biological samples for their Phage project.

"You have to get something to wear!"

"It is not a date, Kes!"

"The computer-"

"The computer doesn't know romance from a randomizer."

"I'm a longue singer, Doctor, I know when women are asking men out!"

"You're a commando by profession-"

The Doctor was dragged, unwillingly, to the holodeck to try on new clothes.

Senior Podmaster Tomen Ser Nurel watched the strategic readouts from the Pens and frowned.

"This war just got a lot harder, didn't it," he said, quietly. "Project possible courses."

The map shimmered and he nodded.

"Open up subspace communications with the Haakonians, the Kazon-Pommar and..." He frowned. "Unlikely, but...might as well cover all the bases." He tapped the third possible course. "The Banea Technocracy."

"What shall be the contents of the message?"

"Have pycholinguistics draft up simple advert/communications, primarily focused on making them unfriendly to Voyager on a subconscious level - but also, include subliminal signaling to our deep cover agents. I want someone on each port they might reach to be ready to take advantage of any openings they see. Make it clear, free Product is on the line for this."

The communications handler nodded.

"What should the focus be?"

"Killing dragons, obviously," Tomen Ser Nurel muttered.
