We rolled so badly?
I mean we had six omake and the siege work and we got to need our last?
I do not want to be mean, but mad0 also has to update our situation with the hobbit trade deal.
Well its more there's been at least 4-5 rounds of combat, and this is just part 1 of the battle.
Also why would we need to do that? that was sorted a while back. You chose the plan to trade with them, and have our dawi as the traders. Thats it. No rolls necessary.
I meant in the resurces report, and I am dumb so I said hobbit when it was the trade agrement with gondor.
For example we are credited to have stuff that we are actualy selling to gondor, no dice involved.

Omake: Spacing one´s shots
Muzil let out a satisfied belch after dumping some of the content of his trusty flask. Like any self respecting Dawi he of course kept always some emergency alcohol on his person and drinking it now was as good as a time as any. That way if he died in the coming battle it would be at least with a belli warm of good and proper ale. Had cost him quite some coin too, considering the dreadful alcohol shortages the hold had went through these last years.
He surpressed a shudder at the memory of sobriety. Aye, that had been dark days indeed.
But there was no sense at being unnecessarilly grim about that now.
"You got to wait with your shots." He advised the umgi before him with a grin. Durwood was his name and for his young age -appearently just 30!- he made for a decent archer as far as the quarreler was concerned. Of course any crossbow was inherently superior to a bow, but what could one do when there were none available?
For the last hour or two he and dozen other quarralers had shown the umgi how to properly shoot and space their shots when the enemies arrived. Small lessons such as to be carefull to fire in a Rhytm, don´t waste arrows at far away enemies, to let groups of 30-40 through to make sure the warriors on the front managed to do their part as well. Stuff that many of the umgi surely already knew, but it couldn´t hurt to make sure.
Sadly the mist was complicating matters significantly. It was so thick that one could basically only shoot blindly once one got past a couple axe lenghts.
Luckily like with most things in life, there was little that good old dawi ingenuity couldn´t fix.
It had been a relatively simple work to mark the different stretches of the harbour with laterns and torches as well as to assign a couple dawi and umgi the role to blow horns once, twice or thrice once the enemy reached that stretch. After that came the hard part, namely to train the umgi around here to fire their arrows at the right angle to hit just that very stretch of land, or to make sure that the correct horn signals could be made out over the sound of battle. As such a couple dawi, quarreller just like him, had come together and had yelled, grumbled and beaten their axes, shields - and in the case of one dawi- pots together to make as much noise and distraction as possible while umgi tried their best to follow certain signals and to rain fire properly on certain landing stretches. At the end they were only barely acceptable to a part but they didn´t have enough time to properly train them, so that would have to do.
Muzil handed out a couple of drinks of his own ale out to the umgi, just mouthfuls to warms their bellies in the cold and wet mist. Others might grumble it was a waste of good ale, to simply give them to umgi like that, especially given how some of their youngsters sputtered with it, but Muzil wasn´t so close minded. Doubtlessly a number of them would not life to see the next day and one shouldn´t die without at least some ale in ones stomach.

The Burning of Anfelas Part 3
How Early in the Morning is it: 40 (Dawn The Fog will remain Thick for the first four Umbar waves)
Umgi defences set up: 28+14 (Lord Halton's Stewardship skill)=42 (2 Additional Traps set up within the Harbor.) (effectiveness of Pitfall traps increased for the first wave by an additional -5 if they make land otherwise it wave 2 and a permanent -5 has been added to umbars charges until they are over the raised earth wall in the Harbour.
Engineer Warriors: 52 (A few Engineers brought along a few extra blasting charges and figured out how to rig them near the docks, four engineers also brought along five Grude-Raker's which are been used by the grumbling Guard) (additional -10 to the seconds waves landing when the charges go off)( Also Unique Ranged combat rolls for grumbling guard added to the battle)
"Lord Gotri! Lord Gotri!" "Five more minutes Kaz..." You grumbled in the uncomfortably wooden chair before a mailed fist smacked you in the face. "Wha! What!" You glared at Kaz and Uvor before you, before blinking as last nights plans hit you. "They're here?" You growl, glaring at your all too positive ranger friend, while the beardling passed you some strange 'Harad' brew called 'qahwa' or 'koughie'. "Aye Lord Gotri." The lad said. "an elven spotter found them in the fog half an hour ago. They've stopped using fog horns in an attempt to ambush us, so we'll still have another 15 minutes before they start landing." You snarled as the bitter drink rolled down your throat, but the sleep you were so desperately longing for quickly subsided, before glaring at the pair of them. "And why did you not wake me up earlier?"
The beardling looked bashful for a moment before you noticed another dawi, one of your guards lying flat out on the floor. "Ah..." Moving away from that you grabbed your hammer and crossbow, which had been nearly lain down beside your 'throne'. "Now remember lad, your holding the tower." Uvor frowned but nodded. "It's very important you do so." You added eying him carefully until he belatedly nodded again. "But..." You hear him hang onto every word now. "You will have the leisure to involve yourself in the battle over time. Just make sure you switch out with an exhausted Umgi formation before you do so. Never leave a fort undefended." He beamed. You grabbed his hammer which was lying against his own chair, passing it to him. "Now I want you to hold that fort-like your life depends on it. There's many an umgi garazi and Kvinn that'll be hiding in there, especially the barracks and dungeons." He nodded, albeit a tad confused. You sighed, patting him on the pauldrons. "Just treat it like you're defending your hold lad. I'll sound this." You eyed the shut heavy oak door before pulling out a 'unique' rangers horn and blowing it. The lad wincing. "That'll tell you if I'm pulling back your way. and twice if I want you to assist the lines. While holding a fort is vital, preventing a rout is even more so, especially with Umgi."
The lad accounted for, gathering his throng to defend the fort and act in the reserves, you left the building meeting your already waiting throng. Polished guns, deadly crossbows, and gleaming shields, glistened in the well-lit streets. "Alright, lads, best we get off to work." The throng dispersed to their destinations before you were left with your company. Turning to their commander, Elder Bjorn, you barked out your orders. "Get the Beardlings up to the harbour, I'll look out for any Umgi stragglers." You grumbled spotting some umgi still barely armoured rushing down the streets. The Longbeard nodded as you moved out of the barracks, the throng marching out. Sighing you grabbed an Umgi, still struggling to put on his chainmail just before he slid into a gutter. Helping him put it on properly, you were met with a fresh face, probably a lad near 17. "Name?" You growled. "E-e-e-eldacar master dwarf." He spluttered, teeth chattering in the cold. Nodding you patted him on the shoulder. "Stick with me lad, we're going to hunt down any more like you and get you properly sorted before you start charging for the front lines. " He looked at you bug-eyed. "B-b-b-but what about..." Sighing you grab him by the arm, before pointing it down the next street. "Look lad." He blinked as lanterns began to get snuffed out. "I'm all for beardlings rushing into battle. But we can't have you do it in the dark. Not least when a fog this thick is on the loose...."
You grumbled as you lead the umgi around, your eye's inspecting the small number of defences you could see as they were slowly manned by some umgi who looked far more groggy than you would have liked but they would be awake soon, you ended up gathering a rather impressive number of umgi as you lead them to the nearby armoury, a lot of umgi militia looking about ready to crawl into a corner, then again this was likely their first battle and umgi young never did have the constitution for battle without a leader, you'd have to see about getting one of the umgi elders to oversee them.
Looking around you spotted a particularly tall umgi who looking at your group with dread. A massive swan winged helm rested on his head that was at least a size or two larger than him, judging from the extra padding you could see jutting out. Marching over with a sigh you made a last-minute check. "Your one of those "Swanknights' aye?" The lad nodded looking poor as he stared at the 'rabble'. "You got lost trying to find your company didn't you lad?" He refused to hold your gaze but nodded. "Alright then, you have experience?" His head rose up blinking. "Aye, 7 years." That got an eyebrow raised, he barely looked 20. After a moment you shook your head. "Alright then, that's 7 more than this lot. You know how formations meant to go?" The lad nodded. "Aye, you know how to spot when your getting flanked?" Again he nodded. Grumbling you sighed before pushing him forward. "Then come on umgi, I need ya to look after this lot, can I rely on you to do it?" The umgi startled as his pauldron jumped slightly making you frown, "aye ma-ma-ster dwarf, though I fear I've never lead anyone before" His voice clearing as he got his bearings and glanced away from you. "Well you've got 7 more than me when I became thane." He looked at you with wide eyes. "Now hop too, you're late!"
In his best attempt at an authoritative tone, the lad gathered the mob and began marching them to the town square where they would hopefully meet up with lord Aragost before the battle kicked off.
A crack of lightning sounded in the distance startling the umgi within the building, "Keep in mind what I told you!" You ran from the building as your voiced thundered out into the street, a light drizzle starting to poor in.
You reached the Harbour in time for you to hear the umgi on their ships approaching the waves choppy within the Fog as the fake dock looked just right in it, while further ahead atop the docks you spotted a few of the clans engineers lighting what looked to be rather long charges on some explosive satchels on the posts made to look like lanterns that glowed dimly.
Fake Dock quality: 94 (DC of 70 needed for the first wave and will drop slowly drop by 10 for each wave.)
Umbar First Wave Perception: 57+7(Umgi commander of first waves perception) =64
Cannon: 100+10+17-20=107 (Natural-Crit!)
You waited patiently your thrund resting in your hand as you spotted the outline of a few umgi ships. Lanterns adorned their wooden umgak vessels, though any greater details were obscured by the thick fog. There were maybe seven or so heading in the wrong direction, their target the fake docks, who's lanterns glowed like a mothtrap in the gloom. Though you had yet to see it apparently the Umgi had even gone to the efforts of making a wooden tower tall enough to pose as the lighthouse. To your amusement you could even here the sound of umgi jeering as they slowly closed in. Meanwhile another set of ships moving towards you, though at much faster speeds likely intending to run aground on the beaches. You would look forward to their surprise when they ram into the dockwalls
The storm around you slowly picked up while the umgi at the flanks shifted uncomfortably in silence as they waited, Grunting you nodded to Elder Alric, "It's time. "Okay lads! It's time to give this lot a proper Dawi welcome." You raised your Thrung as the Throng began to bellow chants at the umbar drowing out their shouts.
The Cannon thundered as it illuminated the cliff and nearby ships entering the bay, the sound of wood splintering before a massive signal fire went off, an umgi ship catching alight as you saw the outline of a nearby ship shuddering to a halt as it sank beneath the waves, the umgi's jeers turning to shouts of fear as the first ships got in range of your line while those heading for the first dock smashed into the steep cliffs.
(No Debuff for first two waves due to cannon crit)
(First Wave never made it too sure in significant numbers)
The umgi barely had time to dismount before your clans guns tore into the umgi along the sides of their ships, entire ships decks been cleared as the umgi's arrows rained down upon them, barely a dozen umgi making it off the boats before they were all but turning their ships around, well the few that could still sail much of the umgi's ships having sunk into the bay along the cliffs.
You Grinned as you watched the few umgi who made it get cut down by a few umgi bowmen and waited as the next wave was slowly illuminated by the burning ship, the umgi within no doubt far more cautious as they realised there was no other sound than your clan singing, while the umgi beside you cheered as their spirits lifted at the seeming victory. Though time ticked by agnosingly you started to tap your boot and glanced over to Logan, "Are naval invasions always so damn long?"
Logan shrugged before letting his axe rest a litte, "No clue, though if what I heard from some Barak Varrie a few years before the shift is true, well then maybe, of course the urk's apparently liked to send in enough ships to cover the entire sea and land where they could, honestly don't know but I'd rather a proper slog than this." He said while glancing out at the ships.
Cannon: 29+10+17-10(Wet Powder)=46
Umbar second wave Perception: 67+10(Fireship) (DC passed only 1 ships falls for the fake docks but the Dc is lowered by 15 instead of 10 as the umgi are picking up on the ruse.)
You nodded turning back to them only to see the cannon spit out a round which flew over an umgi ship as it went over a rather high wave as it deck dipping at the last moment the ball only taking a few umgi with it making you frown, damned weather was making it hard to hit them, not that it could be helped, glancing up to the sky you noted that it was slowly getting heavier as the storm blew in from the sea.
It did not take long for the umgi to approach the dock only one of them seemed to have fallen for the trick which was a bit of a shame, but you knew it was a long shot especially with that damned fire burning but at least it was giving you a good outline of the six ships approaching. Taking aim you looked over the group of ships and took aim knowing that this was going to be messy.

Corsair Landing: 90+12-25(Second wave debuffs)=77 (Manage to Disembark in good order and pull out.)
Grumbling Guard Special Ranged Attack: 30+17+20+10=78
Your round hit an umgi's causing him to fall atop his fellow umgi throwing them into the water, while further bulles tore through the front ranks of the umgi outline but far too many of the umgi looked fine for your liking, while the sound of umgi cheered at managing to land on the docks not all that bothered by your attempts of sabotage.
Barking some orders you reloaded as quickly as you could but their was only so much distance, though as you were about done reloading some of the grumbling guard threw there axe's while others raised a strange looking Thrung. The umgi charging through the mist allowing you to see them properly for the first time making you sneer.
The axe's cleaved through the front of their ranks a moment later dismembering some while others flew into fog disappearing the sound of umgi yelling out bringing you grim amusement, The umgi closed a little managing to get on the beach before your elders shot obscuring your vison for a moment the umgi that were hit screaming out in pain and fog blocking your view, only to clear in a moment the umgi line bloodied but not stopped some of them were slowed by the pitfalls but if it botherd them they didn't shot it. The Axe's of the grumbling guard cleaving a few before returning to their owners their blades bloody.
The Front line braced as the umgi reached the wall as you heard your kin below. "Khazuk, Khazuk-HA!" The throng taking one step forward as they reached the top of the wall and were met with the axe's of your kin.

The umgi smashing into your small line as if they were a tidal wave only for your kin to throw them back, the umgi slowly piling up at the base of the small wall, when a single explosion went off on the docks looking to catch the last dregs at the rear of the formation, those assaulting your lines ignoring the explosion in favour of savagely clawing up the hill. Though it made you scowl as you shot a rather large umgi as you realised the charges must have doused from all the rain.
You kept firing into their ranks, the umgi nearly breaking on your left flank at one point only for Arrasuil to rally and push them back at pike point, though you managed at least two-thirds of the umgi wave falling to your defensive line as bolts picked off any umgi that looked to try and push into gaps that opened up, a few of the beardlings even having to be rotated out as you spotted one of them sporting injuries. While the cannon even scored a small hit along their back lines.
The sun slowly started to shine through the thick fog, not that it helped as you could already make out the outline of the next ships making for the port, something that was worrying as you had yet to deal with the group already on the beach despite the pile of bodies that now lay before the wall the umgi having to scale their dead to reach you.

You growled as you heard the cannon fire again only for nothing to happen to the umgi ships as they continued to sale towards the beach, none of them falling for the trap as the umgi continued to try and push your clan back into the town.
Logan let out a huff as he shoved his thrung into a nearby beardlings hands who had a nasty gash over his eye, "Take that, can't aim for the life of me anyway, see you later Gotri but I no good back here so I'm gonna go and show this lot of beardlings how to use a damn axe!" He bellowed over the stormas he unslung his shield and grabbed his axe moving into the shield wall. His blade cutting down an umgi before butchering another two as he rallied the young beardlings.
You nodded only giving the slightest of acknowledgements as you went back to aiming your gun at the oncoming umgi, the wind buffeting your face as water stung agains your exposed skin while the umgi line while thin had enough numbers to survive until the next group landed. Though while the storm grew worse the fog at least was a little less that you could see the docks for once.

You looked for an umgi and spotted a commander and took a shot only for another to get in the way making you wing him, frowning you wiped your gun off as the fresh enemies quickly climbed over the fallen and joined the ranks of the umgi their numbers actually causing the bodies to buckle a little though it remained as they continued to hack away at the shield line finding little purchase to sink their weapons into your formation as they continued to try and gain ground.
While further back in the line you watched as umgi were peppered with multiple arrows or shot, the cohesion slowly breaking apart for the umgi as they began to get sloopy in fear, their volleys landing closer to the line than you would like one even shattering against one of the beardlings armours but it thankfully held, but you were gonna have words with the umgi for nearly injuring one of the clan. Especially as it seemed that their volleys were getting far to clustered more and more of them hitting the same area.
While the Grumbling guard moved as one their axe's dancing to the symphony of death as they worked to dismember and kill the umgi that even made it near them, the wazzocks slowly starting to fear them though it did not deter them, while off to the side you watched as the umgi marines slowly buckled under a push, Lord Halton managing to somehow get the lot of them back in order after dispatching another umgi leader.
Grunting you glanced around and spotted who you were looking for, "Kargun!" The fullbeard grunted as he shield bashed an umgi over the edge, before falling back into the line a beardling taking his place.
He scowled at you as he took a deep breath while glancing at the line hoping for an opening, you muttered a small prayer to the Ancestors before speaking, "Gather a few of the warriors, looks like the damned umgi might break if they lose any more, especially with all those landing, make sure to sure up any gaps, should be plenty of umgi to go around.
Kargun nodded before glancing around gathering those that he could, you turned back to the umgi and took another shot, it seemed that there would be a fair more coming, though you were interrupted from reloading as you heard your name called, glancing behind you spotted one of the umgi push into the rear ranks.
The flushed looking umgi breathing deeply from what looked like a long sprint, you shoved your water tankard into his hands, "Drink and then speak," You said before putting away one of your rounds, the distraction having made you forget to keep it dry.
The umgi drank deeply as you finished reloading and took aim and fired into the mass as the next wave of boats pierced the fog.
"Master Dwarf" glancing behind you saw the umgi offering your tankard
You grunted and shoved it back onto your belt before gesturing for him to continue while going through the process of reloading. "So, what you doing here lad, looks like your one of the damn militia"
The lad took a moment to compose himself, long enough that you actually managed to nearly fully reloaded, "News from the fields, they're saying that the rangers are withdrawing from the nearby beaches soon and Lord Aragost thought you should know."
Scowling you took aim and shot only to graze an umgi, "This is no concern to me or the dawi here, let him know we'll hold and if things turn dire I will see what I can do but I need all the warriors I have here," You growled while jutting your chin in the direction of the battle happening nearby, "If you want to help out though lad, make a run for the keep. I've got some Dawi waiting there to be put to use as reserves. Tell Uvor what you told me and tell him his time will probably be coming sooner than we anticipated." You said before stopping and turning to him "now get out of here and also tell that lord of yours prepare a fresh regiment for those lot along their getting sloppy," You Growled out your thumb been pointed at the gondorian umgi while the next umgi ships stopped along the docks.

The Cannon roaring in fury as the engineers on it finally got it to fire properly again, the last few rounds having been mediocre and off for your liking one of the umgi ships actually beginning to sink as those aboard it were no doubt pulled beneath by the current, The umgi ships seeming to falter slightly as they tried to avoid the sinking ship, thankfully looking to slow them down while the umgi off to the side looked to be tiring, something that annoyed you as Aragost had seen to withhold aid until it was certain that the line was breaking.
Grunting you took aim and fired only for a puff of smoke to come out your barrel, letting out a few curses you looked over your gun to find the barrel round jammed into the barrel, Glancing around you spotted a small number of unused guns laid against the nearby wall and took one and looked it over, the rain thankfully having not gotten into the spare stock that was left just in case something like this happened, though it was a rare occurrence especially if the guns were maintained well something you seemed to have been neglecting.
Growling you went over all the checks to make sure the damn thing was usable and did not have any quirks or issues, all the while you could hear the sound of the battle slowly growing louder as more and more of the raiders made it to the beach despite the clans best efforts. Though your clan was holding well the umgi's umgak arms and armour no better than urk's as they threw themselves at you without thought.

You Finally managed to get yourself sorted out just in time to watch as the next set of ships entered the bay, far fewer than the last bunch but so much larger that you could not help but worry, the Cannon roared again it's round only smashing through the upper decks but nothing else, it had no doubt killed more than a few umgi but it seemed to have little affect of in it.
The ships disgorging out umgi in roughly similar numbers but instead of the expected umgi you spotted groups with proper arms and armour, their formation organised and been directed at the clan, the umgi within chanting as they marched over the corpses of their fallen breatharian.
You were about to shoot when you heard the distinct sound of a Ranger horn been blown in the distance, growling you looked over the group as you realised that you would have to really on the umgi to hold now that the Town was likely to be surrounded now that those outside were falling back and could no longer contest the landings, shaking your head you aimed back at the group as you watched the cannon fire and take out a group of archers.

You aimed alongside the rest of the clans Thunderers as Falstad called to aim at the umgi archers, the volley decimating their entire central formation, those that survived breaking apart as they dived for cover the few the loosed their arrows traveling to hit well before the line, while the umgi in armour continued forward pushing the rabble into your lines, many of the unarmoured been cleaved by dawi axe or umgi pike, they died quickly but not quick enough for your liking.
It felt like eternity as you reloaded and took aim and shot at the archers again, their numbers slowly regrouping as a few of their captains barked out orders, glancing over the lot you while reloading you spotted an umgi wearing rather ornate armour amongst the group and took made note of him.
Though as you finished loading you watched as they charged into your left flank, the umgi their faltering under the charge, Lord Halton fighting slowly as those around him slowly dwindled.
You were barking out orders for the warriors to start their counter attack when you saw the last of the Lebannin Marines make their stand. Barely a dozen men still fighting 'Thorongil' and Halton fought back to back against the onslaught, the 'lord of Cardolan' blowing deeply into a horn that hung from his cuirass.
What few survivors remained attempted to put up a fight were eventually whittled down until only the two remained, slowly tiring as waves of Umgi rushed them.
Giving a bark of anger you attempted to fire in the corsairs direction only to curse as your shot spluttered, too damp to light.
Ahead the Corsair commander strode forth in black armor raising a hand to stop the onslaught before quickly engaging the pair
Growling you ordered Kargun to reinforce the failing Umgi, leading a company of warriors. Meanwhile, the exhausted pair of umgi fought like dogs. Tearing at the Corsair until eventually 'Thorongil' slipped on the wet stone. Collapsing to the ground, raising his greatsword to kill him, the Corsair was battered aside by the old Gondorian who grappled with him for a moment until he suddenly spasmed. Clutching his heart he could barely had the time to notice before the Corsair drew a blade and slit his throat.
He didn't have long to celebrate before the downed chieftain suddenly lurched upwards putting a dagger deep into the corsairs side.
(1170 Umbar remain alive on the +15 To all rolls 900 Belegaer Footmen, 50 Corsair Savages and 220 Corsair Archers)
Kargun barked and the warriors moved as one, their axe's cleaving through umgi mail as they moved at speed, their weapons flashing as they slew the umgi rear ranks and threw down the umgi that tried to climb over their fallen, the cobblestone ground soaked in red blood that slowly drained to the ocean as rain poured over it, the warriors not stopping as their boots walked over the fallen. Thorongil been pulled back into the ranks as his wounds were tended to.
"Gotri get your head out your ass and shoot the damn archers!" You heard Falstad shout at you making you blink as you aimed and managed to hit an umgi in the arm, his arrow falling short of the line.
You reloaded as you glanced to the side to see the umgi pikemen advance as one, while the corsairs fought ferociously as they realised that there would likely be no escape, especially as more and more of their line was cut off, many of them managing to find gaps in the pike wall and exploit it to devastating effect killing many of your allies.
Though it was pointless because by the time you had reloaded the umgi leader was dead and those left were now climbing over the shakily formed hill of their dead, the earthen wall now at level with them, though it was still in your favour as they slipped over wet corpses as they tried to keep in formation as umgi barked to one another causing confusion within their ranks, lightning flashing above, the demandable fog all but clearing, while Falstad started barking orders to the umgi.

Thankfully as you shot an umgi marching over the bodies you noted that no other ships had decided to enter the bay, the umgi left fighting as one, their superior skill to your clan, growling you noted that while they seemed to struggle to get orders correctly they moved with practised ease. "Form up Beardlings! This will be your first proper test against some proper foes." Your gun went off the round coring through an umgi's helmet.
While others were dropped from a volley of Thunderers, while the umgi bowmen unleashed massed volleys again showing their skill with the bow something you knew well but their experience shun through as they picked off umgi within the line, their arrows injuring or killing multitudes of their line.
Despite the fact your clan and allies were raining down a torrent of death on them, they kept their shield up and advanced in a semi-coherent line, their footing slowly growing secure as they advanced.
You managed to reload in time to watch their remaining archers loose a volley into the backs of their own men, though much of it looked to fall short of even that, the rabble having all but broken the second their was even a hint of a counter barrage.
The Cannon roared as its payload landed low complete taking out a small section of umgi on the left before a geyser of gore exploded as it buried itself into the dead, blood splattering all over you and the field, the distraction enough for the raiders to charge across the last leg nearly unimpeded as the gondorians shrieked in horror, their front line buckling under the charge.
Though where they met success with the umgi they met a thick steel wall of dawi, their forces barely pushing you back an inch, before elders along the line shouted in sync as their axe's carved a bloody path through those that dared to push, the last of the umgi having to actually climb over the pile of dead as the last of them were cut down.
Your shots measured as you took out any that looked to try and kill one of your kin, while off to the side the umgi assaulting the pikemen suffered a similar fate, as the last of them were cut down by the advancing pikemen that were swinging around to encircle the last of the umgi on the right flank.
The Gondorians having all but broken as the last of them fought back to your line the Thunderers having taken up their axes and shields, the umgi trying desperately to strike out, a few of them even begged for mercy when they realised there was no escape, mostly the young but some of the clan had fallen because of them and they were given no quarter. Especially as their seemed to be more of the umgi coming from outside.
***
You drank deeply from your tankard as the rain washed your armour, the stench of blood actually so potent you could smell it despite the rain and sea smell dampening it, while black powder only seemed to have the barest of presence. Closing your eyes you knelt next to the beardlings who had died here and prayed Gazul would lead them well to halls of the ancestors.
Opening them you looked at the nine beardlings their beards barely below the chest was all you needed to know that they were young, letting out a sigh you stood up knowing that it was always they who suffered the most in throngs, why only four other dawi of the clan could be said to have been the same age of you so many more cut down before their time.
Growling you marched back into the town, you needed to find out what was going on and for someone to take over for that Wazock Aragost why Halton, you hoped he made it to whatever afterlife he believed in, had thought it was a good idea to put a mere twenty-year-old in charge of overall deployment you would never know and because of that more of the clan had died than was necessary.
As you were marching into the town you could see lady Baheriel drenched in blood her arm shaking as she glanced around warily, approaching her you waved off some of the clan so that you could speak with the lass in peace. "My lady, how are you holding up?"
She jumped slightly her eyes a little wild before she got a hold of herself, "As well as can be Lord Gotri, It's just… I've never fought so many of them before and the way they were throwing themselves at us," She shivered as she fell into silence.
You shrugged while offering her some water ale which she took gratefully while pulling some proper ale for yourself and took a sip before speaking. "You get used to it" you didn't notice her wide-eyed stare "Not as bad as things could be and far worse places to fight from, why a few battles easily outclass this," You said and heard her gulp.
She seemed to glance at her feet before speaking again, "Your homeland sounds like a terrifying place master dwarf." Her statement made you pause as you considered things and could not help but agree, the lack of things trying to kill you had taken a long time to come to terms with, nearly two decades for you really.
"Aye, it really is but it's made us who we are, and I'll not trade an ounce of our pain for the experience we were given, especially if it makes the clan and our allies all the safer." You said as the two of you settled into silence as you approached the command office, "So, I hate to do this, but after the foolish display of command I'm afraid I nor the clan much trust your husband, especially after he failed to judge the situation within the harbour and we lost Lord Halton due to inaction."
Lady Baheriel stopped to glare at him as she had a retort on the tip of her tongue before stoping and seemed to sag, "I'll not say more on the matter Lord Gotri, just know if you demand another to take his place it will no doubt insult his pride." She said resigned making a shrug.
"Then he can nurse it however he pleases but I will not allow my clan suffer any more unnecessary loss, I've seen you held ahead for war and either you will lead or I'll speak with your captains myself and have them follow me so we can get out of this." You said making her stand up fury in her eyes but you continued to speak giving her a pointed look, "I mean no disrespect but I'll not have those who died to be in vain, especially as one of them was a friend to one of the dawi."
Your matter said you marched ahead leaving her to flounder under what you said, you heard her follow you into the war room and saw Aragost sitting there looking lost while an umgi knight who had seen better days his chest plate missing while both his midsection and head were wrapped in bandages.
Looking around you focused on the knight, "What's the situation outside in the field?" Your voice reverberates through the room as his uncovered eye looks at you.
He nodded before standing straight, "The Eastern beaches have been lost, they managed to land too early on…" He seemed lost before rallying a haunted look in his eye, "Most of the horses are already dead I doubt more than a handful of us will be able to help, while the others who were harassing them have already pulled back into the town. We counted near four thousand landing on the eastern banks and maybe one thousand on the west before I was sent here, I could send for a runner if you need to make a decision.
Aragost Mental State: 57-20 (Father is Dead)=37
You Grunted before looking to Aragost and frowned, he looked about ready to collapse into panic, his face a picture of grief, letting out a sigh you glanced at the umgi before muttering a few choice words, decisions needed to be made it seemed.

[] The Umgi have made one to many mistakes Have Falstad take Command (Gain both Burned Pride and Scorned Nobility)
Where Will the Throng Go
[] The Eastern wall where the umgi look to be rallying most of their forces

Nah, he hasn't been born yet. (He was in his 90s during the War of the Ring, we are still 250+ years before that)
The thought seems to be that its a common nickname for Dunedain nobles to use when traveling to hide their identity.
Sooo, it looks like defenses mostly failed and that mostly chaff was sent at the landing site the Dawi were holding.
Makes sense. The Umbar commander likely thought the docks would be the worst killing ground, so he maintained his elites by landing them further away.
That being said, Umbar has no Chaff left. Its all core and elite troops.
Meanwhile, most of the ranged forces on our side remain alive and well. If we can keep the elites at bay, our ranged forces can slaughter them at range.
I'm inclined to check the West first to counter the Umbar ploy.
Hmmm, better than I had feared, worse than I had hoped.
Umbar lost almost 12 thousands soldiers here, right at the start of the campaign. They´ve been effectively maimed, even if they win the coming engagement. Normally I´d be all in for a continued defence, but the command issues bother me. I would love to just take command ourselves, but that´s politically unfeasible. Best case is snapping Aragost out of it, and to act as an independent force together with the dunedain to pick umbar apart. With loses like this, at least the morale of the corsairs has to be collapsing

I think Corsair Savages and Archers have the Expendable rule (cause fallen men) and only the regular line and elite troops dying en masse will cause morale issues.

even so, half of their army died on the first day of campaign, it has to throw a massive curveball at least into the plans of the Umbar commander. The loss of, what, a dozen ships also has to come as an unpleasant surprise
Yeah, the rational thing for Umbar to do here would be to retreat. Even if they take equal loses to the defenders when assaulting the town, they´d still lose 2000 more men. That´d leave them with barely 6 thousand men left and small port town, for 70% level casualities.
Problem is that we can probably expect a certain level of sunk cost fallacy here and expecting humans to act rationally was always a foolish endeavour
Well they do not know how many of them died or how much they achieved.
For all they know we could be almost all dead inside or at full strenght.
They do know that the landing force did not took the city.
I say we put the lady in charge, she is the second best commander in town and we do not actually need to boost our popolarity with this city for a while, I mean we are selling they are buyng, we are done for a while.
Aragost skill is seven, he should not lead an army anyway.
edit
We could take the easy figth, we will win it easly.
But we should not, if they pass the wall they could get to the wounded.
I am willing to trade ten dawi to garantee we will save the 27 wounded.
[x] Write-in
We deploy in the easter wall, but the warriors stay whithin the town to rest and guard the wounded, if need be they will be called to help us or the western wall.
(note, only the 14 clan warriors stay evryone else comes with us)
Uvor and his forces come with us to help hold the wall, they may not be dawi but a kazad can keep a wall way better than any umgi.
If something is wrong in my formatting please tell.
The Front line braced as the umgi reached the wall as you heard your kin below. "Khazuk, Khazuk-HA!" The throng taking one step forward as they reached the top of the wall and were met with the axe's of your kin.

10 years is really nothing to a dwarfs and we already have a trade deal for 50 years so we are fine,
