[X] Live And Let Live. You'll promise to let her live. You can get information about Blake, this entire scheme thing, his plans. It's not really important, you suppose, in the grand scheme of thing, but let's face it, so's letting her live or die.

Mercy is for the strong, because only the strong can afford to let an enemy who knows their strengths, and maybe even their weaknesses, free. Free to plan, free to act, free to get revenge. And maybe even free to make peace to simply give up on their hate. As is the Nature of The City.

I want the info and I'm not sure Lily could lie about whether or not they plan to kill them. Also not sure I want Lily to be the kind of person that kills them after saying they wouldn't

An errant wondering, @SoothingCoffee :
As Lily and Kai climb the ranks of Fixerdom (assuming both are still a duo/partners), will we still remain by Scarecrow Office or go with other Fixer Offices and meet faces old and new?
It's likely something that won't be seeing for a long while, but wanted to ask due to curiosity.

Cause admittedly having trouble seeing Lily joining an Association proper, ahaha

I'm not gonna commit and say no, but I will say that there is no plan in my draft about changing Offices.

I see I see, thanks for answering!
And hmhmm, makes sense -- this way it's easier and invested for Lily (and in extention, us) to know the other members of the Office better.
I suppose much of newer faces will be done in the face of our jobs and off-hour nonsense, heheh.

[Repression Check: Hard (9) – 4 + 2 = 6. Fail.]

Ouch. Thats rough.

If she's not a threat anymore then she is not a threat. If Lilly was being honest with herself about not being the type to kill for the thrill of it, then there is no point in killing her now. Besides, this is a much simpler choice then the last person we spared, I doubt this one is gonna come back to try and kill us later.

Man seeing those failed repression and ego checks really hurt.

They rolled two 12s on that swarm attack? Geez, that hurt like hell. Not a scratch on us, but still.

Couple exceptions aside, they're all part/voice of Lily's consciousness. She's aware of them in as much as you're aware of your own musings. She doesn't talk to them, basically, because she's not actually insane. For the most part.

In any case, if Imma break it down, Fortitude is Lily's stubborn and bloodthirsty part, so there's a bit of a theme happening. Prudence the Clinical part, Temperance the Bleeding Heart on Sleeve, while Justice the Voice of Reason.

If I am going to anthro them, Melee is the psycho in Lily, while Endurance is the Peptalk-giving Coach.

Well, you nailed the bloodthirsty part. Melee felt like it was having the time of its life. It makes sense that Melee is the psycho considering all the other combat skills avoid fighting directly while Melee is reveling in the carnage.

Endurance is stubborn and the drive to get back up and get back into the game. Ego seems to be...pride? No, confidence in one's self. Justice remains hard to standardize as usual. Repression seems to be able to put down others and, on a failed check, Lily herself.

Instinct though... Instinct is bloody weird. This update we have it yelling whatever the hell "Dootz" is, followed immediately by then it coldly proclaiming bloodshed is a core part of who Lily is. Meanwhile, in a previous update, we have it watching our back, looking out for where people and dangers are. Do not get me started on the ability to pick up scenes happening around the City.

While the comparison to Shivers has been made, I think there is a good deal of Half-Light in there.

Yeah instinct sounds like it'd be a pretty straightforward deal, but it isn't. It is a lot more complex than It seems at first glance. Absolutely getting weird vibes from it, which I suppose is ironically fitting.

[X] Death To All.

One rat breeds twenty more. That said, I'd rather not be the kind of person who has to break their word.

Because it's not about honor, though it does matter a bit- this nice feeling in your heart.
It's not about seeing value in her life- she's a rat. We killed a lot of those and we don't care. Not really.
At the end of the day, the 5 HP she would provide just don't compare to knowing what is going on in Blake's stolen brain.

Also, you know- good advertisement. "Give us your shit and you'll live!" is good value when their life matters so little to us.

@SoothingCoffee

This quest is going to take forever if we really follow Lily and Kai's journey to their rise in the Fixer ranks. Are there going to be timeskips at least?

I mean, with the way things are going with the pacing and the speed of the chapter updates...

Why rush? Personally I've been enjoying the pacing of the story so far.

Remember, this is a month or so before canon starts(not sure of the exact timeline). I suspect things will start getting more hectic when that starts up.

My experience of seeing so many good quests just stop updating suddenly before getting into more interesting parts kinda coloured my vision in regard to these things...

Like that odd Fixer Quest posted here in SV last April...

It just died before it really got somewhere.

Good to know!

:D

Yeahh...
Especially with this in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if one of our seemingly "standard" jobs suddenly escalates due to someone Distorting and we'd be finding Lily trying to bash it off with the Knockbar.
Thanks to WN&DD, life in the City has certainly gotten more, err, "exciting."

Omake: A Snippet of H Nest (Potential Request?)
Here's a little something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Various forms of media were consumed daily by the Feathers of H Nest. Everyone had their own preferences and bias to which ones were memorable but only a select few had the honour of being renowned CIty-wide.

Some examples of those special few were:
  • Endless Smoke was a documentary that depicted the Smoke War and used first-hand accounts from Fixers on both sides of the war. The tales of heroics and those of desperation were captured as stunning reenactments that allowed its viewers to finally witness what Fixers could be capable of. The true Singularity of that fallen Wing still remains unknown and remained the target of speculation.
  • The podcast, Guiding Hands, tried to uncover the history behind each Finger and what allowed them to become so powerful. It was initially dismissed as fictional nonsense until events that only the Fingers themselves were privy to were discussed on air. To this very day, the bounty on this individual still stands unclaimed.
  • The last stream of Havok, a 2nd Grade H Corp Fixer, as he scored a mutual kill on the Distortion known as Forget-Me-Not. The Distortion (a being who held the rank of Star of The City) was invisible to the senses of anyone within a certain radius and so Havok relied upon the instructions and callouts given by his viewers. It is estimated that viewers donated roughly 450 million Ahn during his final moments as he called his son.
  • The TV series, District Delights, was a cooking show that focused upon showcasing the culinary skills of chefs from every District (District 1 was excluded for obvious reasons). The infamous District 23 episode was heavily censored when it aired in all Wings save for W Corp and H Corp. An interview conducted with Chef Ramsey at the time revealed that 'the ingredients were too raw' and 'that he could still taste the filth the Rats ate'.
Your studio was merely one amongst the ever-growing list of media producers. Unfortunately for the studio, the dream of creating such a masterpiece was an impossibility. You could barely afford the rent of the buildings, the Wing/Head taxes and the wages of your employees.

You needed a hit to tide you over. Not a small film, not enough funds for that. Maybe a mini TV series? It had to be something that grabbed the attention of the viewers and held it until the episode ended. Fixers definitely grabbed people's attention especially those who lived in Wings. Too many damn shows at the moment featured Fixers so how do you differentiate from the rest? It had to be something people didn't normally associate with Fixers. Actually, you needed Fixers in the first place before continuing on that train of thought. Maybe-

"Boss Man, Hailey's on the phone again! Wants to speak with you about the delivery next week!"

Of all the-

That stupid, pompous assho-

"They were a delightful bunch, that pair of Fixers! All I had to do was let out a crass or crude comment and they squirmed! The blonde looked like cave my face in but thankfully she did that those pesky Rats instead!"

A memory of an old conversation resurfaced. Well, technically it was Hailey recounting his misadventures during his vacation while you stewed in silence.

Still though... Fixers escorting a Nest Dweller? It wouldn't be as exciting as it sounds. You needed something to spice it up...

Sighing, you pick up the phone and quickly cut off Hailey. "Hailey, before we get on with business do you still happen to remember the Fixer Office you hired?".

"Oh? Whatever for? Looking for inspiration in the Backstreets?"

"I have something of an idea..."

Wanted to write something about Rats gossiping about Lily and Kai taking down the Jugglerz and the possible aftermath of the Rat King fiasco but somehow did this instead. :sour:

Nice!

I kinda wish omakes and short stories have some bonuses and incentives so people will more stuff.
