Yeah sending in our ships to meet them is suicide thanks to that cruiser in addition to being outnumbered. Ambushing them in the asteroids might work though

I think it's going to come to a ground battle, they can't bombard us without a beacon and our soldiers are professional, plus we have choke points and the pirates will have a bitch and a half of a time trying to mount a proper ground force.

[X] Stay close to the planet, but do not engage.

The blatant reality of the situation is that we can't contend with them in orbit. It will only cost us lives and ships. We need to hold up out of sight until they either flee after realising what kind of world they're trying to land on and chase them as they go, or more realistically wait until reinforcements become available and we can take them by surprise.

Unknown number of pirates

good lord, that's a whole lot of pirate. I take some cold comfort in knowing that even if we had our defenses up they would not be useful. so i'm thinking have our ships pull back, maybe take pot shots at anyone in a predictable orbit. We are not going to be able to do jack in space, better to save our space forces and hope reinforcements are enough to handle them.

Okay, so turn the entire world against them? Because this planet HATES EVERYONE that comes to it.

Heck I wouldn't be surprised if the planet was alive and the colonists gave it a damn name.

Prothian/precursor planet-lab for bioweapons?

Nah, let's not rip off Avernas that overtly.

I'm thinking wait until the first reinforcements arrive then attack them. Even waiting in the asteroids won't change the fact we would lose our ships fighting the pirates.

Hope it goes without saying that I hope we kill a LOT of these bastards. They're after children, no mercy.

Let's not get cocksure about our Planet, less we fall to hubris. Yes it's deadly, but we've settled our city in a high eezo zone which the local wildlife tends to avoid. They may not even be here to invade, just a simple smash and grab. Bombard the city then round up the biotic children before leaving. At worst this could just be a preliminary strike to gather information for future raids.

Our best bet is to engage them in the Asteroid field and lay a trap. Our planet does have two advantages so if they do try and bypass our fleet and enter the atmosphere. The higher gravity meaning that they'll have issues in terms of mobility. Their transport ships unless they're incredibly prepared won't be suited for landing due to the storms, so depending on their information they'll either try it anyway leading to losses on their side. Or use the bigger ships to get close to the city before unloading transports leaving them vulnerable.

I do imagine that their atmosphere landing would be similar to the Mass Effect Andromeda crash scene on arrival to the first planet.

the ships will probably the most venerable when they are dropping off troops, what for that moment then nail them, aim for the ships' engines so they can't escape and hey, maybe we can get lucky and knock a few into the planets orbit and have them burn up as they fall.

Why don't we go full stealth and make them think their informant was lying to them? Like power our ships down somewhere on the moon the make it look like nothing is on the ground? We are on a deathworld, it's entirely plausible that we were there then died. And with nothing to guide them on the ground they probably wouldn't risk looking for our remains.

[X] Plan No Mercy
[X] Stay close to the planet, but do not engage.
-[X] Fire at enemy ships as they deploy troops.
[X] Have group of soldiers attempt to lure enemies into local wildlife and plantlife.
[X] Have Asari volunteers hold the choke points with soldier backup.
-[X] Have charges at the ready to collapse tunnels as soldiers fall back.

We need to hold out until the Asari and Hanar backup arrives and are going to need to make some sacrifices, collapsing the tunnels prevents the pirates from using them as a means to reach the children but we can't collapse them all or we'll suffocate.

[X] Devils playground
[X]Move our ships into the asteroid belt, wait until the enemy ships are deploying there third or fourth wave of ground troops then try for a sneak attack.
[X}Have Asari volunteers(presumably previous commandoes?) perform hit and run attacks. Have them retreat by the third wave or earlier if they are taking to many losses.
[X]Have half our available soldiers move to hold the tunnels, with half kept in reserve/ prepped to commit to attacks of opportunity.
[X]-Send a few squads of soldiers with any heavy weapons we may have to try and ambush the third wave of soldiers coming down. Have them retreat back to the city if they can after their ambush.
[X]Place charges on all but two of the main tunnels if we can get away with it structurally, if our soldiers are overwhelmed blow them.
This seems like the best way we could hold our ground while simultaneously causing some damage.

Basic idea here is to hit the ships once they commit, tie up and bleed the initial landing forces with the Asari, then make a big strike on the group when they get there third reinforcement wave.

Thoughts?

I don't quite remember but are ME ships able to FTL in-system? Our ships could hide in the asteroid belt, then jump in, fire, then jump out and we could just keep harassing them like that. Hell we could even just do shoot and scoots if we can't do intra-system jumps.
