Status and Menu though are going to take a bit of luck. They're not in common lingo and she doesn't go ot resturaunt. Not of whole lot of reason for her to say those words.

Hehehe, so, we're going to see a Louise who's skilled with all the Elements then? Pretty bitchin'. Now, if she could only open up her Status screen...

While the word "Status" it's unlikely to come up "Options" is a possibility, that should give her something to work with.

I could be wrong but I think Wardes was planned to be sent with them from the start as an escort.

Guiche was the one who butted in, and at the time Agnes was considering executing him for espionage. him being the third and mostly useless
(and therefore completely disposable) son meant she could probably get away with it. it was volunteer and hope they say yes or his head on the chopping block.

According to the quote, Henrietta went to him afterwards. Sending Louise was portrayed as a spur of the moment decision so arranging for Wardes to go with her before that would be weird. It doesn't really change the fact that Wardes by himself could solo the mission fairly easily if he didn't have to babysit Louise and the others.

As for Guiche, I forgot nobles could consider their children to be "completely disposable" and would allow them to be casually discarded without opposition despite the resources invested in raising them. After all, It's not as if Louise's parents threatening Henrietta was out of any genuine affection for her.
Seriously though, in all likelihood, Guiche's elder brothers are both in the military like their father. As a military man, Guiche's father is likely well aware that there's always a reasonable chance that both of his elder sons could wind up dead for one reason or another (especially considering that there's an inevitable war on the horizon). So essentially, Guiche is a backup heir in case the Gramont family is struck by some particularly bad luck.

So this version of the gamer doesn't allow the read book, gain skill, destroy book mechanic? OR is this something that has to be voluntarily activated?

I prefer the Skyrim approach to skill books.

1) Open book - Gain skill boost.
2) Read flavour text. (Optional)
3) Place book on bookshelf. (Optional)
4) Use Telekinesis to throw the book at that annoying preacher in Whiterun. (Repeatable)
5) Profit.

I've got to say, seeing someone completely unfamiliar with computer games work all this stuff out is half the fun of this story.

In the gamer cannon some books don't work, notably textbooks and theory books.

Well, that sounds somewhat stupid. What is the reasoning behind that?

that theory tells you how something works while practical manuals tell you how to do something.

EDIT:

its like the difference between a textbook telling you about the history of archery, the forces at work when someone shoots an arrow, and the general information about various archery styles Vs. a book giving you actual step-by-step instructions on how to shoot an arrow and be an archer.

And it is apparently impossible for someone to piece together how to do something from theory...

eh, its something written into the original manhwa (can't find the chapter at the moment), he buys a bunch of books off magic!Amazon.com and the manuals act as skill books while the theory stuff has to be read. it still helps him in the long run (I think...), but he doesn't just instantly get knowledge by burning books.

in hindsight it does seem like a stupid restriction... maybe its just so he can't cheat in school?

EDIT:

ok found it. its chapters 35-36 and the website is closer to Unethical!Supernatural!Blackmarket!Amazon.com

Throw it at Nazeem. Of course I've been to the Cloud District! I'm a fucking Thane! Who the fuck are you?

That was quite clever of her. I wonder what people would think of those notes, though. Elaborate cypher or crazed scribblings of an economist?
I kinda want Seista to clean her room one day, find the notes and go 'Hmm, this looks like the beginnings of one of my Grandfather's old games. Maybe I could help? I really shouldn't, but...'
*Jolts down a stat sheet, realises she's written on a noble's notes, panics and runs*

She realised what an active skill is. Now all that's left is to remember that Observe is one and then ask herself if other figments can be activated the same way as Observe.
