He's less well-known outside of the army as it is not as glamorous a deed as the capture of Fort Ticonderoga up north, but he still received a decent amount of praise in the papers
Benny! I will do everything I can to make that bastard gates get what's coming to him and prevent you from turning traitor if I can. America shall not be deprived of a magnificent field commander if I can help it.

A certain George Washington has taken note of him
Thank god, maybe we can help prevent the disasterous 1776 season and turn it into a triumph!

The British don't know about him all that well, though, and assume that General Artemas Ward was the one who masterminded the majority of the operation.
Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake!

Jonathan is now a Major in the Army of Observation; as such, he now receives thirty colonial currency per month.
Jonathan: now if only this damn money was worth anything!

Due to his constant drilling, the Army of Observation loses a hidden malus of -10 to all Battle rolls for the duration of the Siege of Boston.

Due to the lack of supplies and the routing of many foraging parties, the British suffer a -15 malus to all Battle rolls for the duration of the Siege of Boston
Holy fuck.

This is huge. Even with the mistakes that Gage made during that time, he was still incredibly well supplied and morale was good. And defeated the irregulars on many an occasion.

This means we might actually defeat the regulars in open combat in Boston.

That might bring the French in early.
I'm starting to learn that more people watched Liberty's Kids than I initially thought, lol
ABC had it on every Saturday at 7 in the morning for ten years before I got YouTube to watch it there.

Yes.

Revolutionary Fun Fact – Dr. Joseph Warren, one of the more important Founding Fathers, was commissioned as a Major General. Not content with this, however, Dr. Warren made his way to the Siege of Boston and asked that he join the Army of Observation as a private. Though the generals initially protested, Warren had his way and joined the fight at Breed's Hill, which would later be known as the Battle of Bunker Hill.

He would die there, a martyr for the American Revolution
That's not a fun fact that just makes me sad

Benedict Arnold really reads as a tragic figure the more you get into his history.

Jonathan: now if only this damn money was worth anything!
Fortunately, you got Stewardship as your highest stat. ;)

This means we might actually defeat the regulars in open combat in Boston.
Possibly, but I wouldn't really consider the Battle of Bunker Hill open combat. Open combat would be something like Brandywine or Monmouth, and as I said in the results, you'll still probably lose in such engagements.

Bunker Hill, though...

[Canon] RealOtto: The Military Battles of the Day, Night Three
The Military Battles of the Day, Part 3

Entering the tent, the tired but satisfied Officer enters. He huffs out a breath of air and stretches the soreness of his back and limbs from a hard day's drilling along with his fellow friends in the Camp.

Stretching the soreness of his back, he turns his sights to his messy desk. This time however, less messy with less books and pieces of information from those books unavailable until further notice.

He frowns at that, but he shrugs it away. He walks to the front of his trunk, he'd have another quick look around to see if there are any remaining books on the topic of the Thirty Years War, or hopefully any other time periods he could glean inspiration and material to learn from just like how he learned a lot from examining the information from the Second Punic War.

With nothing else on his mind, he crouches down to open it. Seeing other objects, paper, and books here and there he begins to search through it in hopes of attaining something new he can read from.

Shuffling through the amount of items inside, while placing books on the Second Punic War at the side, he would only find two books with one of them having what looks to be a note at the top of it. Taking a closer look at the letter, he quickly pulled out the book containing as he can recognize the handwriting of his father on it.

He places the book with the letter in it on the desk, pulling it out of the book, and starts reading it.

Dear Son,

I have brought you a simple token of a gift for your birthday.

Took me a lot of favors overseas, but I see it to be a necessary gift if what I think your action would be once arriving with the caravan to the encampment. If not, look and read through it as if it were a hobby. You'll never know when you need the knowledge from it.

Sincerely,
Roger Halbert

Johnathan smiles as he reads through the letter, of course dear old dad would predict his intention to join the Army of the Observation. Although come to think of it, he didn't exactly hide such plans and he wondered if his dad was listening when reading the morning mail.

Backing away from those thoughts he turns his attention to the book that the letter came with, and scrunches his face as he reads the title of the book.

"Military Instructions." He mutters to himself as his eyes widened as he read the authorship of the book.

"By Frederick the Great." He places his thumb on the front cover, whipping it in wonder as his thoughts bring to what he knows of the man.

"Prussian King, known for the Prussian participation of the Seven Years War back in Europe." He thinks out loud as he sits down on the chair.

"So-called Enlightened Monarch." Johnathan shakes his head, it does not matter much to you as the Prussians are back in Europe, not in the 13 Colonies or anywhere near them. He would've heard from dad or the University if they were some kind of colonial power in the Americas.

Jonathan flips open the book, and would look at the list of articles it has to offer. From the first article about the Prussian troops, to the last mentioning instructions on the matter of Winter Campaigns. Having nothing else to do but read out of a sense of wonder at how a recent Monarch would advise readers in military command.

"The strictest care and the most unremitting attention are required of commanding officers in the formation of my troops. The most exact discipline is ever to be maintained, and the greatest regard paid to their welfare; they ought also to be better fed than almost any troops in Europe."
– Military Instructions, Article I, Frederick the Great

As Johnathan reads the passage from the book, he could not help but wonder about the recent days being filled with drilling the troops relentlessly. He brings his attention to the words written on it as he compares that specific experience to what was said on it.

He could tell that the soldiers came from a long way, from militias growing to become disciplined and well drilled over the course of a month with great enthusiasm from both the Officers and the rank and file soldiers.

It helped that the recent victories against skirmishes conducted by the British to attain more resources and supplies for their encampment at Boston brought more enthusiasm towards the drilling than expected. However, he did see those specifically under him to train for the day, trained their hardest, more than other officers..

Continuing onwards from the Discipline part of the passage, he could not help but agree with the focus on making sure their welfare is to be paid, not to mention of being well fed. Paying attention to the soldiery rather than ignoring them would bring more benefits on the long and even short haul. Sure, it can be expensive, but the fact remains that the soldiers would be willing to stay and keep fighting for the army.

But, that alone isn't enough.

He brings his attention back to the current victories of the skirmishes, and the noticeable increase of soldiers and fellow officers paying attention to him in the drills. Another aspect of commandeering, from his notice, is the trust of the common soldiers and officers to the capability of the commander.

Sure, there can be losses to be handled. As long as the Commander is still capable of bringing the enemies a bloody nose while on the retreat, not to mention keeping a good rapport with his troops and making sure they are well treated and fed, the army will stay loyal regardless.

Just from the first passage, he can already tell the rest of the book will be a treasure trove in analyzing and a source of inspiration in how you will command your forces in the future.

N/A: Was about to cover The Seven Years War, until I remembered I have a certain piece of work that's basically forgotten in favour of the Prussian King's victories and losses in that particular war. So researching a little about the publishing, I can reasonably say it is bought by his father, quite expensive, as a birthday present. You can find the Digital version of the Work here: Military Instructions by Frederick The Great/Friedrich Der Grosse.

They also have a small digital Library here: A Modest Library of General Military History and Political Writings.

RealOtto – The Brit' Grenadier

The Brit' Grenadier
Created by: Army of the Observation

Bio: Created from a battalion defending a town against the British Skirmishers, a soldier was mentioned to have sang what came out of his head after forgetting the lyrics to Yankee Doodle. As a result, other soldiers in the battalion began placing their own random lyrics that formulated to a song mocking the British Army and a shot against King George III at the end.

(Unofficial Intro:

Barney is the Brit' Grenadier
Representing the British nation
His size as big as hasty pudding,
A British Sensation.)

Verse 1:

The Brit' Grenadier went to town
Expecting an easy turkey
When he saw Yankee Doodle
He joined the tea in the sea

Chorus:

Grenadiers keep it up
Grenadiers be dandy
Mind your fifes, and drums you'll play
We'll stamp your muskets, sweetie.

Verse 2:

The Brit' Grenadier went to a store
Wanting to buy some sugar
But when he saw the prices soar
He cried a child on the floor

Chorus:

Grenadiers keep it up
Grenadiers be dandy
Mind your fifes, and drums you'll play
We'll stamp your muskets, sweetie.

Verse 3:

The Grenadier ran to win
Against the coming rebels
Instead he betrayed his fellow kin
And lost his total marbles.

Verse 4

The Grenadier tried to ride
Upon a macaroni
Instead he gets kicked head down
That's what you call a Donkey

Chorus:

Grenadiers keep it up
Grenadiers be dandy
Mind your fifes, and drums you'll play
We'll stamp your muskets, sweetie.

Verse 5

Good Old Georgie went back home
To his haunted mansion
When he enters, his jaw dropped
As Yankee Doodle's with his wife

Chorus:

Come on Georgie, keep it up
Your Grenadiers be dandy
Mind your ladies, and your fluff
We'll stamp your crown, your lowness.

Chorus:

Come on Georgie, keep it up
Your Grenadiers be dandy
Mind your ladies, and your fluff
We'll stamp your crown, your lowness.

N/A: When I saw the part that says "Music", I could not stop myself in creating a counter-mock song of Yankee Doodle. Not sure if it's any good.

The Grenadier tried to ride
Upon a macaroni
Instead he gets kicked head down
That's what you call a Donkey
I love this parody song, but I'll have to correct this verse, since it seems like you're using macaroni as a term for horse. Basically, "macaroni" is, or was, a pejorative term used to describe young men who were seen as excessively gluttonous, vice-laden, effeminate, and possibly homosexual. Basically, they're the most degenerate and fashion-lovinng dandies.

So, using this interpretation of Macaroni, either this verse is saying that the grenadier is trying to ride a fop into battle or it's insulting the grenadier by calling him gay. Both of which are extremely hilarious to me for different reasons.

Regardless, enjoy a +5 to all Battle Rolls for the next Battle.

[Canon] AvidFicReader: Jacques "Jack" Tremblay
Jacques "Jack" Tremblay
-born 1737, 38 years old as of 1775
Born and raised in the St. Lawrence River Valley, he and his young family had been uprooted and pressed into service by the British Army during the French and Indian War, eventually settling in the Virginia near the James River, in the countryside near Richmond. Aside from their small homestead, he and his family supported themselves by hunting and foraging, skills he taught to his children. Jacques devoted himself into building a new future for his family in a strange land, getting by with broken English at times. However, he was not good at managing money, and the family often lived hand-to-mouth. He had a bare handful of connections with the Virginia militia, and he learned warfare firsthand from watching armies marching and besieging his home. Jacques might be amicable enough at the tavern, but the dispossessed Quebecois possessed a mean temper, and never forgot a slight or a grudge, especially against Britain and the British Army in particular. Jacques possessed the uncanny ability to disappear, whether into a crowd or the underbrush of the wilderness. If he happened to slip into someone's garden or pocket some fruit or coin at the market, no one was the wiser. His four children, aside from the eldest, who was but an infant during the Quebec campaign, were all born and raised Virginians. Where Jacques truly shined, however, was his marksmanship. With powder and shot limited by his family's tight finances, every shot had to count. Combined with his uncanny stealth, he was able to regularly land clean killshots and retrieve pelts almost entirely intact. This earned him good coin and a good reputation with pelt merchants, much of his income went back into keeping his family clothed and fed. With the outbreak of hostilities between the Thirteen Colonies and the Crown, and recruitment of militia regiments for the coming conflict, Jacques immediately joined up with the companies of "expert riflemen," eager to pay back the slights Britain had paid to his family.

His origin comes from Evelyn Amber Severin's backstory from La Chanson. Tremblay being one of the most common Quebecois surnames.

"General Putnam, you and Colonel Stark served with the esteemed Roger's Rangers during the French and Indian War
By the way, while redeeming Arnold is a noble goal and I support it, I would also like to save Major Rogers for the American side if possible. Hopefully we will succeed.

Edit: The same goes for John Stark's brother, William, who will arrive post haste during/after the upcoming battle to join up. However, due to politicial idiocy on part of his state he will later side with the British as payback for the insult.

Turn II – June 1775
"It has been said by a certain general, that the first object in the establishment of an army ought to be making provision for the belly, that being the basis and foundation of all operations."
–Frederick the Great,
Military Instructions

June 2, 1775
Boston, Massachusetts

"Grenadiers, keep it up!
Grenadiers be dandy!
Mind your fifes and drums you'll play
We'll stamp your muskets, sweetie."

"God, will they ever stop singing that song?" The newly promoted Major Jonathan Halbert annoyedly grumbled as he walked by some marching soldiers, the men lustily singing that same blasted tune they'd been singing for the past two weeks. It'd been amusing the first few times, but after a while, it became nothing more than sound that signified nothing. Nothing good to him, at least.

"At least Yankee Doodle is patriotic." Jonathan mumbled to himself as he made his way back to his tent. "This is just kicking a horse with a limp."

It is June 2, 1775. Jonathan is currently on the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts, which is currently being besieged by the Army of Observation.

Jonathan is a major in the Army of Observation and is paid thirty dollars per month, the standard wage of his rank.

His current assets are as follows...

–1,530 Continental Dollars

–A wagon that holds your personal belongings.

–An officer's sword and uniform, as well as a pistol.

–A collection of military history books. (+5 to rolls for all Martial Actions.)

You have six Actions this Turn. Use them wisely.

Special Actions

[] Bunker Hill: General Ward has called an urgent meeting with all his commanding officers, you especially. The reason for this meeting? An informant has give reason to believe that the British are going to invade the Charlestown peninsula and the Dorchester Heights soon. (Leads to a Battle Turn where you fight in a battle. How you fight it is your prerogative.)

[] Press Release: Those young journalists from the Pennsylvania Gazette are still around ready for an interview. With your recent successes, this could be a chance to score an easy propaganda win for the Revolution.

[] Audacity Breeds Victory: You have a bold plan, one which others would consider far too risky. But Hannibal didn't cross the Alps by shying away from danger.

Martial

[] Request Command of a Battalion: While you are an officer, it doesn't really mean much if you're not in charge of anything. See if you can convince General Ward to give you a battalion to lead.

[] Read Up on Military Stratagy: While you are competent at military affairs, it wouldn't hurt to sharpen your skills.

[] Frontline Experience: Despite being a major, you've never experienced any combat or earned any scars. Perhaps you should join some of the skirmishers in order to gain some much-needed experience.

Diplomacy

[] Trench Talk: If you're going to lead men into battle, it would be best for you to gain their trust.

[] Social Slithering: You want to talk with your fellow officers and get into their good graces.

[] Head into Boston... Not in Disguise: The American and British leadership have come to an unofficial agreement regarding entry into Boston. While it would require you to leave your weapons behind, there shouldn't be any real risk to the endeavor, and you might even found out some useful information. Probably.

[] Here Comes the General: General Ward wishes to get a better measure of you and your character.

[] The Color of their Eyes: Colonel Prescott is interested in your economic approach to abolitionism, especially since you're an abolitionist who doesn't own slaves himself.

[] Try to Write Something: You want to write something for the world to read. Whether it be for yourself or to help your cause, you just wish to write it.

Stewardship

[] Requisition Ammunition and Weapons: The men are enthusiastic and eager to get at the Redcoats, but they'll need more than guts in order to beat them back. See if you can get them some tools of death to use.
-[] Write in how much money you wish to spend.
-[] Write in what kind of weapons and requisite ammunition you wish to purchase.

[] Requisition Supplies: Though the supply situation has been helped thanks to your arrival, you can always do more to improve it.
-[] Write in how much money you wish to spend.
[] Write in what kind of supplies you wish to purchase.

[] Ask to Look Over the Supplies: A man of trade and money, you know the importance of proper storage of goods and that things must be made accountable and proper.

[] A Way of Payment: The militiamen are only here for two reasons; money and righteous anger. Righteous anger will fade soon enough, and soon their desire for some form of wealth will take hold.
-[] Write in how much money you wish to spend.

[] Check your Stocks: A good merchant, even one that is joining a battle, always travels with his stores of whatever he wants to sell. Maybe there's something in the carts that could help. Hopefully. (Can be taken two more times.)

[] In for a Pence: You've done the numbers, and if you sell the stock you have in your father's business, the army wouldn't have to worry about supplies for an entire year. Well... in for a pence, in for a pound.

Intrigue

[] Head into Boston... in Disguise: You want to know more about the situation in Boston, as well as possibly find out out what the Redcoats are up to. You'll sneak into the city yourself.

[] Send Men into Boston... in Disguise: You want to know more about the situation in Boston, as well as possibly find out out what the Redcoats are up to. You'll send a few men to sneak into the city.

[] Scout Out British Positions: The British have set up forts on the hills just around Boston. Perhaps you could head out and... appreciate the magnificent architecture.

Learning

[] An Issue to Resolve: There is always something that the faculty needs to resolve. But you… have the power to potentially resolve that something. So saddle forth and do something about it. (This will lead to the creation of other options.)

[] Learn a New Skill: You want to expand your skillset amd broaden your knowledge.
-[] Write in what skill you wish to learn. (Subject to QM Approval.)

Prowess

[] Exercise: If you're going to fight in this Revolution, you are going to need to shape up and work your body. Right now.

[] Train with Weapons: If you're going to fight in this Revolution, it would be wise for you to learn how to actually use a weapon.
-[] Write in which weapon you want to train with.

Personal

[] Focus on an Action: You want to make sure you accomplish this task well. (Applies a +10 Bonus to any action of your choice.)
-[] Write in which Action you wish to apply the bonus to.

[] Pray: You're not the most religious man, but a talk with God wouldn't hurt.

[] Write to your Family: You want to keep in touch with your family, make sure that they're doing well.

Author's Notes:

No moratorium this time.

Revolutionary Fun Fact – When Ben Franklin died in 1790, he bequeathed his walking cane to George Washington, his old friend and ally in the American Revolution. Ben Franklin wrote, "If it were a scepter, he has merited it, and would become it."

Jacques "Jack" Tremblay
Jacques Tremblay is serving as a private in Morgan's Rifle Company under Daniel Morgan.

Now that I mention him, he's also a great officer to have on our side. He destroyed a British force under Banastre Tarleton at the Battle of Cowpens, and a commentor said on the battle that it was the only original tactic conceived during the American Revolution. Probably not true, but it says a lot.

Rogers is... complicated.

William Stark, however, should be an easy fix. Just give him leadership of the company he was promised and he stays. Simple.

I think we can focus on the more Social actions afterwards.

Actually, Cowpens was the most tactically brilliant battle of the entire war.

Morgan commanded flawlessly and executed a double envelopment Cannae-style. While small in scale, the battle did utterly cripple Tarleton's Legion and deprived Cornwallis of the vast majority of his best cavalrymen, who would be sorely missed in the coming months.

Oh, I'm not denying the genius of Cowpens; Morgan read Tarleton like a 1st Grade spelling textbook. What I'm saying is that Cowpens probably wasn't the only original tactic to come out of the American Revolution.

Yo @Duke William of, can I create us a personal-ish enemy on the British side (Only One, of course. Doesn't make sense to make 2 or above since there's few commanders in the actual war on the British Side) that should at least make things interesting? Additional information on the character you'll be able to progress it.

If not, I'll refurbish it to the American Side.

John Morgan is now serving with an irregular force of rebels that are hitting British outposts and convoys in the wilderness of New York and the surrounding area.

Wait... is this an RDR2 reference or something?

Yo @Duke William of,
WHile I'm interested, we already have four OC's running around that aren't the MC, so I really don't want to overfill the quest with OC's. I think that's what killed my previous quest.

So I'm afraid I'll have to pull the plug on more OC's for now.
