Why split the fire? I'd just all shoot at the core, if it's visible; remember we're going for maximum concentration of firepower. I like the dialogue, but I am going to write my own plan:
[X] Operation Inevitable Failure
-[X] Instructions for Rei:
Charge, shoot at the core. Co-ordinate with Shinji to fire at the same time, or as close as possible. Keep AT Field up, cover yourself, be prepared to reposition. Tell her to come back alive and well, and we'll talk later.
-[X] Instructions for Shinji:
As Rei; Charge, fire at the core, co-ordinate. AT Field to close defence, be prepared to reposition. Give him a timer if he needs it. Tell him he'll do fine, and the others have his back just as he has theirs.
-[X] Instructions for Asuka:
Charge, fire before - but as close as possible to - Shinji and Rei, to batter down the Angel's defences. Aim at the core. Spread AT Field to cover friendlies behind her.
Tell her she's got this chance to prove herself more than a shit-talking, arrogant, useless blowhard. Tell her to do her thing, and get a second tally mark - and make sure she knows she's got friendly tanks behind her and under her protection.
--[X] Actually make a note to put up a kill-board for the pilots somewhere. And/or have the techs paint little kill silhouettes on the Evas.
-[X] Instructions for the JSSDF:
Tanks and similar slow-moving direct-fire vehicles behind Asuka (covered by her AT Field), to fire
after she fires. If they are not aready deployed on the field, hold them in reserve. Fast-moving VTOL and other similar forces to spread out, waiting for the same cue; impress on them the imperative to not bunch up. All forces should be ready to reposition at the first sign of an enemy attack. Artillery, stationed at the edge of their range, to attempt time-on-target barrage for the same moment. Don't try to precision target, just hit the Angel in general.
Code-named "inevitable failure" because overwhelming displays of firepower do not work against giant monsters
And, because then Misato can dramatically gasp when "operation inevitable failure" fails. General thinking is Asuka batters down the Angel's AT Field, and since she's the best-trained she should have the ability to fire a split-second
before Shinji and Rei; they then concentrate fire on the core, and hopefully it dies before it can react. If it doesn't, then the JSSDF fire covers them while we re-plan and think.
The main point of failure here is if the Angel reacts before the volley can be fired, either by anticipation ("I wonder what those big Angel-like things with big guns are going to do...") or AT Field Bullshit. The first can be alleviated somewhat by firing before the shots are charged, the second is just Angels being Angels. Feedback/alterations are appreciated.
