Pretty sure we're running not too far off 1-to-1 with canon for this "episode" so far. TBD how the home front is faring, of course, but still...let's mix things up a little, shall we?

[X] Go home with Kaji to his apartment. It's more intimate, and you're curious.

That was nice. You deserved this. You spend a long time cuddling in each other's arms before you fall asleep. Maybe you did everything right tonight after all.

The hateful yellow ball of plasma that inflicts life and wakefulness on this wretched stone hurtling through the infinite void of space deigns to sear your eyeballs through your eyelids with its baleful rays. You groan and pull the pillow over your head, which throbs painfully in sync with your heartbeat you wish would simply stop. You feel like dried squid.

It takes you a minute to realize you are not in your apartment. You retrace your steps to this point, cringing slightly at each misstep and feeling a growing horror as you realize you unloaded every traumatic thing that's ever happened to you onto Kaji last night in some kind of drunken rant.

The sex was good though. Holy shit was it good. You forgot your bodies could do things like that. You're past the point of regretting it. Of course, trying to navigate what you've started with Kaji is going to be kind of a pain, but that's a problem for Future Misato to handle. Present Misato just wants to go back to bed. You find that your current physiological state is far too icky to allow you to relax, though. A combination of soreness from the alcohol and soreness from last night's other activities makes getting comfortable difficult. You reluctantly open your eyes and ow, fuck, has the visible light spectrum always been this…pointy?

You survey Kaji's bedroom warily. It's messy. Not quite as bad as your own room (there's not beer cans everywhere, at least), but it's definitely pretty cluttered. A pile of laundry sits untidily in a corner. Nothing too unfamiliar here. Both of you were kind of slobs when you lived together. It never got to like…hazardous levels, but your shared apartment back then was definitely not the place to have company over before a panicked deep cleaning the morning of. Your clothes are strewn about the room haphazardly.

The decoration is minimal. There are some really boring landscape photos hung up, a bonsai tree in shockingly good condition on a desk, and a few photos of Kaji, you and Ritsuko from your college days, along with one of him and Asuka. Asuka is squeezing the life out of one of his arms while he makes a visibly pained expression through a toothy grin. The only other photo that stands out is a very grainy picture of six boys wearing rags in front of a heavily damaged building. You don't recognize any of their faces, but you assume one of them must be Kaji.

You put on some underwear and head out to the rest of the apartment. You see a fully-dressed Kaji puttering around in the kitchen. You step out and Kaji almost walks into the counter as he's gawking at you like a schoolboy, nearly spilling a mug of coffee. Feels pretty good you still have that effect on him.

Kaji says the dead walk. You tell him he'll be joining them if he doesn't get you some hair of the dog that bit you. Kaji shakes his head. He doesn't keep any alcohol in his apartment. Not good for him. Also, you know that drinking more doesn't actually cure hangovers, right? You try not to let the dismay show on your face and just ask for water instead. He obliges your request. Kaji eyes you with some suspicion, seemingly debating saying something. He finally asks if you…remember…last night.

It's a bit of a blur in a lot of places, but you remember the parts of last night that matter. Kaji nods and says he sees. That's good then. And with that, he goes to make some toast. It's very awkward, but not unbearably so. You take a moment to help yourself to Kaji's coffee mug and squint at the rest of the apartment, each glimpse penetrating through your eyeballs right into your brain with the intensity of an improvised transorbital lobotomy. You find yourself wishing the sun would go out.

The rest of the apartment is small and consists of a sitting room with a kitchenette, along with a side corridor that leads to a bathroom. It's similarly inoffensively adorned and messy with refuse and clothes. An ashtray that needs to be emptied out sits on the living room table. You notice he doesn't own a television. You figure Kaji must not spend a lot of time here.

Kaji thrusts some toast with jam at you and says to eat. You are feeling oddly hungry after throwing up your entire evening last night, so you gratefully take the toast from his hands and begin scarfing it down. That's all well and good, until your eyes catch sight of a clock on the wall. Oh no.

You ask Kaji if that clock is accurate. He says it's a couple minutes fast, but it's otherwise in working order. You look at the clock face with horror as you realize it is well after ten o' clock. If it were a weekday, you're sure you would be screaming. But this will not do. You have to get going, right now. You begin heading to the door, stumble, stub your toe on Kaji's stupid table, suppress a comedic yelping sound, and reach for the door. Kaji asks if you're planning to get dressed before you head out. He's not exactly against exhibitionism but he thinks it might be a little early in your relationship to get into it right now. You turn red, throw a cushion at him and rush back into Kaji's bedroom to get dressed.

As you're doing so, there is a knock at the door. An extremely loud one that makes your eardrums scream in pain. Who the hell could be knocking that loud on a Sunday? Are they trying to torture you? You throw on your (now quite disheveled) wedding attire and stomp out into the living room, feeling grumpy. Kaji shrugs and opens the door.

It's Shinji. You slam your palm into your forehead. Which is a terrible idea, because your entire head is throbbing in two different harmonies now. Shinji looks a combination of mortified and judgmental. You make a face. He clears his throat and says, uh, hi, Misato.

Hello, Shinji. You grit your teeth and tell him he doesn't have to knock so loud. He says that wasn't him knocking. Um, sorry. He gestures to the other person with him. Standing some distance back is Rei, and she looks thoroughly unamused. She gives Kaji the stinkeye as she pushes past Shinji and walks into the apartment without taking off her shoes. Right, you sort of forgot she hates Kaji. Shinji gives you and Kaji an apologetic look as he helplessly watches Rei immediately begin inspecting the place in a way that reminds you uncannily of the way Gendo inspected your own apartment after Rei first moved in. Kaji quickly moves to shepherd her back to the door and quips entrance to his bachelor pad is for fully-grown women only. Rei glares at him in response. Kaji moves to physically walk her back to the entrance by grabbing her by her shoulders, but clearly thinks better of it based on the sheer malevolence radiating off the girl. She reluctantly goes back outside on her own.

Shinji hastily explains everyone got a little worried when you didn't come back at all last night or this morning, so Asuka proposed an impromptu search party. Rei pipes up that she ensured that Sohryu would not come here. You meekly thank Rei. The thought of Asuka catching you in flagrante delicto makes your very soul scream in pain. Shinji volunteered to check here but Rei insisted she come along. Shinji is obviously annoyed by this.

Rei points at you and says you are hurt with clear and obvious anger tinging her usually monotone voice. She takes a step towards Kaji, who backs up. It takes you a second to figure out that Rei has noticed a love bite on your neck. Shinji turns red and looks at the floor. Oh, you do not have it in you to explain what a hickey is to Rei Ayanami right now. You decide to tell a white lie and say Kaji did not do that to you. You hurt yourself when drunk, that's all. Rei seems to buy it.

Kaji says he's, uh, gonna go check on something at the office. He'll call you later, Katsuragi. He manages to get away by slipping past Rei, who makes a halfhearted attempt to block his path. You pinch the bridge of your nose. Not really how you wanted this morning to go. You grab one of his housekeys from a bowl near the door and step outside, locking the apartment behind you. With any luck, you've locked him out of his apartment. Serves him right for ditching you.

The two of them look at you questioningly. It's clear they know why you're here, though you're a bit fuzzy on what exactly Rei knows about this subject. You're not all that keen to find out right now, though. The unspoken question hangs in the air.

How do you want to handle this information when it comes to Asuka?

[ ] Ask Shinji and Rei to keep this from Asuka for now. Have them tell her they found you in a ditch somewhere or something.
[ ] Ask Shinji and Rei not to say anything about this, but stop short of telling them to lie on your behalf.
[ ] Don't bother; she's going to find out sooner or later. Let the pilots tell her where you were found.

Rei raises an eyebrow. Is that an order?
[ ] Yes
[ ] No

You drag yourself back to your apartment escorted by your two chaperones like a sullen child caught sneaking out. There's a noticeable tension between the two that's different than usual. Sure, they weren't getting along great when you last saw them, but things were getting better. Did something happen last night?

Special Activity

You may do one special activity of your choosing each week. It won't raise Rei's stats, but you can use it to bond with her, affect her mood, or solve her problems. Additionally, you can also use this slot to pursue your own projects, if any. This is not controlled by majority vote. The QM will merely choose the most entertaining one. Note that this activity does not have to include the pilots.

Fuyutsuki is still at a conference, so you will not be meeting with him this week.

Question - where is the option that we apologize to Rei-chan, and ask us to choose a punishment for us because we screwed up?

I did not expect the update so quickly.
Nice.
The hateful yellow ball of plasma that inflicts life and wakefulness on this wretched stone hurtling through the infinite void of space deigns to sear your eyeballs through your eyelids with its baleful rays.
I had no idea that Drunken Misato is a poet.
The only other photo that stands out is a very grainy picture of six boys wearing rags in front of a heavily damaged building.
Keeping a photo reminding you of the worst time of your life is not the best idea…
The decoration is minimal
No melons?
Kaji says the dead walk.
Well, he has some point.
You ask Kaji if that clock is accurate. He says it's a couple minutes fast, but it's otherwise in working order. You look at the clock face with horror as you realize it is well after ten o' clock.
And here we go…
Shinji looks a combination of mortified and judgmental. You make a face. He clears his throat and says, uh, hi, Misato.
It's not what it looks like, Shinji...
Standing some distance back is Rei, and she looks thoroughly unamused. She gives Kaji the stinkeye as she pushes past Shinji and walks into his apartment without taking off her shoes.
Told you guys.
Shinji volunteered to check here but Rei insisted she come along. Shinji is obviously annoyed by this.
Is he annoyed by Misato's state or Rei's presence?
There's a noticeable tension between the two that's different than usual. Sure, they weren't getting along great when you last saw them, but things were getting better. Did something happen last night?
Okay, there was no previous question. This is bad. Very bad.
I assume some very ugly shit had happened at the cemetery, and Rei probably defended Gendo.
And seeing Misato happy right after sex when Rei (the person he wanted to mend a relationship) is around does not help either.
Talking with Asuka will be easy compared to this.
Oh, you do not have it in you to explain what a hickey is to Rei Ayanami right now.
I doubt Future Misato will be happy to explain this either. While Rei may have no clue, I assume Shinji and Asuka know something about those matters.

[X] Ask Shinji and Rei not to say anything about this, but stop short of telling them to lie on your behalf.
[X] No
-[X] But this is a delicate matter, and it needs to be resolved later in a calm and cooperative way. You trust Rei that she understands this.

Beta version of talks, I am not sure about this. We have to minimize the damage.

[X] Talk to Rei about: Mood
-[X] Specifically on meeting with the Commander
[X] Talk to Shinji about: Friendship
[X] Talk to Asuka about: NERV

Activities:

[X] Rei: Arts Program
[X] Shinji: Free time/go out
[X] Asuka: Study

[X] Rei: Physical Training
[X] Shinji: Physical Training
[X] Asuka: Snychronization Training

Maybe Rei and Shinji need a bit to calm down. Art always helps Rei, so it will be useful. Also, we will have some insight into her head.
Shinji needs to unwind.
And for now, the less we see Asuka, the better.

EDIT: Added special activity
Special Activity:
[X] Go to the kids and learn what happened (i.e., what Gendo screwed again) at the cemetery. First ask each separately for their side of the story, then wait for a good opportunity to get them both, and make some counseling session.

[X] Write-in: Apologize to Rei for breaking my promise and neglecting their duties as a guardian. Offer to grant Rei-chan any wish in exchange (even if it means ignoring us for a whole week).

Ideally, we should probably ask Rei and Shinji to let us handle telling Asuka. Trying to cover it up is just asking for trouble, but Asuka needs to hear the news from Misato and Kaji, not Rei. We love her, but Rei used Charisma as a dump stat during character creation. Plus it's something Misato should handle anyway, though it should probably wait until she's not nursing a killer hangover.

[X] Ask Shinji and Rei not to say anything about this, but stop short of telling them to lie on your behalf.
[X] Yes
-[X] This is something Misato needs to discuss directly with Asuka, not something she should hear about from others.

No strong feelings on the action phase yet, though it seems like we should try and figure out what happened last night with the kids.

Special Activity:
[X] Make a game plan and break the news to Asuka without causing a huge scene. Or more realistically, ensuring Asuka's inevitable blow-up is at least somewhat contained. Make sure Kaji helps with both parts: he helped create this mess, so he better help you fix it too.

I'm halfway tempted to try to strong-arm Kaji into co-parenting with us. Single mom-ing three teenagers is hard, and a second person for the kids to talk to would probably be good for them. Well, at least Shinji, since Rei currently dislikes Kaji and Asuka is unlikely to be happy.

Hm. I'm not sure exactly how to encode it, but asking Shinji about how things went with Gendo yesterday seems both appropriate (we're checking on something we know was important to him & which was likely to be precarious at best) and hopefully informative (Gendo's been the cause of issues between Rei and Shinji before & could plausibly be related to their most recent tensions). Could be salt in the wound if it went badly, but with luck we can at least partly make up for that by offering a sympathetic ear.

We love her, but Rei used Charisma as a dump stat during character creation.
Actually (if we use typical DnD attributes), not exactly. Charisma is not only a pretty face and being nice, but overall strength of personality. It is also used for intimidation. And Rei can be quite intimidating.
Ironically, both Rei and Asuka have very similar distribution. High Intelligence/Very Low Wisdom/High Charisma.
Well, at least Shinji, since Rei currently dislikes Kaji and Asuka is unlikely to be happy.
Yeah, and this is why he should be kept away for now.

For now, it looks that Asuka's date was probably as boring as in canon, but nothing disastrous. So the much bigger issue is Shinji.
But am also not sure how to phrase it. Maybe something like this.
I'm assuming that something happened with Gendo, not that bored Asuka tried to seduce Shinji (like in canon) and Rei saw it.

[X] Go to the kids and learn what happened (i.e., what Gendo screwed again) at the cemetery. First ask each separately for their side of the story, then wait for a good opportunity to get them both, and make some counseling session.

Damn, even Rei knows it's a bad idea to drunkenly hook up with an ex...

Probably totally worth it though.

Not too many thoughts here; I don't think we've yet talked to Asuka about the world, and I'm shuffling pilots between training types just to keep us going there. Asuka could use a bit more non-work time but she does need to get her kanji together, hence my choice.

[X] Special Activity Write-In: Spend some time thinking about how best to handle the whole "getting back together with an ex who is either too popular or too unpopular amongst the kids" thing. It'd be better to be prepared for Asuka finding out, at least...

It takes you a minute to realize you are not in your apartment. You retrace your steps to this point, cringing slightly at each misstep and feeling a growing horror as you realize you unloaded every traumatic thing that's ever happened to you onto Kaji last night in some kind of drunken rant.
Torn between "Good, Misato didn't forget everything that happened last night" and "Oh no, Misato remembers everything that happened last night."

Um, sorry. He gestures to the other person with him. Standing some distance back is Rei, and she looks thoroughly unamused. She gives Kaji the stinkeye as she pushes past Shinji and walks into his apartment without taking off her shoes. Right, you sort of forgot she hates him.
And current circumstances do not make her more likely to appreciate him. Or Misato.

Between them, they knew how to avoid needless Kaji drama. Unfortunately, they only got ~70% of the way there.

There's a noticeable tension between the two that's different than usual. Sure, they weren't getting along great when you last saw them, but things were getting better. Did something happen last night?
Beyond the obvious?

A little of both, but primarily at Rei tagging along and making this conversation even more awkward than it already would have been.

For what it's worth, Rei is far more upset at Kaji than with you. Though you're not completely off the hook here.

I skip one vote and wake up next to Kaji?!
I mean, it's not the worst thing to wake up too, but still.

(I feel like the worst result of a drunken hook-up would be to wake up next to Gendo.)

We need to make up with Rei. The last thing we said to her was "I love you," and then we broke our promise to her and spent the night with a man she hates. This is absolutely going to fall under the "preferential treatment" shade Asuka has been throwing our way, but we can only deal with so much at a time.

... actually, maybe we need to really start trying to ship Asuka and Shinji together, to make her forget about Kaji and not care about our escapades. :V
