"TAMIKO!!!" you see Kishi's face appear from your side watching you with wide eyes. She seems sad... She is openly crying, "T-T-Tamiko.. p-please, s-say something... A-anything!!!"
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry..."
That's either the girl we rescued (less likely I think, since she was contract-age and from Tamiko's school, probably just a meguca that witched out) or Ariane, apologizing for having a lackluster showing.

[x] Attempt to heal self.
[x] Talk to Kishi.
-[x] we're still alive, it hurts but we'll be okay.
-[x] especially since Kishi is there.
[x] Talk to Ariane
-[x] We're okay.

The more meguca working on the healing, the less magic is used. Kishi's healing is good on her, because robits, but pretty poor on squishy humies.

The witch was badass, as a magical girl, she must have been a beast.

Prepare yourselfs, Kishi is going to sad, Ariane is going to be depressed, the guards of her father must have seen the fight...and they are going to report to him...Meguca life is harsh yo.

Ziz, I do feel you should tone down the witch mods a bit. They were getting pretty ridiculous. The way this witch was built, on top of the narrative endurance someone was getting murderized here no matter what we did. And that's a problem.

Narratively this was pretty suspenseful. Gameplay wise this made the fight very aggravating to participate in.

Oh without question, narratively it looked great. Just the way that the dice was handled here, the fight was largely out of our hands. And that's frustrating.
thus why I dislike use of dice for combat in anything but the vaguest sense.

in other news, can we make a magic prosthetic for now like we did before?

Oh I agree. There's another Worm quest that recently headed away from dice use in social situations because of a similar affect; we simply didn't have control over what happened. This story in general doesn't have the problem with social situations, but it's "make it double" for combat.

I do tend to put a bit high numbers on the witches when the difficulty ratings get up... I assume you'd rather like to see the bonuses smaller as a general rule then, and compensate with some following:
- Stronger witches gain more beneficial and advantageous barrier layouts and/or more useful familiars.
- Stronger witches gain more useful abilities (reach, stealth etc.)
- Even higher bonuses would be more of a defining thing, for example as armor or offensive capabilities, rather than the norm.
Because that kind of thing could be implemented, if you guys would like? It would make witch design a bit lengthier and abstract, but should be workable enough. Not to mention it should alleviate the dependency on rolls somewhat.

Also, to explain, difficulty mostly affects those base bonuses and more importantly the witch's ability to take hit. The abilities of each individual witch are usually somewhat heedless of such numbers (see 8/100 Lilibeth and poison bullshit). I am actually going to scale down the general endurance factors of witches regardless after going over the phases of this fight, though. It should alleviate some future frustration at least.

Well, to note another thing, no one technically had to get murderized. Amelia was way more brutal than this one offensively, but you got off light and massacred her by clever use of the barrier (read: avoiding direct combat) and just a single lucky roll rather than several. Here your tactics were mostly a three-to-one slugfest, although not really a bad one (I should probably think about nerfing force bubble).

Does any of that make any sense?

So basically instead of being clever we did things the hard way and got spooked by how hard it was. Is that what you're saying?
Kind of... I acknowledge that there is a problem with the modifiers being the rating for difficulty now that it was brought to my attention. And the witches' ability to take damage is probably too high, at least from what I gathered at the effects it has on the progression of fights.

But you also could have benefited from a less direct approach, yes.

Witch Card: Amanda
Amanda
Amanda is the music box witch with a self-centered nature. She wholly believes that her performance is without flaws, and expects all visitors to show their undivided adoration for her. New audience is brought before her to get the best seats to the show. Those who applaud her have their hands cut off to join the ranks of her familiars, while those who evoke her fury will either get killed or be forced to dance to her whims until their bodies rot away. Amanda's familiar is called Thomas, a pair of hands who exists to shower her in attention.

Also, witch card!

Even in your disconcerted state of mind you realize that you probably can heal yourself a bit with your magic. At least it should help Kishi if nothing else... It takes every ounce of your willpower to move your right, the still usable, arm on top of your chest. The white replacements for the damaged tissue are still present, glowing faintly in the shade of the room.
You screwed up...
At the same time, Kishi pushes her glowing hands firmly on your abdomen with more force than probably necessary, making you wince at the new wave of pain rippling through you. Her crying doesn't cease in the slightest as she starts mending your body together, heedless of anything else.

Your thoughts start clearing a bit as the healing starts, enough to realize that she isn't in her right state of mind. Concerned, you panickedly try to talk to her, tell her some.
All this is your fault...
Only a cough of blood comes out. Right, you should probably use telepathy...

'I-I'm alive... K-KIshi... i-it hurts...' you begin, and a short wail escapes Kishi as she suddenly looks at your face with wide eyes. She is shaking, and you force yourself to continue before she can say anything.
They suffer because of you,
'B-but I'll be... okay...' you smile weakly and close your eyes for a second, getting your focus away from the pain, 'a-after all...' you raise your shakily moving left arm, and press it softly on Kishi's cheek, 'a-and especially since... you're here with me.'

As if something had gotten stuck in her throat, Kishi lets out a sob at that and stammers out, "P-p-please don't... p-please don't joke about t-things like this! I-I... I c-can't... l-lose-"
and you are better to them dead...
She can't bring herself to finish the sentence as she drops her head, unable to look at you. You let her be, and reach out to Ariane to reassure her too, 'A-Ariane... Don't worry... I-I'll be okay.'

You hear faint, strained sound of her voice across the room. She attempts to talk back, but seems unable to do that ad shifts to telepathy too, 'B-b-but... how can you say that? Y-you... T-there's blood everywhere, and...'

'I-I can make it... I-I have my friends here after all...' Ariane falls silent at your answer. You turn your head a bit to see it. Ariane is leaning against a round concrete pillar, curled into a ball as she desperately hugs her legs and stares at you. You try to smile at her reassuringly, but she just averts her gaze, muttering 'I'm sorry' repeatedly under her breath.

Your thoughts seem to have cleared quite a bit by now, and you seem to be able to move the muscles of your torso again, even if it hurts a lot. You take the chance to raise your head to check your Soul Gem quickly, just in case.

Tamiko grief: 1037/2000
It may be better to cleanse now... You take a quick look around, but don't find the one dropped by this witch next to you. Only trinket is Kishi's Soul Gem laying on the floor, its bottom facing towards you.
You can see only black swirling inside it...
You'll have to use the almost filled one then. You take off your right arm, and bring out the seed, pressing it against your Gem. Being in pain you don't really get to enjoy the feeling of your worries being drained away, but the seed starts flashing aggressively as it becomes over-charged...

What do you do?

[x] Telepathy Kishi: Kishi stop! You need to cleanse!
[x] Try to throw away the seed.
[x] Also, contact Mr. Kyubey to take it.
[x] Have Ariane quickly get the recently defeated witch's grief seed and give it to Kishi for cleansing.
[x] Continue healing.
[x] After that is complete, de-transform.
[x] Talk with Kishi/Ariane.
-[x] Are you okay? What happened to the other girl?
-[x] Apologize for getting yourself hurt.
[x] Hug the two of them.

I think we need to bring Ariane closer to us, i want to see how much grief she has in her soul gem, also Kishi, she sounds like she is going grief spiral. Also after healing i want to hug them, to assure Ariane and Kishi that we are alright. Also what happened to the girl that was dancing ?

Edit: Ube you are awesome.

Does anyone else has a seed to spare for Kishi? Because...

If Ariane can't find the grief seed lets use our soul gem and take a bit of Kishi grief, like Madoka did once with Homura.
