Reaching for the Stars - A Stargate Quest

[X] Plan: Pyramids for Days
-[X] Exploration - Sunken City Planet - SG-1
-[X] Training - SG-2 - Stealth
-[X] Abydos - Humanitarian Aid - 1
-[X] Abydos - Pyramid Investigation - 2
-[X] Abydos - Pyramid Excavation - 5
-[X] Base Improvement - Better Infirmary - 1
-[X] Base Expansion - Geological Survey - 1

Spends less this turn on base-improving things because it's trying to blitz through one of the big objectives on Abydos and get all pyramid-related work done at once. Also tries to finish off humanitarian aid, keep ticking away at our infirmary, and put our new mining engineers to work on the geological survey.

separate from plan:

[X] Take the deal. The Abydonians will expect one planet to evacuate to in return for Denial Jackson joining your command.

Realistically this is probably something we as the thread will end up doing for free anyways. We won't abandon the Abydonians to Apophis, and that means evacuating them. Might as well get another SG-1 member out of it.

@DragonParadox, I agree that Jackson is an arrogant ass, and he's the furthest thing from loyal, but ultimately our goals align so we can work with this. He's the devil we know, and thankfully not all that hard to predict.

As for the leading plan, we need to finish the Infirmary. Same with the Geological Survey. I'd rather invest more into doing these so they're not dragged out over multiple turns. But this is far more true for the infirmary, the sooner that is done the sooner SG-2 is back on their feet, not to mention Teal'c. And once it's done it's a huge buffer in the event of future injuries.

--[X] Stipulate that, with all the best intentions, we cannot give what we do not possess, and the US Space Force has no property on any of these planets. We can at most assist the Abydonians in seeking asylum on whatever planet they choose, or, if no indigenes are initially apparent but show up later, act as mediators.

[X] Reject the deal. Jackson is not as special and valuable as he thinks he is.

I still do not think this guys is worth it and I fear if we give in now that opens the door to both his harebrained ideas and thinking we own planets.

We can turn down other ideas in the future! We didn't promise him a You're Right button. I'm with you on badly behaved geniuses do bad science, but we're not hiring him to be chief science advisor. He's here to be a translator and sometimes an anthropologist.

hmm, I think I've come around on this. Maybe not finishing excavation in exchange for getting the infirmary done a turn or two sooner seems worthy.

Yeah, getting the ability to learn Goa'uld faster is definitely worth some exploring. Especially since we were going to go exploring regardless and we probably want to evacuate them regardless too since leaving them there is a security risk (Daniel at least knows way more about Earth than we'd like the Goa'uld to know). Besides they won't need the entire planet.

Though I do find the misspelling of Daniel's name as 'Denial' funny...

As for the rest trying to grab the knowledge we can use on Abydos while we can sounds good. And We'll need a better base for the long haul anyways.

If we can, we really ought to make room in the plan for symbiont autopsy. Teal'c's intelligence is invaluable, I'm pretty sure a conscious Teal'c is more or less gated behind at least a rudimentary ability to treat Junior, and we're not gonna get better at treating symbionts unless and until we take one apart to see how they work.

Also, take Jackson. He might not be loyal now, but look how he latched onto the Abydonians - make a spot for him and he will be loyal.

I do think we should try to invest in linguists soon so that we're not so reliant on Daniel, though. He's right that he's our best option, but I really don't like that he's our best option.

Alas, linguists are below priority until critical infrastructure is done, so fingers crossed that goes well. :(

We're stuck at 0 available research points this turn. To get symbiont autopsy available our best bet is to invest in the biology labs.

Even with linguists we wouldn't immediatly have people capable of speaking those languages... In many ways the linguists could benefit most from Daniel's presence since having someone who can speak both English and Abydonian/Goa'uld makes their job much easier and will make them useful much quicker.

I don't disagree, Daniel will be an obvious bonus in getting the linguists up to speed.

Would it be possible to do this write-in?

@Azel, is this write-in okay? I know earlier you said if write-ins were allowed you would have offered the option.

Yeah, that's fine. The main question is if Daniel will buy it that you don't intend to Manifest Destiny the whole galaxy.
We couldn't if we wanted to. The only conceivable way to do it would be right of conquest, but that would go to the US Air Force by virtue of their having killed Ra, and we don't want to cede such a chip to our service rivals :V

And I really think he would believe us. We'd be bringing it up unprompted.
