Hello, apologies for the confusion. I decided it'd be best to just do a crude diagram of Tamiel's head. Haeckel I am not, unfortunately. This is a view from above, and the two mandibules are currently crushing Unit-02's ankle.
I believe that it might be capable of actual reproduction, so the tail is actually not a tail, it's ovipositor. It is possible the core is there, but apparently the AT field is particularly strong near the jaws... but it's possible that the ring is causing some increase in power to the AT field and it is located in the back end.
It is also possible it is somewhere in the middle, safest option. I wouldn't be surprised if it can actually just... drop off most-back or most-front ends like a damn utility segmented knife
[X] Plan: TAILSTOMPER
-[X] Rei: Keep firing at its tail; maybe she can distract it or do some damage
-[X] Shinji: Fire at its tail; maybe he can distract it or do some damage
-[X] Asuka: Focus on getting free
-[X] JSSDF: Artillery Barrage on the tail.
Let's see if its AT field can resist a good Positronic Alpha Strike. Hopefully it helps Asuka get free; absolutely nothing good can come of her staying in its jaws.
Looks like a big centipede bastard, ala Astel from Elden Ring. Hopefully this one won't do the bullshit grab attack, but it's going to kick our asses anyway.
So, two rough options present themselves. We can continue shooting at it with the rifles and hope Asuka deals with the Angel's head by itself, or do some weapon swapping and go all-in on punching the Angel in the face with big axes. However, our rifles aren't doing much - they're not penetrating the Angel's AT Field and don't seem to be doing much to its armour either - and I suspect we'd need to properly neutralise the enemy's AT Field to change that.
With that in mind, I'm working up this one, which is a very close variant of MilitantBird's plan:
[X] Plan: Fire and Movement
-[X] Asuka: Focus on neutralizing the AT-Field along its head
-[X] Rei: Go to Asuka's aid
-[X] Shinji: Fire at its tail; maybe he can distract it or do some damage
- [X] Instructions for the JSSDF (write-in): Pull back any close-quarters troops, maintain artillery fire on the tail. Attempt some shots along the body to get a reaction. Move air-mobile forces around to the head and prepare to engage.
The general concept here is to have Rei scoot around to where she can help Asuka and get a shot at the head, use Shinji to keep shooting at the Angel from a different direction, and make the head vulnerable. The core's not certain to be there, but it will hopefully remove one of the Angel's weapons. If necessary, we'll just kill it from head to tail. Next turn, depending on how things go, my plan is to either swap Shinji over to an Axe/Glaive and move him in, continue on the same course, or focus fire on a revealed core.
We got some questions answered with this first move, the MK-20s are all but useless against its body, punched through it AT-field against its stinger but the damage was minimal against its exoskeleton and the axe is not working out very well either on its own, so with that in mind.
[X] Operation Stone Grave
-[X] Rei: Go to Asuka's aid
-[X] Shinji: Go to Asuka's aid
-[X] Asuka: Focus on getting free
-[X] Instructions for the JSSDF: Artillery and tank units are to start bombardment on the tail, maintain distance, all other units are to continue to stand by pending developments.
My rational for this is number 1 I don't think it is a good idea to split our offensive power right now, number 2 we need pull Asuka out of the Angels mouth before it completely saws Unit-2s leg off, this will also have the pilots regroup, number 3 is that while it has Asuka in its mouth, the head itself should be vulnerable to the other two coming up on it, who ever gets there first should nullify its AT-field while the other shoots it/ or with Asuka precede to carve it up like a turkey.

Asuka: "I DUNNO THIS GRAB IS ALREADY PRETTY BULLSHIT!"
Gendo: "Hold on, I've never heard of Astiel. Where is this Elden Ring place? When was it attacked?"
Ritsuko: "..."
Part of me wants to have Asuka or someone grab the big ol' centi-kaiju by its ring-head and yeet it over the mountain. Not sure that's practical right now, though; let's call that plan B Q.

Make a post, and then go back and edit it - there'll be a new button labelled "roll dice". It'll ask how many dice you want and how many sides, and it locks them in when they're rolled to prevent cheating.
-[X] Asuka: Focus on neutralizing the AT-Field along its head (Roll 1d100: 28)
-[X] Rei: Go to Asuka's aid
-[X] Shinji: Fire at its tail; maybe he can distract it or do some damage
- [X] Instructions for the JSSDF (write-in): Pull back any close-quarters troops, maintain artillery fire on the tail. Attempt some shots along the body to get a reaction. Move air-mobile forces around to the head and prepare to engage.
You order the JSSDF to pull back and focus on the tail in specific, with few probing shots here and there to see if they can't get it to respond to anything else. You also order the VTOL wing to circle around the mountain to get to the head. The JSSDF says okay, but warns you that getting a clear shot on the tip of the tail is going to be difficult. The smoke and flames from the forest fire below the Angel limits visibility. Indeed, a curtain of dark gray smoke rises from the mountain, making it difficult to see much of anything on the west slope.
You tell Rei to circle around the other end of the mountain and rescue Asuka from the maws of the Angel. Rei hesitates for a moment, seemingly reluctant to leave Shinji to his own devices, before she gives you the affirmative and makes her way over. Meanwhile, you tell Shinji to fire on the tail. Shinji complains he can't see anything through the smoke and fire, but furtively adjusts his position, seeking his target.
Unit-02 clenches its free fist, and Asuka makes a guttural scream as she powers up her AT-Field and begins the process of tearing the Angel's AT-Field apart. She sounds like she's in severe pain. Amazingly, she manages to put up a strong AT-Field. The drawback being that the higher her synchronization ratio goes, the worse the pain will get.
Rei arrives on the scene just as Asuka manages to rip open the Angel's AT-Field. Rei points her Positron Cannon at the side of the Angel's head and squeezes the trigger. The Angel howls and thrashes violently. The sound it makes is an ear-splitting pure tone, like an enormous tuning fork. You reflexively cover your ears, as does most of the bridge. Even Gendo winces.
A great torrent of cloudy black blood bursts from its wound and spills over Asuka's leg. Asuka makes a horrified sound. The shot goes clear through the side of the ring and leaves a ragged exit wound. Unfortunately, this has not loosened its grip on Asuka's leg. Rei fires again, with similar results. Gendo angrily demands someone mute the external audio feed in response. Hyuga complies with a grateful expression.
Asuka shrieks in agony as the Angel manages to completely sever Unit-02's left foot. Ibuki quickly sends commands to Unit-02's neural connections to lower the sync rate. Asuka stumbles backwards and falls on her backside, the end of her left leg spurting blue-violet blood everywhere. Asuka slams her Smash Hawk into the ground in frustration, kicking up a plume of volcanic dust, before attempting to stand.
Rei quickly goes to her side and tries to help her up, but the Angel is poised to strike…before it begins thrashing again. Shinji yells "got it!" over the comms. Seems he's managed to locate and shoot the tail. It's just enough of a distraction to allow Asuka to limp-hop to the side while Rei positions herself between Unit-02 and the Angel.
Shinji yelps in pain, and several alarms go off. The Angel has stung Unit-01. Apparently, Shinji's shot was not enough to destroy the stinger, and it's likely he had to get close to make the shot. Ritsuko rushes over to one of the monitors. Shinji stumbles out of the smoke, Unit-01's hand clutched to its chest. Gendo demands a status report at once. Ritsuko says that the Angel's stinger was able to catch Unit-01's neck. It seems like the stinger was able to puncture the armor there, which is thinner to allow for flexible movement. The effects of the toxin are yet unknown but are likely paralytic in nature.
Rei has 3 shots remaining. Shinji has 3 shots remaining. The unequipped Positron Cannon has 6 shots remaining.
Now what?
