It would probably be a good idea to target the lovers with 9 HP first then hit WH itself to hopefully get the damage to the 1 HP guy (with the leftovers hopefully going towards WH) and then either wake up mao or try going all in on killing the weeping heartstrings

BTW, you mentioned a while back that we'd be "Thankful that we bagged Vic before the phase change", what fresh horror did we dodge by that?

He'd either get completely subsumed into Weeping Heartstrings, giving them a buff that'd make everyone generally a bit harder to kill when facing you specifically, or he'd get buffed and fight instead of standing around like the GMs and BMs. Either or. Since he was killed, I didn't get/have to pick or think out the details too far/onto paper.

I mean, wouldn't we need to take 4 turns or so taking out the GM/BM anyway? If that's the case, I'd much rather spend the buff making sure we can avoid damage while waking up Mao, since we'll probably be able to one shot all of the mooks with or without the buff anyway. We can't hit WH with the buff in the first place since that would distribute damage to Mao.

@SoothingCoffee If we attacked the WP and the reflected attack did more than enough damage to kill the last mook, would there be any spillover on WP? Like, if we hit for 10 damage and the last Lover had 1 HP, would the remaining 9 hit WP?

Isn't the issue that Mao will take overflow damage as long as any Lovers are still up? Or is that just me misreading it. Because shifting to attack Weeping Heartstrings when he doesn't have enough mooks left to survive our onslaught might be a good play as a ghetto way of doing AoE.

(Man, I want some AoE right now)

I had the same idea of leaving the weakest Lover for last before committing to an overflow attack, but remember, if Mao isn't awake and there are still Lovers on the field–

–Beaten to the punch by Birthday, but yes, attacking the Weeping Heartstrings first has the least benefits because all the damage you do to him to get the Lovers killed by overflow grants him +1 CR for each and hurts Mao too. Getting an overload shot with the 1/20 Fixer on the field after Mao's up could be a good gamble with only one death boost granted instead of four, but otherwise Mao being awake while the Seed Buff is still in play is better functioning, especially since it'd spare her extra SAN Loss.

Why are people trying to keep one of the lovers alive? Shouldn't we just kill all them asap as we can? Like overflow damage or not there's no benefit to intentionally leaving an enemy alive to kill via Moon's damage redirect. In fact it's kind of bad since it buffs Moon. Also not sure Lily will be able to one shot the lovers without the +7 damage buff cause they're going to be a little chonky.

Yeah, killing the lovers should be our first move, mostly because leaving them alive is a detriment, but also because an extra 20 HP would be useful earlier in the fight since we'll need to tank for Mao when she wakes up. Fortitude is the aggro stat so I'm not too worried about WP going after her, not after Lily spat on his face and murdered his Grooms.

One of the Lovers has 1 HP, so hitting Moon to do damage to him while only losing one blip of it to Till Death do Us Apart (Phase 2) means not having to use an extra turn on overkill, which could mean one less turn of distractions/Moon's attacks.

This, of course, is only the case if Mao is awake and PUNisher's question:

Is answered in affirmative.

Edit:

Like, the main thing here is that the only way Lily's gonna get a shot at Moon while the +7 is added to her attack without hurting Mao (both of which have a Round 5 deadline) is if we leave Mao to wake up on her own (and lose 1 Sanity for 5 Turns) while killing the Lovers, preferably one of the four per turn so Round 5 is safe for the Moon Smash, or waking Mao up by Round 3 to kill two Lovers in one turn and then go for Moon while Mao kills the last 9 HP Lover so that (theoretically) the big buffed attack only loses 1 damage hurting Moon while also killing his last Lover, the main primary factors are whether we give up more of Mao's SAN, the chance to damage Moon while we're boosted, or let him get +1 to Combat Rolls.

If we can make a style plan that lets Lily kill two Lovers in a turn, that'd solve these three factors ably, so we'll see if that manages to work out. Otherwise it's about choosing your preferred compromise.

A lot to go over but I will stick to the voting plans for now.

Yeah, Moon is the worst target to go for here. Any damage we do to him does unmitigated damage to his lackeys, which is a bad thing in this case. Every ally that dies this way buffs Moon and it hurts Mao as well. Killing all the lackeys will allow us to actually hurt Moon and saves Mao from taking damage at the same time.

The only hitches in this scenario are waking up Mao, which Lily is safe while trying to do that because of an 11 Armor Resist (She can not block she does lose out on an extra 4 from her skill), and is Mao safe from any more Sanity damage after waking up. If Mao enters Hate mode, she will be mostly fine. If not, we have problems.

Of course, there is another issue. Waking up Mao and her not being in Hate mode assumes she is going to be attacked while awake and she would be safe if not, what I am worried about is Moon trying to drain her Sanity while she is still asleep and we are dealing with the Lovers. It is a gamble either way to me but I think I want to lean towards waking up Mao because I do not trust Moon to not try something.

Lily taking an active role in waking up Mao might affect if she enters Hate mode or not, but that is just a guess of mine.

[Ego Check: Medium. Pass.]

And they're not getting the fuck away with it!
Ego will never forgive the other abilities for fucking up so hard till now.

Ego has had enough of bullshit.

That was a close one, but we're back in business! Now we should pop the iron pill just in case.
"What was your Grade?"

Mom blinks. She looks at you – opens her mouth, and then closes it, a complicated expression on her face. "Flower, darling, I wasn't a Fixer."
Hold on?
"We could've been the one to do that, to teach you instead," Mom mutters. "I…" she starts, then trails off, looking down to her hand. To your hand. "I failed. As Mother, as Warrior, as Fixer," there's a twitch in the corner of her lips; self-deprecating. "I can only imagine how she would react. I talked big game too…"

Maybe she used to be a Fixer but fucked up and left the profession? And her current one is whatever weird shit she did that got her in her half-dead state.

I had a thought. Lily ribbon!senses that Kai is upset and distracted. And with the encounter with Iris, she's a little more honest with her affection with those she likes. She approaches Kai, whose ribbon!sense just tells her to brace herself, and headbutts her before asking whats wrong.

I.e Lily doles out affection through her most honest medium which is through getting physical.

Fund it. This is cute. I like this.

Pretty much how a cat comes to show and demand affection. By headbutting things.

I guess that would explain why Lily is in such a shitty apartment but still it feels off how it was presented.

Okay, rundown on what I see happening in these votes.
[] Tickle the Sleeping Cat. Wastes 3 turns of Seven Seed, but Mao's up and able to try to not become a Bridesmaid.
[] Take those Grinning Fuckers Out. We take a bunch of 'em down, but then the Weeping Heartstrings is free to make Mao into a minion. Very, very traumatizing - especially since we'd HAVE to kill her as a result. (We also lose out on Victor's Office as a source of possible future support.)
[] Kill This Motherfucker. Weeping Heartstrings gets a bunch of buffs, but might be distracted from Mao. High-risk, high reward - all dependent on if it tries to keep its minions alive. (Lily as a character would probably choose this one.)

My opinion? We need to think out of the box.

I'm confused, what ever happened to the swarm/group enemies having shared hp instead of being individual? I thought that was the case earlier when we were fighting them before moon put us to sleep.

Also taking all of the votes instead of the highest one was a 10/10 move, love this quest.

Yeah that's why I made a plan about baiting Moon to focus on us while we clear out the lovers since that leaves Mao unmolested and even if Moon hits us uhhh lol between our damage resist and temp HP.

Welp I love this. With the power of Familial Bonds and Wholesomeness Roland & Lily won't be as broken as Canon (to LoR & PoGeD)... Though unfortunately for Angela If Roland can get over his Trauma/Anger with Lily's help she isn't gonna get her Redemption/Therapy. F for Angela W for Roland & Lily.
Jesus... That was great as usual SC... I think waking Mao up is the best thing to do. Specifically cause of the

Angela gets Kai as her new therapy method, sorry but them's the rules. Something something buttetfly effect something something equivalent exchange.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

ok. ok. So: Mao's not doing great. We only have 5 turns of ULTRA FUCKBLAST left. Mao may not go into hate mode at all, and probably wont do so immediately (though she might if she sees WP attacking lily). 5 sp is better than 3, but I don't know how much better than 3. If Mao wakes up, WP might prioritize her, and I don't think 5 sp is enough to stave WP off. I don't know about how good the logistics of fuckblasting one mook, then waking up mao? she'd only wake up one turn earlier, but we *do* still wake her up early, and we get WP's attention from killing a mook, which could keep WP off mao, but then we're basically just wasting three turns. As far as "but you got the gut feelin' that you gotta wake her." goes, I think its flavor for why lily would do that over ULTRA FUCKBLASTing the mooks, and not actual instruction.

Ok. Typing that out. I think the best way to protect mao is to, ironically, ignore her - and try and make WP ignore her, as well. I get the feeling that lily is valuable enough to mao to make her the catalyst for hate mode (since I do think mao has some way to enter hate mode), and until she gets into hate mode, she's honestly a liability with san that low. So, taking out the mooks.

also the 1 hp mook is the perfect chance to beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker. He's only got the 1 hp, after all. Its time to make our dreams a reality!

ED: also we can use the one spare turn we may get from using 4 of our 5 turns fuckblasting to heal mao with an iron pill, since as mentioned before she's pretty close to an hp bracket we don't want her to hit. Using that turn to deal a huge hit to WP is very tempting, especially since it would go even further towards keeping their attention on lily, and if it is ideally mao won't need to take hits...

finished reading

Definitely either go for the Brides & Groom, or spend 3 turns waking up Mao

While there's no guarantee that Mao would get the To Hate, and To Abhor status upon waking up, I think there's still a better chance for her to receive that while awake.

Meanwhile targeting the mooks is just more beneficial than Weeping Heartstrings since attacking the latter just hurts Mao all the same. I personally think the boss would focus-target Lily during the first few rounds while Mao is still asleep, so I think going for this option may be better to do first all while taking advantage of our 7-seed buff, but I do get the worry of Mao being vulnerable in her state.

So really, it's just a matter of which one do we do first, kill mooks or wake Mao up, 'cause we definitely want to do the other option next before we fight the boss.

...so this was a hell of a place to catch up with the quest

Honestly if I'm reading these mechanics right, waking Mao should be a priority given it gives Lily two turns of having an actual all

Also

Why the fuck is Lily not augmented yet?

This is an urban plague

we should be dead.

good gear and consumables isnt gonna cut it after this point
