The way I figured, if we want to go into the sciences, Math is a good place to start as it is fundamental to science and technology.

IRL yes, but this is a quest. So I'd like a straight answer to make sure that people are not making assumptions and treating said assumptions as fact. Because that kind of thing played a part in screwing us over last quest.

@KnowledgeKing is there any hint you could give us about Math being a foundational skill, potentially making it easier to learn related skills such as science, technology, accounting, marketing, business planning, game theory, etc?

Also, are there stewardship skills such as trading, accounting, marketing, economics, cost analysis, etc?

If we go further into math we may be able to forge a calculator or early mechanical computer. Which could eventually lead to having an AI buddy in the long run.
There is trying to explain how a civilization like Asgard can exist without a shred of technology with magic, and then there is this...

I find it hard to believe that Asgardians don't have at least calculators (in some form) .

If it uses Math, having Math as a skill makes it easier. And yeah it opens things up for like...calculators.

No for economic skills as long as you're just dealing with Asgard. Trading will be something if you trade with other cultures/planets.

Skills: Skills (such as Swords for Martial, or Science for Learning) lower the DC for certain actions and can give traits, if you achieve a critical roll. Each 1/5 in a skill lowers DC by 5. When others aid on rolls, their skills are taken into account and the total skill of all participants is averaged to figure out how the DC is affected.
If we have math skill of 5 it reduces DC of activites using or related to math by 25!

The problem is what do we need math for? Are we building computers or something because I thought we were going blacksmith.
Why do you guys hate Odin so much? You should let Thor cool off so we get the +10 DC off and in the mean time talk to Odin. He dislikes us and if you want a functional family we should talk to him. Remember what happened last thread when we ignored him during childhood.

What does the history option do? @KnowledgeKing

I think it could also reduce DC of school.

And a lower DC could mean that the threshold for a higher level success is lower as well!

Well, I believe the QM will tell us if it does. In the meantime, I'd suggest people vote for my plan which is similar to Asgardian Foundation, save for going general school (DC 15) versus going for math again (DC 40).

we should ask the QM about that because if it was true then history is also a subject so it should have the same effect. If this is about calculator and science we can always steal or learn that from another civilization later. Magic is rare so we should learn it now.

look, the idea that Asguard has never made a Calculator is dumb, super dumb, but i can buy that Asguard never needed to make things like an A.I., not talking just the tony stark type of A.I. but the real world version as well

[][Library Reward] : Math

[] Plan Asgardian Foundation, Round 2.2
-[] Martial: Train: Hand to Hand, DC 30
-[] Diplomacy: Make friends during your lessons...and during training! DC 25
-[] Stewardship: Request Lessons from the Instructor on finance and how to run the kingdom. Surely he'd listen! DC 45
-[] Intrigue: Study the classmates you don't know. Get the full rest of the picture. DC 15
-[] Learning: Visit the Library, you've heard so much about all of the different books! So much opportunity, so little time...
--[] Continue Learning what you touched on last time. DC 40
-[] Personal: Relationships: Spend time with some of your favorite people in the world! (Father)
We shouldn't make friends yet, I don't like swinging in the dark. If we do this we would have to figure out there core traits with only there names. Also we should spend time with family first. We haven't even talked to our parents yet.

@KnowledgeKing
Do we get a background roll for how well we are doing in our classes? I feel like even if we don't study something (history, for example) on our own we would still be imparted some knowledge.

Plus I think it may be more interesting to pick an action related to our instructors if we saw them in the updates and got to know them.

Plus seeing Loki interact in events/actions/at school where he is forced to go by his parents could be something enjoyable to read.

I could imagine Loki trying to hold on to Frigga's leg so he could avoid school last turn.

I think stuff like that may have been missing last quest to flesh out Loki's childhood a bit more. To see what he is forced to do and what happens from that.

About that:
Beside technical ability and practical skills, blacksmith's need good hand-to-eye coordination, problem-solving skills, math skills for measuring and making precise cuts and calculations, and creative and design skills. Blacksmiths and artist-blacksmiths must have a thorough knowledge of metals and other materials, outstanding creativity, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Manual dexterity, attention to detail, the ability to work alone or with minimal supervision, physical strength, and motor coordination are also key skills and abilities needed while on the job.

We shouldn't use outside sources to make assumptions. Remember this is a quest and what we are talking about is magical blacksmithing. For all we know all Loki has to do is visualize the shape and he could get it perfectly. Plus last quest he built nanite by hand we shouldn't use human limits for him. So ask the QM before we make assumptions or we might end up with a useless skill.

It's history. It gives Loki knowledge of the past of Asgard and other realms, and knowledge of the cultures of other realms.

Do we get a background roll for how well we are doing in our classes? I feel like even if we don't study some history on our own we would still be imparted some knowledge.

Wasn't planning on it. If no action is specifically picked then Loki just learns a normal amount of knowledge and information.

Kids have friends at our age. It's a healthy part of growth. And my plan has us talking to Odin, or at least trying to.

So does that mean the history skill will lower the DC of diplo with other realms?
Does math help magical blacksmithing?
If Loki gets good at history can he find alterations easier?
Does loki studying historic battles teach him tactics?

Maybe
Depends on what he makes.
Not sure what that means.
No. That'd be...Tactics. Or...War.
