If it's any consolation, on at least two occasions I've went and kicked myself for going there as well.
That the current subject matter is being dealt with as Halloween draws near doesn't help my nerves, and the fact that 99% of my quest writing is after dark makes it worse.

What, I ask you, is the point of beating the main villain if you can't look good doing it?
None of those things get you eaten by a grue, though. Except possibly the second one, if the voices are telling you to go into grue-infested areas without a light.
There is a chance, however small, to punch the grue back and making it learn its lesson. Also, if said power making you extra susceptible to grue, then said power wasn't worth anything to begin with.
To unlearn unacceptable predatory behaviour, especially with voice happily told you those unlearning 'isn't worth it and compromise your strength'
