Primordial Moon: Spell Upgrade

Soothing Moonlight:
Level 3 -----> 4 -----> 5 -----> 6 -----> 7 -----> 8
Base Damage: 115 -----> 207 -----> 372 -----> 669 -----> 1,204 -----> 2167
Magic Modifier: 85 -----> 120 -----> 155 -----> 190 -----> 225 -----> 260
Affinity: Moon
Ability: Heal | Status Recovery

Status Recovery removes debuffs from the target.

[X] Tell the others (mostly to Judge) to stop and restrain Brave Heart. Then run to the wounded MG and heal her.
- [X] If Brave Heart is locked down, ask them what to do and suggest just to run away, as long Brave Heart cant follow us.

The moment she stops speaking, you are already moving; Rico floats to the side and you go the other way to get to where Ignition Sentinel fell down.
"Stop her! Judge!"

You dare looking through your sister's eyes and see Brave Heart charging... but Judge blinks and her eye starts to glow stronger before she raises her hand at the other girl. "Blue Soul!"

It stops her just a metre before you, her sword already raised. You flinch, never stopping to fly away from her even when you look back at the surprised look she gives you. The other two girls are only just snapping out of it... if Rico had not said anything...

But that is that and you are busy now. Keeping above the burning grass, you feel tears welling up by just looking at the poor girl.

Yes, she hurt the people in the helicopter... but lying there so broken, bleeding and hurting... no, this is not right, either. You raise your scepter and call out for your moonlight.

(Soothing Moonlight: +2167 Base Damage, +51 dice = 2,218 Total Damage Healed

Ignition Sentinel Health: 2,288 + 2,218 = 4,506)

A pure wave of bright light gathers around the staff and pours down from the tip, bathing the poor girl. Something moves below the skin and the blood flows slower... and her eyes flutter as she looks up at you; the air still flickers, but... she looks so weak lying there.

She was so strong before, all of this just happened in one hit... just like that soldier... no, no. It was not Rico's fault, she had no idea this would happen. Your spell was a lot stronger than before, too... you can feel it now.

It is okay for you, though. The moonlight will never hurt anyone... you really do not want it to, either. But Rico's sunlight... it does hurt people, even if she tries to not hurt them too much.
You take all the feelings you get from helping and push them at your sister again, just to make sure she can take it a little longer. Just a little longer...

A quick look shows you that Judge is busy cutting down the burning grass around the other girls and rips deep gouges into the ground with her blue beams. Brave Heart seems to struggle against the blue light holding her in place... and the girl that looks like you is looking back at you. Huh?

You quickly take a deep breath and get back to what you were doing.

(Soothing Moonlight: +2167 Base Damage, +170 dice = 2,337 Total Damage Healed

Ignition Sentinel Health: 4,506 + 2,337 = 6,843)

The bleeding stops... mostly and her wings fold back from how broken they were before. You think the girl's eyes become a little clearer, too... and her ears twitch. Just like a kitty!

But you need another moment to catch your breath and... it feels a little weird, draining, to do this now. Not much, but you can feel the magic working through Ignition Sentinel... there is much more than before.

You risk another look through Rico's eyes... and see her looking at you flying over the other girl while everything in your direction burns and some fire already fades out.

And Judge and... basically everyone is looking your way. The girl that looks like Rico.... wait. Like Rico?

You take a look yourself and she looks like you again. Another look through Rico's eyes... and she looks like her. Huh.

Ah! No, getting distracted is bad!

(Soothing Moonlight: +2167 Base Damage, +77 dice = 2,244 Total Damage Healed

Ignition Sentinel Health: 6,843 + 2,244 = 9,087)

Your hand is starting to tingle a little, so you switch the scepter to the left and take another deep breath. It is really difficult to cast like that.

Actually... did Rico drop her scepter earlier?

Wait, really?

Yes, she did. At least... you look again and she does not carry it with herself. But why is Judge looking at you so funny? At least the other girl that looks like you seems happy about what you are doing right now. The cold girl... is watching Brave Heart, who still struggles.

"Let me out and fight properly!"
"Negative."
"You won't escape justice!"

For some reason, that has Judge look back at the other Magical Girl... but she does not say anything.

You get back to healing.

(Soothing Moonlight: +2167 Base Damage, +36 dice = 2,203 Total Damage Healed

Ignition Sentinel Health: 9,087 + 2,203 = 11,290)

There is still so much blood all over her... and it stinks really bad now, with how everything around her is still burning... but she looks much better already. Most of the injuries on the inside are gone and her wings are already folding properly. She lies there and continues to look at you and does not move aside from blinking... and closing her fists a few times and... you think you can see her wings shudder a little.

For some reason, the fire just ignores the girl herself... weird. Probably magic.

You look through Rico's eyes again to find Brave Heart still fighting with her prison; your sister detransforms real quick to get her scepter back... huh, now that weird girl looks like normal Rico.

She transforms again... and now she looks like transformed Rico.
And she is watching how your sister transforms, giving her a nod when she sees the weapon that showed up in her hand.

Judge is still watching you for some reason.

Speaking of, you feel ready for another spell now.

(Soothing Moonlight: +2167 Base Damage, + 64 dice = 2,231 Total Damage Healed

Ignition Sentinel Health: 11,290 + 2,231 = 13,521)

Ugh, the magic probably will not do anything against the blood on her clothes, or the tears or... actually, all those hits from Brave Heart basically cut all the clothes away except for a few strips caked in blood... urgh. Maybe you should not have looked that closely.

Her skin starts closing, though; all the cut bones and tendons and veins are back together, too.

It is... a little exhausting now, but you can manage. One more!

(Soothing Moonlight: +2167 Base Damage, +55 dice = 2,222 Total Damage Healed

Ignition Sentinel Health: 13,521 + 2,222 = 15,600)

Another wave of light rolls out from your scepter, mending the broken skin and remaining cuts and... you know you are done. It is pretty hot and you are sweaty and your other hand tingles, too... but this is okay. The girl's ears flick a few times and her tail curls, then she slowly sits up and arches her back. The wings fan out and you quickly get away from the flickering air, this looks dangerous.

Then she gets back up into the sky, giving you a quick nod and... is that a smile?
Whatever it is, it is gone in a moment and she flies over to the others; you follow her at a distance.

When you reach them, Ignition Sentinel touches down while the magic around her falls away, revealing an older girl with long, black hair and a cute kitty-hoodie. She sighs and turns to you with a lightly wider smile. "Thank you, young lady. I owe you one."

You just smile back... twice, the girl that looks like you does it, too. "Good to see you back, Igni... I thought you were a goner."

"Hey, Moon?"

Judge is still watching you with curiousity and you have no idea why. Was it something you did?
You look at her and she points at your scepter. "When did your magic get that strong? You needed several shots to heal a bunch of civilians just yesterday and Igni takes a whole lot more punishment than that."

Now everyone is looking at you again... uhh, is there a Rico you can hide behind?

No, she is looking at you, too. This is really not what you wanted... still, you have no idea what or why it happened, so you just shake your head at Judge. "I... I don't k-know? I mean... it just got stronger, I think..."

There is a shock of hurt... oh. You quickly push past the older girl and hug your sister, not caring for the rest.

Rico is hurting because she hurt someone... oh, what to do? You give her as much warmth as you can, but this will not help forever. It will be okay...

No, it won't.

You breath out and hug her tighter; it does not matter that she makes your suit all wet with tears, it does not matter that all the girls are staring at you now... your twin is more important.
"What happened just now?"

"Oh, sh-..."
The first voice was... your own, you guess? The second was Judge trying to say something, but stops herself and sighs. "First kill... and I don't think she meant it."
"Oh."
"Ouch."

You ignore them.

It takes a long while until Rico calms down. The other girls talk quietly, but leave you be until you let go of your sister. Even Brave Heart is watching you... oh.. oh... she looks really bad. The fire went out, but her dress is all burnt and her skin...

"You okay now?"

Judge is looking at both of you... and Rico gives her a shaky nod. You hold her hand and poke with more warmth, just in case.

Then you look around for a moment and make your decision, raising the scepter at Brave Heart. "Soothing Moonlight."

"What are you-"
Another wave of light spills out from your weapon, basking the hurt Magical Girl and making her prison of light almost invisible for a moment. You ignore the other you calling out.

(Brave Heart Health: 1,280 ---> 2,250)

"-doing?!"

Now even Brave Heart gapes at you, mouth opening and closing a few times while her skin becomes a creamy white again and all the red burns go away. Her clothes are still in tatters, but... you can not really do anything about that.

"W-What? Why? We're enemies!"

She reminds you a little of Anastasia... always mean to you, even when you never wanted that.
You changed her, so you can maybe change this, too. That is why you shake your head. "I don't want anyone to hurt."

Rico squeezes your hand a little tighter before pulling you back from the older girl, then you look at the others. "Um... what do we do now?"

Ignition Sentinel is watching you with interest while Judge comes over to pet your head. "You. I like you, Moon."

You blush a little while the skeleton-girl looks over to the others, then to Brave Heart. "Let's get going, someone will pick her up in time."

. . .

. . .

You walk in silence for a while, out of the grass and over some kind of field, Ludger always by your side. Brave Heart did not even say anything when you left, she just hung there...
"So, I guess we made it?"

It is so weird that this girl looks just like you, but no one says anything about it. She even sounds like you... you think.

"Affirmative. Brave Heart was found and UES-presence in this sector has been recalled."

You stare at the cold girl over that; the big gun she had on her arm before is gone now... but the antenna is still there. The others give her looks, too... how does she know that?
"Huh... good to know. Keep an ear out, okay?"

The other you says that without a care... then she... uh... wobbles for a moment and there is someone completely different there. She is older now, and her hair is all black and smooth.

Then she turns to walk backwards, looking at you with a wide smile. "Anyway, I'm Mirror Memento. My partner over there is Iron Memento."

The cold girl does not say anything, she just turns her head back and forth to watch everything she can. Judge smirks and high-fives Mirror before detransforming, too. "Heh, good to see you ladies again. What's Igni doing here?"

The other quiet girl is walking a little bit away from everyone, but she looks over when Judge mentions her. She is a little weird...
"Ah, that."

Mirror smiles at you and Rico now. "Iron has some gear to listen in on UES-communications, so she heard about you two and that they were coming in force. Our boss told Igni to come help out just in case... not that it did much good."

Now Mirror gets a look from Ignition Sentinel, the kind of look your big sister gives Rico when she is rude.

"Data about Magical Girl Brave Heart was updated accordingly; she has never used this technique before."

"Nah, I'm not so sure 'bout that one, Iron. She's probably never met anyone who survived it before... makes sense no one knew."

Judge seems pretty... unconcerned with all of this, now that you think about it. However, she is now looking at you, too. "Mind telling me what's so special about those two? I mean, sure, Moon's healing power grew pretty quickly, but you had no idea about that two hours ago."

The three new girls look at each other for some reason and stay quiet. But there is a small creek coming up and Ignition Sentinel has you all sit down for a break. Ludger sits with you at first, but then he goes running after a rabbit and some crows.

Your stomach rumbles quietly... right, you had no breakfast. Uh, it is probably noon by now, so... is it okay to ask for food?

Rico does not care much, she just slumps next to your and holds her tummy. "Ugh, I'm hungry..."

But then Mirror gives you... something. You are not sure what it is and it does not taste very good, but you do not mind right now. The older Magical Girl smiles and pats your heads. "Sorry, us girls in the field have to make do with that kind of stuff. Still better than nothing."

Judge and Iron are talking quietly with each other... huh, no one is still transformed. You just drop your own transformation and thank Mirror for the food. Rico does the same.

When you are still nibbling on the stuff, Ignition Sentinel gets up and stretches, then sits down next to you. Judge is still busy, but Mirror stands between you and her for some reason. The older girls look... curious?

"Just to make sure those transmission were no fake... you two are Vescovi's siblings?"

Huh?!
You just stare at the older girl. Wait, big sister is someone they really really dislike, right? If they know and do not like her... will they hurt you because of her?

Rico shuffles around, but Mirror quickly raises her hands. "Sorry, we just needed to know if it's true... you're not in trouble, really."

"Our leader wants to talk to you, though."
"Igni! Stop pressuring them!"

The two look at each other... and you do the same. Rico is scared and so are you. But... Mirror said you are not in trouble.

"I'm just saying what Knight wants, nothing else. How about you stop putting words in my mouth?"

"But they're children, Igni. You have to be careful what you say."
"We all were their age before and I'd have pretty much liked people to tell me what's going on up-front."

You tune out the two bickering girls and look at Rico. What do you do about this? You can not just say yes... um... how does Bianca do this again? You did listen to some of her business calls before, so... ah, right!

"Um... excuse me?"
You are a little too quiet, but the two stop arguing and look back at you. Rico takes over, she probably thought something like you did. "Uh, can we think about it for a bit?"

Both look at each other, then Mirror smiles and gives you a nod. "Sure, we won't make you do something you don't want."
Oh, that is good.

"But... um... what's your leader's name?"

You can not help but ask. The other girls seem ready to get going again, too... but they do look back when you speak up. Ignition Sentinel shrugs and tells you a name before turning back and walking over to Judge and Iron. "Abyss Knight."

...
Not good. Not good at all. At least no one looks at you right now... you feel so scared and lost.
Those girls are all from Yggdrasil!

You try not to attract any attention over the next few hours. Everyone is walking and walking and walking... but you think Iron is looking a few times. Judge comes over to talk to you, too. Rico talks with her while you think.

It does not help, you have no good idea what to do. Night fell and you can feel the moon's light take away your tiredness somewhat.

There is a small fire in the big shelter Iron just... made appear out of nowhere. You sit inside and it is pretty warm and they even have beds now... this is nice, actually. Ludger rolled up right in front of the fire and is already sleeping.

But you still do not know what to do.

Ignition Sentinel and Mirror went out to patrol the area... and the other Magical Girls are untransformed. You are still a little confused how Iron can be so cold when she looks so pretty.

But... you can not really think about it.
What do you do? If you stay with them, it would be really mean to just have them help you and not go talk to their leader. But big sister said to not talk to Abyss Knight at all; there has to be a reason for her to say that.

But if you leave... what do you do? You know a little about living in the wild, but... can you really do that? Maybe Judge can tell you a place to go, she did say something about that...

And you have Rico sitting in front of you, with your hands wrapped around her. She still looks really pale and you know she hurts from what happened... so you hug her closer and try to make a decision. Your feelings whirl around each other... what will you do?

Omake Time! Whee!

She sat up and coughed. Blood, thick and nearly black spat out on the ground below her as her head turned to the side in a reflexive motion.

Hacking she spit out the last of it and looked around.

An empty, bombed out wreck of a building and a shining silver vortex surrounding her.

"Big Sister!"

Two little missiles collided with her. Ah, right her masters sisters. Sisters.

Right she had… ah. So then, hmm…

"Big sis?"

Her head tilted down and she let a slip of a smile cross her face, "I'm back, sorry about everything."

Their heads shook rapidly as they clung to her, "It's okay."

The other one hummed in agreement, "You're back now."

Her memories let her hear the implied 'And that's all that matters' running through their minds.

A quiet huff left her lips as she let her hands pat their heads, "We should go."

Bright smiles covered their faces before they began to scramble to collect their things.

And it gave her time to think.

She was not Bianca. She was not their older sister. But she did have the woman's memories, which is how she knew the former facts.

The Dead cannot truly be brought back.

She was… a golem or homunculus or something stranger created in the image of Bianca. Not just the image, but in every way the twins could really.

She focused outwards and noticed the sunlight brightening… An Eclipse? She frowned, something like that shouldn't be happening with, she glanced at her watch to be sure of the date and yes, an eclipse should not be happening anytime around now.

Her eyes drifted over to Eva and Rico. Oh, of course. Sun and Moon.

Hmm, the two were almost done packing and-

Her head tilted as she listened. Yes, those were screams. And fire. Lot's of fire actually.

She frowned. No, she was definitely not Bianca if it was taking her this long to notice people dying and suffering. Especially since she was only concerned about it insofar as she was worried that Rico and Eva had likely caused it to make her.

Her eyes drifted to a spot on the wall and narrowed before she huffed in annoyance, so much for a clean getaway.

A loud explosion blew out the wall a stray rock flashing by her face as she tilted her head to the side and another slapped out of the air with a casual backhand from her.

Soot and ash marred the form standing in the new hole, and rage painted her face into something ugly to look at, but… She smiled because she, or rather Bianca, knew this girl.

Bianca shifted in place and turned to face her, drawing the girl's eyes to herself and making her stop in surprise, "Brave Heart."

A shudder and a blink, "That's not possible."

She shrugged in reply, an uncaring mask in place, and spoke to her sister's behind her, "Get going you two, I can handle Brave Heart on my own and catch up."

"Big Sis…" They were hesitating, she couldn't blame them though, not really.

She chanced looking over her shoulder and met their eyes, her own ones softening as she met their terrified ones, "Go, I'll be alright, I promise."

Rico's face cleared and then she was pulling Eva away.

Good, those two were exhausted after everything they had done, even if they didn't show it much. Not that they could hide it from her when she knew what to look for.

She turned her head back to their guest after her sister's had left the room, "You're right of course."

Brave Heart was still staring at her, but anger was beginning to leak in past the shock.

She felt a smile creep up on her face, "It's not possible for Bianca to be alive."

Brave Heart had fallen into a ready stance and was looking a little nervous. Good instincts in that one.

Not that it would help her in the end.

She stepped forward calmly and soft light shone from her skin, twisting and warping her ever so slightly, "But then that leaves the question; Who am I?"

The light froze and shattered suddenly and her new form rocketed into Brave Heart and out through the wall, the large axe in her hands smashing into Brave Heart's guard and then pushing through without even slowing down into Brave Heart herself.

On instinct her left hand rose and she snapped off two quick shots after Brave Heart before she lost sight of the girl in the now collapsing building she had been punted through.

She stared at her left hand in surprise, for in it sat Bianca's weapon.

"Huh, I'm going to take that as approval for looking after your sisters," She tilted her head and waited a moment, but there was no whisper on the wind or anything to signify the recently departed had heard her.

With a shrug over it, she dislodged her axe from it's resting spot on her shoulder and deflected Brave Heart's sword in one smooth motion.

From her spot in the air she looked down at Brave Heart and felt a small, dark smile cross her lips, "I'm probably going to enjoy this more than I should."

---

"Big Sis!"

"Oof. Watch it you two."

"Are you okay?"

"We were really worried."

"I'm okay."

"But…"

"But?"

"... There's blood."

'Shit!' "... It's not mine, don't worry."

"Oh, Okay!"

A frown crossed her face. Her memories informed her that that was not a good reaction to what she had said.

She met her eyes in a passing puddle and frowned harder, more worrying was the twins not bringing up the slight lines of red still receding from her eyes.

Hopefully… hopefully she could help them.

But she couldn't deny the worry gnawing at her either.

[X] Stay with them (agree to meet with Abyss Knight)

You can feel the warmth on your back... it is nice in here. Looking around from your position in Eva's arms, you can see shadows dancing over the place. Everything is so... metal. Except the ceiling, there is a hole for the smoke.

Your sister is grimacing, though she thinks you can not see it. Her lips are all pushed together and she clenches her teeth. Ah, there it goes away and now she looks at you. She feels so warm to you, a shining light you can rest on.

But... this is not the right thing to do and you know it. Eva is there for you and you love her, of course you do... but it is wrong to just have her baby you. You are a big girl, too.

It still hurts... you did something really, really bad. You did not want to and you are sorry, but that does not change what happened.

You murdered a soldier.

Eva's hand strokes your back and you cuddle closer into her, but you do not stop thinking. You have to make a decision, both of you do. And you... you must not let this weigh you down. You could not do anything before, Eva did almost everything... and that is wrong, too.

Big sis said that there is nothing won with moping around... and you get that now. Of course you can sit here and have your sister hug you... it is a nice hug. But now is not the time, you need to do something.

Eva lets go of you once you try moving back; she gives you this concerned look and has her head slightly tilted, so she is curious. You just take a deep breath and lift an eyebrow at her. "What? I can't mope forever."

You poke her with thanks and love, though. You will be strong, for your sisters and for your mother... and for Ludger, even if he is busy dreaming of hunting kittens or something like that.

You get up from the bed and walk over to Judge and Iron, Eva following right after you. The older girls are watching the fire, but they turn to you when you sit with them. "We will go meet your leader."

Judge blinks and raises an eyebrow, but Iron does not look any different... it is weird, she does not smile or frown or scrunch up or anything at all. She just looks calm and cold all the time.

"I see. Mirror and Igni will be glad to hear that."
"Okay, seriously... what's with them that Knight wants to meet them?"

Iron now turns around to Judge and you take your seats; her response makes you flinch, though. "Primordial Sun and Primordial Moon are confirmed as Minister Vescovi's siblings."

Oh... so you pretty much gave it away already? That is... not good, is it?
"Oh. Ohhh... yeah, that makes sense."

Judge gives you another look and then shrugs... but you can see how her lips dip down and she almost grimaces. "Ouch... okay, girls... look, I have no beef with any side, but that kind of thing is something you should keep to yourself as long as you can. There's a lot of girls not really happy with how things are."

That is mean; you already know how it is a bad thing to tell people. And you know that Magical Girls are not happy. "Of course they aren't happy."

"Neither are we..."
Eva says it quietly, but all of you can hear her. The cute smile she always has is gone and she looks down to the ground. "So we will go and meet Abyss Knight... and see if there is something we can do to help. I want everyone to be happy... and big sister is the same."

They do not say anything after that and everyone gets to sleep soon after, your sister's warmth right next to you under the blanket.

But she couldn't deny the worry gnawing at her either.

. . .

It was oddly silent that night. No scratching of pen on paper or clacking of keys on a keyboard. No quiet music played and neither did the news.

All that could be heard in her small living room was shallow breathing, sometimes interrupted by clinking and gulping noises.

Bianca felt so hollow, even through the haze. She wanted to scream, to cry, to lash out... but all she felt up to was drinking some more.

When the third bottle of wine finally clanked against the wooden table and dropped to the side after she let go, she felt the emptiness at least a little less. Less consuming, quelled...
But it did not make the pain go away, even though she felt like throwing up and her throat burned already.

Alcohol poisoning... never tried that before.

The stray thought was chased away, it was useless right now. She slumped a little further over the table and blinked a few times, trying to make her surroundings stop being fuzzy... but every time she returned to her half-lidded stare, they became hazy again.

Not that it mattered right now...

She had taken the news like she always did, even when she wanted to... to do anything but sit there and say nothing. She wanted to go and protect the twins, for crying out loud!

But... she could not. Not without attracting attention. Not without throwing all the work away. Her influence on the military was not absolute, not even close... with so many Magical Girls on the loose, she could only 'recommend' to stay away and make sure they do not come close to any city.

But that did not stop anything. How could she look her mother in the eyes tomorrow? How could she tell her the girls were on their way to Yggdrasil?

Bianca knew so very well that Abyss Knight was not wrong, even when she was doing little more than throwing a superpowered temper tantrum. The twins would know as well... and if they were made to choose too early... if they chose destruction over peace... could she really fight them? Drag them into a better future kicking and screaming?

She could... but what right did she have to do so?

...
Throwing it all to the wind sounded so tempting right now... just leave and go find the twins...

...

Bianca popped open the fourth bottle.
Maybe that would give her some nice dreams at least.

Uh... something about big sis... you rather not remember, it did not feel nice. Is it morning already? You want to sleep, but there might be another bad dream, so you open your eyes after all. Eva lies right next to you... huh, weird. She is usually up before you, but now she is still sleeping. It feels relaxing to sense for her.

"Urgh..."

You roll on your belly and take the blanket with you, then weakly push yourself into a sitting position. Rubbing your eyes helps in making the sting go away and when you look around, you can see that everyone except Iron is still asleep. The cold girl is staring outside, her bright red hair still messy from the night.

...
You have a comb, right? Or a brush? Please say you have one, your hair will be tousled and messy and... ugh.

You slowly crawl out of bed and try not to make too much noise. With how much Eva worked yesterday, she earned herself some sleep. Once you are out, you pull the blanket back over your sister and try to blink yourself awake some more. The gentle waves coming from your twin are not helping you think clearly, though.

Iron does not say anything while you walk over to your backpacks and go find new clothes to wear. Those you have are sweaty and stink of smoke and fire. Yawning quietly, you get changed into another set of shirt and trousers. And a cute pair of pink socks.

A quick look shows you that the others are still sleeping. Mirror is tucked in under her blanket and you can only see a bit of her face... Judge is the same but lying on her belly... and Ignition Sentinel threw her blanket away and curled up on the pillow, just like a kitty.

That last one looks really cute, actually... but other things come first. You kind of never had the chance to talk to any of them before, so you sneak over to Iron. She is still staring at the small opening in the metal shelter, her glasses almost falling off the little nose and her expression as cold as always.

You only get out a mumbled "G'mornin...", your mind still a little hazy from sleep... but the older girl does not even react to you. A moment later, she grimaces and scrunches up all of a sudden... and relaxes again.

"Woof."
And Ludger is nudging your leg, wanting attention. When you look down, he looks back up and nudges you again.

Hm. You have a really cold girl and a cute corgi.
You can feel your smirk before realising that there is an idea you like a lot. Shaking off the sleep some more, you quietly pick up your dog and hush him to be quiet. Then you walk over and set him down in Iron's lap.

The girl flinches and looks at you now, her eyes still so cold... no wait, are those tears?
"Good morning, Primordial Sun."

Her voice is a little raspy and she sniffles a few times, even though her face does not show any sadness at all. She wipes off the tears and looks down at the corgi in her lap with visible confusion, though. "Since when was your dog there?"

"I put him there."

Weird, she really should have noticed that... you narrow your eyes a little and look closer at the older girl. "Are you okay?"

"Yes."
"But you were crying."
"I am in optimal condition."
"Then why were you crying?"

She pauses at that. Her voice did not change from that cold monotone at all... it makes no sense, how can someone be sad and then not show any sadness at all?

Iron keeps quiet and looks back outside. A little breeze sneaks through the opening and makes you shiver; it tousles both her and your hair a little more, too.

"I sometimes do, without much reason. It happens mostly when I remember my emotions."
Uh... how does that work? You give her another look and sit down, absentmindedly scratching behind Ludger's ears. He yips happily and cuddles closer to Iron. "I don't get it... you cry when you're sad, right? And why do you have to remember how you feel?"

The only noise you hear for a while is your dog's panting and after a while, you just look outside like the older girl does. Hm, it is pretty cloudy and foggy today... but it smells nice and fresh, is what you can tell from another breeze. The inside still reeks of fire.

Then a hand lands on your own. and you stop petting Ludger to look up at Iron. Her eyes are full of longing now. "I lost them when I became a Magical Girl. My emotions", she adds over your confusion and you remember what you asked her before. "Just like Mirror lost her mirror image and can never get it back. But I remember them, sometimes... almost remember."

She gets more quiet and you can see tears sitting in the corners of her eyes, rolling out and down her cheeks with every blink. "I want them back..."

You quietly take her hand with your right and use your good hand to wipe the tears away, like your mother always does for you. You have to take her glasses off, first, though... and that stops Iron from crying. She just watches as you work, the cold look back completely. You can not even imagine how it must feel like to... not... feel. Or something like that. But that does not matter, it upsets Iron so it is not a good thing.

Now your fingers are wet, but you just wipe them off on your shirt and then pet the older girl's head. "It's okay, I'm sure they will come back. Maybe you just have to really remember them?"

Ludger whines quietly and nudges your hands a few times, then he snuggles closer to Iron. The girl herself only watches you with her mouth slightly opened. Then her lips tilt upwards... only the slightest bit, but it is enough. "You are very nice, Primordial Sun."

You smile back and hold out the glasses to her. "Can you just call me Sun?"
The primordial part sounds a little mean and Iron is a good person, so you like her. That is how things are done, right?

Going by how she is smiling again while taking the glasses, even for just a moment, it is. "I would like that."

An hour later, everyone is awake and you had breakfast. Iron has a lot of neat stuff hidden somewhere... you have no idea where she puts it, but it is great. She even somehow absorbed your dirty clothes so you do not have to push them back into the clean things!

Ignition Sentinel looks a little weird, though. She sits a bit away from everyone else and does not talk to anyone. You do not really have the chance to talk to her, though... once you noticed, the meal is basically over and the Mementos push a metal table around. "Alright then, let's see what we're going to do."

You all gather around it and Mirror unfolds a map of the world. Her black hair lies half on the table with how far she is leaning over it. Iron takes over the talking and everyone else just listens. "UES-presence nearby is scarce, only a few observers that were ordered not to engage us. We are free to leave, although there are a few complications."
"Such as?"

Mirror turns one of her red eyes to Judge and winks at her. "Such as two of us pretty girls wanting to go solo again."

Her words make Judge give her a second-long stare before she looks back at the map. "Yeah, that's about right. You mentioned that Igni's doing some special stuff, too."
"Correct. Additionally, we are getting reassigned."

"Wait, what?"

From how surprised Judge looks, you can guess that what Iron just said is unusual. Mirror taps her partner's shoulder and actually looks a little sheepish... her smile is a little wide and she does not meet Judge's eyes. "We got word that something's going down in Africa, something big. Knight wants us there to prepare a base for her, so this was actually our last run in Europe for a while. We're going back to pick up some stuff, then head out right for Africa. We... uh... we actually wanted to talk about that with you, too."

She looks away and at you. "I guess it was a lucky coincidence that you girls were around this time. Anyway..."

Mirror pauses while Judge eyes her with raised eyebrows, then she sighs. "I know you like being independent, but we can't help you out anymore. You probably should at least come closer to us, even if you don't want to join after all."

This sounds difficult, but... does that mean everyone is splitting up again? You rather ask just in case, maybe you can do something. "What does that mean?"

Eva watches the others and you can feel her being curious, too... but she leaves it to you. That is alright, you always do things that way. The older girls look at you with mixed faces, though. Judge and Mirror look at each other and Ignition Sentinel is still shifting awkwardly without saying anything.

Then Mirror answers you: "You see, girls... we have a weird situation right now. Judge doesn't stay with us for long, but we won't be able to come back for a while."

"Guess I'm taking Strength up on her offer", the blonde girl chimes in with a shrug. "So I'm going east..."

She groans and rubs her head while your face falls. You knew she would go away at some point, but already? You just met and... and who is going to look after you when she is not there? Iron is nice, but you have no real idea about the other two... and they are all Yggdrasil, so...

"...you're leaving?"
Eva's lip is quivering and you can tell this is no pouting. She likes Judge, too.
Then a small hand lands on her shoulder and Mirror gently smiles at her. "You don't need to worry that much. I've been a Magical Girl for a while... and there are very few bitches as tough as her... whoops, you didn't hear that."

She blushes for some reason while Judge snorts and laughs behind her hand. You just look at Eva and poke her with question, but she shrugs right back at you. So you turn back to Mirror with your curiousity awake. "What's a bitch?"

She groans some more and hides her head in her hands. Iron just tilts her head at that and then tells you: "One word for a female dog, although 'bitch' doubles as a swear word used to denounce other females."

"And," Judge chimes in before you can ask why Mirror insulted her, "sometimes people use it in a positive way. It depends on the people and the situation, really. And please, girls... don't try to do this, okay? You can get in trouble if you mix it up and insult someone without meaning to."

She gives you a hard stare and you nod slowly. Eva does the same before Mirror sighs and points at the map. "Anyway, our home is in America and we'll be traveling for a while to get there. Iron has some mobility somewhere in her scrapyard, so that's no problem."

"Alternatively," Ignition Sentinel adds from the side, "you could also fly back with me. That would be the faster route, although you probably want to take your dog... so you'd need to carry it somehow."

Huh.
"Think about it. We will break camp in a bit, you have a few minutes."

So you sit down with your dog on both of your laps. Eva tickles his little tail and you scratch his head while your thoughts go back and forth.

You like Iron and Mirror is... uh, nice. Ignition Sentinel always is by herself, even when all the older girls are discussing over the map. She stands a little to the side and still looks a bit off.

Maybe she would like to have some company?
But maybe she would rather be alone... and would you even get along?

Or... maybe Mirror and Iron would need the help more? From how they talked, they are far less good at fighting. If Brave Heart showed up again, the kitty-Magical Girl could just fly away after all.

Ugh, so complicated...

You both sit and watch the other girls pack up; Rico is as sad as you are, but there is little you can do about it. Judge said she would drop you off and go do something else afterwards... but it would have been nice to stay with her some more. She talks weird and looks a little mean and is really nice under all of that.

If she just told you earlier... but then again, she just made that decision.

At least Rico calmed down over the night. It helps to know that you can steady her if you have to.

But who do you go with?

All three of them are Yggdrasil, but Iron and Mirror already have each other.
You give your twin a look and she shrugs in return. "We could do something else faster if we fly."

That is true; if you fly there, you can meet Abyss Knight faster and to go elsewhere sooner. If she lets you, that is.

But if Abyss Knight hurts you, big sister will come and save you.

So you will fly, if just to make this be over as fast as possible.

The shelter is gone by now, Iron just... absorbed it once you brought all your things out of it. This is really practical.

None of the older girls seems to mind when you tell them your decision. Mirror pats your heads, Judge gives you a thumbs up and Iron... just stays where she is and watches with that passive look. Ignition Sentinel seems to be thinking about something else, seeing how she looks at the ground with a slight frown.

"Alright then, girls. Take care, alright? Maybe we'll make it in time to drop by in New York."
You smile back up at Mirror and nod happily. Then Rico jumps up and hugs Judge, who looks really weird all of a sudden. "Be careful, Judge."

"Heh."
She wraps an arm around your sister and squeezes her tight, then lets go and you take her place. "Fair enough, girls. You take care, too."

You can tell she is stiff under your hug, so you let go as soon as you can and beam at her. It was only two days, but she is a really nice person.

You take off and wave while Ignition Sentinel blazes heat right in front of you. Ludger has a little nest made for him in Rico's backpack, with her other things stuffed into yours.

The other girls quickly become small specks on the ground while you rise higher... the wind howls a little and you feel it rushing around you as you follow the older Magical Girl.

Then you can feel a few drips landing on your face and look up. The sky is grey and black and... it is going to rain, is it not?

Before it gets any worse though, Ignition Sentinel rises a little higher and flies right above you... and then there is no more water hitting your face, only warm air.

That is nice.

. . .

It is a grueling time. You fly at least eight hours per day, only taking small breaks for food and so Ludger can do his business... every time you touch down, the both of you collapse to the ground and rest your aching everything.

It gets a little better after a few days, but flying for so long gets really tiring after all.
After seven days, you are in a condition to actually do something else... but your companion does not appear willing to talk to you. She sits to the side and only says single words any time you try to ask her something.

And the weather hates you, too. It was nothing but clouds and rain for three days, then a day of fog and now three days of constant sunlight shining on your back.
At least you can not get sunburned or something like that.

Now that the day ends, you get your sister to come with you; there are a few trees near the place where you landed... and a few rocks, too. No UES in a long time, so you should be safe.

On top of that, you had a good idea for your twin; her magic grew really strong without warning, just like your own. It is fine for you because you heal people, but...
"Here, Rico. Shoot at the trees until you get better at it."

This is how people get good at doing things, right? By doing them over and over until they understand how it works.

Your sister blinks at you and you can feel her being tired, but then the edges in her face go away and she smiles. So she understood it, too.

You take a few steps to the side and watch while Rico aims up her scepter at the nearest tree. "Scorching Sunlight!"
The beam is bright and strong, rushing out and towards the plant.

(Scorching Sunlight: +640 Base Damage, +87 dice = 727 Total Damage
Tree: +50 Base Resilience, no dice = 50 Total Damage Reduction

You expected it to blast a hole, or to set it on fire... but when the light hits its target, it explodes. There is little more than splinters left of it, a loud bang echoing over the open field you are resting on.

Ignition Sentinel is watching you now, her head having snapped around at the sound. You wince and look at your wide-eyed sister; Rico did not expect that, either.

"Um... try to make it less strong?"
That is about the only thing you can think of. But actually doing it might be difficult. You try to do the same with your Soothing Moonlight, just to see if you can both get a feeling for it.

It takes you another three days and a lot of unhappy trees until Rico gets a grasp on how to use her Spell properly. You noticed something else, though... your sister becomes a little less bright once night falls. And Rico says you glow a little stronger when the sun is gone.

Weird... but you have no time to think about that right now. Your sister figured out how to do her Spell and you... you think there is some more to it, but that has to wait for later.

Sadly, before you can carry out a plan to get Ignition Sentinel to talk to you on the eleventh day of your journey, something happens.

After having lunch, the three of you are still packing up when Ludger barks and points you towards a small hill... and the six figures slowly climbing over it. You gasp and huddle behind the older Magical Girl... those things look human, but they have their clothes torn and are pale and an ugly brown and...

"Zombie Nightmares... hm."
They slowly wander over the hill and seem to ignore you entirely, just walking by. Ignition Sentinel seems to think for a moment, then she looks at the two of you. "Those things are pretty weak, so you should be able to take them. That would make for good practice, if you want."

You look up at her with widened eyes; fighting those things, with how yucky they look?

On the other hand... maybe you really should get some practice, just so you are prepared next time you are attacked. Just to make sure you can stop people without hurting them.
There is another one crawling over the hill now... maybe there are more?

Neverending NIGHTMARE
[X] Fight
-[X] Stay in the air, practice shooting moving targets from a distance while moving yourselves. Try to limit the burn to only what you are shooting at.

You exchange a look with Eva, then nod at Ignition Sentinel and all of you transform before taking to the air. Ludger sits in your backpack as usual, just to make sure the zombies do not try to eat him or something like that.

You can tell he is watching what you are doing, though. His little snout is lying on your shoulder.

This is... actually a pretty good thing to do, you can practice shooting at things that move and no one gets hurt. This is good.

Looking at the ripped uniforms, though... that man had one of those, too, and... no, not thinking about that. You shudder and shake your head, then aim your scepter at the first zombie. "Scorching Sunlight!"

They are not moving fast at all, so you can easily aim the beam right at its body.

(Scorching Sunlight: +640 Base Damage, +44 dice = 684 Total Damage
Zombie Nightmare: +250 Base Resilience, no dice = 250 Total Damage Reduction

434 Final End Damage

Zombie Nightmare Health: 1,000 - 434 = 566

Zombie Nightmare armour damaged and burning)

The beam hits it right in the chest and it stinks horribly. You can see the scraps of clothes catch fire and... it just does not care for the hole in its chest. All the Zombie Nightmares turn to look at you in the air and shuffle closer.

Eva throws her scepter at the same one you attacked, but it only clinks off its head and does nothing.

(Zombie Nightmare Health: 566 - 10(Burn) = 556)

They come to stand almost below you, staring upwards and... huh, maybe they do not know what to do with all of you in the air?

No matter, you point your weapon downwards and cast again.

(Scorching Sunlight: +640 Base Damage, +17 dice = 657 Total Damage
Zombie Nightmare: +250 Base Resilience, -162 Armor Removal, no dice = 88 Total Damage Reduction

569 Final End Damage

Zombie Nightmare Health: 556 - 569 = -13)

Your second beam hits it from above and pushes right through it from top to bottom, making the ugly thing disappear in greenish black dust.

Only there are still some more and Eva pokes you and then you see more wandering over the hill. From where you are in the air now, you can see a lot more.

"Um... miss Ignition Sentinel?"
Your sister points at the hill and the other girl looks, too. You see her ears flick once, but then she shrugs and rises a bit higher. "It doesn't matter. Just fly a little higher and continue, this is good practice."

They are walking faster now, a dozen and two dozen and more... some are climbing on top of each other to reach you, but they only make a big pile you can shoot at.

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

You are not sure how often you used your Spell by now, but you got the hang of how to aim pretty quickly. Now you have some fun shooting at different parts of the zombies that are still crawling on the ground. At least a dozen are already gone, but there are so many more...

You just shoot on and see how long it takes until they are all gone; Ignition Sentinel just watches.

The zombies never even thought about throwing stones or something like that... weird. Maybe they are just really dumb.

"Moon?"
Eva turns to look at Ignition Sentinel, while you carry on with the light. It feels... weird to cast so much.

"You don't have any ranged attacks, right?"
It should be tiring, but you actually feel pretty normal doing this; as if you were made to cast Spells like this.

"Um... no. I can throw my scepter and call it back, but that doesn't do much."
But your sister did get tired from healing before, right?

"I see... climb five hundred metres and drop it from there."

Okay, your hands are tingling a little, but the feeling is not really bad. It feels more like a rush of more light trying to get out but finding no way... or something like that. A lot of light, actually... you probably do not want more to get out at once, or things will get weird.

After shooting two more zombies dead, you finally notice that your sister is... above?
Looking up, you can barely see her glow in the distance and only because there is a cloud behind her.

Then something comes falling and you watch it with interest.

(Moonlight Scepter: +50 Base Damage, -20 Barely Competent, +1300 free fall, +1dice = 1,331 Total Damage
Zombie Nightmare: +250 Base Resilience, no dice = 250 Total Damage Reduction

1,081 Final End Damage

Zombie Nightmare Health: 1,000 - 1,081 = -81)

It rushes past you too fast to see what it is and hits a zombie... and smashes right through it without stopping. The monster dies and becomes dust just like the others.

Eva pokes you with happiness and you poke her back, then get back to shooting. This looks like fun. Your sister brings her scepter back into her hands and drops it again, too.

And then something comes running up, using the zombies as a springboard. It looks rotten like them, but bigger and with weird things growing from its arms and legs, making them bigger... and you can not see any more as it comes flying towards you-

-and Ignition Sentinel is in front of you, her heat aura cooking the air before your nose and making you flinch back. The large claw smashes her blade away, but she deflects the strike after it lost so much momentum.

Then the zombie starts falling to the ground and you watch it reach out for you without any chance to come flying back up.

"Come on, we need to get higher."

You follow the older girl up into the air and poke Eva with calm; you were scared for a moment there, but everything ended up being okay. Everyone is okay and your sister flies way too far above to be at any risk. You think... these things can not fly, after all.

But what do you do about that thing pacing around the other zombies?

You hear a low sigh from your companion and see her watching the new zombie, too.
"I never saw that before... but this is not for me to do right now. You're safe up here and I'll protect you if it has a way to reach us, so see if you can kill it."

It just casually crushes one of the normal zombies to paste and then... and then all the charred flesh grows back, the fire goes out and everything is... just like it was in the beginning?

WHAT?!

That's not fair!

You grit your teeth and look down at the stupid zombie. It just stands there and looks all smug and 'Oh look at me, I get better even when you shoot me a lot'! Grr.
Not with you, you will win this!

After half an hour, all the normal zombies are gone and you breathe a little more heavily. Your hand aches from the energy rushing against the inside of... something. No idea where it comes from. You can see your light flicker stronger and weaker with every breath, but that is fine. Only the stupid zombie is still there, trying to throw things at you.

(Stone: +5 Base Damage, +500 Hard Throw, -420 Target Out of Range, no dice = 85 Total Damage
Primordial Sun: +65 Base Resilience, +20 dice = 85 Total Damage Reduction

no damage)

Another stone plinks off of your shoulder and you feel pretty good about that. Being hurt hurt!

Eva had to stop dropping her scepter when the numbers went down, though... she just did not hit anything anymore. You still poke her with thanks while she lowers herself next to you again to look. Ignition Sentinel is still watching, her sword ready.

"Hey, mister zombie! You're alone now!"

No reaction, but it feels good to tell the thing off. You switch your scepter into your right hand and Eva floats closer to stroke the left; she can tell that it stings a little... or maybe you are projecting that to her? Not sure, does not matter.

All that matters is to show the meanie down there some more light!

Burn: 3 Stacks)

You just let the thing burn down now, it just wails up at you with some weird gurgling sounds. At least the wind picked up and takes the stench away.

"Haha, I win! Take that!"

You raise your scepter above your head and share joy with your sister. This was the first time you actually won something, was it not? All the other times, you just got hurt....

Urgh, better not think about it now. You look over to Ignition Sentinel, who has her head turned away and is... uh... oh, she is looking at the field the zombies were on.

(Greater Zombie Health: 1,434 - 750 (Burn) = 684)

There are little holes in places and some parts of the grass are burned black, but... you actually kept your Scorching Sunlight on target pretty well. Using it so much helped you find a good way to aim the beam properly.

You call out to her: "How was that, miss?"

"Acceptable," is her response before she points downwards with her weapon. "You should never allow an opponent any chance to get back up. This once is fine, but you should keep that in mind."

Oh... she is probably right. But you are still happy it worked out!

(Greater Zombie Health: 684 - 750 (Burn) = -86)

It finally turns to dust and the fire flickers out. You won!

But before you can hug your sister, the dust... grows back together and turns into two of the normal zombies. You can only stare at the new monsters looking up at you, all smug just like the other one.

Grrr!
Stop giggling, Eva!
Sorry...

...

You huff and take down the new zombies, too. At least they do not take long, so you can finally land again, with your sister right behind you; Eva takes your weapon and makes you sit... which you do with a grimace. Your hands are stinging a lot from the magic.

Ignition Sentinel lands and detransforms a bit away from you. "We will extend our break for another hour. Rest up for now."

""'Kay!""
"Woof!"

Ludger licks your cheek from over your shoulder and you squeak a little over the slobby tongue. Then you just let him out of there and cuddle the corgi. That is nice... and fluffy... and warm.

You went a little further until nightfall... and the morning after, you could soon smell salt in the air. The ocean was there and you reached it without ever being close to other humans; Ignition Sentinel said you went around larger cities, so no one bothered you.

There was a pair of Magical Girls manning some kind of outpost at the cliffs, with some neat machines in their base and a boat for you to take. You did not see them do any magic, though... that would have been great. They just talked to your guide about nothing important for a while, then the smaller one squealed about Ludger and you let her pet him.

And then... well, you were put on the boat and set off; it would take a few days, but you had some space to sleep and do things.

You never really thought you would be going that far away from home... but you have Eva and Bianca will definitely make sure your mother is okay.

So you concentrate on what is going on right now... or rather, not. Nothing is going on. Nothing has been going on for four days.

You are on a boat in the middle of the ocean, with nothing but water and fish around you. Your dog is napping by your feet, your sister leaning against your side while reading a book... and Ignition Sentinel at the front, driving.

This is boring.

You tried thinking about your magic, but there is nothing else happening right now; once the throbbing in your hands and arms went away, everything was normal again. Eva has no idea what else you could do with the magic right now, either.

So you poke your twin and get up; there is only one interesting thing on this boat and you want to find out more about her now. This time, she can not stay away from you.

...
Okay, she could just fly off, but she would not do that.

The two of you sneak past the open door, your target's back in sight already. Eva is to your right and both of you are almost- "You shouldn't try to sneak up on me."
Aww...

You stand normally and pout up at the older girl. At least she is smiling a little bit? That is good. "How did you see us?"
"The window."

Huh?
You look at the window, too... and it reflects Ignition Sentinel's eyes looking right back. That works?

Ah, bad Rico. No getting distracted.

Eva pokes you out of your thoughts and walks up to look out of the window, but she can barely reach high enough. You tiptoe on the older girl's other side and sneak peeks over all the weird buttons and stuff, but there is only water. One of the screens shows a map, so she probably drives with that.

"What do you want?"
"Um..."

Eva fidgets a bit and turns her eyes down, but then looks up again. You both got to like Ignition Sentinel over the time you were with her. She does not say much, but she has been looking after you all the time.

"Um... we want to talk to you?"
"..."

Uh... okay, this is weird. Why is she not saying anything? Her face is all cold and... wait, no. Her jaw is all tense.

"I mean, uh... we were curious and... and you look troubled sometimes and big sister said it helps to talk about it... so..."
"I see."

The older girl turns back to the window and does something to the console, but you have no idea what it is. "Don't worry about me, I'm-" "You're not fine."

You cross your arms and look upwards sternly. She tries to keep whatever it is a secret from you, but it is not hard to see something is wrong. Ignition Sentinel's own gaze gets colder before she pushes another button, turns and takes a step your way.

You don't step backwards, so in the end you have your face right in front of her tummy and can not really look at her without tilting your head back a lot. It does not matter, you will not back down. "And keeping it all in is wrong."

You would not know what to do without Eva... after what happened with that soldier, you felt so... so bad and cold and empty. You probably would have tried just ignoring it, but your twin is in your head and she helped you a lot with this. You are better now, so you should at least try to make your new friend better, too.

"You should be careful what you say, Primordial Sun. I'm not at the point where I hit a child, but other people might. Not everything can be solved by talking about it."
"Like you girls killing lots of innocent people?"

She flinches back at your instant response... and even you are a little surprised at what you said. But you can't back down, so you just huff and lower your arms before trying for a nicer expression. "You're my friend, so I want to try helping. Why can't I?"
"Me too!"

Eva comes to stand next to you again and you both wait for Ignition Sentinel's... no, Igni's response. It takes her a while of thinking before she finally sighs and slumps to the ground where she stood. "Keep that sharp tongue of yours under control, Sun."

She motions you over, so you come to sit by her side and wait. Igni takes a few deep breaths before cracking an eye open and looking at you. "I... If it weren't for Moon, I would be dead."

Huh... that is true, but what does that... oh.
You shudder at the memory of your burning side and hug Igni's arm. "So you can't stop thinking about it?"
"...yes."

Eva wraps around your friend's waist and she holds you both tight. It is no Bianca-hug, but still okay in your book. "I... that never r-really happened to me before. Not like this. I... I never really thought about dying for real..."

It is hard for her to speak, you can tell. Every word comes slowly, with slight stutters and pauses and everything. You just let go of her arm and cuddle closer to make her relax. Igni is stiff all over.

"It's okay... I had that, too. But you're alive, right? I made you okay."
Your sister is a little shamey, though... why?

Oh, she was thinking about grabbing you and running away... oh. That... oh.
You just flood her with warmth in return; it does not matter, she did not do it after all.

"I guess so... thank you, again."
"It's okay."

You just sit like this for a long while, the boat rocking gently on the waves. Igni relaxes, too.
Some time later, she speaks up again: "It's sad that it won't last."
"...huh?"

You blink the sleepiness away and look at her, but the older girl is watching the ground and does not turn her eyes anywhere else. "You're too young for Yggdrasil. Unless you insist on joining, Knight will send you along to Kibo. And I made my decision."

Abyss Knight will just let you go? How is she so sure about that?
Eva keeps thinking about that, so you push it aside and focus on your friend. She said she made a decision... to fight? To kill? Both?

"You're too young to understand", is what she says before you can ask. "I... I heard what Moon said before, that you want everyone to be happy. But I can't believe that anymore. Not after those other girls I saved... humans are terrible things, who even turn against each other for the slightest reason."

You think about asking what happened to the other girls, but the smell of fire and half-remembered screams tell you not to. You already know what people do to Magical Girls.

A shudder goes through your body, but you do your best not to show it. Instead, you cuddle closer into Igni. "That's okay. I won't hate you for doing what you think is right. But... why are you so sure people can't get along again?"

She snorts in return and ruffles your hair, much to your annoyance; you just brushed it and now it's messy again!

"Because they fear us too much."

Igni sighs and cradles you both closer, her voice going down to little more than mumbling. It is pretty warm and comfy here... "Whenever I use my magic, I'm surrounded by an aura of fire. Anything and everything close to me burns and dies; someone without magic would fear me for that alone, so even when I'm a sentinel, a guardian... even then, I can't protect anything."

You wrap your arms around her head and try humming like Eva and Bianca do for you when you feel down; your sister loops around your arms and pets Igni's head.

You have no idea how it feels like to have this kind of power... but you know what it feels like to be sad.

So you just hold on to your friend... and slowly drift to sleep yourselves

. . .

The sky was nice and bright this day. Perfect to just lie in the grass and doze a little bit.
Well, except the cowbell going off to her left... but one could not have everything. Ming knew that very well.

She ought not to think of this, though. Despite everything, things were looking upwards and she did not want to sully her good mood.

Her purplish hair was sprawling all around her, the white robe and red skirt being played with by the wind; this was nice, a moment to relax amidst all the chaos. With the warlords finally stopping to bother her people and a few more Magical Girls showing up without bad intentions...

"My lady!"

Ah, her moment was over.

Pushing herself into a sitting position, the girl watched as her right hand man hurried around the cattle and towards her. He was old, wrinkled and gentle; a nice man who took her in when she had nothing and stayed her friend even after... that.

He even took the time to teach her English so they could actually talk to each other... Ming owed him much.

If he would just stop calling her a lady...

"My lady, there you are. I was worried."

He still talked funny with his accent, but the Magical Girl did no less so. "Just... taking a break."
They both looked at each other for a moment, the young face downcast in disappointment and the old one a little more straightened as a smile pulled muscles taut. "I see."

Ming sighed and floated up next to the old man while straightening out; being able to just fly with magic was really useful for this kind of thing, actually. They got going a moment later, the elder leading the way towards the town hall.

A stronger breeze made a few strands of hair whirl around the horns protruding out of her skull, but the girl absent-mindedly swiped them back.

Two years had passed since she awakened her powers and became this village's patron deity. It showed, seeing that the grass was flush and green, trees were in bloom already and the people looked healthy.

No one dared disturb their peace anymore. Some tried... and she really did not want to think about what she did to them. It was a small miracle in itself that her followers were not deathly afraid of her, considering she could kill people by looking at them. It was more to it than that, but Ming could guess how it appeared from the outside.

She sometimes wondered if it was okay for her to have that much power, but then she remembered all the smiling faces, the playing children she sheltered and allowed to grow up in peace.

This was worth it. Even when she had to stain her own hands to make it so, to protect those under her care.

They passed quite a few people on the way and a lot of them paused to wave or greet her; some bowed, too. It felt so weird to have people older than her be so respectful, Ming knew she might never get used to that.

"It still feels weird", she confided into her companion when they reached a more unpopulated stretch, away from the fields. "Being a goddess, I mean..."

He just chuckled in response, waving off the notion. "It will come in due time, my lady. You're probably the best white ruler a bunch of black people can wish for."

That went... right over Ming's head. What was he talking about?

Seeing the curious expression on her face, the old man sighed and shook his head. "Yes, I forgot you're too young to know. Let me tell you... another time."

Ming was really curious how their respective skin colours were important in this, but she dropped the matter and returned to her pondering instead. Magic made the harvest go splendidly and everyone was working with vigor, they kept expanding and might soon hit the next mark, a thousand people.

Granted, only a fourth of those were actually devout to her, but Ming did not mind that. For as long as people behaved themselves, she welcomed them all with open arms.

That was what being a goddess was all about, right?

The last demon splattered into bloody paste and entrails under Haruna's blade, light surging from it to heal her wounds. Her innate power soon healed off the rest and she let out a relieved sigh at feeling whole again.

Some of those things were getting pesky, but she managed to fend them off so far.

Although... the small hill she had been fighting over was now a bloody battlefield filled with gore. Shuddering, the girl turned her head away and made sure she got all of them. Pain was something she got used to by now, but seeing what she herself could dish out... yes, she grew a lot since that day.

If only she had been strong enough back then... but the past should not weigh her down.
A soft breeze came up and ruffled her green locks while the Magical Girl hovered away from her latest battlefield, exhaustion setting into her muscles.

This was the strongest wave to date; dozens of powerful demons tried to kill her today.
"Just what did I do to them?!"

"I am still not sure. It is good to see you well, Haruna."

The chirpy voice made her turn in mid-air when a red pyramid started to appear out of thin air; it contorted a little around its edges, but remained in this form while hovering after the Japanese. "Ah, there you are. Found anything?"

"I am afraid not", the creature replied without much change to their voice or appearance. The two of them met by chance and got along pretty well; Crimson was capable of creating edible food for her and kept her company on the journey. In exchange, Haruna let him examine her magic.

It was a weird companion, a Disciple of the Word was what he called himself. Not that he said much more, only that his people were at odds with the demons. A friend was a friend... and Haruna was realistic enough to know she might very well have starved during the first week, had it not been for him.

"I believe the demon attacks will soon stop, though. You grew incredibly fast and whoever sent them can not afford to loose anything stronger."
That was weird; if hell itself was after her, why would they suddenly stop? "Why's that?"

The Magical Girl set down and detransformed, her clothes at least clean again; she found some things to change into while preparing a boat to mainland Asia, but everything was starting to get a little thin... and cold during the night.

Crimson pointed in the direction she wanted to go, though; for some reason -he said magic when she asked- he knew where everything was rather accurately. They got around a few smaller cities like that. Haruna did not feel like either risking people to attack her or to get attacked while nearby.

"Yes, I recall I never expanded on my affiliation. It would not do me good if I did, though. Just know that the Local Dimensional Cluster unanimously agreed to not bother humanity. Anyone who breaks this decree will suffer from intense repercussions by all sides, including their allies. Thirteenth Hell is part of this agreement, so this is most likely a duke acting by themselves to gain a better standing."

Okay... Local Dimensional Cluster? Thirteenth Hell? And... wait, everyone?

"Does 'everyone' include your people?"

Crimson did not reply for a few seconds and twirled around his own axis several times before modulating a response: "It does... my presence on Earth is not particularly... legal, so to say."

He did not elaborate any further, but Haruna could guess what he meant... not that she minded the roughly metre-long embodiment of geometry. She wondered why he was acting against orders, but that was probably a little too personal to ask; there was such a thing as manners, after all.

...Gods, how she missed her mother... now even Haruna's thoughts sounded like her.

The teenager just kept wandering; never stopping, never looking back. It was all she could do while hoping the attacks would finally stop.

Crimson told her there was a group of Magical Girls here in China, which was her goal at the moment. It would take a few more weeks, but she could see the mountains looming up in the distance.

She had food, clothes and was strong enough to defend herself... but above all, Haruna just wanted to rest for a while. To rest her aching legs and maybe talk to another human being again. Her companion was nice enough, but... not one for smalltalk. Crimson could be described as two hundred percent scholar.

Shaking off the thought, Haruna marched on and left the remains of her opponents behind.

You spend the next days thinking about those weird dreams you had. Both were about Magical Girls, Ming and Haruna. Those names sound really weird, almost as weird as it is to know them in the first place.

It is nice that the dreams tell you things, though. Maybe you can have one about big sister next? Or Anastasia? It has been weeks, maybe she already reached whatever place Bianca sent her to.

Your magic grew again, too. You found out from just lazily shooting into the air; Scorching Sunlight became even bigger and hotter. Right now you are getting a feel for its new power while Eva is busy talking to Igni about nothing important. It is pretty new that you can hear and see everything she does without being there... but also neat.

Igni talked to you some more over the last two days; nothing about Yggdrasil, none of you really wants to go to that topic. Just... normal things, you guess? Eva is still trying to make her spill her favourite food right now and Igni tries her best to ignore your twin.

What is also new is the coastline -that is how your friend called it- in the distance. You feel pretty good about your spell by now, so you stop throwing light into the air. Ludger sits by your feet and dozes, so you lazily slide down and cuddle into him. The ground is not even as hard while you are transformed.

. . .

. . .

You reach the coast in the afternoon, Rico being the first to jump onto the dock. Ludger is right behind her and your sister quickly runs off to explore. You let her and giggle a little at the looks the older girls are giving you. There is another one you do not know, with her hair bound into a bun and hard features.

"She's coming back, right?"
Igni shrugs at the other older girl and hands her a set of keys. "I guess so. She was bored this whole time."

She is right, you could tell Rico hated the last part of your journey; there were a few books in your backpack, so you could read... but your sister never liked reading much. She could not even go swimming because you were in the middle of the ocean and driving all the time.

It is interesting how there are so many empty warehouses, though. Some containers are inside, but most of the space is empty and echoing. You giggle a little more at the excited barking. Igni gives you a weird look, but you do not mind. Rico is having fun.

"Anyway, where is Knight?"

The unknown girl squints an eye and turns towards the inland; you did not see much of it yet, but what you can see looks like the ruins back home... only much bigger. "She went on another raid in the north and came back late yesterday... so probably at HQ?"

Then the other girl winks and elbows Igni. "'sides, your girlfriend's been missing you."
Huh?

"How often do I have to tell you she isn't my girlfriend?"
"How often do I have to say it until you admit it?"

You wonder... girlfriend, that is a girl that is your friend, right? Oh wow, what a nice view from on top of the warehouses... but most of the city is in ruins. It still looks really pretty... in a way. The light does not fall directly because you have a cloudy sky today, though. It shines on all the rubble and cleared streets and... there is a big, empty space nearby. Lots of holes and craters in it, too.

You shake that off and turn back to Igni, pulling her sleeve to make her look at you; this is interesting, too. "Why can you have only one girlfriend?"
"...um... what?"

Both girls look at you as if you said something weird. Silly, it is so easy. You tilt your head and raise a finger like your mother does at times. "Rico and me are both girls and your friends, so you have at least two."

Igni blinks once more and... is she blushing a little?

You are not sure and it is gone really quick, but the other girl giggles quietly before slapping your friend's shoulder. Then she turns to you and has to stifle another bout of laughter before speaking: "You've got it wrong. Anyone can have as many female friends as they want... but a girlfriend is a girl you're dating."

Dating... that is what adults do, right? Or... at least older children. You talked about that with Bianca before because she was not married like all the other women her age. It was an interesting conversation... and she said you were supposed to only date someone you really liked but who was not part of your family.

"Oh! I see!"

You beam at the other two in understanding while Igni just shakes her head. "We should get going, see you around."
"Sure thing."

She walks ahead and you follow her after waving goodbye to the new girl. Rico comes running down a fire ladder on your way with Ludger right after her, cheerfully bouncing around the two of you and chatting about what she found on the roof. The corgi darts around your feet and jumps around happily.

Looks like your twin was not the only one bored on the boat.

"The free space?"

Igni turns her head as the place comes into view for you now; you walk over a large bridge... or is that a street? No idea. Rico just asked her what this was about, seeing that it is a large space without any buildings.

"That's where we train our magic and how to work with it. No one lives there and we got everything of use out of the buildings anywhere nearby."

Oh, so like a big training area. That sounds really good to have... maybe they let you use it when Rico's spell grows stronger again?

It is really quiet and you are not sure how to feel about that. It feels weird to walk through these streets with almost no one around. Your steps echo, too... and now it is more creepy than at the docks because Eva was talking to people.

Eh, you might as well distract yourself. So you move up to walk by Igni's side and pull at her sleeve, just like Eva did before. "She said you have a girlfriend? What's she like?"

Your friend's eyes narrow while Eva notices tapping in the distance. Igni sighs and shakes her head. "We're not girlfriends. Knight tasked me with guarding her, so she is around me pretty often. The other girls just like to tease us about it."

Oh, so that is how it is. The tapping grows louder, but they said it is safe here... probably just another Magical Girl. You tilt your head at Igni for now, this being more interesting than everything else. "Okay.... but what's she like?"

The older girl opens her mouth before something big rushes down from a nearby rooftop and tacklehugs her.
"Igniiiii!!!"
"Urgh..."

The girls sway around for a moment, but Igni keeps them standing. Your friend almost vanishes under an even bigger girl -is that a tail?- who starts babbling excitedly: "You're back, finally! I was so worried when I heard you got hurt... there's nothing wrong now, right? Nothing lasting or something like that? You-"
"Dragon, get off me."

She pauses and the big, scaly green tail curls in the air, making you stare; it looks really weird, especially with the dark dress and bright orange hair. And are those horns?

"Oh... right."
She lets go and beams at all of you while Igni sighs. "To answer your question, Sun... this is Magical Girl Dragon Maid."

"Aww, how cute!"

But before you can say something, she is already on all fours and looking all over Ludger. He just yips and lets her pet him, not even bothering about the horns or the tail or... or anything about her. It smells a bit like smoke around her... at least you think so.

"Why didn't you tell me you've gotten to meet a cute doggie? And two cute little girls, too! Hey there!"

And then she hugs first Rico and then you; her chest is soft and puffy and she keeps you there for a few seconds before letting go. You do not really mind her being huggy, but that was pretty surprising...

Rico beams right back. "Hey, Dragon! I'm Sun and that's my sister Moon."

You wave and offer a weak smile that she responds to with a dreamy sigh. "D'aww... really, you could have taken me-" "No."
"But-" "No."

Igni sighs and steps around the three of you. "Orders are orders. Besides, for completeness' sake... their full names are Primordial Sun and Primordial Moon."

Then she turns back and offers you a smile almost as weak as yours. "And with that... welcome to New York. Or what's left of it, really."

Dragon giggles and waves for you to follow the older girl, then she strolls up to her side. You follow them with smiles; it was nice that Igni had a good friend.

To be honest, this girl reminds you a lot of Rico; she is bubbly and cheery and huggy, just lots more of it than your sister.

On the other hand... next is Abyss Knight, right?

The thoughts bother you for a while; what will she be like? Definitely strong, but... will she be nice? Mean? Violent?

Rico notices you are getting closer to the center of town and a few other girls play in the ruins; all of them look older than you, but only one or two are transformed and you do not really get a good look.

Some of them look weird, unusual features and things like that. You do spy one of them having a long scar running over her face and over one eye... ow, that must feel really bad. Everyone you pass looks and waves, though. Almost no one smiles, but it feels not really unhappy here.

And Dragon is talking without pause, anyway.

After walking a little further and climbing over a small layer of rubble, you round a last corner and find... a building that is not a ruin.

It is small in comparison to some of the big towers around it, only... maybe five times your house in height? But it is pretty wide, like at least your school. Made of shining metal that reflects the light somewhat and with a few big antennas at the top.

"That's our HQ, if you want", Igni notes after stopping and allowing you to look for a bit. "We built the dorms nearby, but this one was built by Kibo; they've got all the tech, but they share some of it with us. Not the weapons, though."

She smirks at what she says last and Dragon grimaces for a moment, but then the biggest Magical Girl is all smiles again. "It's even more amazing on the inside. Come, come!"

You quickly get moving before she can pick you up; piggy-backing is nice, but you rather walk yourself. Rico thinks the same and gets going. Dragon huffs a little sadly and takes the back of the group now.

. . .

The inside is huge! There is lots of free space and everything looks shiny and new and so many screens and- Eva pokes you to make you stop and you comply. This time at least.

But it really is neat to watch. There are two girls sitting at what may be computers, one of them turning around to look at you curiously. She quickly gets back to whatever she is doing after a few seconds, though.

"You stay here for now, alright?"
Igni gives her friend a calm look and she agrees instantly. "Fine with me, I'll wait with the doggie."

Ah, right. Ludger would be kind of... actually, you want him to come with you. But he is pretty dirty by now... just like you are, but he can not transform to get the dirt out of his fur. Washing him was not really possible so... aww.

"Ludger, sit."
"Woof."

Your sister makes him stay where he is and Dragon crouches next to the corgi. He is in good hands, so you can concentrate on whatever is happening now.

"This way."
You follow Igni up a staircase and into a wide lounge with nice decoration; it feels homey here... and there is someone sitting at one of the couches, carefully sipping from a mug in her hands.

This girl looks... off. She seems big, but also thin and her skin is pretty pale. A short mob of brownish blond hair falls around her head much like your own does. She seems familiar for a moment, but you have no idea where you could have seen her before.

And when she looks at you, her brown eyes are calm and a little cold. You hold her gaze for a few seconds, then look away; the same happens to Eva and the other girl stares at you for a little longer.

"Seriously?"
She places the mug down and sighs, then slaps her own forehead. "...I... sorry, I have no words."

The girl gets up and she is tall, about as big as Dragon is. It bothers you that she is little more than half Dragon's width, though.

"Uh... what's going on?"
Igni seems as confused as you at the weird reaction. The unknown girl sighs again and hides her face quietly. Then she grabs for the mug and empties it in a few gulps before wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

"...Iron didn't say how old they are. I thought they're like fourteen, not... what, eleven?"

"Ten, actually..."

Eva only mumbles her response in the silence, but she is heard anyway and the other girl closes her eyes for a moment, muttering to herself before shaking her head and looking at you again. The skin over her cheekbones pulls taut and turns the scowl into a small smile as she looks at you. "I guess so."

She comes over and exchanges nods with Igni, then offers each of you a nod as well. "Anyway, welcome to Yggdrasil, Primordial Sun and Moon. I am Abyss Knight, even though you can't really see it right now. Do you mind if I transform? I feel more at ease that way."

You wonder why that would matter and why she is not already transformed, but you can see what she means; it feels so much better to be transformed!

So you nod and smile back. ""I don't mind.""

Your double response makes the older girls blink for a moment, then she takes a few steps back and inhales deeply before intoning: "Fear the end and know there is no escape from it. I am Magical Girl Abyss Knight."

A black miasma runs all over her body and transforms her clothes into a black dress with red linings. The hair becomes a true blond and a mask forms in front of her eyes.

There is a sword just like the dress... and you just realised that you are actually talking to the one person your big sister warned you not to talk to.

This is Abyss Knight, the leader of Yggdrasil. She carefully places the sword on the ground and offers you another smile, even though it is only around her mouth. It feels weird to look at someone who has no visible eyes... oh, she just took off the mask. Now her eyes are a bright yellow. She is still pretty scary-looking, though.

Oh... did she not transform because she did not want to scare you?

Abyss Knight offers you to sit, then pulls a few more mugs and a carafe from below the table she was sitting at, then fills them with something sweet smelling. "Careful, it's hot."

You both sit opposite to the older Magical Girl while Igni remains standing and leans against the wall. Taking a curious sip from the mug makes your eyes shine, though.

Hot chocolate! You only ever had this once or twice!

"Anyway, I think we should start talking now. Any questions before we start?"

[X] Ask...
-[X] What happened to the city?
-[X] What was that about the raid in the north?

[X] Find out your Affinities
[X] Meet more Magical Girls

"Um... yes."
Thinking about it for a moment, you do have questions. About what you heard and saw after leaving the boat. You leave the talking to Rico and watch both older girls.

"Alright then, shoot."
Shoot? Uh... that probably means to ask, right? Your sister nods and points at the window. "What happened to the city?"

Abyss Knight blinks at that before following her finger, then she looks back at you and shrugs. "No idea what exactly happened... the place was a ruin for years."

"You're pretty young so you might not know", Igni adds from where she stands. "Most of this continent was wrecked during the war and New York is no exception."

Oh... so that was already there when they moved in. This is... something, at least? You wonder what kind of things might be in these ruins... maybe you can go scavenging later?

"Okay... oh, I heard someone talk about a raid. What was that?"

Now Abyss Knight sits a little more straight and frowns a little; you did not make her mad, did you? Igni looks concerned, too.

"There were some tribes a little to the north I took care of", she finally says. It is not really what you wanted to hear, but at least she keeps going: "The order here collapsed long ago and they live together in small groups, hunting and scavenging what they can."

She scowls and shakes her head. "Little better than animals, really... doing whatever they want, not caring for consequences or what the future might bring."

"...so you kill them?"

That is what she says without saying it and you all know it. Rico nods at your words, wanting to know it just as much. Abyss Knight sighs and the frown slowly leaves her face. "Yes, I killed them all. On a guess, it was about a hundred, with Dragon taking another twenty."

She... she just admits it? And she does not sound sorry at all, more like Bianca when she talks about her work... so calm...

"You took Dragon along?"

Igni's question makes Abyss Knight turn to the other Magical Girl with a small smile. "Don't worry too much, she was with me after all. You know I wouldn't let any of my girls get hurt for no reason."

Actually... why is that? Why does she care so much about them, but not about the people without magic? You feel weird... this is not right, definitely. No one should get hurt. And from how casually they talk about it... does it really mean nothing to them? Actually...

"But... miss Knight?"
Her mean yellow eyes turn back to you after Rico called her name; she still sits straight and the sword on the ground is glowing in a black fog that flows back towards it after leaving the blade. It looks so weird... ah, focus.

"What happens when there's no humans left?"
"Hm? What do you mean?"

Her expression becomes more curious now and you wait for what Rico wants to say; you have a good idea, though. There is very little still separating you and your twin.

"Um... I mean, when there's no humans, there won't be any more Magical Girls, right? What do you do then?"

Now both older girls give both of you measuring looks; Igni seems a bit less surprised than Knight, but you probably said something weird. Rico shrinks back under the gazes and you quietly shuffle closer to her.

After some staring, Knight speaks: "Then we'll have peace."
"B-But they will all die one day..."

Your voice is quiet as you say it; you understand that no one lives forever and it hurts to admit... but what when there is no humans and no Magical Girls?

"I don't care much about what happens when we're all gone. Those girls will die after living a life in peace and that's all I want."

That's... that is the same as Kibo, right?
...
No, it is not. Kibo wants everyone to be happy. Yggdrasil only wants that for Magical Girls.

There is a heavy silence hanging in the room. Knight sips from her mug again and you reluctantly do the same; it is not as hot anymore, but still really sweet and warm. Igni looks back and forth, you can tell from keeping an eye on her.

"Anyway", Knight starts with a sigh after a minute or two passed. "Anything else?"

You both shake your heads and she nods quietly. "Thought so."

Then she leans back and sighs again. "Honestly, I was expecting you to be older than you are... can't really say the things I wanted when you're that young."

You both squirm under her gaze, even though she is just looking; there is no reason you should be sorry for how old you are. Rico is as confused as you, though... and still a little scared by what you talked about before. You get that, it is no different with you after all.

"You want us to join?"
It is hard to stay calm, but you are not supposed to be mean or rude to others. Abyss Knight nods in response before starting to tap her fingers against the armour she is wearing. "I figured I'd give it a try... but not like this. Girls that age are too young to make such a decision."

Igni keeps quiet is what Rico sees; your friend is listening and seems to think about other things. You leave her be and focus on Abyss Knight again, curious what she meant; what kind of decision is she talking about?

...

The silence grows awkward again and she goes on after a while. "Magical Girls are... loathed. Hated all around the world. If you are one and get caught, you're lucky if they just shoot you."
You knew all that already; big sister told you after all. What is she trying to tell you?

"We know? Big sis kind of told us..."

The older girl blinks at Rico, then at you while Igni's eyes narrow a little and she shifts to stand a bit more straight. "And that doesn't seem wrong to you?"
"Not wrong enough to kill anyone... it never stops if we just hit back."

You can... guess where she learned that. Rico always liked going out and playing more than reading or sewing or... or anything one can do inside and that most girls do. So she had to spend lots of time with the boys, that included fighting with them. No one ever got really hurt, but you saw the bruises at times, when Rico was changing with you.

Your sister knows that people can be friends even when they hurt each other at times... but one has to stop hurting them, first. You know it too, but she gets it a lot easier. You just want everyone to be happy.

But why is Abyss Knight smiling now? She leans back against the cushions and sets her arms down at her sides. "I see, so you've still got hope. You think you can change all this and save everyone?"

Neither of you responds, but you would not even have the time to do so. The older girl already continues with a stern look. "But we don't. Every last Magical Girl in Yggdrasil has no hope of salvaging this. We will make them stop, even if this is the only way that works. I won't force anyone to fight my battles for me, all of them are here out of their own free will."

Igni stiffens and nods, her expression growing just as serious. "That's true. We all decided to follow Knight."

Oh. But then...
"Um... what if someone says no?"

Abyss Knight give you a confused look and tilts her head slightly, then she shrugs. "I just send them over to Kibo. Those girls are just like you, they're still hopeful. Anyone who decides to switch later on comes back."

She sighs and massages her temples, then gives you another stern look. "Just let me be clear about this: you want to save them and I want to end them. No matter what happens, we might end up as enemies in the future if you continue with that mindset."

She is not angry or sad or something like that, just... calm. Huh, that is probably how it is, you can see what she means. "Maybe... but you can still change your mind, too."

Rico's words actually make her giggle and the older girl hides her mouth with a hand. "Sorry, but that's not possible. I don't believe in it anymore. Maybe you do find a way... and if you do, I'll be as glad as anyone else. Just don't think I'll help you with something I'm sure won't work."

Okay, that was about what you expected to hear; it is better than you could hope for, though... right? Bad guys are usually not that nice, right? Big sister did say something about there being no plain good and evil, too...

"So... you will send us to Kibo?"

"Not right now, but yes... unless you insist, but I doubt it."
She gives you another look and sighs before taking a long gulp from her mug. "At least that saves me a lot of words I can spend better elsewhere. Think about it, though... there is no way they will stop and you will understand it one day. When you do, I'll be happy to have you."

She does not sound happy, though. You think about asking, but it is probably a bad idea. Silence comes around you again and Rico shifts awkwardly for a few seconds. You send her some calm and... ah, yes. She has been sitting around for so long, she wants to play now.

"I guess that's everything... whew, that stuff takes longer most of the time. With Iron and Mirror still weeks away, I'm stuck here for a while anyway, so I might as well show you around. Anything you feel like doing?"

Rico perks up at the question, but you stop her. There is something you have been curious about for a long time. Maybe Abyss Knight can help you find out?

"Actually... um... can you tell someone's Affinities?"

Both her and Igni turn to look at you; Igni smiles a little again and Abyss Knight seems surprised, so you quickly explain what you mean: "Big sister explained how they work, but we never found out which we have... I was just curious..."

Your voice grows weaker at the growing smile on her lips, but then Knight gets up with a calm grace and picks up her sword and puts the mask back on. "That's good to hear, spares me the explaining. I don't even really get the Affinities, so telling new girls what that's about is a bore. And yes, I know just the right person to ask."

"Truth?"
"Of course, Igni."

You slowly get up and follow her, making sure not to be anywhere close to the glowing sword. It feels bad to just look at and Rico carefully takes your hand. You want to ask who 'Truth' is, too... but they will show you in a moment.

Ludger gets up and taps over to you the moment you leave the room, yipping happily. Abyss Knight ignores him and turns to Dragon instead, who was following your dog. "You two are free to go wherever, I'll wrap this up. Come back here tomorrow morning and prepare a car."

"Alright, boss! Let's go, Igni!"
She bounces past you to pull your friend along, but Igni stops her with a slight frown. "Actually, I'm curious about something. You don't mind me knowing your Affinities, do you?"

The last part was directed at you, but you just shake your heads. It does not really matter who knows what, right? Although it would be fair if you knew her Affinities in return.
"Nope, not really. What are yours?"

Rico already said it and you all get going, Dragon pouting a little but following everyone else; Ludger happily runs along and sniffs at things as you pass by. Igni takes a moment to think, then turns to your twin. "Fire, Horror and Legend."

"The fire is pretty obvious, honestly."
Dragon giggles at the look Igni throws her way and you join the bigger girl. Igni uses lots of fire, so that makes sense. "It really is."

Your eyes wander to Dragon and her scaly tail, which she seems to notice pretty quickly. "I'm Dragon, End and Tale. Yes, my Dragon-Affinity is pretty obvious, too."

She swishes her tail a few times and then frowns before stopping. You... rather not ask, whatever it was does not seem like a happy memory. And she definitely saw you looking at her tail before. Aww, now you want to pet her tail but it would be rude to ask...

"And you, miss Knight?"

At least Rico is there to talk over the bad silence. Abyss Knight switches her sword into the left hand before shrugging slightly; the doors slide open in front of you and your group turns left. "Horror, Ruin and Myth."

Uh... you are happy she does not look at you right now; those were as expected as Dragon's and Igni's. Although she has Horror, too.

"Huh... You and Igni have the same Affinity."
They both shrug at this and you notice a big staircase coming up. Dragon looks more calm now, too... and Knight's answer tells you why: "Most girls these days have Horror as an Affinity."

Oh.

You do not really know what to say to that; is this because of what big sister told you about Magical Girls being weird for a few years now?

Whatever it is, no one speaks until you reach the end of the stairs and it gets pretty dark, except for a few lamps here and there. There is a big steel door in front of you, but Knight just pushes it open and you enter... huh.

It is a big room with lots of pillars here and there; you count a lot of doors on all sides, but some are more curtains than wood or metal. There are couches and lots of tables and a lot of doodles all over the walls.

"Welcome to our dorm", Dragon starts chattering the moment you enter. "There's usually three to four girls bunking together so we have enough space and there's a kitchen area right through the big door over there."

She points at the large door opposite to the entrance and you follow her finger, then turn back to all the other places. "There are that many Magical Girls here?"

Oh, maybe you can meet a few when you are done?

Sadly, Knight crushes your hopes for meeting lots of people with a weak chuckle and pats your head... the iron glove is a little heavy. "Not even half of the rooms are used, but I like having spares, so we built it big."

""Aww...""
Rico joins your deep sigh and you make your way over to one of the actual doors, where Knight knocks sharply and then waits until it opens.

Looking back at you is... why does she have three eyes? People aren't supposed to have an eye on their foreheads!

"What is it, Knight? Now's not a good time."

Rico shakes off the confusion first and looks at the pink blouse and skirt, then at her long, brown hair. She is pretty, even though that third red eye is really weird. And she looks like she needs new clothes, her breasts are almost spilling out of what she wears...

Wait, what is that blue thing behind her?

"I thought you fed your slime just yesterday."
The new girl raises all three eyebrows at Knight before rolling only the topmost eye and shaking her head. "You're right, but I have a headache and looking at you only makes it worse."

Then her gaze falls on you and she narrows her eyes. "Oh, I can guess it now. Come on in, I'm not getting around this..."

She is weird... but she lets you in and into a... very pink room. The little couch is pink, the carpet is pink and her bedsheets are pink, too. There is only one bed, though.
"Primordial Sun, Primordial Moon... meet Eye of Truth, one of my first allies. She can see your affinities and powers when looking at you."

You try your best to smile at the older girl, even though the third eye is still confusing; Ludger is sniffing the weird blob -slime?- that sits next to her, but it does not react at all. Eye of Truth gives a curt nod before sighing and smiling. "Sorry, girls... you caught me on a bad day, so I'd rather keep this short. You have to transform before I can see anything, though."

She looks at Igni, Dragon and then Knight for a few moments, then back at you. "Do you want them to know?"

Rico nods slowly while you take a step away from everyone else, hands entwined. "It's okay, we don't mind."

"Fine with me. Just go ahead, I have to get some..."
She continues mumbling while you transform, picking through a drawer before holding up a pen and paper. "There it is."

Abyss Knight took her mask off again and looks at you with narrowed eyes, though; you did not do anything this time, so why is she... no, not angry. Confused?
"Knight?"

"...Iron said they are Tales at best... I guess she was wrong."

Huh?

Before you can ask what she means, Igni gives you a curious stare before shaking her head. "They are. Their spells have been growing in strong bursts, but there's really nothing remarkable about them."

You look back and forth between them, but a giggle makes you turn back to Eye of Truth. Her upper eye is still directed at you while the other two are on the paper in front of her, supported on her leg. "Tehe, you're both wrong. Oh, this is going to be good... okay... wait, what?!"

She blinks a few times and all of her eyes turn back to Rico... the older girl stares at your sister for a while before wiping some sweat off of her forehead. "Okay... sure."

Then she looks at you and starts writing again, her third eye staying fixated on you for almost a full minute. She stops after one or two lines of text, but you can not read what it is from where you stand.

"..."

Eye of Truth looks back down at her notes and shakes her head. "Heh, you're in for a surprise. Sun, your Affinities are Determination and Sun. Moon, yours are Love and Moon."

Dragon snorts and snickers while the other girls wait for what comes next. Eye of Truth is looking at the two of you again and sighs. "As for your growth... I have no idea how strong it is. It's none of the five known Affinities at least. It's Balance."

It is quiet for a few seconds and you tilt your head at the older girl. "Balance?"
"Yes, Balance. My eyes were never wrong before and I doubt they're starting to trick me now. Your growth is Balance, whatever that means."

Uh... okay. But what does that mean? Turning to the other girls gives you more clueless looks, so... ugh, maybe big sister knows? But she never mentioned a sixth growth Affinity, so probably not.

"Anyway, that's it. I'll keep those written down just in case; it's interesting to count how many of what I met so far. Off you go, I want to sleep... oh, not you, Sun."

Your sister stops while the others look back and forth between her and Eye of Truth, who rubs her forehead before giving Rico another glance. "There's a few things I want to tell you about your abilities, and that's not for anyone else to hear."

Rico looks your way and the older girl shakes her head before she can ask. "No, not even your sister. You can tell her later if you want to, but I'm trying to be confidential here."

Aww... you will hear it anyway, so it does not really matter. Being connected is really useful like that.

When you and the other three plus Ludger left the room and turned back towards the big lounge, Knight looks at a clock on the wall before shrugging. "It's a little late for lunch... let's wait outside for Sun."

But as you walk, you can still see Eye of Truth and almost stumble when you hear her words: "I know you're listening, Moon. I saw everything about you two."

Oh.
OH!

Was that why she was so surprised for a moment there? Maybe so; you quickly apologise to Dragon after stumbling into her side, but she just shrugs and pats your head. Rico says something about how she did it, but Truth rolls her third eye and leans back, the slime wiggling around now.

"It's what I do... don't worry, you're not in trouble. I just don't want them to know, not with you girls that young. It's not fair for anyone besides you and those you trust to know what you can do. Your abilities are... interesting and a little creepy, but this isn't about them. You should know well enough what you can do, but... there is one thing you can't really find out by yourself."

Truth exhales while you get to sit on the sidewalk; it is a little cold, but you are still transformed, so it does not matter much. Ludger sits next to you.

"Your minds are joined together and you can't get them separate again, but you probably knew that already. Be careful with that, both of you. When this happened, your lifes were also linked; when one of you dies, the other is dead, too."

Rico's surprise is there, but it is not as big as normally with such things; it... does not really matter much, does it? Death... someone being gone forever... you really do not want to be without your sister, anyway. She pokes you with warmth and you poke back.

"I don't mind; that just means I'm never without Moon and she never has to be without me."

Truth smiles a little brighter over Rico's response and pets her slime without even looking. "I like how well you handle it. Good luck, you two."

She waves Rico to leave, so this was it. Huh... so your lifes are connected just like your minds?

"But really... what kind of Affinity is Balance supposed to be? I mean, how do you measure it to begin with?"

Dragon is looking to the ground with her arms crossed; Knight stands by her side and has her eyes on you again. "I don't know for sure, but it's probably a strong Affinity."

Igni just stays quiet, but you can see that she is tense. Then Rico comes running up the stairs with a bright smile and you get going.

. . .

Dragon and Igni left you after this, though; you waved your friend goodbye while her maybe-girlfriend dragged her off to somewhere else.

You did not stay alone with Knight for long, though; she brought you back to the large open space Igni said was for training... and there are three girls there now, one watching while two of them are... fighting?

At least it looks like it. The girl watching wears heavy armour like Knight, but the other two have cute dresses, one in red and black, the other in dark blue with black and white.

Red has a really big polearm with an axe at the end and Blue just dances around her swings; the sword she holds is tiny in comparison... and her black wings are really pretty.

"What's that, you wimp? You can't even hit me!"

A haughty laugh comes out of the smallest of the three girls while she continues to just sidestep everything thrown at her, making a few flicks this way and that... her opponent looks pretty angry and grunts at her before continuing.

Knight does nothing to stop them, so you just stand there and watch with her; at some point, the winged girl kicks her opponent's weapon aside and hits her in a flurry of steel.

You can barely see how fast the little weapon hits, but when it stops and the winged girl steps back, her opponent lets go of her axe and drops to the ground with a pained grunt.

She keeps lying there, breathing heavily, while the other girl crouches next to her. She giggles a little and pokes the other one a few times. "Heh, that went a lot better already, Red."

Then she notices the three of you standing nearby and waves. "Oh, hey!"

Rico waves back and you both smile, but Knight does not really react; it is hard to tell what she thinks with that mask on her face. "I didn't expect you to be here right now, Soul."

The smaller girl shrugs and gets up while the girl that was watching the fight helps up the red one. "Red wanted some extra training, probably thought she can get me now. Guess what, she didn't. Who do you have there?"

She slowly walks over with her sword swinging in one hand; the two of you hover forward to meet her and Rico answers: "I'm Primordial Sun and this is my sister Moon"

The red girl is staggering over to you while you talk, but no one else seems to mind her; the winged girl gives you both a friendly nod. "Nice to meet you, I'm Soul Queller, just call me Soul."

Then there is a loud slap and Soul eeps into the air before diving behind Knight; Red stands right in front of you now, a big smirk on her face. The other girl is right behind her, a lot taller than her and Soul. "Nice meeting you, too. I'm Ruin Red and that's my sis, Ruin Purple."

"Half sister, anyway. Nice to meet you two."

The bigger one, Purple, reaches out a hand for a moment, but retracts it pretty quickly; you act as if Rico did not notice while saying hello to those girls, too. But one thing does bother you about this.

"Why did you slap Soul's butt?"
"Hm?"

Red turns to you while your sister notices the evil glare coming from behind Knight. "Because it's fun."

"Don't just do that to people, girls", Purple tells you the moment her sister closes her mouth; there is a slight scowl around her lips. "It's-"

She stops because she gets a slap on her butt, too, then sighs and rolls her eyes. "Just... don't."

So... is this another of those things you do with friends or people you like? Probably, even though Soul does not seem to be happy at all. She is still glaring and hiding behind Knight.
Huh, looking at her... she is not much bigger than big sister, is she?

"You know you like it."
"..."
"Naw, nothing to say?"
"Keep it down around the children."

You pay no mind to Red and Purple; they are just good friends, so it is alright. They even have similar names, after all.

"We should get going... and quick", Knight notes; Soul finally comes out of hiding and folds her wings angrily. "Yeah, you get going before the kids lose their innocence... I need to cut some respect into Red anyway."

Um... okay, you have no idea what this is about. Knight just motions for you to follow her and Soul, uh, Soul jumps and kicks Red right in the chest and back to where her axe is lying. "If you've got enough steam left to be lewd, buy some fighting spirit with it!"

The rest of the afternoon was pretty... boring. No, not really boring, but not as interesting. Knight showed you around and told you which streets were important. At least you can not get lost; you can always just fly up and go back to the big training area.

But otherwise, the city is empty; you are allowed to go scavenging and use all the things... but she also told you that there would be some things for you to do.

Dinner was interesting, too; everyone sat together in the big lounge and there were lots of different Magical Girls; a few were pretty creepy looking, but no one was mean. Everyone gets along pretty well.

After you ate, Dragon helped you wash Ludger and yourselves; she is a really nice person, even though you never saw her detransform.

And Knight told you to decide how long you want to stay; she can have you sent over to Kibo first thing tomorrow morning if you want. But... Iron and Mirror will come through here, maybe you could wait for them? Knight says that would take another three weeks at least, but... huh...

On top of that, your mind goes back to what Knight said in the beginning. That she has no hope to change the world anymore. Does that mean she was hoping before and... more importantly, should you still have hope when so many strong girls don't?

Well... Truth has seen a lot of strange stuff during her time with Abyss Knight, but there was nothing quite like Eva and Rico before. You are not yet bullshit enough to give her an aneurysm, though.

Additionally, for those interested in working on new magic: while you can ask anyone for help, some girls are busy and do not have the time to help you... or do not want to. If you choose one of those, you will loose the slot due to the time spent finding them plus talking plus being shot down plus moping.

Now that you are clean and had food, everything is much better. Ludger looks a lot happier, too... probably because he is out of the bath again.

There are a few other girls in the center room right now, playing games or just chatting with each other... but no Knight and you can not see Red or Purple, either.

"Dragon, where is Knight?"
The older girl shrugs and combs her fingers through her hair again, the tail slowly bobbing up and down behind her; Eva still wants to pet it. "No idea, I guess she's still in the main building down the street."

"A-And Red and Purple? Where are they?"
Eva is curious about it, too; but for some reason, your friend gets a little pink around the cheeks and looks away. Dragon slowly plays with the ends of her gloves. "Um... uh... you mean Ruin Red and Ruin Purple, right?"

"Yes?"
Of course you do, that is obvious... or do they have another Red and Purple here? Dragon squirms around a moment longer and then shrugs again. "No idea, maybe they turned in early?"

...curious. You think about pressing the issue, but there are other things you are more interested in at the moment. "Okay... we can still go out, right?"
"Huh?"

Dragon throws you a glance and goes back to normal; Eva does notice a few other girls looking your way... maybe they are curious? "I don't think there's a problem with that, we don't really have a curfew. Anything in particular you want to do?"

"Nope~"

Eva giggles at Dragon's huff and you grab her hand before pulling her along. "Let's go, Moon!"

The moon is pretty bright today and the stars are nice, too; it is a little hard to see them properly with how bright your sister is, though.

That is why she is sitting on the ground far below while you hover a few hundred metres in the air, completely invisible from the ground; even your silvery wings seem more like stars, you can tell from Rico looking your way. You lie on your back, arms spread and looking at the sky.

It feels really nice, the light around you almost touching you; your glow is stronger at night, that is now good to see. In fact, you can almost feel the light gathering all around and slowly sinking into your skin.

You feel tingly all over, relaxed and... not happy, you need big sister nearby for that... but this is nice; Rico is quiet and you can tell she is lying on the ground, looking up at you.

So peaceful.

Everyone has hopes and dreams... you are not the only one and you know it. All of them are trying to make them come true; some are bad, but not the people behind them. You refuse to believe that. There is always hope and everyone deserves being happy.

Your scepter slips out of your fingers and starts hovering next to you... weird, since when could it do that? You make it fly up and down a bit, then back into your hand. Gloved fingers grasp for the metal shaft and you can feel the light around you resonating, magic tingling in your whole body asking to be let out.

Hm...

"Soothing Moonlight!"

A handful of streams coil around the tip of your scepter as you speak, grasping for nothing because there is nothing to aim at when you let go of them... but you can feel more magic rushing in. Where you had to wait with casting for a while after each time, maybe with this...

More light sinks into your form and you continue to wonder.

Forsaken, the Darkness drawls: "No such thing as kindness exists in man."
Broken, the Dream laments: "We can never be whole again... and yet I so wish for it..."
Abused, Magic whispers: "They will never stop hurting."

Without hesitation, the crying Earth decrees: "If the future is shrouded so dark, then I will cast it away and forge it anew!"

Countless voices scream in response.
Truly, hell was built on good intentions.

Waking up is weird... but you have Eva hugging you tight, so it is fine. She is still sleeping, her body still shaking a little from taking in so much light last night; you felt a bit of what she felt and it was really relaxing, like a warm hug all over.

You look around the small bedroom; there are no other girls with you, Knight said it was better to leave you separate for some reason. At least for now.

There are no other girls your age here, so you figure that the older ones do things you're not doing yet. No idea what, though.
Or Knight wants to make sure you get to sleep properly? The bed was not bad, but you miss your own a lot. Being cuddled together with Eva was nice, even though you did not really needed to this time.

While you were flying with Igni, you had to sleep on the ground; your friend let you use her as a pillow without saying anything, but you could tell it was not good for her so you stopped letting her.

You feel good after lying around on something soft again, Eva slowly blinking herself awake next to you. She gets up first, letting you lie around while she walks around the place. Heh, you can bundle up in the blanket and still get to see what is happening. Ludger stays in the little basket they found for him to sleep in, too.

"Hey Sun!"
You see your sister's head turn and find Dragon sitting at one of the tables, with a big bag by her side and some papers in front of her. Oh wait, that is a map.

"Ah, miss Dragon. I am Moon, though..." "Oh, sorry."
Eva makes her way over to the older girl and looks at the map from next to her; you can see how her eyes flash over to the tail time and time again; heh. If you wanted to, you could take Eva's hand and make her pet the tail, but that would be mean.

Maybe you do it later.
Eva pokes you a few times... oh, she noticed what you thought about. Aww...

"What are you doing?"
You stop pouting and nestle further into the warm covers while listening; Eva is as curious about this as you are, so maybe something interesting will happen?

"Thinking about our route, actually. Uh... we kind of didn't tell you, did we? Knight wants us out there doing something, so we'll be gone for the next two weeks."

Neither of you wants to know what this 'something' is. You can guess it anyway... and you do not like it at all. At least they will be back before you leave, so you can actually say goodbye at the time.

"Anyway, what are you doing here? And where is Sun?"

Eva giggles a little and pokes you with lazy, but this is entirely unfair; you still hate getting up in the morning.
"She's always groggy after waking up... I wanted to help in the kitchen."

Ah, right. Knight said that everyone helped out here, so you would get to do a few things in exchange for staying here, too. Just things like that, helping out a bit. You think about sleeping another three hours or so anyway, but you want to do stuff... and it will not work with all the things you get from your sister.

"I see. Honestly, half the girls here are like her; good to hear you're one of us early birds, then.

Dragon leans over to pet Eva's hair; your twin giggles and you roll your eyes before crawling out of the covers, giving Ludger a sleepy look and sighing in woe. Then you pay no more attention to what they talk about, get dressed and wander over to the big bathroom to wash your face and wake up some more. There are a few other girls there and you are not the only one groaning about having to get up so early.

Actually, what time is it?
...on second thought, you do not even want to know.

. . .

So you had breakfast with a lot of other girls, waved Dragon and Igni goodbye, walked Ludger -weird to do that without a leash, but he was good- and helped carry a few things.

Now you have noon and afternoon to spend, but there is something you really want to try first.

With what Eva did yesterday, you are wondering. There is something with the sun and you, something interesting. Walking out of the dorm already makes you feel a little tingly under the warm light... even though it is pretty cold today. You shiver and transform, Eva doing the same.

Then you two fly upwards, your sister a bit behind you; looking right at the sun is nice, it feels warmer. As if it was actually summer.

You do the same thing Eva did and float around; heh, lying down on air is pretty nice.

With a few deep breaths and another glance at the bright eye in the sky, you close your own eyes and let the light flow around you. It tickles a bit before slowly flowing through your skin and filling you with a nice warmth.

Eva's light felt like a warm hug, yours feels more like a hot bath. Less comfy, but easing your muscles a lot more. Your sister hums in your thoughts and you shoo her, enjoying the sun on your belly.

People do bad things at times, yes. People are scary at times... but they are not just evil. You get that now. Some people just hurt so much they see no other way.

And you want to help. To try your best to make sure everyone can be happy in the end. Your family's faces flash in front of you, reminding you of where you are. Not with them, that is. You want to see them again, your mother and your big sister. You will see them again.

But right now, you are filled with light and know it wants out.

Huh? Why is there a-
"Hey there."
-shadow. You open your eyes and blink up at Soul a few times, the older girl flapping gently a bit above you; the sun behind her makes her shine, but you can still see her well. She is smiling.

"You know, sunbathing at three hundred metres above the ground is new. You're pretty lucky you don't actually have to keep yourself in the air like I do."

"But we didn't get pretty wings."
You shift back into a standing position while answering, Eva nodding while floating next to you; why did she not see Soul? I had my eyes closed, too. Oh.

"Pretty? Huh, I guess... you do have wings, though."
"But those are cute, not pretty!"

Why do you always have to explain obvious things to people? Soul just stares at you for a moment, then she snorts and shakes her head. "Okay, fine. Do you have anything to do?"

When you both shake your heads, Soul comes down to eye-level with you and holds out a hand. "Then how about some training? I heard you're new."

That is... "That's really nice of you." Eva!
You nod in agreement with your sister, even if she cut off your own thought just like that. However, you are still so full of light... where is... ah, there.

Soul raises an eyebrow and smirks at you before turning around and flying towards the training field. You follow her. But when you are halfway there, you try using all the light.

"Scorching Sunlight."
A beam rushes from the tip of your scepter, sucking out the light you already had... but not all of it.

(Scorching Sunlight: +2560 Base Damage, +76 dice = 2,636 Total Damage
Wall: +150 Base Resilience, no dice = 150 Total Damage Reduction

2,486 Final End Damage

Wall Health: 700 - 2,486 = -1,786)

It hits one of the few walls still standing and explodes it into thousands of little pieces. Light trickles in again, but you just aim elsewhere instead of waiting. "Scorching Sunlight!"

Another beam comes and plows through the ground before puffing out; you can feel more of the light going away, but this... this was a weird feeling.

When you reach Soul, the winged girl winks at you. "Nice show there, Sun. That looks promising, so make sure to train well."

"'Kay!"

She giggles for some reason, then pushes her sword into the ground; the concrete gives without much protest, a few cracks now around the blade. "Okay... you're new, so we should start slow. Try tapping me with those staves."

Huh? What? That is no training at all, that is playing tag!

You pout at Soul and cross your arms. "You're not taking us serious!"
Eva looks between you and her for a moment, then she nods slowly and makes her lower lip wobble a little. You can tell she does not feel like pouting, though.

"Now, now... it's more like... uh..."
Soul sighs and walks closer to you, waving her hands around. "I don't know how good you are, but I know I'm one of the strongest girls here."

Now she stands right in front of you, still babbling: "But I don't want to hurt you girls by over-"
"..."
"..."
"..."

Soul stares down at your pleased smirk, then at your scepter tapping her belly. She looks back at you and you can see how she tries not to smile; every time she wants to frown, the corners of her lips curl back up. Eyebrows rise and fall and in the end, Soul sighs and ruffles your hair. "You sly little devil."

You let her this time; you know you earned the messy hair. Eva giggles openly now.

"Okay, you made your point. Go get ready, we start out with an actual spar."

Soul lets go of you, walks back and pulls her sword out of the ground. When she turns around, she holds it ready and pointed at you. "Try to tap me again."

So you do; you both charge at her together and swing, just like you practiced to.

(Sunlight Scepter: +22 Base Damage, +99 dice = 121 Damage
Moonlight Scepter: +170 Base Damage, +21 dice = 191 Damage

312 Synchronised Damage, +156 Advanced Connection = 468 Total Damage

Target is not there.

No damage)

You move together, swinging in from both sides so you can definitely hit her... but Soul just leaps over both of your swings and gets back to the ground after you passed her. When you turn to look, she has this knowing smirk on her face.

You try to hit her again and again and again and again and a lot more agains, but Soul just steps around, above or below everything. She is so fast you can barely see her at some times.

Then, after a while of this going on, she flips over your latest attempt and kicks you in the chest; you go flying with a pained groan and only barely manage to not land on your back, but Soul slides around Eva and brings down her sword.

(Soulsword: +2000 Base Damage, -1000 Blunt Side, dice suppressed = 1,000 Total Damage
Primordial Sun: +105 Base Resilience, +67 dice = 172 Total Damage Reduction

828 Final End Damage

Primordial Sun Health: 1,100 - 828 = 272)

You hit the ground with a shriek, pain blossoming from your stomach where she hit you. Tears come to your eyes, but you blink them away and get back up-

(Soulsword: +2000 Base Damage, -1000 Blunt Side, dice suppressed = 1,000 Total Damage
Primordial Moon: +155 Base Resilience, +15 dice = 170 Total Damage Reduction

830 Final End Damage

Primordial Moon Health: 850 - 830 = 20)

-only to hear Eva cry out in pain; you can feel a stinging in your side for a moment, but then it goes away and your sister is on the ground, too.

Ugh, that hurts... not as bad as what happened before, but it still hurts.

Soul stands before both of you, her sword lowered. "See? I haven't even started. But I don't mind teaching you a few things if you want. You can ask Knight, too. She usually isn't around for long periods of time, but she never minds helping out."

You both get up while she talks; there is no need to look at each other, you know what you want.

And your defiant looks tell Soul the same; she shrugs and gets up again. "Alright, just keep in mind what I said."

"Soothing Moonlight."

A wave of pleasant feelings rolls through you and takes the pain away, making you sigh. Soul turns to look at your sister before nodding and grimacing. "So Moon is a healer... I see."

A few hours later, the two of you sit at one of the tables and have dinner; your everything hurts from exercise, even after Eva healed away the pain from being hit over and over. Soul was really, really mean...

But you kind of made her hit you over and over because you refused to stay down, so you can not even blame her. But you want to...

Ugh... and you don't get what Red was talking about; when she saw you and how disheveled you were -still transformed, you really do not want to feel all this without your suit-, she said something neither of you heard and was dragged away by Purple.

Dragon and Igni are not here, either.

So... what do you do now?

Not All is Equal, Watch Out For Non-Multipliers
... Why do I get the feeling this is going to go the way or Ar Tinelico? Omnicide for everyone!
Well... considering that I only ever heard of Ar Tonelico... I have no idea.

Let me tell you that interesting things are about to set in motion, though.

By the way, I was told I should rather clarify something regarding the multipliers Moon can suppress now.
You see, there are two types of increasing damage.

One is additional damage:

(Test Sword: +500 Base Damage, +250 Ability A, no dice = 750 Total Damage)
The above has 50% Base Damage added to the attack by Ability A; this is a damage increase, not a multiplication.

All is Equal only negates the second type, which is damage multipliers:
(Test Hammer: +500 Base Damage, no dice, x3 Crush = 1,500 Total Damage)

In this case, Eva could decide to negate Crush.
(Test Hammer: +500 Base Damage, no dice, x3 Crush = 500 Total Damage)

Of note also, every last Slayer Ability counts as additional damage, not as a multiplier.

PRIMORDIAL Training Montage
[X] [Evening] Maybe you can do something with your Affinities?

[X] Training with Soul Queller
[X] Training with Abyss Knight
[X] Getting to know the girls

You ponder for a moment, but what Truth told you is still on your mind. Or rather, what everyone told you.

Rico perks up over your thoughts and mood; with all the training you did, neither of you feels like doing any more work. But... just sitting under the moon and thinking a bit, that sounds nice. All your aching muscles can relax then.

So once you are done eating, you get up and wander back outside, looking around for a nice place to sit. You find an open street just a few corners away, the houses at some point broken down entirely to form a large gap. Ludger does follow you, but he stays away and leaves you be.

This is where you sit down, neither of you transformed. Rico puts an arm around your shoulder and you rest your head on hers, the warmth of your bodies mixing where you touch. Comfortable like this, you let your thoughts wander.

Aside from the Affinities for sun and moon, you have Love and Determination... and big sister said that the Affinities are really important for your magic. It is difficult to think about how you could make a love-spell, though... or how Rico could make something out of determination.

They feel right, though. You feel happy being around people, tending to them and caring for them. Rico is always right there, not backing down from anything. Even if she goes and gets herself hurt.

Then there is Balance. Your growth-Affinity.
Balance. That means to make sure something stands properly without falling over to one side, right?

Rico pulls a loose stone from the ground and puts it on its edge; it tips over to the right and clacks back to the ground at once and your sister pouts for a moment.

But why is this your growth? And what does it mean?

You both try making the stone stand on its side, but it does not want to. Then you try turning it onto the other side... that is easier, now it actually stands because it has a flat part there.

So... does Balance mean to find a balance?

Rico takes the stone again and hits the mean side against the ground a few times until it breaks, then leaves it standing there on the almost flat part she just made.

Or does Balance mean to make one?

Huh.

You can feel something crawl deep within you, responding to your musings. But you have no idea what its answer is. Or maybe you are just sleepy...

Rico squeezes you a little tighter against her and pets your head while you hug her side and nuzzle her cheek. This is your Affinity, no matter what it means. You will have to find out what it does later.

Right now... you yawn and slowly help your sister help you up. So tired...

But when you get back to the dorm and fall into your bed, the aches in your arms and legs and tummies, and backs and... and lots of other places grow stronger again, making you wince.

This was a hard day.

But... you feel good, too. Soul was definitely surprised and happy with how well you did. Or... uh... how long you fought back, maybe?

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

You get started the next morning, right after breakfast. After having to help out with some stuff, you went to find Knight and asked her to teach you things. She seemed surprised at first, but said yes and took you out to train.

You started slow in your training with her, Knight giving you tips on how to stand and how to swing better. Heh, you got the hang of it after a while. But then she started having you do more and more and you sparred a bit and she is really, really strong. Nothing you did had any effect on her.

After that and some lunch, you went to find Soul and asked her for more training, too. She was even more surprised than Knight, but helped you out like the nice older girl she is.

Now in the evening, both you and Rico sit on the floor... hurting all over again. Soul stands right in front of you, her sword held low in one hand and sheepishly petting your heads as you groan and try to move.

"Sorry about that... you two are pretty stubborn, you know?"

Rico glares at her, but Soul only giggles and sighs. "I guess you'll be back tomorrow?"
This time, you both nod; even though your neck hurts from doing so. "Figures... but okay, I don't mind. You have to share with Red, though."

Not that either of you would mind that; Red is a nice person from what you saw, even if she does weird things.

Soul looks up at the orange sky and back to you, then she shakes her head again... but this time with a smile. She folds her wings and sits down before you, then scoops you both up so you can lean against her. "You should sit and recover for a while... mind if I keep you company?"

You just snuggle against her side and hum in response, Rico does the same on her other side. Soul is warm. And comfy. "I take that as a no."

You just sit together and enjoy the evening sun for a bit, happy as you are while your muscles burn all over. It starts to get better after a while, though. Not good-better, but not-as-bad-better.

"Soul?"
"Hm?"
Rico lets go of her a little so she can look properly, but you stay nestled into the older girl's side; you can see through your sister's eyes anyway. "Why are you here with Yggdrasil?"

"Oh..."
Her arm around you grows a little tense, but she relaxes quickly and draws you in a little closer. "I guess... I don't really have a reason. I'm not a member, either. It's just, Knight helped me out when I needed the help and gave me a place to stay. I could go to Kibo, but these girls are all so reckless... so I'm staying here to make sure the city is safe. I'm a sentry, if you want."

"A sentry?"
"Uh... a guard, basically. My job is patrolling the place and keeping it safe when the other girls go out to... uh... hunt."
"Oh."

That sounds nice... better than having to go and hurt people. You like the idea. And it means that Soul does not like hurting people, either. She is a nice person after all.

"That's really nice of you."
Rico hums in agreement and snuggles close again. Soul just chuckles and gives you a squeeze. "I guess so."

Another morning goes by with Knight; she just bops you on the head with a gloved hand whenever you try hitting her, making you lose focus and miss the swing.

During one break, Rico decides it is okay to be a little curious and sits next to her... but Knight shuffles away without saying anything. Rico wants to shuffle after her, but you poke her to make her stop. No one said anything about that kind of thing, but you are sure it is not okay to bother her.

"Are you okay?"
So Rico just talks instead, that is fine. You continue lying on the ground and having the faint sunlight dry your sweat; it is cloudy today, so there is not much. At least it is warm outside.

Knight stays quiet for a while, your panting being the only sound around aside from a few birds. They are not the only animals though, you saw some cats and dogs before, too... they looked so thin.

You get your mind back to the present when Knight speaks up: "I'm fine. Just... please don't touch me."

Huh... weird.
You turn your head a little so you can see her from where you lie on the ground, but with how her skin glows a little while transformed and all the shadows dancing over her armour and the mask on her face, you can not tell what she thinks.

It would be mean to continue asking, so Rico stops and stays where she is. "Okay."
"Thank you."

Neither of you speaks about it again, but Knight soon gets up and has you continue the exercise.

It is raining... and not just a little bit. A week passed since you came here and it was really, really tiring. Rico took it a bit better than you did with how much she likes sports anyway, but she is happy about the forced break anyway. None of you want to swing weapons around inside.

There are not many people around today; most went out of the city to do something you do not want to think about overly much. It is... not easy to know what they are doing and not say anything about it, but you know that would not change anything.

So instead, you focus on the dog you are petting to get your mind off of this. No, wait... Rico is petting the dog, you have him curled up on your lap.

The constant patter of raindrops hitting the roof makes you sleepy, too... that is until you see Ruin Purple striding out of her room and up the stairs with quick steps. She and Red and Knight are the only people around today... and Soul, but Soul is sleeping the day away until the rain stops.

Rico perks up, too... and after a moment, you slowly hush Ludger out of your lap and tell him to wait. Then both of you transform and follow Purple outside. Flying right above the ground is fun, you make no noise following the older girl around... but the rain comes pretty strongly and hits you all over. And the lingering pain in your muscles makes you wince anyway.

It takes a minute or two before you are both soaking wet and so is Purple... but this is harder to see because she has armour. It glistens a little, much like your own.

One turn, two turns, three turns, down the street... huh, she stopped.
"Why are you following me?"

Then she turns around and looks at you with a frown; was that wrong?
Rico hovers closer and looks up at her. "You shouldn't go out when it rains. Is something wrong?"

You come to stay next to your twin while Purple looks at her. Then the older girl closes her eyes and wipes some water off of her forehead. "No, I just need some time to cool down. Red can be... tiring at times."

Huh, you get that. Playing with Rico used to tire you out, too. Ignoring her pouting at you, you give Purple a little nod. "That makes sense... but why are you out in the rain?"

You have to be a lot louder than normal to be heard over the falling water, but Purple hears you and looks around at the broken streets and buildings. Her hands open and close a few times, but then she lowers her head.

"...you know what? Fine, we did have a fight. Not about anything serious and it happens once in a while... but I don't want to stay around until we both calmed down again."

Oh.
So they are mad at each other? And Purple is going away to come back later and... that is weird. You take another glance at Rico and try to remember, but there was never a time where you got really mad at her.

Or she at you.

You really do not know what to say to that, so you do what feels right; moving forward and giving Purple a hug around the waist. You barely get your arms all around her with how bulky her armour is, but she does not stop you. After a moment, Rico hugs her, too.

Purple sighs and lets you stay like this for a while, ignoring the patter of the rain on your heads, shoulders and backs. It clonks funnily on her armour, though. "It's nice of you to try cheering me up, but I just need some time to myself. Thank you."

You take the hint and let go, allowing her to walk away alone. Once Purple vanished around a corner, you turn to your sister and wonder... maybe you should make sure Red is okay, too? She is always so happy and cheerful when you see her, but so is Rico and you know how she gets when she is down.

So you wander back through the rain, shivering a tiny bit about the cold water running through your armour and finding a way into it somehow. It is okay though, you just detransform once you are under the roof and all of it is gone.

When you enter however, Red is sitting at one of the tables and... oh, she has Ludger wrapped in a hug. Okay, that is fine, too. You smile at your dog and go do something else, he has everything under control.

Maybe you can finish that book today?

At least you start to get the hang of it. Soul is a hard teacher, but she is good, too. You are way too slow to dance around everything like she does -and not at all as pretty while doing it-, but you and Rico slowly start to get around a few of her swings.

Red is with you, too; she takes lessons from Soul and helps you train, going slow so you can tell when to jump away more easily. Rolling is made a little easier because you can fly.

It is exhausting, especially after the sessions with Knight, but you feel good being able to make it. Your muscles hurt less and less.

"Okay, time for a break."
Both of you and Red sink to the ground with happy sighs, a smiling Purple watching the whole thing from the sideline. It looks like they get along again after what happened yesterday.

"I'm happy that you made up."
"Hm? What do you mean?"

Red gives Rico a curious look and your sister tilts her head in response. You help her. "You and Purple had a fight, right?"

Purple's smile grows a little smaller and a hard line shows up around her eyes while Red blinks a few times and then shrugs. "Eh, that kind of thing happens once in a while. Don't think about it too much. Besides, the -ouch!"

Whatever she wanted to say, Soul hits her over the head with the flat side of her sword and gives her a glare. "I can guess what you wanted to say there. Not around children."

She does open her mouth again, but a warning glare from Soul makes Red stop and sigh. "Alright, fine. You're no fun, you know?"

"You, uh, you know we can hear you?"
Soul turns to you and shrugs, even though the fact that girls just a bit older than you are keeping secrets like this makes you a little... uh... not sad, but angry is too strong. Miffed? Maybe. Rico folds her arms like big sister does to back you up.

Unfortunately, it just makes Red grab you and pull you both into a strong hug. "Aww, so cute!"
She squeals as you try to break out of her arms, but she is so strong you do not have a chance. In the end, you both resign yourself to the hug. Rico is still pouting, though.

Now that you are so close to her, though... huh. "You smell weird, Red..."

Rico can see Soul's eyes narrow over your shoulder and the winged Magical Girl leans in a little until she can smell this weird scent, too. You do not think you ever smelled anything like it before, a bit sweet and... nope, still weird.

But Soul quickly snaps back and focusses on Red. There is a low rumble in her chest and she slowly lets go of you. "Uh... I kind of forgot to shower this morning. We were too busy making up."

Once you brought some distance between yourself and her, you notice all three girls blushing, Red a little, Purple some more and Soul a lot.

Teenagers are weird... why would they blush over getting along again? Or maybe because Red is smelling?

"So, how do you like New York?"
It is just the two of you in the kitchen today; Rico is helping with cleaning up the common room while you are here and prepare breakfast. Your newest friend is nice, though.

Grace always cooks meals and helps the other girls; you liked her ever since meeting her for the first time two weeks ago. She even told you her actual name, though that was mostly because her Magical Girl name sounds weird. Paramount Merchant...

You have no idea what it means, to be honest. But she is a good person and takes care of you... and Rico, too, when she and Ludger come to sneak some extra food.

"It's so big... but so empty, too."
"Mhm, I know what you mean. Used to be a great town, though. I was born here."

She sounds a little sad about it, so you try to find something else to talk about. "It looks still really big... but there are no fields like in Verona. How did people get their food?"

It is mostly the boys working on the fields, so you rarely went there, but you know there were wide fields around your hometown. Grace shrugs and stirs another pan as you move around. "I was too young to get it, but I think food production was centralised elsewhere... and then they just sent it here."
"Ohh!"

That makes sense!
But then... "Where do you get your food from now?"

Your friend pauses for a moment to taste-check the scrambled eggs, then shrugs at you. "Kibo, that's all I know. They built our fancy dorm, too."

Her words make you think a little while cutting the bread. Rico is curious, too. "Kibo helps you a lot... I thought you wouldn't like them much and they wouldn't like you..."

"I guess so."
Grace frowns your way, her brows scrunched in thought. "But us Magical Girls have to hold together in times like these, you know? Bickering about who is right won't make anything better, so we just... get along. All of us keep our eyes open for new girls and stuff, so that we can save as many as possible."

That makes sense, too. You feel a little better now... at least the girls all get along with each other, that is a start.

"I like that."
"So do I... and we're done, let's get this started!"
"'Kay!"

You go ring the bell that tells everyone breakfast is ready; Rico explodes into the room to help carry stuff just a moment later. She has been waiting by the door for a while now... even though the ringing hurts a little, she waited right next to the speaker.

Just a day later, Igni and Dragon return. You can see them drive by in an old-looking car with its paint already falling off; it is nowhere near as pretty as Bianca's car, but it drives... and it is loud. A car.

Knight waves towards the two girls inside, one of them clad in a full body robe with a veil... why is Dragon wearing something like that? The car drives by and your teacher motions for you to come along; training does not wait.

You do see your friends walking up to the training field after a while, though. Dragon is transformed now... and she looks as friendly as usual, not counting the horns and tail. Knight pauses and your scepters bounce off her armour without any effect. "Good to see you two back."

"Good to be back! How's it been here?"
They have trouble speaking while you try to at least make a dent in Knight's armour, but nothing happens; the noise your weapons produce is loud and after a while, Knight pokes you with the hilt of her sword to make you stop hitting her chest. Right in the side, where you are ticklish. Squeaking backwards, both you and Rico pout up at the blonde.

And Dragon is laughing at you. "You're having fun?"
First you think she is asking you, but then you notice the faint smile on Knight's face. Huh, she is having fun training with you?

Knowing that makes you feel a little warmer; so doing all this does make a difference after all.

This evening, you decided to play with Dragon. You never really got a chance to talk to her before, so now that she is back, you can do that. The four of you -you, Rico, Dragon and Ludger- are on one of the couches, with your dog lying square over your and your sister's laps. The older Magical Girl is stroking his head.

Everyone here loves Ludger... except Soul, Red and Knight, but that is fine. Dragon coos a little and you can see how relaxed she is; her tail bobs back and forth and... okay, you had enough of that.

"Dragon?"
"Hm?"
"Um... can I... can I pet your tail?"

Her half-lidded smile grows a little dim and the scaly thing stops moving; your hopes fall already, but you still give her your best puppy dog eyes and wait. Dragon looks at you for a long while, her hands hovering over Ludger's ears. Then she sighs and the tail snakes next to you. "Fine, but... be careful. It's sensitive... and I normally don't let people touch it."

"Okay."

You carefully reach out and run a hand over the green scales; they feel smooth and warm under your fingers. It twitches a little, too. After a moment of thought, you rub your cheek against the tail to get a better feeling. Yes, this is warm.

Dragon and Rico giggle and you know your sister thinks it is funny, but you ignore them both.

Then the tail snakes around and... around your throat?
Wha-?!
"Oh shit, sorry!"

It barely squeezes before darting away so fast that you are pulled sideways. Gloved hands catch you before you can fall and you are pulled against Dragon's chest. "Oh no no no... sorry Moon, I didn't meant to..."

You blink a few times and try to understand what just happened. Rico doesn't get it, either... why is Dragon mumbling apologies and hugging you so tight and- is she crying?

You try to raise an arm to her shoulder, but you only get to push against her breast from where you are. "'s okay, I'm fine..."
Your words are muffled. Rico gets up and helps you by putting a hand on Dragon's shoulder, squeezing a little. Until she sighs and lets you go.

"...sorry. I shouldn't have done that. You're not hurt, are you?"

You shake your head and the older girl sighs again, this time with a lot more... relief? "Great... but you're not going to pet my tail again. It's too dangerous after all."

Dangerous? Why... wait, it was going around your throat and squeezing... oh. Your eyes widen a little over the realisation just what almost happened; the tail wanted to strangle you? "Why is it dangerous? You're nice, you wouldn't hurt me."

"Heh..."
Dragon laughs and wipes her eyes, then she gives you a resigned look. Her shoulders slump and the girl looks... a lot less happy. "That's what you think, I guess... but I'm a dragon, at least partly. Sometimes, I just get the urge to kill people for no reason. Just because I can... and... and I can't control the tail that well, it just... does."

She gets faster with each word until she stops entirely, slumping over further and hiding her face. "I can't control it at all... and once I lose control, I would hurt anyone as long as they're in my way..."

You do not need to even think about what to do. Rico calmly strokes Dragon's back and you hold her hands. "It's okay. It's not your fault."

"Pff, that's what everyone says."
She sounds so bitter that it hurts you to hear, but Dragon does not say any more. She just lets you comfort her.

In the end, it takes Iron and Mirror almost four weeks to show up. You are done with this terrible training... but you are happy with your success... and you can even use Soul's sword, too! She let you hold it for a bit and you were not horrible with it!

But this is not what this is about; when the Mementos do return, you already wait for them. And tacklehug them both.

"Whoa, hey there! I didn't think you'd be still around."
Mirror holds you up while Iron has Rico clinging to her waist; Knight lets you be and waits while Rico chatters to the older girls: "We've been waiting for you! What took you so long?"

And then a calm giggle from behind them makes both of you turn to look. "That would be me."

She stands right next to a corner over there, a stack of cards sitting in her hand as she looks you over. "So many new faces... it was great luck that we met on the way. Nice to meet you all, I am Magical Girl Hand of Fate."

She curtsies in her short skirt -that makes sense, summer came around by now-, and you try to do the same but fail badly. Mirror chuckles and ruffles Rico's hair again, much to her dislike. Knight gives the new girl a nod. "Nice to meet you, too."

Now that you saw them again, this will be your last day in New York. Your training with Soul and Knight is over... so what do you do with the rest of your day? Choose two:

[] Spend time with Iron and Mirror; you have been waiting for them a long time!

[] Hand of Fate looks interesting, maybe she wants to play?

[] Go to bed early, you are still sore from all the training

[] Go with Knight; she said something about talking to Kibo

[] Now that you are leaving... maybe you can use the training field one last time for trying to make some spells?
