Eh, if we have to go for a grand coalition anyway then we may as well pick up Kesi for a month and wipe everything without having to play footsie with the Class 3s while the city descends into Hong Kong. The issue with Kesi isn't that we can't get her to help; the issue is that we probably can only get her help once; after that, if the Model UN summit we'd have to call in the aftermath to divide up Tokyo should fail, then I doubt the Incubators will be willing to rent her out a second time.I still think that Serena is the better option, but if she doesn't work out, this is my second choice.
Haven't written it yet. What's the biggest time sink in this update is as ever the diplomacy stuff.@inverted_helix: Given these objections, and general feelings about the Hong Kong action, I would not mind dropping that bit, particularly if it is a troublesome aspect of the overall update (as you've noted it as already incredibly long, though I don't know if you've written this part yet), or you feel this is taking Mami too OOC.
Of course, if you've already written it, or you are just giggling over something else to use against us, that's your prerogative.
Also the temptation to make the other girls in her entourage senshi expies is surprisingly incredibly strong. The only reason I still resist is that Sailor Moon is an anime in universe. (At least from omakes.)
What I'm hoping for is a glimpse at what must be Nagoya's massive clairvoyant spy net, the one that was able to detect and respond to a spike in DS in an area 40-50 miles from downtown Nagoya, when it takes a full month of work by one of our vets to even get a 70% accurate DS estimate on a neighboring territory for us. I suspect a system similar to our clairvoyant dispatch, only make up of several Elite-level Clairvoyants, although even that seems like too little given that they're covering an area of something like 1600-2500 square miles to reach all the way to our backyard.Haven't written it yet. I didn't quite consider but you guys going on the Nagoya expedition means I have to write a huge amount for an action that was actually very cheap on your end.
Also have to write up what they have on the situation in Tokyo, which is a fair bit even with me cutting corners.
In particular, I figure a bunch of people raised in Japan would not be particularly eager to deploy WMDs inside the city that they're living in. You'd have to think that people from the homeland of Hiroshima and Nagasaki would know better than to casually toy with that sort of thing, so I assumed that the Incubators simply hadn't told them of the risks, just like they didn't for the Serenes when we were regularly pushing DSes of +10-20 inside Mitakihara.Edit: Also on unrelated to that note it occurs to me that much of the dissonance between me and @TheEyes is due to the fact that I have a very pessimistic view of humanity. And that definitely bleeds into the writing here. I assume that if you give everyone access to bioweapons someone is going to use them, while he assumes they'll be smart enough to not do that because it would hurt themselves as well.
They have sailor moon in mexico too. Really, it's entirly possible at least a few of them could have actually tried to develop weapons similar to those of the Sailors, given that they can waste magic on such frivolities. But if you make them senshi expies then the Tokyo girls can be dumbfounded when the Sailor Senshi show up to save them.
We can even tutor Serena on how to say "in the name of the moon I will punish you" in japanese.
I don't think it's quite that good, seeing as they didn't realize we were using crop rotation, which suggests we were only scanned once. Even one scan is pretty impressive; that's an astonishing amount of area to cover, and frankly it's a waste of valuable clairvoyant resources, which implies that they have clairvoyant resources to waste, which is impressive. I previously estimated the Nagoya Mageocracy to have between 56 and 227 members; looks like they're on the high side of that estimate.I don't think it's quite that good, seeing as they didn't realize we were using crop rotation, which suggests we were only scanned once.

That would be such a hilariously terrible thing to do to your childrenTheir parents were all Sailor Moon fans and named their daughters after them.
Plus, if you use the English/Spanish names, then most of the Japanese girls won't really get it.
It is rather amusing to imagine, isn't it?I am now thinking of Rei Hino with a Scottish accent, and grinning.
Looking up the latin american dub names, it seems the inners have the same dub names in mexico and the USA.
Edit: I'm pretty sure that everyone in the thread wants Serena's retinue to be Sailor Moon expies.
Yeah... expies would suggest they use the same atttacks and abilities.Actually, while i find the idea funny, I don't think I could really talk them that seriously if they were all expys.
Or even completely different personalities, and constantly annoyed by people calling then the Sailor Scouts?Eh... expies might be too much.
But coincidentally the same names?
Sure...
We could certainly make it a non-explicit allusion.Serena, Amy, Rae, Lita, and Mina are all actual names, and not that uncommon either.
Mina is German and means love.
Lita is Spanish and means sorrow. (It's actually a pretty common name in Mexico too.)
Serena is of course derived from the Latin, and thus pretty common in all Romance languages. Especially Spanish and Italian.
Amy is one of the most common English names around, the source is French, and means beloved.
Rae is probably the most unusual, but it's certainly not unheard of. There are several different nations that use Rae. One of the more common sources in America is the Scottish origin, which is why a lot of country singers (who often are derived from Scots-Irish descent) will have Rae as a middle name.

Honestly, physically and personality-wise, Betty Rae is probably closer to Minako, and Nina is closer to Rei. But I'm not making carbon copies, so the little bit of discordance is fine.
- Serena Pantano - Serena is Serena
- Amélie Poulain - Granddaughter in a family of French expats that were retiring in Mexico. Has a... unique outlook on life. Somewhat short, with a lithe build. (Totally stealing her from the movie, Amélie.)
- Betty Rae Allen - Came from Texas on vacation. Grew up with three brothers. Knows how to wrassle.
- Lita Valenzuela Pérez - Classic Latin beauty, tall, with dark eyes and a dancer's build.
- Nina Mamani - Native American ancestry, with lineage from tribes in the Andes. Her family had migrated north. Takes her heritage seriously.
Edit: As an aside, this gives them access to French, English, and possibly Portuguese as extra languages. Betty Rae took Spanish in school, and Amélie is from France, where it's normal to learn multiple languages anyway. Nina may have learned Portuguese due to her family background in South America.
Worst case would be that her aura shuts off when untransformed. That would be wholely unremarkable, and probably expected behavior. Except that that means she can never untransform, because doing so would kill her companions.Stray thought, when meguca are untransformed, their magic is weaker, right? Wouldn't that extend to Serena's aura? We're gonna have to remember to include that in the questions we ask...
Nah... your magic isn't gone when you untransform, or our girls couldn't cheat with their powers on the job, in particular their wish-related powers. IMO the worst case is that the aura is wholly unaffected because it's part of her wish magic. If the only reason she doesn't do it is that the upkeep goes too high for their nomadic lifestyle, we can probably afford to pay for that.Worst case would be that her aura shuts off when untransformed. It's been an exciting turn. The next year or so IC is likely to be as exciting, though hopefully less controversial. It has now been forty pages since the last update.
Man, has the quest ever been this active before?
