The War's to Come- The Blooding of Kharack Lhune Part 2
The War's to Come- The Blooding of Kharack Lhune Part Finale

Hokul shifted slightly under the silvery light of the moon peeking through the gaps of the canopy the distant charge of the drakes drawing closer, his eyes just visible through the gap in his pillbox that had been dug into the earth. His Crossbow at the ready even if it would hardly harm one of the drakes it would do far better than giving his position away.

Glancing to the side he could just make out the forms of the umgi ranger's shifting in their positions, they'd prove useful in stalling and bringing low the grobi but their bow's would be of little help in the coming fight. He tensed as a shadow passed over him. Glancing up he saw eight drakes ascend the mountain.

The Thumping of other drakes and grobi running growing closer brought him out of his lapse, letting out a sigh he rested his crossbow on his leg and prepared his gun while hoping that he'd trained the younger rangers well. The frosty wind his only companion as he sized up the lead drake. They were the older ones from what he could see their riders scanning their surroundings a few keeping a wary eye on the mountain above.

Silently raising the gun he aimed it through the small gap and sent one last prayer to the Ancestors for protection before pulling the trigger. The bright red flare flying high in the sky as the sound of twangs and screeches filled the air.

The Grobi and drake's reeling under the light failed to see the danger, the lead drake dropping dead an umgi arrow sticking through its eye while its rider was riddled with arrows. The grobi surrounding it cut down before they could even bring their shields to bear.

Hokul watched as the drakes seemed to roar in defiance as arrows and bolts bounced off their armour while he reloaded his weapon he'd barely had time to aim it before the whistling sound followed by the earth quaking under the strike of a grudge thrower stone crushing grobi.

The strike broke their back as they seemed to scatter out commanders bellowing to somewhat control them. Though as Hokul took aim at a grobi commander within the dying light of the flare he gulped at seeing the drakes start charging if disorganised towards their surroundings.

The Flames engulfed the night as the drakes threw out a firestorm that made Hokul blanch at the sheer amount of it, only a few of the umgi managing to get a few hit's through the blaze. Gritting his teeth he pulled out his other flare gun out and sent a green flare into the sky. "Withdraw!" he bellowed.

As he turned back to the drakes he watched as some of the larger ones under the command of a grobi belched fire upon a group of rangers their screams making his blood boil. Grinding his teeth he watched as some brave but follish umgi charged into a gap half his fellow following him their blades held high as they roared out in defiance charging into the horde and drawing the ire of the beasts.

Closing his eyes he withdrew, there was little he could do to help them without dying but he'd avenge them. As he retreated into a tunnel the sound of a dawi bomb exploding could be heard blowing up above them. A fireball halfway up the mountain illuminated the drakes as they fell beside the clan's newly built Gyrocopters to the earth.

***

Burlok gripped the flight stick tightly with his gloved hands as he sweated profusely a scowl on his face as he hovered above the cliffs, the howling of frosted air stinging his exposed skin as a thin layer of frost covered his beard. The Gyrocopters boiler did little to fight the chill as he and the few master engineers with experience flying the machines stayed at the ready. His eyes set on the climbing forms of the drakes.

Tightening his grip he wondered which Ancestor god he'd offended to get involved in this mess, he'd given up fighting in the Throng for a reason but it was just his luck that he was one of the few to have served in Zhuffbar's Airforce and was experienced enough for combat but that did little to calm his nerves with the approaching flight of drakes.

Worse, his machine had yet to go through all the proper procedures to be declared safe. Taking a deep breath, he focused on his breathing knowing he could hopefully gripe later or so he told himself. Thankfully they had the altitude which was his only solace in this crazy plan that Durin had concocted.

He blew his horn giving the signal for his wing and he gulped while pushing his Gyrocopter into a dive. The wind whistled past as an Icey layer slowly encroached over his goggles but he stayed on target his eyes locked on the second-largest drake being followed closely by its kin. The Engine barking as the flaps rattled his speedometer slowly starting to spin far faster than what any dawi would consider sane.

Still, he remained on target despite the ice forming over the frame of his aircraft and as he approached the drakes he grinned and pulled the trigger. The bark and jolt of his Mini-cannon fired rapidly to empty its magazine. Pulling a second trigger he felt the bomb hook extend outwards before the clink of the bomb detaching could be faintly heard.

The drakes barely even had a moment to process they were under attack as his rounds pierced one of the smaller one's wings. His gyrocopter shot past them in the blink of an eye as he jerked his control stick back hard. The metal groaned as he pulled up the ground fast approaching his muscles screaming for release as he shook within his seat his vision slowly turning black.

He felt his Gyrocopter evening out just as he skimmed the top of some trees before climbing. Letting out a breath he'd not known he was holding he glanced back up at the mountain, the drakes that had been climbing were falling limply from the sky their wings torn asunder from the bombs only two of the younger drakes seemingly only able to glide having likely been shielded from their larger brethren. Looking around he spotted his fellow pilots and grinned, he sounded his horn he called for them to land at the hold, he'd not be risking his fellow master engineers after such strain on the gyrocopters, and it never went well when you faced a drake without surprise and he didn't fancy his chances against the much larger one especially when he heard his engine give out a startling belch as the airframe groaned at the smallest of turns.

Watching as the grobi seemed to finally break apart the grudge throwers and gyrocopters having finally broken their back as one of the stones flattened a larger drake, many of them running for the cave they'd come from but that did little to ease the feeling in your gut as you watched their commander try and gain some form of control and fail.

The horde all but dispersing and likely to no longer be a threat all the while the drakes seemed to travel even further north of the mountain going their own separate way, the orc commander ridding the largest one to places unknown. "Send word to Hokul, I want the drakes followed by a squad and let the hold know we've won."

Closing the far eye you thanked the Ancestor gods, it's seemed that they were on your side though it was far from bloodless you knew it could have been far worse had you not pushed to fortify the hold nearly as much as you had.

6 Winged Drakes 2 badly injured

Just going to say that I was expecting you guys to win since this was about the best outcome you could have hoped for in terms of numbers. The Rangers tipped the scale since at worst I was considering around 3 times the number of orcs to face you still you got some pretty good roles and the dragons meant to deal with your artillery failed their rolls so badly in the opening sequence of this update that you essentially crushed their moral. (I was hoping to write a dog fight but instead got to do a dive bomber run so no real loss) Still, I hope you all enjoyed and I guess next up is the next turn and then well things are about to get fun.

Damn! Those rolls for a second round of rangers were brutal! Like seriously, those rolls were weak and only Dunedain rangers did something. At least Orcs and Drakes got the rough end of a stick too.

Oh no Gorshack and morhvar escaped great that's not good and there heading north or the misty mountains and the rest of flyers are running to the mountains and likely gonna meet up North to angmar. Damn that's not good either the witch king or azog is gonna get boldog with a sizable dragon and some drakes and right at the start of the age of stone.

The implications are bad since the orc tribes of mordor have been unleashed to middle earth.

The Orcs in Middle-Earth were descendants of Elves who got captured, tortured and mutated by Morgoth as his armies after all.

That means Dawi get a guilt-free targets to take down.
I think it would remind many of Dawi Zhar and Drukahri...and how they got corrupted by the actions of one being. It would be less vengeance (but it would be too) and more like mercy.

Yeah right but I mentioned that cause of special tribes in the shadow of war games like the innovative machine tribe and deadly warmonger tribe being now a threat in the age of stone and likely making new grudges with their special Characters through the nemesis system.
Something unique to the dawi but similar enough.

Also I wish they didn't break cause now we have to deal with them later especially now their likely gonna be in either the witch king or azogs army they can do even more damage.

Edit: their goes the most pressing threat in the tunnels barring the regmyl and the more numerous orc tribes.

The drakes are gonna a long running threat since they escaped.

So any chance that this orc faction is gonna be attack by other orc factions since they have become so weak with loses?

I think with gorshack leaving with morvar to parts unknown likely to angmar or the misty mountains and the drakes booking it out of the tunnels to the north and how many losses the Cult sustained I think they are affectively destroyed now.

Also with how many grobi we I believe we finished most of our grudges in the dammaz kron for orcs which i think is great since we are getting a bonus again.

Lackluster rolls. But on the brightside. No critfails. Ill take no critfails over "meh" rolls any day. Could have gone so much worse. At least we eaked out a victory. Almost 300 allied losses vs 30k plus 50 drakes? Not too shabby. Just have to beef up our dice for the next engagement. Plus we get to use real time combat data to improve the defenses for next time as well.

Ahh i love it when a plan brings results time to Repair our defences forts and improve them

Of course with no dire need seeing the drake cult was the only tribe that knew of us we can tackle the food and drink more with bit of fortify

why all the whoo and gloom? kill a good number of dragons killed a fuck ton of orcs and had fairly light loses.

i`ll take this a a good win honestly.
might have too send some ppl out to mess with them just for honor sake but we did a very good thing here.

And all the fun reagents that the azanul can make potions with all this dragon corpses who knows what new runed weapons and armor or anything else.

Also this battle us still an undeniable success with basically ending a big threat below us and getting low casualties on it and ending a couple grudges in the process so it's good.

But the gloom is the fact all the most dangerous threats have survived and worse they've escaped to middle earth proper in a time when war is brewing between forces of the dark lord and good with the bad guys being led by extremely capable commanders in azog, bolg, and the witch king.

which when gorhshack an extremely powerful and capable orc special Character and his companion morhvar a dragon of great size in this age have now been freed from tunnels to join on the war of orcs and dwarves and likely will become quite a important figure here now since he'll want to rebuild and get a new army so he's gonna join either azog or the witch king.

Also the surviving drakes who are moving in a crash course for angmar further strengthening it.

Before the drakes reach angmar in there migatory fled they are going to leave quite a lot of burn disater on there way in the country side with bree a possible victim

If they go to the misty mountains then they go near the shire

Turn 19 Ranger Report
Turn 19 Ranger Report

Gulping down on some drognle stew the meat nice and tender and far richer than you could have hoped and had some interesting effects but as you waved off the server, your eyes drifting to your council. "It would seem, that things are far from over with the grobi. I received word from Gundabad that I and all the dwarf kings have been called for a council." Your council straitening at attention.

Putting down your utensils you brought your hands together while savoring the taste. "Bring me the map" you ordered one of the guards before turning to Mordrin. "I'll have need of you and a pair of Rekokeners to accompany me for such talks." Turning to the other's your eyes darting to each of your advisors. "I'll likely be gone for many month's or maybe a year or two depending on how long the lords dally so if you have anything to bring forward I suggest you prepare a list for me look over and make decrees on what can be done."

A map was laid out atop the table allowing you to stand and pace. "The hold is as of this moment relatively secured outside of the grobi in the depths but while they are numerous they lack the war beasts to threaten the hold for now but our clan's domain is far from secure." Turning to the table you grabbed a few tokens that you'd kept for this and placed them at each of your clan's mines and holds the distance a little daunting in some regards. "Military the Throng is more than ready with our allies to keep the trade routes secure but we all know that we are too few to truly deal cover everything, especially with the dark tidings that seem to be about the dwarven race again." You said while looking at the map considering how to fortify it and make it far more prosperous.

A cough caught your attention dragging your eyes up to Alrik his copper beard slowly growing grey at the tips as he stared at you. "Indeed though I feel I should mention that the hold is progressing well in regards to new halls and the construction of our engineering needs I fear that our food supplies are being stretched thin and only the continued trade with the Grombolgi (Halflings) sees the holds stores full. Should we fall under siege it will be hard on the hold to maintain our needs irrespective of all our defences."

You let out a hum at that as a few of your advisors nodded at the sore point of the hold or more a personal clans gripe but it was a true issue especially considering much of the food you grew was used in brewing. "Aye thankfully the construction of an underway or more growing halls will resolve the issue though it'll be years before either of those can be done in great number and we are secure for now but it is something to consider but to more pressing matters" You said tapping on the token closest to the sea. "Our navy may need expanding I've got requests from the elgi for expeditions and the umgi requesting aid from us. It would seem those Wazzocks over the ocean didn't learn from the last thrashing the clan gave them. We've had a few probing forces off the coast nothing that was a threat but I don't like them being so daring near one of our holdings without something to deter them. Burlok, I want you to discuss making a naval or aerial expansion plan with your engineers to secure our coast and holds." More issues were brought up and possible plans made, it would only be before you departed for the longbeards halls that any future plans were set in stone and your holds next set of expansion was underway.

Ranger's Following the Drakes: 35

The Drake's that fled managed to bypass the sentries my Thane the last sighting of them heading due north, it is a mystery as to where they could go but one of our allies is likely to have seen where they went with how many of the damned lizards there were.

Rumours of Gondor: 77

The Umgi kingdom of Gondor seems to have something of a growth spurt amongst their people, there have been a number of their towns and farms expanded in recent years that seem to have left them with ample bodies to protect their territories they oversee and have somewhat managed to secure some old city that has been held by grobi for many centuries.

Rumours of Dale: 5

The Umgi under the shadow of Smaug has been unusually quiet but there has been an uptick in the number of traders within their territory.

Rumours of Rohan: 86

It would seem the horse lords have been given a great boon in recent years with many travellers from their allied kingdom establishing themselves in a growing city outside our mine. However it has been noted that the lack of some umgi raiders has done much to ease the issues plaguing the kingdom and has seen some stabilising effects if word of their traders is to be believed.

Rumours of the Elgi of Rivendell: 49

The Elgi it seems are none too pleased with the amount of activity going about these days and many of their veterans have taken to donning their armour and weapons to help protect their lands. The Drakes have only made them more wary of the coming future with them making home within Angmar.

Rumours of the Elgi of Mirkwood: 96

It would seem the elgi of the woods have suffered greatly in recent years, their armies and lands having been pushed back by a renewed assault of giant spiders and grobi tribes living in those dark woods. It has even made them seemingly more isolationist of late with foul magic blanketing the forest that they reside in and even whispers of a great fortress being occupied their.

Rumours from other Elgi places: 22

It would seem the elgi city-state of Dorwinion has agreed to join the growing kingdom of Dale, though why is a mystery it can only mean good things if our distant allies have grown some sense to actually work together to drive back the threats that face us.

Reports on the area around and in the hold: 48

It would appear that the scattering of the grobi and drakes has roused many an ancient monster from their caves and warrens, the Rangers have spotted several large troll like beasts the local Khazad refer to as Graug prowling the land. While other beasts seem to have taken to prowling on some passerby's. It is only thanks to the holds rangers and that of the umgi patrols that our trade routes remain unbothered but there are no doubt more threats roaming about that may require a considerable effort to put down.

Reports from the Dunedain: 95

It would seem that the Grobi are none too pleased with some of the umgi's raids and some of the clans recent actions. They've taken to fortifying their territories and preparing them for assault, it would seem a smart warboss is in charge and knows something is coming. Sadly the wraiths that infest the lands seem to be aiding them and have made it near impossible to dislodge their gains with simple strikes. Should the umgi or we wish to push them out a throng will be needed to clear the grobi at least though the undead will sadly remain for now.

Reports on the Infested Tunnels: 39

With the destruction of one of the Major grobi tribes and the weakening of the other tribes bar one has left a power vacuum that is not easily filled many falling to the banner of the Wielders of grond. It would seem the grobi are attempting to consolidate their position but with so many different tribes it will be decades before they will likely march upon us and with our actions in recent years they will be alert and continued action against them may see a warboss unite them with a common cause.

As it stands it would seem they are more interested in fortifying the last of their nests and reading out the unloyal, it will be difficult to dislodge them till they forget about our actions.

Naval reports on Umbar: 34

The raider umgi have been spotted probing the outer edges of our coast, a few skirmishes happening with the garrison of Rosse lond's navy. Nothing of any threat to our lands but that they are probing can only mean they are planning to strike at something.

Dunedain and Elgi reports on the Misty Mountains: 59

It would seem an urk Warlord has consolidated much of his fellow warbands within the grey mountains, few if any left apposes this supposed urk who lays claim to a Khazad hold. He has even slain Thror for some perceived slight. A foolish notion considering he squats within the works of our people while seemingly making deals with the Evil lord Sauron according to some of the elgi rangers in the area.

Reports from the Kingdom of the Grey Mountains: 52+40(Canon Event)=92

Thror is dead it seems the fool escaped into the night after having his guard reduced after showing his senses returned sadly it seems to have been an act as within madness he took only a single trusted companion to seek out some journey for clarity.

He ran afoul of an urk warlord who decided to make an example of him before daring to lay claim to the hold that he sullies with his presence. As it stands Throin and his council have called for a meeting of all dwarven clans to gather. What will be discussed is anyone's guess but such an action can only mean something important is to come in the near future.

***

Yip poor Thror he couldn't escape his canon fate, sadly some things have changed so some stuff has changed and will affect the coming fight also after the turns vote then it's off to the misty mountains for some lovely politicking with the other dwarfs and mysterious eastern dwarfs also I finally hitting like one of my major goals for this quest. Fun times ahead I just gotta dust off some old plan and make some major updates.

Well sounds like we're going to get to be a part of the War of Dwarves and Orcs, hopefully we can influence it enough to reduce Dwarven casualties.

I'd also like to meet the other dwarves from the Hobbit, and the Eastern Dwarves.
