Reaching for the Stars - A Stargate Quest

[x] Take the mining and bunker specialists. Expanding Cheyenne Mountain and potentially setting up mining operations off-world would be massive boons.

As a bonus they can also dig holes on other planets... say ones looking for precious metals, mundane and SF.

I have no problem with the mining engineers winning but my heart lies elsewhere. Diplomacy is one of our primary strengths, and worth reinforcing.

[X] Have the civilian engineers transferred. While not immediately useful, their expertise will be useful long-term and their services could be a great bargaining chip in negotiations with other polities.

ETA: I think this is also the engineering team it will be hardest for us to find substitutes for, while we already have one ambitious combat engineer hanging around our staff and excavations will have to be figured out regardless.

I was wondering, since we kept Sam on staff rather than in the field, does she give boni to any projects or research?

No, but she is much more likely to be present when you dial a black hole, infest the computer systems with an alien AI or need a sun blown up on short notice. Her skills will also become more relevant later on, but right now your research staff and laboratories are really anemic.

The XM5 is probably a pretty nice boost. Its designed to take on body armour and allow longer range engagements. Seems like something ideal for the SGC basically increasing one of the advantages over Jaffa weapons, while also countering their armor, to an extent.

I want those base upgrades.

Fema can develop a evacuation plan for Abydos, because i can not see a way how we could defend against orbital attacks in the time we have

I am tempted by the civilian engineers, but at some point inquiries after their presence will be made that may not be made of a comparatively low-demand ACoE team.

her agency did not actually run any Top Secret black sites

Given that in this timeline the Space Force's biggest installation is a bunker under a mountain and its greatest military asset is a special forces platoon, it stands to reason that the black sites are actually operated by, I don't know, the Bureau of Fish and Wildlife or something.

Base expansion seems like a good option to invest in since right now our logistical capabilities are really hampered by our base location. If we come across a world where people are not living right next to the gate we'd never find out since we can only send out people on foot.

Also they should be useful for mining and excavations. And right now excavations are a pretty high priority since we want to clear out the pyramid as quickly as possible and some of it is buried.

Yeah we need these guys.

We need the mining engineers for naquadah. In contrast the civil engineers are comparatively useless; unfortunately the best allies are high-tech allies that don't need that kind of help.

The best ally is one that stays in your corner when midden has struck windmill. I can see the wisdom in asking for civilian engineers-- not only do they have capabilities we want to continue giving aid to Abydos and other planets we come across, we have a lot of odd jobs and capabilities we need to build and civilian engineers can definitely help with that.

That said, I picked mining and bunkers because we can, unfortunately, only pick one, and fuuuuck knows we have to build an army from scratch-- and any defensive army worth its salt needs ditches entrenched positions.

For now the mining and bunker engineers are the best ones to get because we need to improve high command ASAP. Those improvements make literally every other action we take more effective.

Civilian engineers are relevant, notably, to setting up our own outposts and infrastructure, not just humanitarian work for other civs. They're not a trap option, just a long term investment in a different area than the diggers.

I don't think we really need to belabor it when the vote is running 14:2 for the mining engineers with no signs of shifting, though.

Nobody's saying they're a trap option, just that we have a pretty clear immediate need.
