Mauling Snarks (Worm) (Complete)

I'll have to reread again (oh, what a chore...*grin*) and ask some of the questions that come to mind.

Actually, one does come to mind - is it ever stated who the two girls are working for? (Rope Trick and the scissors girl (forget the cape name).) They mention Nana, but it was kinda hinted that the Fallen were sorta gutted. And I don't think it's ever explicitly stated that it was the Fallen trying to grab Missy. The area they wanted her to move to was known Fallen territory, but that can easily fall into confirmation bias - the Fallen are known to work there and we probably didn't get them all so it must be the Fallen. All we ever know is that the girls refer to Nana.

The one I keep wondering about is what the point of the stitch remover fluid. Those two seemed to think there had to be some goal in mind, and it's not an unreasonable idea on the face of it, but then the guy died when powers were down.

I'd love answers, but in a way, not having them makes the story feel a little more ... real, y'know? Life doesn't come with all the answers given to you.

Doesn't mean I don't still want the answers, but as I say, the lack of answers make the story feel a tiny bit more life-like.

I... don't know if I can agree with that. I had a younger friend who read the Animorphs books religiously, and the ending... according to her, it left _tons_ of things unexplained, including major issues.

And, from what she said, she wasn't the only one who felt this way.

The author's answer? "Life isn't neat."

No. The ending has to be satisfying. Minor unfinished threads? Sure.

But _none_ of the major threads should be left unfinished. I say this as both a reader and an author.

It depends on the genre, IMO. Some genres are perfect for it, and some aren't. I suspect the Animorphs thing was more of the publisher saying "Leave openings for when we throw enough money at you to write more, but don't phrase it that way."

In a comic book world (which Mauling Snarks is closer to than Worm is)? The unanswered questions are ALWAYS there in comic books. Even if it's answered, another writer can come in and UNanswer it. Leaving unanswered things allows CmptrWiz to come back with further chapters if he decides to answer them.

I know this is pretty late, but I'm going to use Armsmaster's try at ship design to make a suggestion of my own. While the Kingdom has plenty of big capital vessels, it needs something smaller for the smaller jobs. Basically the equivalent of a frigate or Coast Guard cutter, for jobs like border patrol, customs inspection, and search and rescue. Also, it could also double as a troop transport, because unlike the FU class, sending this thing in doesn't preclude sending boots on the ground. As for stats: lightly armed(by Kingdom standards); very fast; decent cargo capacity; engorged sensor suite. As for naming scheme and design, give it a ventral profile similar to a Star Destroyer and name it after pizza toppings(e.g. Pepperoni class).

... now I want to know what thread you meant to post this in.
