Now here is hoping we roll high enough on spreading word on having a safe hold to get several hundred more dwarfs. More Dwarf power would be excellent.

I am not entirely sure if the dice are trying to kill you by their roll placement, or if they love you because I conflicted on one hand you got ridiculously good rolls in certain places and extremely bad ones in others each having their benefits and con's but this ain't right. (Really who is bribing Ranald and pissing him off because I need it to stop I like interesting but this is gonna drive me insane!)

(Not really but still this is just strange to see)

Now if you will excuse me I have an Interlude to write.

Ah, your quest has inherited Torroar's drama dice. It shatters QM plans, gives questors heart palpitations and makes for exciting reading.

As long as our Dawi have not died or been dragged into another war we will be fine. But I am assuming something collapsed or we have made an enemy for life.

My money is on something going horribly wrong with the engineers hall expansion. That thing is cursed! Cursed I tell you!

Interlude: Remnants of the First Age Part 1

Kandor glowered as he entered the dive chamber before looking at Thorgrimsson, "Ya sure the damned area is clear?" he slammed his diving helmet on as his fellow long beard crossed his arms within the cramped confines of the sub.

Thorgrimsson scowling as he moved to check him over, "That ain't my damned fault," He grumbled as he finalised his checks and before Kandor could say anything else the hatch was sealed, the chamber already filling with water.

Letting out a huff Kandor focused on preparing for the dive his stomach already constricting as water slowly started to surround him, taking a deep breath he watched the water enclose him as he felt it pass his chest making him release a breath, glancing around he made to it was full before he pulled the lever plunging him into the darkness, only rays of light shining from the ship.

Glancing around he slowly sank as he surveyed the area, the grand architecture of the hall slowly looking to have changed as fewer statues and pillars were placed as stairways headed off in one direction and was about to signal an all-clear when he stopped and spotted something, frowning he managed to guide himself towards the side and found a partially collapsed hall, it was small but large enough for the sub to fit through.

He managed to grab the edge of a collapsed pillar as he looked over it only for his glove to wipe away some muck revealing a glowing rune, his eyebrows shot up in surprise the year already having been slow going but it seemed things were looking up for him.

Pushing away from the pillar he tugged on his cable as he let off a special flare while giving the signal to pull him up, he felt a jolt as he was pulled in quickly as he expelled all his air leaving the flare behind, though he cantered himself quickly and managed to seal the chamber and vent it in but far too slow, he made note to practice that as it would not do to be so slow especially as Khorvale was only alive thanks to his skill at it.

The Water vented and cleared before he pulled his helmet off and banged against the side of the hall, "Oi, Thorgrimsson get Snorri moving towards the damn flare looks like they're something important." The Door opened to reveal Nis as she gave him a nod.

The rings under her eyes and oil splattered across her cheek making her seem older than she really was, "Already on it Master, though will be a bit their busy retracting some of the outer lights to get through all the rubble" She said while helping him out of the suit and then disappearing into the rear of the ship to check it over.

He let out a huff and went to the front of the ship while glancing over everything only to reach the front as it passed through the hall as the hull groaned at the picture making him close his eyes while saying a prayer that nothing would happen, especially as this looked to be far riskier than he would have liked.

***

A loud screech echoed through the hull as it scraped against the side of the tunnel as Kandor winced, "Snorri ya bloody son of a grobi I said down not up!" Thorgrimsson roared as Kandor ducked to avoid a bolt shooting out as it buried into a chair and quickly sealed the issue as he went about ensuring there were no leaks, glancing through the window he saw an opening "Stop! We got a pocket, let's see if theirs any damage" Kandor grumbled as he the sub was carefully manoeuvred into the opening.

The crew let out a sigh of relief as you broke the surface, Kandor was quick to check the outer area to find it looking clear before he popped the hatch and poked his head out as sulphur was added to the lights illuminating the area, glancing around he stopped as he spotted nothing but a excellently crafted floor. Taking a gulp he carefully climbed out the sub and landed on the ground an axe in hand and a lantern in the other he stretched before turning to the sub and grimacing as he noted the external plating was tourn but it was salvageable, "Thorgrimsson! Looks like we're gonna have to pull out the spare plate, though that can wait you gotta see this."

His fellow longbeard appeared a moment later looking annoyed, dragging his feet over the dusty yet perfectly hewn stone floor. Intricate runework and artistry covering inch. It was only as the elders finally met and stared out into the great gloom that they noticed the abyss. "Ancestors." Thorgrimsson sighed. "I thought first we'd hit some dead volcano or something. But this...." He stopped to stare at the vaultless gloom. "We'll have to wait till we have the ships new lights pointed up, but I damn reckon this place could swallow Zhuffbar whole. I can't even find a pillar yet..." Kandor, patted him on the shoulder. "Ya think Gotri will allow us to set something up here, might not find anything but I don't think anything in the Karaz Ankor could rival this..." His voice soft as he stood next to him. Thorgim glared, before nodding. "If you'll back me up with your friends in the elders council I'll petition him at the next clan meeting."

Kandor let out a hum and gave a nod as he heard Nis gasp not that he could blame her, "Thorgrimsson I rate we have a look around, make sure it's safe while…"

Kandor and Thorgrimsson suddenly twisted to the back of the hall as something crashed against the stone floor, Kandor squinted "I gonna check that out, Thorgrimsson your with me while the others fix the damn ship," He said getting a nod from his longbeard before turning to Nis, "If either of us hollers well, make sure to get out of here this ain't no place for a fight and I would rather not face those damned things with us been so few."

Thorgrimsson gave a nod as he let out a grunt as he banged against the side of the hull to get the crew moving quickly before he jumped out an axe in hand as he glanced around warily.

Kandor gave him a nod before pushing into the darkness his lantern giving him adequate light as he searched for something as he slowly went into the hall, which as he looked around was surprisingly intact though it seemed to have been overrun with mushrooms which caused his heart to clench, the sight of such a glorious hall brought so low as it was left to the ravages of nature.

He and Thorgrimsson spent what felt like an eternity as they searched the hall coming across a massive pillar that had to be thicker than the main entryway of Karaz-a-Karak, Kandor sent a prayer to the Ancestors before returning to the search though it seemed for nothing and was about to dismiss the crash from earlier when he spotted something glowing from the side, he easily snuck up on it, careful to not disrupt anything as he looked for anything only to find it empty before he poked his head in the door.

He stopped dead in his tracks as he spotted what lay within the hall, his eyes wide as he let his guard down a bit and entered his eyes glued to the runes within a work of art he had yet to ever see and was no doubt lost when the hold was flooded and wondered if any of the dawi within survived to remember it, though as he came to his senses he glanced around to check the hall and found nothing. "Thorgrimsson! Found something ya have to see, I swear by all 4 feet of my beard after we get back to the hold Gotri will have too..."

Something slammed into the back of his head as he stumbled forward as the blow and runes blurred his vision and before he collapsed and darkness crept in; his eyes wept as the halls suddenly came to life with rivers of runelight filling the abyss.

You will find out what happens next but it gonna be interesting, enjoy guys.

So I'm not super knowledgeable about LotR lore, what are the chances we've run into dwarf ghosts angry at us defiling their hall or something?

The chances of dwarf ghosts are low, but never zero.
In all seriousness, no I belive they are local dwarf that got stuck in there when the hold got flodded.

The anticipation is killing me, I just hope we have not been completely cripples by the bad rolls. I honestly just want just a few years of calm and steady progress. As exciting as this all is its almost getting to the point of cartoon parody how many random misfortunes occur.

Interlude: Remnants of the First Age Part 2
Interlude: Remnants of the First Age Part 2

Kandor's eyes shot open as he groaned a hoard of grobi pounding within his head as his vision slowly cleared, he sat up to find his hands bound by a strange string a gave it a tug only for it to expand and strain before he stopped, letting out a sigh of relief he let it be for now especially as it would take but a moment to break them from the look of things.

Glancing around he winced as he got a face full of rune light from the nearby wall, shielding his eyes he turned the other direction and was greeted by two beings dressed in strange armour their face covered by stone masks a rune light atop them.

Glaring at them, "Where's Thorgrimsson!" He bellowed making the two things jump as he spotted the hint of a beard as one of them pulled their mask off to reveal dawi, their eyes a strange pale silver colour, they spoke to him in the tongue of the local dwarfs making him groan as he only picked up hints of it. He cursed himself for not learning it sooner as they seemed to look disappointed, before shrugging, one of them pulled a knife out making him tense as the beardling slowly approached him slowly before gesturing to his bonds, he blinked before frowning and raised his hands allowing them to cut his bonds.

They signalled for him to follow them which he did though reluctantly and was lead out the building to be greeted by a small rune-lit hall filled with dawi as they went about their day glancing at him with those strange stonemasks, before going about their day though he noted more than a few of them carrying runic blades.

He took a deep breath and continued on his path the hall slowly expanding to reveal a large farm of mushrooms been picked by more dawi, while the smell of a mushroom soup seemed to slowly grow stronger until he was lead to through the hall, massive mirrors actually shining some light onto a patch of soil that seemed to be growing a few crops, though a great many more seemed to have dulled from ages past, so much so that it seemed sections had been abandoned. Though as he was lead to a staircase which slowly ascended to an upper level he could not help but note jewels shining in the darkness like the night sky shaped into a face of a tall being that seemed to shift and shine down onto some kind of clock along the side of the hall the few runes he understood been about it been related to something Lunar.

He jolted in surprise from a pat on the back as he glanced to see one of his guards nod and indicate a row of homes at the new level and was pointed to a far off house and gestured for him to go in, frowning he nodded and entered only to stop when he saw Thorgrimsson and the rest of the crew chatting happily as they ate some kind of mushroom and what looked like lizard meat while a runefire sat in the centre of the house, "What's this?" Nis jumped a little while his fellow elders glanced at him.

Thorgrimsson grinned while shrugging, "What's it look like, were celebrating, of course, managed to get this lot to prepare to leave this place, especially as they are rather keen to leave this place." A grunt came from the side drawing Kalor's attention to an elder who had an eyebrow raised, "Ah yes chief Ukhear is rather apologetic about the incident within their hall, then again they are rather wary of outsiders, which is a little understandable when you learn that many of them have never seen anything outside of their rune-light or this hall." He said before downing an entire bowl of mushroom soup.

"So you're saying that me nearly having me head caved in was all from an understanding, why that makes the hammer in my head feel oh so great?" he crossed his arms as he turned to stare at them and they back at him an apologetic look on his face. He was about to press the issue when he felt a hand settle on his shoulder, glancing to his back he came face to face with another elder a set of rune armour and weapon been carried in as he stilled.

He ran his hand over the steel armour the slight indent of the runes bringing a small smile to his face as he looked it over, only for Thorgrimson to chuckle at his back, "I had the same reaction, ain't seen a full set in a while and your definitely blessed by Valaya they say it's yours." He grouched though it seemed rather subdued" He glanced in shock at his fellow longbeard.

He cleared his ear out as he glanced between the armour and him, "I can't take this, a bit of gold or something else but a full set of rune armour… I'm not a skrat, I wouldn't demand this over a misunderstanding" his voice raised a little as he lost his composure glancing wildly as he glanced at the runes wantingly but restrained himself and was about to continue when Thorgrimsson put a hand on his shoulder.

His fellow elder giving him a small nod, "Aye but I've already spoken with them and it's all they have and it seems like nearly nothing to them, seems they've had little use for it except for when a few of those things crawl out the water but when the place flooded this lot survived and managed to secure a lot of their ancestors work, so that, is a mere pittance to what they truly hold, though apparently a lot more of it was lost in the deeps," Kandor's faced pulled at that as he bowed his head at the loss while Thorgrimsson continued, "Aye and while they don't know where it was lost they managed to save enough that it would even make even old Kragg salivate, you should see it that armoury you found was apparently only a small section of what they truly held, especially as they hold many tome's that will make Neth prostrate himself if he can even get a few of them into that archive he's wanting to build.

Gulping Kandor nodded as he bowed deeply to the elder in thanks and tried to convey the truly massive gift he was receiving for nearly nothing, the headache seeming rather small to him right now, "So, their coming back with us how many is that because that's gonna be a lot of trips in the nautilus to get their and back?"

Then he stopped as he realised something, "Wait, those set's we found does that mean…" Thorgrimmson nodded as he took a seat.

The longbeard looking a little saddened, "aye they belong to them though we kept those that are not theirs something they cleared up, also gave us a few more and fixed the others up, a gift I'm told.

Kandor nodded and let the subject drop and then turned his attention back to the trip back as he spotted snorri wince as he rubbed the back of his head as his stomach dropped when he heard the number of dawi they would be transporting back to the hold through the dangerous tunnel, especially as it was gonna strain the poor ship to the limit.

81 Sets of Full Runic Armour

81 sets of Axe and shield Runic Weapons

320 Golden Age Broadbeams join the hold (They are Runesmiths and Growers)

15 Units of Food

30 Units of Ale

Extra Research options unlocked from the Runic archive.

Rolled 100 on your search with the sub

Then landed on the runehall out of the 5 options followed by a living hall because you critted and followed by a roll of 93 on the surviving dwarfs within, so your getting a lot from this and well your dice do kind of love you. Also it's so large because the hold itself is around 40 000 odd years old (The year of the trees really makes things stretch.)

Now, this bit is done will do the actual turn, because that is not as bad and that is followed by the Rivendell Arc and just because your dice are Tsundere that is gonna be fun. (Really how do you get 2 Nat 1's in a row it is mind-boggling so your family is pissed with ya and the trip to Rivendell itself is rough because I doing the Arc their and it starts off with the worst possible roll, not sure how I should feel about this but YAY)
