[X] Hikari's compensation and contract. Hikari was offered very specific incentives to pilot, but it seems like they've gotten lost or shuffled to low priority by NERV's bureaucracy.

[X] Hikari's training. She's completely green, and you have no idea when she might need to be deployed.

Honestly, I have an immense amount of respect for her, knowing now why she did it. I really hope she lives to be proud of her decision.

Angels don't exaclty follow our schedule. Best be prepared first.

Ritsuko is going to hand her off to you to give her a tour of the facilities, discuss details of combat operations, general expectations of her as a pilot, and boring ticky-tacky operational stuff like her benefits and compensation package, which, come to think of it, Ritsuko isn't sure the budget committee has approved yet, so have fun trying to track that down for her.
There is no way "arguing with the budget committee" is in Misato's job description. Also, I would be (pleasantly) shocked if they were paying the kids enough for their compensation to be so much as a rounding error in the costs of operating a building-sized alien/machine/soul? gestalt.

Your head of public relations gives up, slinking out of the room with his tail between his legs, mumbling that Ayanami's the only cooperative one.
I'm glad someone likes Rei.

You're perplexed. What does she mean "let him"? Hikari pushes her fingers together. She reminded Suzuhara that he has a little sister to take care of.
On the other side of the city, Nozomi does whatever the opposite of a sneeze is.

Besides, she's still going to live at home and help out there unless it's like, mandatory to live in your apartment as part of the job or something. It's not, right? You shake your head. Hikari looks relieved.
Obvious, but it's nice to confirm the obvious sometimes.

[ ] Smoothing things over with Hikari's loved ones. You can't imagine her father, sister or boyfriend are very happy she's been selected for this, and you have strong suspicions your pilots, once they're apprised of the situation, aren't going to be happy to know either.
I'd point out that Hikari has two sisters, but on second thought one of them is going to be very happy she's been selected.

Training won't do anything if her EVA's taken over and she can't eject.
Probably not, but I can't think of anything that would prepare us for that.

[X] Hikari's training. She's completely green, and you have no idea when she might need to be deployed.
We usually get about three break weeks between Angel attacks, and this is our second week since Qaspiel. We got four weeks between Dumah and Qaspiel, but let's not assume that's the new Angel rhythm.

Hopefully Hikari's emotional support and relative lack of trauma mean that ignoring the other stuff won't blow up in anyone's face.

As they say, "Assumption is the mother of all fuckups".
Although if we want to metagame some, then we can expect at least one week to do something.
I'm pretty sure we can't pick the same thing twice for one pilot. Another round of sync and physical will have to do.
The same set as last time Synchronization (she has the lowest number of sync tests of all pilots), and Physical (for obvious reasons)

Training is important. Sure. But steel is cheap, lives are irreplacable

Right, and if she gets killed because she has no idea what she's doing, then we've lost something irreplaceable.

Maybe we could get Asuka on this. She's driven, takes no shit, and she'd be helping her friend.

The Fourth Child VI: Confrontation
[X] Hikari's training. She's completely green, and you have no idea when she might need to be deployed.

You decide that priority number one is making sure Hikari has the best chance of getting through her first engagement with the enemy alive. You spend the next day drawing up a crash course in the basics to run Hikari through. You want to ensure she has a good foundation to work with and that she at least kind of knows what she's doing if she has to be sortied. There's all sorts of other bureaucratic crap that needs to be done in the meantime, but you stick to the bare minimum she needs to get her training in.

You get word in from Fuyutsuki that her plugsuit is going to be in very soon, and that Hikari's security credentials are now in the system. NERV Intelligence agents have been dispatched to the Horaki residence to deliver Hikari's security card and other pilot materials such as her emergency protocols and press guidelines. Still no word on her compensation package or stipulations.

NERV's HQ hums with activity as everyone prepares for the imminent arrival of Unit-03. It will be tested and activated in Matsushiro, outside of Tokyo-2. You and Ritsuko are expected to be present at the activation test. What is left unsaid is that the activation test isn't being held at NERV HQ in case Unit-03 is lost in the same manner as Unit-04. Good to know where you and Ritsuko stand in the organization, you think bitterly to yourself. You spend some working out the logistics of the test, which personnel you're going to bring, and planning for some basic field exercises for Unit-03 to do, but it's hard to concentrate on your work. There's too much to do, and not enough time to do it. You don't end up getting much done.

Meanwhile, Ritsuko's team spends more time working on the onboard computing intended for Unit-03, as well as tweaking the Dummy Plug System, which you have serious reservations about using, given the demonstration you were treated to last week. It's too dangerous. You're dreading the few days you're going to have to spend working closely with Ritsuko.

Kodama's Anger

You come home after work one day to Kodama Horaki waiting in the parking lot outside your apartment building. She looks like she's barely holding it together. Her eyes glitter with rage behind her glasses. You get out of the car cautiously. Kodama says how dare you put her sister in harm's way; how dare NERV hide behind children. Her sister is not up to this. She's thirteen! She's supposed to be worrying about entrance exams and that stupid boy she has a crush on, not whether the next day will be her last.

You try to explain that it wasn't up to you in this situation, but Kodama isn't interested in what you have to say. After everything Hikari has done for you and your play-pretend family, this is how you and NERV repay her, huh? Kodama knew she shouldn't have let Hikari get involved with you and the other pilots. She refuses to let her family lose anyone else to your fucking bullshit organization. Kodama balls her fists and says if anything happens to her little sister, if you make her father cry…she knows where you live. You narrow your eyes and ask if that's a threat. Kodama says yeah, it is. What are you going to do about it? Call your unaccountable toadies to disappear her? She's sure that will be a great basis for a working relationship with her little sister. Anyway, you'd better keep Hikari safe. Is Kodama understood?

You decide not to escalate. You're too tired to fight back and you don't think Kodama's going to be receptive to your explanation anyway. You say you'll keep Hikari safe. Kodama says you'd better not be lying. And to stay the fuck away from her and Nozomi. Goodbye. Kodama trudges to a car parked next to your space and drives off.

That could have gone better.

Asuka's technical examination for Fuyutsuki has finally arrived. She can't write well with her arm still being messed up, so Fuyutsuki has changed the format to be oral instead. She's obviously feeling nervous, though as usual, she's trying to put up a tough front. You think she'll probably be fine, but still, you feel worried on her behalf.

You wonder if you should have had her study more for this.

You wish her luck. Asuka says she doesn't need luck because she's got this. For her sake, you hope she's right.

Roll 2d24. 2d12.

Yeah, that's about what I expected from Kodama. Shit sucks.

But Hikari got herself fucking drafted, and now we do everything in our power to keep her alive until the Angel crisis is over.

God i hope we dont have an End of Evangelion to deal with.

She really isn't thinking this through. NERV could frame her absence as her taking a sudden vacation or instead of having her disappeared have her arrested for making criminal threats (which wouldn't even be a lie) or some other trumped up charge. Which all means she's a good sister but not a clever one, NERV could easily cover up her disappearance or take steps to discredit her in the eyes of her sister. She's lucky Misato isn't a bad person because there are so many ways this could have gone wrong for her.

Wow, instant updates!

Let's hope it will not try to eat it's pilot this time.

Ok, why not:
* Use Dummy Plug for activation, if this is only a matter of moving Eva, it's craziness will not be a problem
* Use Dummy Plug instead Hikari during operations until she is properly trained

Ritsuko claims that she has kill-switch working, so the risk should be reduced

Well, I knew it will end this way.

I hate to say this, but she has a point (somewhat).
You narrow your eyes and ask if that's a threat. Kodama says yeah, it is. What are you going to do about it?
Kodama, we all know you are pissed but you really think you have any chance with Misato in a combat?
She was not hired because her looks (no matter what some people may think)

I don't like what Kodama did, it's completely unfair to Misato. Hikari got herself into it on her own will, which made Misato's life harder. Misato also didn't go smoothing things over because she prioritized keeping Hikari safe by training her to survive. And now that bitch comes over to threaten the guardian of 3 EVA pilots? Like Misato doesn't have enough on her plate as is.

Making her disappear is too much at this point, but reporting this to NERV security is a must I believe. Maybe the black suites would tactfully remind Kodama that she has another sister, and NERV knows where she lives. Still better than Misato having to shoot her in self-defense, maybe in front of all the kids.

These are good ideas, which means that Ritsuko or Gendo are going to veto them.

An absolutely absurd idea that just came to me: we make Kodama into our own understudy. Seeing all the bullshit Misato has to deal with on a regular basis is surely going to convince her we're doing the absolute best we can, and will definitely both be allowed and end well! (This is sarcasm.)

Unlike Ritsuko Kodama doesn't, and can't, know better and we explicitly chose not to work to smooth things over with Hikari's family.

I understand why she's angry, just don't find this behavior acceptable. Like when Misato punched Ritsuko.
Rits is a bitch, but she's not a threat at least. Hikari is bound to get hurt sooner or later, and I wouldn't want Misato having to deal with her sister on top of everything else.
