[X] Talk about something specific with your friends during the meal!
-[X] Ask Mariko how she knows so much about science.
-[X] Ask Kishi if she could build a rocket ship, and take you all to space.
-[X] Begin a totally serious discussion of what you'd do on the moon.
All five of you dig into your meals almost as soon they are laid before you. You're somewhat disappointed to discover that the portions are smaller than in your mainstay burger place. Them being more aesthetically pleasing does not make up for that! Substance above all when it comes burgers, if someone asks you.
Unfortunately nobody does, and you think complaining about hamburgers would just be too awkward to bring up on your own. They're not even that bad on their own, if you're being honest with yourself. But once you go AMERIKAN, there's no going back.
So instead, your mind harkens back to the museum trip you just had, and everything you experienced there. It was a lot of fun to be able to visit such a place, and it would be amazing to visit it again once they change the main exhibition again. Your friends would probably like it too! Mariko most of all…
Come to think of it, Mariko did seem genuinely happy about visiting the museum. Not to mention she was already quite knowledgeable about the topic of science.
"Say, Mariko?" you ask, drawing the girl's attention to yourself.
"I kind of noticed this in the museum, and… well, how do you know so much about science?"
Looking somewhat surprised, Mariko hastily gulps down her last bite of the hamburger before answering.
"Uh, I-I don't really know that much... I've just read our school books through and participated in the school's science club."
She might have mentioned that club membership earlier, now that she mentions it. Guess you forgot? Also, it's not like she narrated every single exhibit there, just some of them.
"Hmm, I don't recall reading much of that in the books, though."
"...I assure you, it's all there," Mariko deflects the probe and takes another quick bite of her hamburger.
"It's not like they presented much rocket science here."
You nod at that. Physics, math, and chemistry may as well be witchcraft to you, pun totally not intended! That in turn may be partly because of your lackluster motivation to do anything besides the mandatory homework. Maybe you should read the books a bit more closely the next time? You might actually understand something.
But besides that…
"Oh, and speaking of rocket science!" you announce brightly, memories of the short space film returning to you.
"Kishi, do you think you could, build a rocket ship and take us all to space?" Think of the great adventures up there!
The girl nearly spits out her drink at the suggestion and is left wildly coughing out the soda.
"I-I, uh… I-I don't think so?" she stutters out in panic.
"I-I mean, I'm no rocket scientist, b-but I know a rocket is a very complicated machine. H-how would I even do that?"
"...With magic?" you weakly suggest the first thing coming to your mind.
"I… don't think it works that way," Evelyn says and pats you on the back.
"My dad works as an engineer, and he occasionally says that rocket science is up there in difficulty among science fields. I'm sorry to say this, but I don't think you'll be going to space anytime soon."
"It's pretty much that, sorry…" Mariko adds.
That's what they claim! You'll show them, you'll just need to find a way to get there, with or without a space rocket! In fact, you can just… well, you're drawing a blank here. Maybe you could use your jump boosts to get there? But that would only work for a short time and you're not really comfortable with falling such heights.
Plus, spaceships are just so awesome!
"I-it's okay, you'll get to space one day," Kishi attempts to reassure you, while patting you on the back from your other side.
"Yeah! And the first step is going to be the Moon!" Ariane chimes in.
Your ears perk up at that.
"Oh! What do you think should we do on the Moon then?" you ask with a wide grin.
"The stars would look very different there, for one thing!"
"W-well, Moon has only one sixth of Earth's gravity?" Mariko says.
"That means you can jump really high there."
"Ooh, so it's like an enormous trampoline?" Ariane asks with clear wonder in her voice.
"W-well not exactly-" Kishi stutters out, but is interrupted by a smirking Evelyn.
"Beware, though, you can totally fly off if you jump too high! And then nobody will find you in the vast space!"
"That's silly! There's no way that could happen," Ariane attempts to protest, but you can see some uncertainty appear on her face.
"Right?"
Now that you think of it, you might actually end up flying off if you attempted to jump there with your jump boosts… When go to the Moon, you'll need to be super-extra careful not to do that.
"No, you're not going to just fly off by jumping," Mariko explains.
"Although, I hope you don't have a fear of heights. And that you bring the oxygen bottles, because there's no air on the Moon."
"Well, we can all just hold our breaths long enough, right?" you joke.
"...This is just awkward."
"Or just use a snorkel! Those always help, right?" Evelyn playfully adds, obviously enjoying the silly, unfeasible ideas.
"I'd kind of like to try out running on moon, though. It must feel so weird, having your hair flow in the low gravity wind!"
"Ugh, that's not… just… Arghhh..." Mariko groans and buries her face in her hands.
"I-isn't it rude to listen in, though?"
"Speaking of snorkels, I wonder if there are also good beaches there?" Ariane merrily adds, catching onto the game.
"...No."
"I can't help it..."
"Hey! Maybe we could be the first ones to discover what's on the dark side of the Moon?" you suggest.
"I mean, that's got all the ingredients of a high adventure there!"
"I once saw a movie that had the Nazis build a secret base there," Evelyn muses.
"So maybe we can find the legendary gold they hid then?"
"Guys, please no…"
