Mauling Snarks (Worm) (Complete)

Why Amy and Taylor visited the PRT (Loki Thorson)
I couldn't help thinking about what the public thinks about Taylor and Amy walking into the PRT together. They'd need a half decent cover story at least....

[This not my best work, but the point comes across... I think.]

Arcadia Cafeteria, Monday Lunch

Several teenagers watched as The Amy Dallon, sat down in her usual spot near her sister. One brave soul finally approached her.

"So... Amy," asked Dennis.

Looking up from her salad, Amy grunted at him.

"Question for you," he continued, now that he had Amy's attention, as well as the attention of most of the room. "It's been all over PHO, but I'd like to think that our relationship over these many years.."

"You mean the one where you tell bad puns and I snark back at you to go away."

"Yes," Dennis nodded. "Anyways, the people want to know, just what is your relation to Taylor?"

To the side, Vicky snorted a mouth full of milk onto her boy friend, as she fought a losing battle to her laughter.

Amy blushed, her eyes darting around the room looking for an escape. There was none.

"Umm... well..."

"Come on Ames. You could tell me."

Seeing as she wasn't getting out of this, Amy sighed, "Fine. We, Taylor and Myself, were at the PRT this weekend because I had this idea the other day while I was working at the hospital. I happened to be on the phone with her, so when I explained my idea, Taylor volunteered to be the test subject."

"Test subject?"

"Yeah. We were at the PRT so we could work on it in a somewhat safe environment, just in case... that and Taylor wanted to use the excuse to finish getting all the Protectorates autographs. As for what we did, well..."

At that moment, as if planned, the cafeteria doors banged open and in staggered a shell shocked Taylor Hebert, her normally brown hair now a riot of colors from the rainbow, quite similar to Amy's very popular roses. But the usual confident girl seemed absent today as she tripped distractedly across the floor directly to Amy. Taylor practically droped into Amy's lap and began to whimper.

"Taylor!" Amy, Vicky, and their other friends echoed in worry. The girl cringed.

"Taylor what happened?" Amy asked gently, once the press of people pulled back a bit.

"Change it back," Taylor hoarsely whispered to Amy. "Please change my hair back."

"Of course!" Amy began to bring her brown lockes back. "But what happened Taylor?"

"I... I... sixteen..."

"Sixteen what?" asked Dennis.

Taylor looked at him with haunted eyes. "Sixteen random people have walked up to me and said, 'Taste the rainbow!', right before they licked me!"

A beat. A snort of laughter. And the teens around them were off, baying for the moon.

"It's not funny!" Taylor yelled at them. "They kept calling me Skittles!"

And with that, even Amy couldn't hold in, began to shriek with laughter.

"Et tu, Amy," Taylor began to bang her head into the table.

I can see Behemoth already

The Idiot wants Taylor's help to charge his powers does he?
Hmm I can use this MWAHAHAHA!

This is how Taylor gets a copy of Eidolon's power. Coincidentally Eidolon ends up with a permanent changer state of a bipedal donkey wearing a pink tutu.

At an absolute minimum she'd like to not have to come up with an excuse for why he was suddenly interested in visiting Brockton Bay.
Obviously it's because Maul is Eidolon's daughter and while she moved to another state to get some freedom, it doesn't stop her dad from visiting all the time.

Does Taylor still need Brian's snark to feed her energy first or did it figure out how to gather energy on its own somewhere and I just missed it.

Once she had her bowl of cereal she resumed poking through messages. Huh, who were the 'Think Tank Oversight Board', and why were they telling her that they'd approved an extension the Think Tank had requested? Of something, it didn't say what. Well, whatever, if it was important she was sure someone would clarify.
Probably for her wall, the one they build after shitting bricks.

"What are you," Amy started, before looking down at her hand. "Oh. That's much better, thanks."

"You're welcome," Taylor said as she flipped the switch again and dropped back down into the seat she had been using. "It was starting to bug me anyway. That and I bet you also have to get used to not being the only healer in town."
You didn't actually say what she fixed. Presumably it's either a medical issue which cropped up overnight (bacteria, cramps, itches, etc...) but which is low-priority/naturally goes away and can't be solved easily without powers/tech/something.
Also, she wasn't the only healer in town before... Othala can heal after all.

Amy: Now that I'm paying attention to him, why does it feel like he's labeled Colin?
Shouldn't they inform him that Amy knows his ID?
Not looking it up, but IIRC Taylor's use of Colin's name only occured after Dragon accidentally used his name when talking to her and so she informed him... This is also important information due to the fact that any future mental labels either puts on parahumans may be shared with the other.
While they might try to work to prevent this (not labeling others with their civilian ID's) the fact that Armsmaster was labeled 'Colin' and not 'Efficiency' means that it may not just be the snark label that is transferred... also such labels may be applied subconsciously without intent or even realizing.

It actually occurs to me that since Snarks seem to be more sentinent than canon Shards it's entirely possible that Maul could beat Eidolon's Shard- which is what actually controls the Endbringers- around the head metaphorically to get it to knock it off with the Endbringer attacks (or at least have them attack Eidolon somewhere remote enough that it won't cause the same problems)

Also, it's worth noting that Taylor might not actually be able to help Eidolon as much as he thinks. Specifically, when Eidolon loses a power permanently- because the Snark is out of energy- it's possible that particular Snark is dead. If so, Taylor can't help. (of course, if it's just that that particular Snark doesn't have enough energy to use the power in question, then that's different, and she COULD fix all of them given sufficient energy. However, Eidolon would need to periodically come back for a top-up, which, while certainly in-character for him, IS a bit of a big thing to demand of Taylor that she feed his Snark on-demand.

From canon, the snark isn't dead. Just too low on energy to provide power. As is shown during the Golden Morning events when he figures out how to drain the shards of living parahumans to fuel his own powers. He manages to bust out powers that had faded years previously.

Of course, this version of him may not be capable of that trick. If he's emulating powers, he may not have access to those snarks. Instead it may be that he's drained the power of his own snark to the point it's incapable of running certain emulations anymore.

Taylor woke, wondering what was going on. Why was she awake at four in the morning?

Amy: Wake up Taylor.

Taylor: Oh. That's what woke me up. Why are you poking me?

Amy: Go to the bathroom so that I stop thinking I need to, would you?
Well... that's somewhat annoying. Gotta work on those mental filters, I guess.

Oooh, when had someone bought the Tinker Crunch? That sounded great for breakfast.
Amy: What are you eating?

Taylor: Tinker Crunch.

Amy: Please tell me there's more?

Taylor: I just opened the box.
*blinks* Is that, like their version of Captain Crunch or something? Or is it a Tinker-made cereal that's ridiculously good?

Taylor: Pile of requests to visit the PRT today.

Amy: Huh, so much for not talking with your mouth full. What for?
And this is where telepathy comes in handy. Or brainy, I guess, considering the context. :D

With two paperwork boxes and a box of pens.
*wince* Ouch.

"I must be reading this one wrong," Amy said, looking over one of her documents. "I thought the law prevented that?"

"Prevented what?" Taylor said, reading over her last document.

"A parahuman being in a position of power within the PRT."
Oh riiiight! Amy would have Taylor's BS clearance levels now too.

you also have to get used to not being the only healer in town.
*snorts* Trust me, the additional help is MUCH needed. Poor thing deserves the break.

Taylor: Well, I kinda found out Assault's name due to him being an idiot?

Amy: Really? What did he do?

Taylor: Left the shipping labels with his civilian name on stuff he ordered to give me.

Amy blinked a couple of times, and facepalmed.
*nods sympathetically* As did everyone else who heard about it, Amy.

"So far the boys can't cook," Lisa answered. "But not for lack of trying. Thank you for suggesting the vent hood, by the way. Brian offered to give some lessons to the others in how to, at the very least, not burn the kitchen area down. Carlos decided that the group of them would need to do some grocery shopping to restock as well."
*blinks* Did they use up all the food cooking, only to end up burning the lot?

"You're welcome," Taylor and Amy chorused together.
Hebert-Dallon tag-team GO!
But seriously, this would be very freaky in regular conversation. God help BB if they start emulating a certain pair of redheaded twins...

"At any rate, once he had calmed down he indicated that he wanted to thank both of you, by building any one item for each of you. Within reason, anyway. He claims that thanks to your work he can, supposedly, build essentially anything once."
You know... the possibilities for that are endless. Anti-Endbringer weapon, anyone?

Amy: Huh. Well, I've been jealous of Vicky's forcefield before.

Taylor: So a personal shield?

Amy: Yeah. What about you?

Taylor: Well, I kinda have brute down. Maybe flying? But I like the jump harness...

Amy: Maybe a flying platform, like Chris's hoverboard?

Taylor: Huh. Maybe, and if it was large enough I could carry someone else on it if needed.
*grins* Trust them to be practical about their choices.

I think that leaves the tinker stuff? I seem to know how to make, repair, install, and maintain implants and prosthetics. Most of the implant stuff seems to be organ replacements or for interfacing with prosthetics, really.
Isn't that kind of Riley's shtick?

"And I have Understanding, Maintaining, and Repairing of technology," Taylor said. "Which doesn't seem to have any options for building anything unless it's part of the Maintaining and Repairing of something else. And the Understanding part mainly focuses on use, current state, and if repair or maintenance is required?"
You know, I just realized, Colin is going to LOVE her new power.

Taylor and Amy turned to Colin. Who didn't seem to be moving. After a moment he noticed. "I'm fine here. Have you had any of the macaroons? They're quite tasty."
:lol I still can't get over Armsmaster acting NORMAL! He's even making casual conversation about food!

News of that magnitude could even draw the attention of the Slaughterhouse Nine.
*smirks* Considering who their leader is, I'd say that Taylor and Amy will have the best bodyguards anywhere. Can you imagine the E88 gunning for them and running into the Siberian? *cackles*

"So you've both got everything the other had, plus tinker stuff?"

"Yep," Amy said. She then used the piece of bamboo she was holding to lightly hit Vicky in the shoulder from across the greenhouse.

"Aw crap," Vicky moaned. "Now you can do that? That sucks!"
That's right, Vicky! Double the bonks!

She was supposed to have the day off, but then a potential region-killer issue came up.
Ugh... that sucks.

If this meant what she thought it meant...well, David would be ecstatic if it worked like she thought it might.
Come to think about it, does Eidolon's snark (which is bullshit levels of powerful, by the way) consume more energy than a regular snark? It might explain why his powers are weakening before the rest of the Triumvirate's.

So... I just has a thought about when Taylor meets Eidolon. What if his power has a form of BA that it's using to control the Endbringers... so when BA goes to connect, it finds all the connections busy. And brute-forces a connection, ending up freeing up an Endbringer from being pulled into action by Eidolon's sub-concious. Also, I think I see what may have happened. Cauldron and the Triumvirete forgot that they may need psychologists checking their mental health, which is how the whole Endbringer fiasco started. No one was checking Eidolon's mental health.

Also, if Taylor finds out that Eidolon is responsible for the Endbringers... I don't think that even BA is going to be able to mitigate her response. Possibly something along the lines of "YOU ASSHOLE!" And a brute-augmented shockwave punch.

So I'm going to assume LEET is gonna focus on making things that aren't modular or else he'd be able to use a powersource in many different builds willy-nilly. and that seems a bit to open-ended to me regardless of the fact he doesn't have a specialty.

Also, she wasn't the only healer in town before... Othala can heal after all.

Technically, Othala is *NOT* a healer. :)

She gifts an injured person with regeneration ... :p

(From Chapter 56...)
"I'm somewhat in agreement with him," Nadine said. "Though my reasons are not entirely self serving. When I gift people with regeneration I get a momentary picture of their health. I've done so with a number of ethnic groups in an attempt to make the Empire look less outright racist, and in doing so it made it obvious to me that humans are humans, regardless of 'race'. But escaping the Empire and my family is not as easy."
... and then they do the actual healing themselves.

And the most amusing bit of all is when Maul\Taylor asks Othala's snark what it would like her to do that she wasn't already doing, again back in Chapter 56 ... :D
"Victor's fine," Taylor said, enjoying the confused blinks at the sudden answer. "But Nadine needs to grant the last power more often."

"Why on Earth would I grant the ability to grant powers?" Nadine asked, obviously confused. "I mean, it doesn't even last. I have to keep skin contact for it to work."

"So that someone, say Victor perhaps, can apply regeneration to you."

Nadine sat there, blinking, even as Victor facepalmed. Emily took one look at the two of them, then fell out of the chair she had sat down in, laughing her ass off.
(Where Nadine is Othala's civilian identity, Victor is Victor's , and Emily is Rune's)
:lol:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::lol

"Yep," Taylor said, grinning. "There's my father, the entire Dallon household, and Mycroft."

"Sarah didn't make the cut," Amy added.
This is a bit confusing to those who remember that Lisa's real name is Sarah.

Those who remember Lisa's real name should also remember that Amy's aunt is also called Sarah.
As it was Amy making the comment, you would also assume that Amy (who doesn't know Lisa's real name) was talking about her aunt.

I don't see how this could happen. Shaper can't understand Snarks, they are metaphysical. All that shaper can see is the connection to the brain. UMR, by the given defination, only understands what it sees or posibily based on proximity.

Correction, Snarks aren't Metaphysical, they're Extra-Dimensional. However, Shaper still likely can't read Armsmaster's shard through his connection due to the black-boxing all shards went through before being assigned to hosts.

Amusing typo there, Siegfried!

Armsmater -> Arms-Mother :p

Was Colin subjected to an unexpected sex-change that none of us noticed, whereby she became Colleen Wallis?

Maul: There is something wrong with Armsmaster. Lets try to find out.

Understanding/Maintain/Repair

New and improved, Armsmaster is now Armsmother, with upgraded socialization module!

Dragon: Whyyyyy mother??? I was counting on him being socially awkward, no competition.
