NieR Automata

W-What?! Can it be?!
Cryaotic posted a Nier Automata video?! :o
...So, I really hope he finishes it. I thought it was a huge shame that he discontinued his Nier Let's Play.

Looking at the beginning of the thread, some of the stuff over there is pretty funny considering what we now know about the game.

Am I the only one who got the idea that:

A2 is a previous model of 2B, with a sort of mechanical reincarnation going on with minds being to some extent recycled.

I felt that this was implied by the Terminals referring to A2 as a prototype, along with the suspicously similar haircut during the bridge scene.

Has Dark ID's lets play thread been posted yet?

Just in case: NieR: Automata - For the Glory of Mankind - The Something Awful Forums

It pretty much is canon. The number is the personality, so both are pretty much clones of Kainé.

Wait a minute.... do you mean that literally? That honestly never occurred to me, where are you getting this from?

During the...

A2 vs 9S duel I honestly thought for a second that he would... well there was a rather queer tension to the whole encounter.

With regards to Androids, Machines and the dead human civilisation.....

As far as I can tell, various simulations and reproductions of human consciousnesses created by both the Androids and the Machines ending up dominating both their networks/hive minds, leading to the present bizarre symbiotic relationship. That's my interpretation of what the Terminals described anyway, even with humans rendered extinct several thousand years of obsessive focus can likely pay dividends. That server on the moon might be rather more impressive than what we might think.

Even granting that, there some rather odd unexplained details, YoRHa for example is unlikely to be the top of the Andriod totem pole, who exactly organised their construction? That must have required a huge industrial base.

I mean A2 is basically Kainé right down to the similar attitude, fashion sense and approach to solving problems.

I'm pretty sure it's been made explicit that A2 is based on Kaine.
The stageplay established that A2 is based on specifically Human Kaine and not Replicant Kaine, according to that handsome boy Mr. Clemps. But iirc there's a file ingame you can read that pretty heavily implies the that anyway and as I've already stated before the Grimoire Nier exclusive Ending E novella also seems to imply that YoRHa's inception was spawning clones of Kaine while she beat up a computer.

And who better to base your robot army on ...?

iirc, it's in archives you can get when hacking.

It talks about the android's classifications, with the different types, and another says that the personality n.2 is based on a girl who lived with her grandmother or something like that.

Then again, it's already been almost a year I think so I don't remember all the details.

Isn't A2 based on the Replicant Kaine? The actual, real human Kaine who existed thousands of years before Nier was said to have an abusive grandmother, whereas the one in Nier was kind. I'm fairly certain it implies that distinction in the Nier novel.

No, her Grandmother wasn't abusive. AFAIK, she was falling prey to senility and had an episode where she almost hurt Kaine.

Novelizations of this game? Those are a thing?

Well, I think I'll buy them at some point. I'm of two minds about potentially getting a look into the heads of our characters. On one hand, it removes some of the ambiguity that makes them interesting. On the other, I'm curious as to what an appointed author will make of them.

Come to think of it, I'm particularly interested in Commander White. What's it like inside her head? Is she disdainful of the YoRHa androids, seeing them as Machine lifeforms in Android skin, good only to be spent like pieces on a gameboard? Or is she filled with regret and remorse as to the tragedy of the YoRHa androids' existence and the great lie that must be perpetuated to keep up the endless war?
