Something Wicked (Villainous Magical Boy Quest)

Still on my CLAMP reading binge, I've finished Duklyon School Defenders.

I can only think of one thing.

These guys went to the same school as five of the Seven Seals.

(Technically not the same school, as X/1999 is a movie in their ´verse, but it's called the same, shaped the same and the same chairman shows up)

Picture this: a sunny morning, everyone on their way to geometry or Ethics, except Subaru, who's going to a lecture on Japanese Poetry.

They turn the corner, and see the library being attacked by the Imonoyama Shopping District Association and their Mushroom Mush monster.

Sorata: I may have used too much sake in last night's Sakamushi.

Subaru: No, you didn't. I can't get drunk and I'm seing them as well.

Also, remember when the Seals saw the Shinken's hiding place and Yuzuriha commented that it looked like a giant robot hangar ?
What if there was a giant robot (yes I know the Defenders don't have one I'm using my imagination), and the chairman got very embarrassed because they had to move the thing to put the Shinken and kept apologising.

And then, a few days later, guess who shows up ?
Fuuma: Look, things are supposed to be fair, balanced. I get a magic sword, you get a magic sword. I get seven Angels, you get seven Seals. I get a sunglasses-wearing assassin, you get the assassin's terminally depressed boyfriend. Now hand over the giant robot, Kamui, before things get nasty.

Kamui: The thing's not mine ! And anyway if I gave it to you you'd have a giant robot and we wouldn't.

Fuuma: Semantics.
Besides, I already asked Kanoe and she said no, there's no other options.

(As for why he wants a giant robot, he is a teenager after all.)

Seriously, at least Fuuma was possessed or something. Seishiro messed everything up all on his own.
Seishirou: Back in my day, we didn't need cosmic personality switches to irreperably traumatise our love interests, we did it by ourselves !
Kids today are so lazy, honestly.

Back to the actual quest.
Kaoru, as I've previously mentioned, is quite similar to the per-evil personality of several of the Titan's inspirations.

The thing is that going by character descriptions and dropped hints, the Titan isn't in his pre-evil personality.

He's, at the very least, assembling plans and minions and having a slow mental breakdown.

So either Kaoru is very good at pretending (which some of the Titan inspirations are) or he's been waking up wondering where the past few hours went off to.
Or he's not the Titan.

I mean there a few possibilities:
Kaoru isnt the Titan/and or Titan related.
Kaoru is either the Titan/ Titan reborn/Host/Split personality.
Kaoru is the Titan minion either willingly or not.
Kaoru is kinda related to whatever is going with the Titan, but not exactly involved.

I mean, on a tautological level you have covered most possibilities.
That means there are more possibilities to go over!
Kaoru killed and replaced the titan.
Kaoru made the Titan his minion.
Kaoru works for the Titan but only on weekends.
Kaoru and the Titan are both QMing the quest, and SillyLittleCoffee is both of them sharing an account.

If I was taking this seriously:

Those all fall under "Kaoru is the Titan/Titan reborn/etc" or "Kaoru is the Titan's minion". Or both.

lol

Here's a semi serious one that fall under "Kaoru is the Titan/Titan reborn they have some sort of Billy to literally hide their power level allowing them to avoid detection because final villains are allowed to be b******* like that

When you say "Billy" do you mean something along the lines of "Captain Marvel, the Superman-tier superhero, is actually Billy Batson, kindhearted kid with a magical boy transformation into a fully adult flying brick form?"

Only within that continuity, it'd be more like if Black Adam, Captain Marvel's gray-to-evil counterpart, could "step down" into seeming like a mild-mannered youth instead of being a muscled flying demigod all the time.

I have a question: Can experienced mages, such as Lady Starspite, conceal their magical signatures ? And what is Lady Starspite's power level dice-wise ?
Yes, they can! And Lady Starspite is a Master.
Here's this concerning magical detection.
Also, the one example of the Titan that I A) know a decent amount about and B) had his "good" personality be an outright facade and his "evil" personality be who he actually was and not a magic-induced personality switch like has been hinted at for our Titan, didn't bother to conceal his powers that much in front of the person he was planning to target, and in fact used them as a way to bond with their potential victim as said victim also practised magic from a young age.

Also, I wonder how the local Internet/rumour mill is going to react once all the monster attacks and sparkly magical girls arrive on the scene.
At some point, we're going to find some hikkimori with a detailed corkboard spread detailing how all of the recent events are actually a mass hallucination caused by the invasion of the mushroom people from the hollow earth.

This thought came up because I was wondering what conspiracy theories might exist in X/1999, what with their pentagram-shaped schools and secret government assassins and dreamseers living under the Diet building.
Shit must be crazy.

I may have discovered Inside Job recently.

So with humans having discovered magic/magical artifacts in the past, how advanced is this world's tech compared to our own ?
Also does the Moonbase Team know about the Artemis missions ? They're planning on sending people to the lunar South Pole and the Indian Space Agency landed a rover there recently as part of a separate program.
That might make a good mid-season plot, actually.
Zaiyu tries to sabotage the program so that the humans don't land in their backyard, the MGs stop him, try to figure out why he was so worried, and it ends with Kyoko introducing Shayin to the human beverage know as "tea".

I have a couple of questions regarding Estil technology: do magical nanites exist and how common and cheap is artificial gravity ? Can artificial gravity allow you to reduce gravitational pull on an area or object (like if you wanted to stand on a Super-Earth)

Also, does the Estil fleet travel as one big group or are they broken up into smaller groups to attract less attention from void-dwellers and more efficiently gather resources ?
Can the Estil do star-lifting ?
Are there any large space-faring polities the Estil have met ?
Lady Starspite mentions other apprentices, was Zaiyu close to them ?
What are void anglerfish ?
Are there different types of void-dwellers and what are the types ? Planet-eaters have been mentioned.

Okay, not all of these questions are about Estil technology 😅.

Gain:
- Petrified Arm:
A close encounter with Mitl's sample of Crystalvine has left your right arm turned into solid crystal. At least you can still channel mana through it.
- Lab Space: Your lab has been set up! You can use all your fancy gear with impunity now.
- An Understanding of Your Teammates: You feel like you understand Rins, Mitl, and Shayin a little better now. This doesn't mean you like them any better.
- Goals: You have some idea of how you're going to carry out this mission and what you're going to prioritize. Go you!
This hasn't been added to Zaiyu's character sheet...

Kaoru is clearly the Titan's Beloved, reborn, and this is recognizable because he tends to wear similar jewelry and piercings. We just haven't watched the episodes that lampshade this yet.

That is a pretty good theory.
I want it to be true, because I don't want Kaoru to be the Titan.
He's too good to start going around licking people.

Also, I've decided to start an online petitions for a Tokyo Babylon anime, preferably made by MAPPA.
Who knows how to make an online petition and who wants to sign it ?
Remember this ?

Well, here's a link to my newly-made petition on this thread, which also doubles as a CLAMP discussion thread since the old one's been in the grave for a year at least.
If you're interested, please sign my petition.
If you're not, please also sign my petition, I don't have nearly enough voters.

So I've been wondering: the Estil are said to heavily use automation, and the Mana Eaters were basically said to be Seed AI. Does the Fleet have sentient AI or VI ? Are we going to get robot allies at one point ?

Does the Estil fleet send ambassadors to alien species and vice-versa ?

Do magic creatures exist on Earth ? Like yokai and dragons and demons, not just a few stray mana eaters (Miko Quest on SB has been really fun) ? We've seen non-sentient organisms capable of using mana with the edach…

What is mana, in fact ? Is it a particle or a wave ? How is it best harnessed ?

Is Suzune's older brother styled after Touya Kinomoto ? I just finished CCS.

I've heard of the anime/manga Shugo Chara while searching for classic Mahou stuff and it had several magical boys !
And, uh, some very underage fanservice. And the heroine is an elementary schooler dating a high schooler.
And it has lots of filler.

Also, have you seen the new X/1999 CPC covers ? They recently released the ones for Vol. 16.

Actually, we should build a bunch of drones and scatter them over the battlefield right before we make our entrance at each fight.
Then they act as a PA system and play appropriate music while we fight.
It is universally acknowledged that whoever's theme is playing must have the upper hand in battle; let's use that.
Also, I'm specifically talking about the manga here, the movie is just an exercise in arthouse violence and the anime butchered several important twists.
For the movie, I've never watched it but have seen it described as "who are these people and why are they killing each other".

As for the anime, well.
Whoever produced it must have thought themes were for losers and high school essays.
Which results in quite a few characters losing character depth, and the story coming off as a "good guys and bad guys fight" shonen.

Also, is it just me, or is the X anime a lot more heterosexual than the manga ?
Subaru only had more than a cameo in three episodes, and while those episodes had him in a fairly prominent role, one of them mostly consisted of him literally wandering around a shrine in circles, the other one has him rescuing Kamui, and the third one consisted of some quick buildup before he and Seishirou fought each other at Rainbow Bridge.
Then he went in a coma and I stopped watching the series.
I don't think they even mentioned the fact that Tooru and Saya were deeply in love with each other.
And they added a bunch of scenes of Yuuto and Kanoe in bed for no reason.
And Yuzuriha never randomly sprouted cat ears.
Sacrilege.

PS: Has anyone here read Nowhere Stars ? It's definitely a post-Madoka magical girl work; but it's more Princess Tutu than Magical Girl Site.
It also has freaky, very alien monsters.

Robo-Rose !
Or even better, an entire team of duplicates.
A good evil-opposites episode is always fun! But I'm not sure whether Zaiyu has the mana and other resources to make five good evil-opposites.

If we're not careful (and Shayin is also not careful), we'll turn Zaiyu into Megamind.

And this is a bad thing why ?
It'll give us a redemption arc, and reveal that we were really just 'misguided' all along, and only chumps (and Megamind) have those.
No, I suggest that if we do join the heroes, we do so as the Evil Teammate who questions why they don't go do the evil things they can get away with, but does the right thing anyway due to getting out-voted.

I really don't like "the villain was misguided", I like my villains to be flat-out evil, but I think that it would be boring if we joined the heroines directly.
Just imagine.
By night, Zaiyu Es Talis, fighter of Meguca, creator of wacky monsters, doer of wackily improbable plots ! By day, Yuu Seiki, weird new transfer student, easily flustered dork, and member of the Fanfic club.

Oh I'm all on board for that, I'm just pretty sure the majority has already decided that we will get to join the good side at some point, as long as they have any say in it..
