Shards of a Broken Sun [Megaten/Shugo Chara/Exalted]

Voting is open for the next 2 days, 14 hours
Looks okay... though once again, gotta keep expressing my doubts over how effective one session of talking can actually be at getting her into accepting her Shadow.

Never worked in Persona 4, there was always a boss fight involved afterwards.

Not unlikely the next update will be "talking made some progress but didn't completely succeed, please write-in fight strategy now" after all
Considering @Quine would like to get the arc over with -- a state of mind I somewhat share -- I would like to note that you can also add "Let Naoto take the lead in case of a fight" to the vote if you want, and it would basically just work. The outcome of the fight, if there is one, isn't really in question; it's three on one, and one of the three is a max-level persona character who knows quite well how to handle herself.

I will note that talking has never worked in the past. At least, talking on its own does not. Your vote affects the outcome after the inevitable fight, but with a vote like this you're not going to avoid the fight itself, and... honestly, I don't think you'd want to do what it'd take to change that.

= =

Regardless of the outcom, after this vote there should be… one or two updates left in the arc, at which point I will need to write that XP analysis program finally.

It isn't the end of Kana's story, but she'll be relegated to the backburner, and the clock will be moving faster for a while. Well done, by the way--this is almost precisely the complete opposite of the outcome I expected for Kana, though perhaps not the rest of them so much. With that in mind...

I will be giving you some options for what to focus on next, but you can also offer suggestions. Bearing in mind that anything not focused on can still happen -- being described with a few paragraphs instead of an entire arc -- you might want to spend some time thinking about what sort of things you'd like to be on the list in the first place. Write-ins don't really work there, so it's best to make sure I know what I should be looking for while writing the list.

It's going to be interleaved with 'downtime', whatever it is. I don't currently have anything on the events list that would take more than 2-3 updates to either resolve or put on hold -- which should probably be read as 4-6 -- so Amu will not be doing the whole thing at once. But, regardless. Here's a couple openers, ranked by "Complexity" (how much thought would be required), "Severity" (how likely a poor outcome is if the listed actor does nothing—not if it isn't voted for), and "Impact" (how significant the event may be to the plot. Keep in mind that not focusing on it doesn't mean it doesn't happen, necessarily.)

= = =

Expected timespan: Two months.

- Nagihiko is up to something, and Amu would like to know what. Or maybe just to visit him and relax.
(Complexity: High. Severity: Low. Impact: Low. Actor: Amu.)

- Saaya woke up!
(Complexity: Medium. Severity: Negligible. Impact: High. Actor: Amu.)

- Kana is <REDACTED BY ORDER OF THE TEMPORAL AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT>
(Complexity: Medium. Severity: Unknown. Impact: Medium. Actor: Amu or Kana.)

- Yui, who <REDACTED>
(Complexity: High. Severity: Unknown. Impact: Unknown.)

- The Scavengers. <REDACTED>
(Complexity: High. Severity: Unknown. Impact: Unknown.)

- Utau wants to take you stargazing.
(Complexity: Low. Severity: Negligible. Impact: Extreme. Actor: Amu, Utau, Kana or Tsumugu.)

- Shirogane asked for an interview.
(Complexity: Medium. Severity: None. Impact: Medium. Actor: Amu and/or Utau.)

- Io wants to take you stargazing.
(Complexity: Medium. Severity: Negligible. Impact: Extreme. Actor: Hibiki.)

- Miki is having trouble with, ugh, biology.
(Complexity: Low. Severity: None. Impact: Low. Actor: Amu and/or Su and/or Ran.)

- It's time to sit down and seriously talk with Lulu Amu.
(Complexity: Medium. Severity: Low. Impact: High. Actor: Lulu or Amu.)

- Midori wants Amu to go to JPs for a check-up. And Kana too while she's at it, though this would need Amu to convince her.
(Complexity: High. Severity: Low. Impact: High. Actor: Amu, Kana or Midori.)

- School is back on, and school is trivially easy somehow, but Makoto intends to make it complicated. The local student council knows nothing, so she wants to make her own.
(Complexity: High. Severity: Medium. Impact: High. Actor: Amu.)

- Ami woke up with grafitti all over her face, then spent the day talking to herself and squinting at the mirror. She seems amused more than anything. Amu would protest, but Ran did the same thing at least once.
(Complexity: Medium. Severity: Low. Impact: Low. Actor: Amu, Tsumugu and/or Midori.)

- Amu sort of misses her chats with Tsukasa, thinks he probably has advice, and also Midori found a message from him on her phone just as Amu was thinking that.
(Complexity: High. Severity: Low. Impact: Medium. Actor: Amu and Midori.)

- Ami's friend Micchan got herself in a spot of trouble, and... just what is Ami's friend group like? Come to think of it, you never had that ethics talk.
(Complexity: Medium. Severity: Low. Impact: Low. Actor: Amu, Utau and/or Midori.)

- Amu sometimes used to play computer games with Tadase, and that feels like a good break. She can make sure he's okay while she's at it.
- <Tadase> Amu, you got that one backwards.
(Complexity: Low. Severity: Negligible. Impact: Low. Actor: Amu, Utau and/or Tadase.)

- Maybe soccer would do the trick? Kukai is a friendly face.
(Complexity: Low. Severity: Negligible. Impact: Negligible. Actor: Amu, Utau and/or Kukai.)

- What the heck is going on in Japan, Hotsuin?
- Inquiring Lulus would like to know.
(Complexity: High. Severity: Medium. Impact: Medium. Actor: Lulu.)

This is not a vote. This is a request that you spend a little time thinking of what I may have forgotten--or 'forgotten'--to put on that list, so that when you get it for real it looks better. Again though, pick what you're interested in; please don't automatically go for high impact or severity.

@quantum lurker - Might wanna add that onto the end of the vote since, well, we've just been told there's going to be a fight (and I think the implication is that you would need UMI to avoid the fight, which I doubt anybody wants to go for).

Have added the subvote as suggested.

For what's it's worth, we've gotten some actionable stuff from all the thought we put in this Arc, it's just not very obvious.

Amu sort of misses her chats with Tsukasa, thinks he probably has advice, and also Midori found a message from him on her phone just as Amu was thinking that.
For example, knowing Manticore's public Mission Statement allows us to discretely poke through JPs/Lulu to try and figure out who they are if we are careful, and we can ask Tsukasa about further Manticore details if he did nothing and allowed their Mission Statement to justify itself?

We now have a way to ask questions about Manticore based on limited IC knowledge after all, that's not nothing if we want to stay out of their reach or deal with them eventually

Severity is "How badly things might go if <actor> ignores the situation". Which is not the same thing as "how badly things will go if you don't vote for it", but gives you an idea of what sort of arc it'd be without spoiling anything. You could also describe it as "level of drama", although this isn't quite right.

Impact is "how relevant this will be to the future of the quest".

The current arc would be "Severity: high, impact: medium, complexity: high".

.......Don't tell me these are the Exaltation events?

This is the only one with a Severity above "Low" and it is High Impact as well.

Pretty much a shoe-in, I guess, especially since we were already expecting a discussion with Makoto before.

"Meeting Ami's friends" and "doing something relevant to Yui" might go on that list.

"I have to poop now. I didn't know how good I had it before. Periods are going to suck."

Yeah, I too notice nothing to do with Micchan is on that list, despite her being suspiciously missing in Ami's interlude and having had dice rolled for her a while back.

I presume that is completely intentional?

Along with anything to do with all the OTHER Scavengers?

Nah, I just forgot her. Might have remembered later; might not. She'll go on the list.

Other scavengers: Yes, that's redacted by order of Dr. Who.

Tadase: Adding. Lulu/Hotsuin: Didn't realise you wanted to see more of that, so adding. See, this is why I'm asking. :p

OwO, what's this? A suspiciously date-like event with Utau?
Given the parallel option of Io and Hibiki going stargazing at the same time, I'd assume the two parties will be meeting during that event.

The impact being listed "Extreme" makes me wonder. With Hibiki having been mentioned as a potential Ragged Crossroads assistant.... could Hibiki already be an Exalt, specifically the Sidereal?

Sidereals are fated. When they were born, they were foretold to have their name sung across the world. That fate—that change—is what is traded away, as the Maidens swap one fate for another. As a result, they will never be known.
...I said that, but the last sentence is largely due to the broken mask. Which is a Creation issue that may not apply here.

Also it can't be a date, Amu's father is there. And Kana.

Speaking of XP, how much arc XP are we getting for this? (And for how many characters?)
I haven't done the calculation yet, but considering the size of it it's going to be a lot like arc 1.

Everyone except Naoto is getting their share, this time; that includes Ami, although since she wasn't in most of it it'll be on the order of 1 XP for her. Hm. Right, I can't promise I'll have the software done by tonight, because I want the python program to be readable enough for someone who isn't a professional programmer, but it'll exist before I start writing this update.

(Naoto is an NPC. She will never become a party member, so I don't intend to track her this carefully. Midori is not an NPC, but she is what might be describe as a 'heroic mortal' in Exalted terms... which is not a terribly good place to be.)

If we get at least 7, we'll have 9 XP total combining the 2 unspent points we currently have - which is enough to buy Socialize 1 for Amu, Miki and Ami, Telekinesis 4 for Amu (to trigger the level 4 event) and Integrity 2 for Ami. I got a training vote already written up for it, actually.
You will not be getting my vote for this before Saaya wakes up: Her input is very important for more balanced viewpoints?
I kinda wonder what Makoto thinks of Saaya following the school incident and whether she blames her for causing the rift.

3 unspent points - Baughn gave out 1 XP when you got the shadow thing right.

Assuming those unspent points are in the global XP pool, might end up needing to use those for Miki and Ami.

Ami only gets 1 from this, I'm not sure how much Miki gets for becoming Big Miki.

Meanwhile, Utau probably ended up with a hefty share of it given all her psionics usage.

I don't think Amu has actually sat down and had that ethics talk with Ami yet.
Maybe combine this issue with meeting Ami's friends?
