Mauling Snarks (Worm) (Complete)

Unless I'm misremembering, Taylor's projections are equal to the force she would have applied if she had hit the target directly, meaning that they're only as strong as she can hit herself (fugue augments included). They apply such force as kinetic damage on the first target(s) the projection hits [will include multiple targets within the projection's field if it hits them simultaneously]. In transit the projection can ignore obstructions that are not dense enough such as air or forcefields.
I see nothing in there that would indicate any reason to test her projections on Lung given that blunt force damage is unlikely to do much to him unless it's several orders of magnitude greater than what she can apply.
You mean "I can truthfully claim to have attacked Lung with <weapon> and lived to tell the tale!" isn't a good enough reason?

Unless someone brought a wrecking ball, of course...

So what, she'll use one of her foam bats?

True. I just wanted confirmation there wasn't an aspect to it that wasn't listed on the informational section or that i didn't remember such as a dimensional component (like Sting) that might cause the projection to damage him more than she would by just wacking him with the weapon. Admittedly, she's able to do so at range which means his passive fire-aura wouldn't be at risk of hurting her, and he'd either need to get closer or be able to actively launch fire (can he breath fire or send out fireballs?).

They inadvertently made it seem like she had to know someone was a parahuman before she could lock onto them, instead of "she knows they are a parahuman because they are in her range". Not their intent, of course.
Didn't she indicate to someone at some point that her parahuman sense could be visual line of sight or always-on ranged/sonar like? I could be thinking of a different story, and her snark-finder didn't get it's own info page.

How DID they not know she can literally sense exact positions of parahumans?

How did you not see this answer coming given your avatar? I mean ignorance and bureacracy aren't quite that dramatic in this case, but....

Poor understanding of the way her power works, possibly made worse by them reading the original power testing document. You know, the one that if it was any worse could probably have been invalidated as having been power testing...

Yes, to Jacob (and maybe Danny) either the day she got out of the hospital or the day after. Which means it should have been listed on her Wards application.

Snark Sense Details
Note: I decided to play with alternate BBCode. Because why not?

Snark Sense/Communication Comes in two modes.

Area Mode
In Area Mode snark sense is a 400 meter sphere centered on the Gemma. Each snark can be individually:
  • Located to a significant degree within this range, based on the location of the Gemma
  • Communicated with individually or in groups
  • Because of how multiple connections to the same snark work, as well as intentionally started energy transfers, they must be done in Area Mode
Line of Sight Mode
In Line of Sight Mode snark sense is within field of view, to a maximum distance of 400 meters. In this mode only one connection can be opened by Broadcast Administrator, though other snarks can trigger connections directly or indirectly (see "Both Modes" information). It is intended for use in areas with a high snark concentration so as to not be distracted by too many snarks. It is highly limited and as Taylor has gotten better at compartmentalizing things she has found she has less and less use for it.
Both Modes
In both modes Broadcast Administrator permits a number of other functions.
  • Interception of probes, master effects, and stranger effects that target the brain.
  • Communication with Broadcast Administrator through targeting any snark 'at' the Gemma, though this was an accident at first it has been integrated as a permanent function
  • "Shared" snark communication channels with Broadcast Administrator, independent of other conditions, as technically all snark communication is shared with Broadcast Administrator
  • Detected snarks can be uniquely identified with an "appearance" that varies from snark to snark, but is consistent
  • Detected snarks have an associated list of "names", with categories for "Civilian" and "Cape" already in the list. As a side effect of this, "Civilian" is preferred internally unless a given name has been flagged as "Preferred". This can be seen with Lisa. Taylor knows her birth name is Sarah, but has flagged Lisa as the preferred name. Tattletale and Mycroft are Cape names and Mycroft has been flagged as preferred as well.

A detail you may or may not want to include: in my city, when water service was disrupted, everyone was instructed to boil the tap water before using it for drinking, cooking or bathing for at least the first couple days after service was restored.

Very informative post you just threadmarked, and reading it reminded me of her powertesting where they explicitly tested her ability to sense Snarks and she proved she was able to identify parahumans she had never met and didn't know by identifying Coil... The Thinkers most certainly should have been aware of that given that it played a direct role in capturing a villain...

And that information likely passed through the Think Tank, not WEDGDG. They work together a lot, they aren't the same group. And if WEDGDG made their initial internal report before that had all gone through the Think Tank...

In real life it irritates me when I have to deal with someone else that should have been aware of something but it really really irritates me when I do that kind of thing. :( But it is what happens and it happens all the time. :(

From his comment, somebody classified it, and Taylor wasn't in the know.

Makes sense, given some of the things that have been classified in reality.
Nah, he specifically says clearance level in the 'right places'. Which... doesn't... quite make sense. Which leads me to ponder that he doesn't have the clearance level to know HER clearance level lol.

He starts as a regenerator, he can be hurt normally.
Not only late... but doublepost.
He said her level wasn't high enough in the right places, meaning she could be higher in other areas, but those clearances don't cover movements of different units like theirs.
I mean, she clearly doesn't have conditional clearance level 12, she's been accessing all kinds of shit that's way over normal ward clearance. They're still part of the PRT command structure. It would literally need to be NtK to be over her clearance, and he'd have said that.

Isn't Taylor's clearance level, to make a long story short, essentially "yes".
General clearance? "Yes." But WEDGDG, the Think Tank, and a number of other groups don't grant access to their records based on general clearance alone, and she couldn't even read most of the documentation without having "Yes" level documentation clearance granted due to a paperwork "error" in her favor.

There are some more details about systems she can't automatically access coming up in a few chapters as well. I don't think it's too much of a spoiler even if some of this isn't coming up soon, but I'll tag it anyway:
  • Personal systems of any kind, including Tinker labs such as those used by Armsmaster or Countdown
  • Anything locked by Costa-Brown or Legend
  • The contents of the "PRT Black Files" in general
  • Any sub-group systems with their own access rules, including but not limited to
    • Accounting
    • Think Tank
    • WEDGDG
    • Any department functioning as a containment zone
  • Any secure area requiring specific certifications, such as the armory without having taken the appropriate courses

*laughs so hard he coughs* Accounting has their own access system? lel.

... Seriously though, that's a really weird system that Accounting and the two Think Tank divisions have their own access systems that having 'yes' clearance generally doesn't get you into anyway. (Black Ops, containment zones would be NtK reasonably anyway soooo, plus the Costa-Brown/Legend thing)
