NieR Automata

THere's literally only one ending/quest that is permanently missable. Don't worry about it, you can always go back and do everything before the very end of Ending E

It's really fucking hard to say without spoiling shit.

There'll be a chapter select before the very end though. You can go back and clean up your game then though.
I've gotten the chapter select and reached the main endings. I'm just not certain about a permanently missable quest as opposed to ones you can miss on the first playthrough until you access the chapter select.

There's literally only one thing that's permanently missable at this point, and that's one of the special endings.

Quick-search shows that Nier Reincarnation doesn't have it's own thread yet.
...Somebody else should probably get on that.

Anyways, I'm posting this here. Because the relevant portion is that it's apparently getting a collab with Automata as soon as it releases.

Oh, hey. They're finally patching the Steam version of Automata.

Notice about the planned release of the Steam patch
The following fixes will be applied in the Steam patch scheduled for release on 15/07/2021.

▼ Changes made
• Borderless Video Settings
Borderless video settings have been implemented.
• Fidelity FX
A Fidelity FX CAS feature has been added.
• HDR
The system will now detect whether HDR has been activated in the Windows display settings, and automatically boot the game in HDR mode if it has.
• Anti-aliasing
Adjustments to the anti-aliasing functionality
• UI textures (4K)
Approximately 270 UI textures for icons, backdrops and UI elements etc. now support 4K resolutions.
• Cut scenes
The bit rate has been improved and all pre-rendered cut scenes adjusted, so they will now play in 60FPS and display in the correct aspect ratio without stretching the picture.
• Global illumination
A new "Global illumination" feature has been implemented. This can be set to three different levels; High, Medium or Low.
• Ambient occlusion/ bloom
The rendering targets for ambient occlusion and bloom effects have been changed to dynamic resolution based on the game's resolution.
▼ Bug fixes
• It is now possible to switch between recently selected display modes for screenshots, such as between full screen and windowed mode or between borderless and windowed mode, by pushing the Alt + Enter keys together.
• The mouse cursor is no longer displayed when using a game pad controller.
• The frame rate has been stabilized at 60FPS under default settings.
Other stability related fixes have also been implemented.

So hey, shit has been going down in the Nier: Automata subreddit lately and recently spread to twitter.

It started with someone asking how they could 'access the church' and when people asked the person what they meant, they posted a video showing A2 opening a hidden door in the Copied City-

Text from twitter thread: "Someone randomly posted a video on the Nier Automata subreddit showing they found a secret room in the Copied City. So far no one else has worked out how they managed to make this secret door appear. Literally 1 person on earth has accessed this room and we are uttered mind blown / This has been an ongoing mystery for over a month since this person just randomly posted "why can't my friend access the church?". Today they finally posted a video of what they were talking about and the community is in shambles over this discovery. / It's not yet possible to mod Nier Automata in this way, if anyone is curious if this is fake."

A full video of the person going through the door and entering the hidden area was posted yesterday:

Here's a tumblr link with some screenshots I took of the more interesting things to be seen:

My take: it's most likely viral marketing for the Switch version of Automata or possibly some other upcoming Nier content. If so then call me a carrier cause I'm very feeling very infected.

Yeah, there's a lot of references in some of the recent footage to Nier 1, which makes me think it's extra content in the switch version to tie it together to Nier Replicants recent rerelease. Also the reddit account posting it is named "sad twins" which seems on the nose.

Still, neat stuff.

I did not know the meaning of the person's username, and that makes me unreasonably excited for the possibility of a Devola/Popola game Yoko Taro once mentioned Square asking if he'd be interested in making. It's probably just a referential name, however.

I dunno what kind of crazy shit Yoko Taro would serve up as secret content to tie together two seperate rereleases, but frankly I don't think anyone is prepared to handle it.

I've started to hear folks suggesting the thing is somehow a hoax. Has anyone else been able to access the secret church so far?

No one else has, even on the initial PS4 release that the user was implied to be using. You can clip through the walls with mods and there's nothing behind it there. It would either have to be that someone got a very specific dev copy with content that was thoroughly removed from the real version, it's faked in some other way, or it's what's been suggested in the thread.

No one.

Literally no one else on the planet other than this one reddit account - which exists for nothing else other than posting the "Church" breadcrumbs, and which plays the fool when people ask for more information - has ever accessed this alleged secret door.

Dataminers have gone through the PC version of Automata and found no assets that correspond to what is shown in the video.

I am willing to put money on this being the work of one singularly obsessed troll. Maybe they're a god-tier modder, maybe they somehow replicated Automata in Unreal or Unity, maybe they fabricated the footage somehow, but this is not a "real" secret that exists in anyone's copy of Automata.

Depends what you mean by 'hoax.'

1. The Nier Automata modding community has been firmly united in saying this is so far beyond what the NA mod scene is capable of that the odds of some random unknown person showing up with this is extremely unlikely.
2. No one else, anywhere, ever, has been able to access the church, so this is not some lucky find even on a 1.0 copy of the game or the like.
3. The user 'sadfutago' (which as NemoMarx pointed out to me upthread means 'sad twins') basically only exists on reddit to drum up interest about this, setting a lure with the initial question of asking how to 'access the church' then, over the past month dropping first screenshots, then a partial video, and finally a full video that shows off the church interior.

For my money the chances of this being anything but viral marketing are basically nil. NA is coming to Switch in October and Nier producer Yosuke Saito retweeted the video with the comment "Eternal mystery..." (When someone asked Yoko Taro himself for insight, his reply was 'you can find the answer at my twitter profile' (his twitter profile says 'I cannot answer any questions about products.')) There's also the way the player in the video reacts - instead of walking around in stunned amazement and looking at the various easter eggs, they're constantly firing the drone gun and mashing attack while 'just happening' to swing the camera around to catch stuff like Weiss in the window. It has the exact feel of 'gosh golly fellow kids my friend who totally exists found this completely unknown area in [extremely popular game] does anyone else know about this?'

It's not impossible that this could be some very dedicated modder playing a long con on the NA community, but I think the safe bet is the Nier team drumming up hype for the NA switch or other upcoming product. And I'm not pooh-poohing the effort to be clear, I'm watching this with fascination.

This is Nier were talking about. It's could literally be Yoko Taro under an alt trolling people with a new build of the game. You can't assume anything, except that the answer will not be normal.

The reused voice lines push me firmly into the "mod, fake, or manipulated footage" camp. If it was cut content, it'd have unique audio or none at all. If it was an ARG for actual new content, I'd expect new audio, and probably Japanese audio as well.
