You are now the other twin, Rico Vescovi. At least you think so.

Not that it really matters, as you continue hugging your sister close for warmth. All of this is so terrible, you just wanted to have some fun and play with Eva... and now everything is broken.

You almost died, your sister is hurt and you are Magical Girls on top of that. Each time you think you can stop and push the sadness down, another wave of feelings rolls over you and brings it all back; it is the same for Eva.

At some point, the soldier woman that was looking after you carefully wraps her arms around the two of you, another source of warmth while everything else is cold.

...

You have no idea how much time passed, but the sadness slowly subsides at last and you feel the arms around you let go. Eva stopped sobbing with you, her eyes puffy and red... your own are no different, but you do not care.

You carefully pull your hand back into your sleeve so you can wipe her face with it. After a moment, your sister does the same to you without another word.

You do not even need any words now, not that you did before.
But now you can feel the warmth from her even without having to see. You can tell that Eva will be there with you, no matter what.

The soldier next to you looks relieved, maybe because you stopped crying... you leave your sister's face alone and turn to the older woman. "Can we go home?"

Your voice is raspy and your throat hurts a little... not that it matters much. Eva still hurts more than you do; you can feel a little sting in your side, too, even if there is nothing there. Your twin's shirt is bloody at that point, too.

The woman looks at you for a moment after you asked, then slowly nods at you. "Sure... uh, wait, hold on a second."

She quickly walks over to an even older man, probably her superior, and talks to him while gesturing back to you; Eva slips her hand into yours in the meantime, squeezing quietly while your thoughts whirl all around.

On top of that, why are you squeezing and being squeezed at the same... ugh, that again. You have no good idea what it is, but something definitely happened. Eva feels some of your pain and you feel some of hers, you have... a weird sensation deeper down, feelings that are not yours.

Your sister hums in thought, which means she agrees with you.
Whatever happened, it is weird; you do not dislike it, though. Neither does Eva.

The soldier comes back after talking with her bossman and smiles at the two of you. "Okay, you're good to go. I can drive you, if you want?"

A look is exchanged between the two of you, but neither minds. You just want to go home now. This Friday is awful.

Most of Verona had been destroyed or made uninhabitable during World War III. Now that the war is over though, humankind had slowly started to rebuild what was lost.

You hardly remember how the city looked like before that time; you were only three when the war rolled over Europe and your hometown was gone. At least the new buildings built in the city center look a lot like the ruins you found during previous scavenging trips, nice and cozy and brown and orange.

Just not packed as tightly as they used to be; there are now pretty gardens around the houses, where people grow vegetables.

Your own house stands just about a hundred metres away from the Adige, so you know you are almost there the moment you reach the wide bridge crossing the river; this does not make the ride anymore comfortable, though. Military jeeps have almost no cushions and cold air is rushing all around you! Your butt hurts from all the bumps in the street, too!

You should have walked... but then again, Eva is hurt. Walking might have made it worse, so you decide that you can bear with that much.

"Should I come in with you to explain to your parents?"
You look at each other again, then shake your head and smile up at the woman in synch. ""It's fine, miss. Thank you!""

This is a trick you always loved, to talk at the same time; it is easier than usually, especially because Eva normally talks slower than you. Right now however, you pull it off perfectly and can see the adult's expression softening. She is young, at least twenty years younger than your mother...

"Okay then. Take care, girls."
""'Kay!""

She pats your heads as a goodbye and you continue to smile up at her, waving until the jeep is out of sight. Only then do you drop the smiles and take each other's hands again, but there are still weird feelings rolling over you.

"Maybe something linked us together", Eva instantly switches tracks. You already knew the second half of the sentence before she said it, though; it makes sense to you, too. Actually, thinking is a lot easier now, even when it is really confusing as well.

You shrug and start pulling your sister. "Doesn't matter right now, I think. Let's go talk to mommy."

There is no resistance to your pull and another pair of feet follows without complaint. Eva always goes along with what you want to do... but you recently started making sure she gets to do things she likes too. Like the big sister you are.

"I'm the older one, Rico."

Oh, right... she heard that, even if you did not say it.

The two of you carefully look at each other in your eternal struggle of who is the big sister; Eva always wants to be, but she is too shy to actually act the part. She looks more boyish too, with her shorter hair.

Rico always gets into fights, so she can not be the... hey, wait.

"Hey!"

Eva giggles at your indignation and fiddles with her keychain before opening the door. You do not get to continue your half-spoken conversation, though, because a small, black and white projectile comes shooting at you and bowls you over with a happy yelp.

"Ah, Ludger!"
He is upon you immediately, licking your face and wagging his little tail while Eva pets his head. Ludger, your dog. Your very best friend in the whole world.

You giggle as the wet tongue slobs over your cheek and catch the corgi in your arms, rubbing his back while he continues to sit on your belly. Your sister joins the laughter and pushes the door closed with her foot.

After a moment of enjoying the warmth of the little bundle on you, you gently push him away and get up. "Okay, stop."

He stops and looks at you, then jumps off your belly once you push yourself upwards. "Sit."
No reaction. Ugh, so he still did not learn what you want him to do. Eva giggles again and helps you up... but you can feel a slight sting in your side again and she wheezes for a moment.

While you wipe the half-dried dog saliva off of your face however, another voice cuts into the silence.

"Welcome home, girls! Did you find anything?"

That is your mother in the next room, probably looking through the schoolwork she will throw your way next week; she is a teacher at the local school, so you always have to do your homework or she will know.

You look at each other again and Eva shifts uncomfortably. Neither of you will like this conversation, especially because your mom will probably not allow you to go out by yourself anymore.

But instead of overthinking this, you get a gentle nudge to... no, you nudged your sister to get going and then walked over to the living room. "Mommy? Um..."

There she sits, looking your way from the black couch; the stone table in front of her is filled with papers and folders and some pens, but she immediately sets down the one she is holding and gets up. "Did something happen?"

Before you can answer, Eva comes up next to you and your mother's eyes widen at her sight. "Eva, what..."

You never saw her move that fast before; you can hardly follow how fast she swings around the table and runs to your side, kneeling in front of the two of you and looking your sister over. "What happened?!"

"Um... "

Eva looks down sadly and the older brunette picks up on it, slowly easing her grasp on your sister's shoulders. "Come on, sit over here and let me see. Tell me everything."

You do sit, Eva lifts her arms so your mother can take off her shirt and look at the injury...

...but you do not tell her everything. You told her about the monster appearing and running away, but not about having become Magical Girls. You left out the part where you share your feelings and thoughts now, too.

Neither of you is sure how she will react after losing your father to World War III... and she hates Magical Girls.

Right now however, after hugging you and telling you everything is fine, she is ushering the two of you to sit and... and.... and.....

And places a large bowl of ice cream in front of you!

Best mom ever!

Three hours, lots of chocolate and strawberry ice cream as well as many hugs and headpats later, you sit in your room together with Eva. Your sister already changed out of her bloody clothes, which your mother will try to wash in a bit... after dinner. It is getting late and you do not feel like doing homework.

There are still many thoughts floating around both of your heads. Ludger lies next to your sister and has his head in her lap while she reads one of your schoolbooks... ugh, math.

You get glimpses of it if you concentrate on that weird sensation, but not enough to understand. Whatever Eva is doing seems to work for her, though.

"I... I get it. It's... easy."

That one stops you for a moment; both of you are not really good at math, so how can she suddenly understand this? Maybe the magic?

You crawl over to her side and look over her shoulder, reading the same page she does; those things you caught before... now that you can see the passages, they start to make sense.

The two of you quietly read a few more pages, partly making sense of the alien concepts before you, until a calm voice calls through the house: "Rico, Eva! Go wash your hands, dinner is ready!"

Your sister slowly closes the book and puts it on the ground; you help her up again, this time being careful about her injured side while Ludger gets up and looks at the both of you with this wide puppy-eye stare he never really lost.

It's so cute!

This time however, you manage to barely resist the urge to dive back down and cuddle with your dog, the little cheater. At least he paid for all the petting and playing in advance by teaching you and Eva how to use this look, too.

You have pasta for dinner today; not your favourite, but it is good and Eva likes it a lot.
It feels weird to feel the taste intensify at times, though. Really, really weird. At least your sister seems to be fine with that, seeing that she gets more out of the food.

Your situation here in Verona is far better than elsewhere, though; you both know that by heart. Italy was one of the first countries that reestablished a steady supply of electricity and water for the people after the UES was formed, right after Germany and France. Others still have to spend their night to the light of candles or get water from nearby lakes and rivers.

It makes sense to you; Europe got off much better than the rest of the world... if you just knew more. All that you do know is what you got from News broadcasts and your history book, same for Eva. Your mother does teach history and art, though... you could ask her about this.

"Say, children", a voice cuts into your thoughts, your parent gently pushing a strand of greyish brown hair behind her ear, "would you like to see Bianca?"

Both Eva and you turn your heads fully now; the last time you saw your big sister was the previous December. She works for the government and is really busy, so she has little time to come back. But she made it a habit to drop by for the whole month and celebrate your birthdays as well as Christmas and the New Year with you.

In your opinion, having her around for one month in the whole year is not enough at all.

Right now, you beam at your mother. "Big sis is coming?!"
She gives you a smirk that you usually see on Rico's... that others usually see on your own face. "She doesn't know it yet."

Oh. Heh.

You have the same smile now and Eva looks between the two of you. She understands, though.
In moments like these, your similarity to your mother becomes even more obvious; you all look a lot alike, to the point where people only need to look at her to know you are her children.

Your big sister is very similar, too. From what the adults told you before, girls in your family looked a lot like their mothers for generations.

"I will call her later, now eat up."

""Okay!""

[X] Stay in your room and figure out how this mind-thing works
[X] Play with Ludger

The afternoon was really bad... but you got ice cream and pasta, so it is okay now. Especially with how your weird connection with Rico doubled the taste of dinner, things have become nice again.

Ludger is right by your side the moment you push your chair back and bring your plate into the kitchen; he yelps happily and runs circles around you, begging to play and have fun with him. He normally does that to Rico, but you do not mind him, either.

Your sister is right behind you and darts ahead once she is done putting her plate down; you ponder starting to wash the dishes, but your mother shoos you away. "Not today, Eva. You go and play today."

The stern look she gives you already says that there is no arguing the point; you like washing things, though... you like things being clean, too. "Okay..."

Your mother loses the frown in an instant and ruffles your hair. "Good girl."

After she let go, you turn around and wander through the hallway, following the sound of laughter and happy corgi. You can feel a wet tongue sliding over your cheek, even though there is nothing.

Ludger is a great dog... he has been with you for around three years, ever since your big sister brought him for your birthday; you took good care of him ever since, even when your mother did not believe you could do it at first.

It took maybe a week for her to fall in love with the new pet as much as you two already had.

He is a great friend and really protective; there was that one day last year when some older boy scared Rico with his mastiff... the memory has your stomach grumble and you shudder; there is a note of remembrance from elsewhere.

Neither of you ever saw that much blood before. And none of the older children ever tried picking on you again, at least when you were walking your dog. When you told your big sister about it later, she made some weird comment about Ludger being a German corgi, as if that had any influence. You still think it was a joke, but have no idea what it means.

Somehow, you doubt being able to understand this anytime soon; however, you do not mind. Ludger is Ludger.

Speaking of which, you find him proudly sitting atop your giggling sister; his eyes are on you at once, the dog happily yelping again while you scratch him behind his ears. "Good Ludger, you caught the evil Rico. Now we force her to do her homework."

"Hey!"

You join Rico's giggling and carefully slide to the ground next to her; your injuries still sting a little, but you barely notice it when you do not have to move too fast. Another pair of hands joins yours in ruffling through your pet's fur, the soft hair leaving happiness with both of you. This is nice.

You are still Magical Girls... but things are not as bad as they may be.

Character sheets go from Level 0 to Level 4, with the former being the barebones sheet you get upon meeting someone new and the latter being the complete sheet. Spending time with someone unlocks higher levels of their character sheet; notice how Ludger's original sheet was Level 3, which means he still has abilities you are not aware of.
This one counts as only half an Interaction due to being tied with another option, which is why you do not get his Level 4 sheet this time.

After a few more minutes of petting and cuddling with your dog however, you can hear the sound of water stopping. Then your mother's head pops into the room, her eyes quickly finding the three of you on the floor. She pauses for a moment, a knowing smile playing around her lips. She found you like that rather often.

"Having fun?"
""Yes!"" "Woof!"
"Too bad Ludger has to go for a walk now."
""Aww...""

Even the dog looks a little sad, but he quickly trots over to where your mother stands; she carefully adjusts his collar and clicks the leash onto it, then waves at you and moves off. "You should wash up and change."

Oh, right... you do kind of have a lot of dog hairs on your clothes.

Rico carefully helps you up, making sure to put as little pressure as possible on your injured side; while the front door opens and closes, you two make your way over to the bathroom for a quick wash. It does not take long before you are back in your room and slipping out of your clothes, the cute blue and pink pyjamas your mother bought already waiting to be put on.

"Hey, with Mommy gone... what do you think that weird thing with our feelings is?"
There is a tingle of curiousity that is not your own coming with the question, which is a little bit weird; but you do not mind. "I'm not sure, Rico. I think I like it."

After all, this connection you seem to have now lets you be with your sister even if she is not with you. And you get to have twice the taste of your favourite food. And...

And you get to feel when the other is hurt.
Wait, that one was not your... oh. Again.
"I guess so..."

Two Minds Joined in Harmony is a powerful ability if used right. However, it will be detrimental in its current state. Due to what it does, both of your protagonists have to be careful with what they do.

Rico does not respond, at least not verbally. She buttons up her top while you continue thinking about it. You remember feeling the pain in your... uh... Rico's ankle right before healing it back there. It hurt really bad for just a moment.

You tug at your collar for a bit, then carefully pick up your discarded clothes; they are still full of hairs. Your sister is right behind you as you wander over to the patio and shake them out with quick snaps, just like mother taught you.

"But we can do math now, too."
Rico hums in agreement, although the mental cheer betrays how she actually feels. Noticing that you noticed, your sister ducks her head and blushes a bit.

However, it is also a unique capability to link their brains together; Eva and Rico are instinctively capable of using each other's mental capacities without inconveniencing the other. By the way, it is not so much them being able to do math all of a sudden, it is that they have a far easier time processing what they read and thus understanding the theory.
As it is, the bonus of their enhanced reflexes and processing power is minimal, but can be increased as they grow more proficient in handling it.

With your clothes somewhat clean, the two of you return inside and put them away for tomorrow.

Your room is actually really small; you have a medium-sized dresser each, a desk that fits two chairs, and bunk-beds. The furniture takes in more than half of the room... and you will probably be too big to lie on the floor together in another two or three years.

"Hey, let's try doing things on purpose."
"Huh?"

Rico looks at you with a bright smile and settles down on your bed, patting the space next to her. You do not really get what she wants to do, but it will be fine. Careful not to step on Ludger's excess fur, you make your way over to sit next to her; there is a moment of silence and a mixture of curiousity from both sides before she pokes your cheek.

Eh?

"Hm..."
Rico pokes you again and it still makes no sense. What is that supposed to do?
"I'm... trying to feel things from your end. It doesn't work!"

Hu... oh. Ohh.
Now you get it. Rico wants to try seeing if you can sense each other or from each other however you want instead of it being random.

"Oh, I see."

But how to go about it?

You think for a moment, then smile cheerfully and poke Rico's side; your sister eeps and tries to swat away your hand, but you just poke her other side. She is ticklish there and soon you have her giggling and laughing openly under your assault.

"Wahaha... ugh, Eva! Ahaha, stop!"

Somehow, you can feel fingers tickling your sides and have the urge to giggle as well. It gets stronger the more you do to Rico... but you stop the moment she starts feeling uncomfortable instead of just trying to fight back.

By now you are lying on your bed, with Rico below you breathing heavily and looking up. "Uhhh... why? What did I ever do to you?! I can't even tickle you back, it's not fair!"

You giggle at her overly dramatic shouts and go back to sitting on the edge. After a moment of hesitation, Rico comes up as well; you are the first to speak, though: "I... uh... I wanted to see if it gets easier when you feel something... um... stronger? I could feel you being tickled better when I tickled you more..."

She blinks for a moment, then her eyes light up. "Eva, you're a genius!"

Ehehe, not really...

Then, all of a sudden, a wave of admiration rolls over you, bringing out a gasp of surprise; Rico smiles and shows you a victory-sign. "Ha, I can do it, too!"

So... you kind of figured out that things are easier to feel together when the feeling is strong. That... does not really help you in keeping it down, though.

. . .

. . .

You continue poking each other with feelings and fingers for a bit, until your mother comes home. It is not that late already, but you can feel how tired Rico is... and so are you.

You found out how to send things deliberately... or at least more clear, but suppressing things still does not really work. You tried by poking your side a few times and clamping down on the feeling... but Rico still yelped in pain with you every time.

Do not believe that doing an option once and not receiving anything means it was worthless. Many a thing requires dedication and constant exercise to be achieved.

In the end, neither of you figured out much. It is a start, but Rico does not seem too happy. Now that your mother is back, you can not continue anyway, at least not with anything that does too much noise.

You yawn loudly, your twin mimicking you a moment later. Glances fly from one to each other and you can feel that Rico is comfortable where she is, even though this is your bed. You do not mind.

The door creaks open and a pair of eyes peeks inside, looking what you are doing. Eva... no, you; you smile at your mother and usher your sister to lie down before getting up and going for the light switch. "We're tired, mommy. Good night."

"I see. Good night, Eva; good night, Rico."
"G'night", a drowsy Rico murmurs while pushing your blanket around; you hug your parent and kiss her cheek, then she closes the door and you turn off the lights before crawling into bed as well.

It is just a bunk-bed. It is small and tight, but you make do. It is also warm with the two of you sharing a blanket.

Rico is already out like a light; she never takes long to fall asleep... although that remains true during classes, too.

It feels a little weird, so peaceful. You enjoy your sister's warmth a bit longer, cuddling against her side while sleep...

Light flashes and you see... a city burns. The buildings are destroyed and dead litter the streets... but one moves, a young girl. She stares around and starts to scream while sick, green light engulfs her.

The city is gone... now a radiant wave of white rushes forward and breaks through pink light shining brightly. The pink is gone in an instant...

"Eep!"

"Hehe, you scared, girly?"

"Woof! Grrr...."

Flashes, fear... and a sickening crunch followed by a yowl.

"Holy shit, what's... ahh, stay away from me!"

Everything turns on its head... and you sit at a fancy table, having tea with... the spider-monster.

Your eyes snap open and you take a deep breath. That was... weird. You turn your head towards the slightly opened curtains, noting that you forgot to close them properly yesterday. It is still early, seeing that the sky has a really dark blue and you can see no sunlight.

The alarm on your nightstand says it is a little after eight, so... you have about three to four hours to spend before your mother gets up.

And your arm is still asleep.

Looking back, Rico seems to have shifted it under her head during the night... or did you do that? You are not sure. Either way, you gently pull it out from under your sister and move it around, feeling the needly sensation all through your skin. This feels so weird...

After your arm is finally back and the feeling passed, you carefully slide out of bed; Rico is not that heavy a sleeper, but you do not mind her staying there a bit longer. She is always groggy in the morning, much in difference to you.

Quick steps bring you to your wardrobe and you get changed as quietly as possible, sneaking glances at your sibling as you do. Your side still stings a bit, but it feels better than yesterday.
Once you put on your clothes for the day, you head to the door and gently close it behind you; the first stop is the bathroom, but you only wash your face to get this weird stuff out of your eyes. Then you are off to the kitchen.

Ludger is lying in his basket in the living room, looking up upon hearing you walk by. He gets up and trots over, following you around as you gather the watering can and fill it up halfway with lukewarm water. Then you turn around and towards the patio, where your flowers are.

Mornings are nice. The air is fresh and cold and birds are chirping and you can hum to yourself while giving your plants water to drink. There are some weeds growing in-between again, so maybe you should go through the garden and pull them out one of these days...

Over all of this, you can still feel this note of tranquility from Rico. Your shuffling around apparently did not wake her up.

With the water expended and the garden no longer thirsty, you smile at your flowers and turn back inside, a slight spring in your step; Ludger continues to follow you, patiently waiting like you taught him.

After putting away the watering can, you slip over to the cupboard where the dogfood is stored; the regular packages are far too big for you to heave up, but your mother always puts a bit into a smaller bag sitting next to the large one. You get that and put it on the counter, then check Ludger's bowl; it is clean, so you quickly fill it and place it down, the Corgi happily getting to his breakfast.

While he is busy, you wash out his water bowl and refill it, too.

And then the feeling of peacefulness suddenly shatters away, making you flinch and shudder with its absence. There is a spike of confusion you know is not from you, so... Rico woke up.

While turning to wipe your fingers dry, you notice a lone knife lying on the counter. What is that doing there? Your mother usually keeps them all accounted for and out of your reach... over there. Huh, you can not put it back like this.

Contemplating the situation for a moment, you get yourself a stool and gently slide the knife back into its holder, alongside its three friends who probably missed it.

Reluctant steps can be heard outside, leading past the door and towards the bathroom. You giggle at the sense of water on your face and this tinge of unhappiness, then step down and push the stool back where it belongs.

Rico comes in while you are pouring two glasses of juice, growling angrily as she usually does. "Who thought mornings are a good idea?"

You ignore her grumbling and hold a glass out, which she takes with a quiet "Thank you". A long sip later, your sister's eyes are on you.

"Good morning, Eva."
Now you smile back at her and take a sip yourself. The cool juice feels nice. "Good morning, Rico."

You carefully comb through Eva's hair; your sister forgot it again.
She lets you and hums happily, much to your dismay; just how can anyone be so happy in the morning?

There is a cheerful yip by your feet and Ludger jumps up at you, standing on his hindlegs and resting the front paws against your leg. He looks up at you and Eva, then goes back down on all fours and runs a few circles around you again.

And there comes a wave of fondness rolling over from your twin, who lets you finish before crouching and petting the dog again. "I think he has to go for little corgis. Do you want to come with me?"

Instead of responding, you just hum and try to... to poke your sister with your mind, but it does not really work. Oh well...

Eva goes ahead and you follow a moment later, the dog walking after her and watching what she is doing; he only gets more excited the moment he hears his collar rustle. Ludger loves going outside.

Okay, he also loves digging up the garden, which is why he is not allowed to go outside without someone watching him.

As you click the leash onto... wait, Eva again. This is really weird and you start to wonder what happens if the two of you are in entirely different places. Or if you stub your toe again...

You cast open the door and hold it for your sister; she holds the leash with her left hand today, so her injuries are probably not yet gone. Maybe you should take it instead of risking something... but your sister can handle it; she will tell you if she can not.

It is sunny outside, the morning air a little cold for your liking... you give your sister a sign and dart back inside to get your jackets. At least the cold air will help you wake up properly.

There is not much happening as you wander the neighbourhood. A few adults are already awake and wave at you from their own gardens as you pass by, but this is basically it; Ludger does his business as you go and you circle around onto another street after reaching the Adige.

On the way back however, you see her; she sits on a bench next to the walkway, a steaming paper cup in her hands and looking the other way... where you live.

The woman wears blue jeans and a dark sweater, but you recognise her black hair and how she looks like the moment she turns to you. That is the soldier person that brought you home yesterday.

Were you found out?

A spike of nervousness from Eva tickles through your head and makes you shiver, but you quickly get yourself under control and dart forward. "Hello, miss!"

She smiles and gets to her feet, looking you over for a moment before responding: "Hey there. Are you girls doing okay?"

You nod... maybe a little too forcefully while Eva comes up next to you and does the same. At the same time, Ludger comes up by the soldier's foot and starts to sniff it, bringing her attention down to him. "Oh, you were walking your dog?"

"Yup. I think he likes you, miss."
She chuckles and bows down to gently pat Ludger's head, who happily lets her. You watch this for a moment and exchange a glance with your twin, who passes you the leash. "Do you live over here, too?"

"Hm? Oh... uh... no, not really."
She looks up from your pet, although her hand stays on his head. There is... something in her eyes, you are not sure. She pauses for a second, then sighs and straightens again. "I was just... a little worried about you two. Did everything go well with your parents?"

You nod enthusiastically and beam up at her. "Yeah, everything was good. Mommy gave us hugs and ice cream and now everything's good!"

Eva giggles and nods, too; the soldier-woman has to laugh as well... for some reason. You did not say something funny, did you?

She chuckles some more and ruffles your hair; no, you just combed it!
Squealing and holding up your hands, you duck behind Eva, who giggles more and laughs at you while Ludger looks back and forth between you. The miss looks after you, her hand still in the air. Then she smiles again and lowers it. "Oh, sorry."

"It's okay, miss", your sister tells her. Of course it is a lie, how could anything be okay with your hair all wobbly and weird again? Now you have to brush it more...

"But we have to go, I want to do breakfast and Rico has homework."

Your world screeches to a halt and loses colour. A quick look to Eva tells you that you did not hear it wrong... she really said that. Your horror grows ever more when the woman smiles and tells you she understands; you look at her for help, but she ignores it... damn mean traitor-bully! And you thought she was nice!

"Come on, Rico."
An arm gets a hold of yours and you feel yourself drawn away, Ludger happily yipping somewhere.

With the dog off his leash again, he cheerfully follows you and Eva around; your twin is leading the way towards the bedroom, where horror waits.

And you know you can not get around it; you can feel your sister's determinedness over that weird connection. Eva only does that at home, though... she is never like this when with her friends.
Maybe she is the big sister after all.

"Of course I am."

Grr...

The walk into your room is quick, far too quick for you to like. Eva opens the door and tells Ludger to sit, then takes you inside and shuts the dog out. Why does he even sit when she tells him, but not when you do? How unfair...

"There you go, Rico."

She smiles at you... but you can feel how much fun she has with this. Pouting at your sister, you slump down in your chair -the left one- and get your pencil case. Eva sits down next to you with her own homework that she already made and she does not let you look...

You groan and get your books from the bag your usually keep under the desk. You have a few questions for geography, a lot of math, some English and Italian. Ugh, where to start... math is last, you do not even want to think about it.

Grumbling, you just start with geography; it is just a sheet with a few questions for you to answer and knowing the teacher, all the answers are in your book.

Which countries are part of the UES? Oh, that one is easy; you quickly scribble down the first three that come to mind: Italy, France and Germany.

After a moment of thinking, you can also put Great Britain and Poland to the list.

Then you have to look into your book for the rest; Spain, Norway, Iceland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Eva checks her own answer after looking over to you, then shows you she has the same thing written.

Ugh, this will take a while...

. . .

. . .

It was mostly just that weird stuff about what the capital's name was and the like... you do not really get why you need to know anything besides Rome and maybe Berlin, where the government is. You even know they put it there because it is in the middle of Europe.

At least Italian is nice; you have to write a full page about whatever you like... so you write about your big sister and how she is the best big sis ever.

English is just a lot of words to learn again; Eva tests you a little and it goes... okay. You test her, too... and she is good.

Then it is already time for... that. Math... ugh, you really do not want to, but your sister rubs her arm against yours and pushes the textbook over.

But there is also a lot of unwant coming from her; aha!
"You don't want to, too!"

Eva makes a face and looks back down at her notebook, then gets her pencil and looks back at you. "But we have to."

You groan and take up your own pencil, then sharpen it a little bit.

When you get started, though... it is easy. You look up how things are done and then it just... works. You can feel a few things coming over from Eva, but she works through everything really fast, just like you... this is great!

You knew you could do math, but this is... hehe, Elisa will be really surprised.

"This is great, Rico! I love the connection!"
You beam right back at your sister and put down the pencil. "Yup, it's great! And we're done, can we play now?"

Only then do you hear something grumble from below and feel how empty your stomach is. Eva giggles and pushes her notebooks back into her bag. "We can play... but I want breakfast first. Come on, lets make it!"

Your twin skips ahead while you put away the books; it is nice to see Eva this open, she never is with others around... but it would be better if she did not make you make your homework.

You make a quick stop in the bathroom to comb your hair again and watch yourself in the mirror. The cheerfulness from your sister is coming to you, too... you try to concentrate on it and get a glimpse of the table you always eat at.

It only makes your tummy hurt a bit because you are hungry!

But before you actually get to the kitchen, the phone starts ringing and you quickly dart over to take it before it wakes up your mother. But who would call in the morning like this?
"H-Hello, this is Vescovi?"

You forgot to look who it is, so you have no idea... until you can hear a quiet chuckle from the other end. "You're still afraid of the phone, Rico?"
"Big Sis!"

That has Eva poke her head out of the kitchen... and Ludger does the same below her. You ignore them and wander over there while your big sister talks: "I went to bed earlier and didn't catch mother's call. Is she still asleep?"

"Yup! We're making breakfast for her right now!"
"I see."

Eva goes back to filling three bowls with cereal and milk while you sit down at the table, Ludger taking his place at your feet.

You love your big sister; she is always really nice, even when you barely see her. "Mommy wants you to come here next week... you can, can you? Please?"

You pout at the air and wait for her to respond; your twin is busy filling glasses with juice and pulling plates out of the cupboard. Your side stings a little... maybe you should go and help her anyway?

"I... hold on a second, I have to check my schedule."
"'Kay!"

You try holding the phone with your shoulder like you saw your mother do it, but it slips away and you almost do not catch it in time. That would have been bad...

Then you just shrug and poke Eva's side, handing the phone to her while you take over getting things ready for breakfast. She takes it and takes the place you just left, watching you as you push the stool around.

"Ah, big sister! Good morning!"
There she goes. You concentrate on getting the last few plates, then give the frying pan a look; maybe you could make some eggs? But your mother told you not to use the stove alone... eh, better not do it then.

"Huh... oh, really?! That's great! How long can you stay?"
You hum while bringing out spoons; she just said yes, you know it. Your big sister is coming over! A wave of warmth from Eva tells you that she feels the same way.

You add some toast and get the butter from the fridge, then poke around for other things to put on it; your sister quietly says her goodbye to Bianca and presses the red button, then puts the phone down and beams at you. "She says she can come on Tuesday and stay until Thursday evening."

That is a whole three days for you to play together!

"Sounds like you're having fun, girls."
The voice makes you jump a little as your mother enters, a good-natured smile on her face and the bedhair still visible. She looks around the kitchen and then smiles down at you and Eva. "Oh? You're making breakfast for me?"

Your tummy growls again and you quickly look away while she laughs quietly. "Or maybe you made it for yourself."

She looks at you for a moment longer before ruffling your hair -again!- and then Eva's; after that, she walks off to the bathroom and you can hear running water.

You groan and slump onto the chair next to your twin, who giggles and combs your longer hair back into order as best as she can with her fingers.

Breakfast is nice; the three of you sit together and eat, telling your parent about Bianca's call and what she said. She seems happy that her oldest daughter can come over for a bit.

After a while of chatting and you getting praise for actually doing your homework -yay?-, she calms down a little and smiles at the two of you.

[X] [Rico] Examine your connection with Eva some more

[X] [Rico] Go to the market with your mother

[X] [Eva] Go into the basement to examine your magic; maybe you can find something interesting

[X] [Eva] Tend to the garden; those weeds were not invited to live with you, they are still rude

You look at each other for a moment, then Rico's hand shoots up. "Yes, I want!"
However, she is alone with her call; you do not feel like going out right now... there are still some things you want to take care of. And your side is still aching.

"I want to stay here, Mommy."

She smiles at the both of you and nods, then takes another sip from her juice and gets up. "Okay then, you watch the house with Ludger and Rico comes with me. We can get going around noon, so you can take your time."

Your mother puts her bowl and plate into the sink, then starts washing them while you still sit and finish breakfast. She seems happy and you like that.

Ludger is looking up at the table with wide eyes, but you and Rico do good in ignoring him. He always wants your food, but it is yours.

You wait a minute until Rico is done with her cereal, then get up with her and bring your things over to the sink. Before you can join your mother however, she turns to you and looks serious. "Ah, right; we need to change your bandages, Eva."

Oh.

You nod and let go of the dish towel, then take a step back to wait while Rico thinks for a moment and then dives for the first-aid kit; she hits her head at the counter.
And you can feel a wave of pain roll through yours.

"Ow..."
Your murmur is drowned out by Rico's squeak and she holds her head while you rub yours. Your mother qlances over and sighs, then dries her hands and gently rubs your sister's head. "There there, Rico. You have to be careful or you get hurt like that."

At least she did not see you... or so you hope.

"And what is with you, Eva? Come over here."
Um... okay... she did see you.

You crouch next to your sister and have another hand on your head in a moment; it lightly rubs over the ache and you feel a little better very soon. Rico looks sheepish and you can feel a poke of... sadness? No, not sadness... apologious? Yes, probably that.

. . .

"Take care, Eva. We will be back... hm... maybe around four?"
"Okay. Have fun!"

You hug them both goodbye and wave until they are down the street, then close the door and look down at Ludger, who sits still by your side.

You want to work in the garden. But right now is maybe no good...

But... you are home alone. Now is a good time to look at your magic, maybe the best you can have. The basement is dark and scary and wet and bad and dark and you always hit your something there, but it is big and has no windows.

It also stinks because it has no windows, but you can be sure no one will see you. And there is some way for a little bit of air to get inside, you just never found out where it comes from.

There is a sense of air blowing over your face... but that is probably from Rico.

Shaking your head, you try to...push?... the feelings away and concentrate. Big sister always says to not get dis... uh... that word where you do not pay attention because you look at something else. Rico does that a lot.

You carefully wander down the creaking stairs; it smells bad already and you do not know where the light switch is... was it here?
Or there?

Your hand lands in something wet and you squeak while pulling it back. It felt so weird...

Ludger yips from behind and you see him sitting on the lowest step, watching you from where there is still light. Ugh, you do not want to... but it is important...

Taking all your courage together, you reach out again and feel over the walls... there is something... a click and a lightbulb gets on.

Hooray! You did it!

But there is no one to pet your head and praise you... aww...

Ah, focus. Magic.

You slowly enter the room fully and, after a moment of consideration, let Ludger in as well before closing the door. The light is not that strong, but you can see the shelves on the walls and that there is some free room in the middle.

There is the old sleeping bag you and Rico used to share in the shelter, before the war ended. You barely remember it because you were so young at the time... but it was really warm and nice, just like sleeping together yesterday.

You look over the few other things your mother put down here, but most is just stuff you no longer use. Some old shoes, your textbooks and notes from last year -in a pretty cardboard box-, a tent and... huh, what is your shirt doing down here?

You want to take it up, but mother would know you were down here if you did. She always knows, somehow... better not risk it.

Instead, you finish your poking and go into the middle of the room, Ludger still right by your feet. Hm...

"No, Ludger, I need room. Go over there."
He follows your finger and looks into the corner, but stays where he is. You try to make him move with the force of your will... but you only poke Rico with something and get a faint scaredness back... oh... um...

You try to poke her again with reassuring and hope it reaches her, then go back to your problem. Ludger is looking at you again.

"Come Ludger."
If he does not want to go, then you just bring him there. The dog quickly walks after you and into the corner you want him in, then you pet his head. "Now sit."
He sits and you pet him again.

Then you get up and take a step back. "Stay."

You take some more steps and Ludger does stay where he is. Good, you have been training him a lot to do this... it works!

But again, there is no one to praise you... but you can praise Ludger later, so it is okay.

Now, what did you say back there again? The words come to your mind as easily as if you knew them since your birth...

"I am the custodian of all! I am Magical Girl Primordial Moon!
Light flows out from you and you can feel it form into that cute suit, then your scepter appears in your hands, half a metre long and pretty.

Ludger stays where he is even after your light is gone... okay, not all is gone. There is some left coming from your wings...... wait, wings?

You try looking behind yourself, but there is only a little bit of light visible... but you know they are there. You know it... somehow. And then you push your arm behind your back to feel for them... yes, they are there. You can feel your hand on something over your back, both from your hand and from whatever it is.

You have wings.

Maybe you can move them?
Trying to poke around does not really work, though. But maybe you can fly anyway?

So you try flying... and take off the ground! There is nothing under your feet and you are flying and everything looks so different and you are flying and this is great and... ow.

You hit your head on the ceiling. Ow...
This hurts. You try not to go higher and stop pushing against the cold stone at once; then you go a little lower and look around, watching the tops of the shelves and the dust on them. You are so far up!

Next you try to fly around, but you are really slow... like when you go shopping with your mother and she wants you to stay next to her. But you can fly around and lie in the air and... okay, turning upside-down was a bad idea. You quickly turn back upwards and shake your head. Ludger is still watching you happily and you fly down to pet him. "There, good boy."

He yips at you, then wiggles away and runs off... only to come back with your scepter in his mouth. Huh, did you drop it?

Seems like you did, it is not there anymore. You pet the dog again and take your weapon, then look at it.

What can you do with that? You have a spell, but you probably can hit things with it, too. Hm... but you can not just hit things in here.
Still, you do some swings and listen to the buzzing air for a moment.

Battle is done in turns; each character has a set amount of actions per turn based on their Attacks Per Turn to move around the battlefield or do other things. Attacking takes up one action per attack.

(Primordial Moon: +10 Base Damage, -10 Not really trying, +5 dice = 5 Total Damage)

Base Damage is the regular damage of whatever you are doing.
The malus for "Not really trying" is a situational modifier due to the nature of what Eva is doing; all kinds of situations in a fight can lead to those, some positive and some negative.
"dice" is the bonus added from your Magic Modifier in form of a rolled die, the number of its sides equal to the Magic Modifier; this is basically your magic putting more weight into the attack. The same goes for defense.

(Air: +0 Base Resilience, +5 Nothing to Hit = 5 Total Damage Reduction

0 Final End Damage)

It... feels just like waving a stick around. Just that your scepter is a bit heavier than sticks.
After a minute or two, you are too bored and decide to do something else; maybe your weapon can do something cool?

Unfortunately, staring at it intently does not make it tell you. You stop before you accidentally poke Rico again and wonder what it might do. But you have no real idea, so you leave that be and decide to do some magic now.

You have a healing spell, so... you are probably supposed to help and heal others. Maybe you can be strong and protect Rico? That would be nice...

Why are you feeling like laughing... oh, ahh! She heard what you just thought!
How embarassing...

You drop your weapon and hide your face in Ludger's side, the dog licking your arm and yipping a few times. At least he is soft and cute and warm... you cuddle a little longer and then let go again, then pet his head.

Then you realise that you left your scepter on the ground again.

As you get up to get it though, it just disappears and is suddenly in your hand again.
Oh, that is nice! Now you will never lose it!

Weapons as well as spells have Abilities of their own, mostly centered around their effect. Due to your Moonlight Scepter's "Return", you can recall the weapon to your hand from everywhere.
Additional Abilities can be unlocked either in the Shop, if there are any, or by increasing a weapon's level.

You like this.
Anyway, back to magic. How was the spell's name... ah, yes.
"Soothing Moonlight!"

Pretty light quickly wraps around the shelf you aimed it at... and does nothing. Huh, it is a healing spell, but the shelf is not hurt. You think, at least.

Can you cast it on yourself? It seems to go to where you point your weapon, so maybe if you switch around and point it at yourself... "Soothing Moonlight!"

(Soothing Moonlight: +36 Base Heal, +2 dice = 38 Total Damage Healed

Primordial Moon Health: 92 + 38 = 100 Health)

Your whole body is filled with warmth and the stinging in your side stops completely. You carefully touch it, but the wound you had there is completely gone; that is nice, too. You can make people unhurt and heal them.

Spells are separate from regular attacks.
Regularly, everyone can only cast one spell per turn. There are Abilities that change this, but you do not have any at the moment.

Hm... you feel really good now... but maybe you can make it feel better?
With that thought, you turn your weapon towards your chest and cast Soothing Moonlight again... but nothing happens, the warmth just flows through you for a moment and then goes away.

"Aww..."

So you can not do more with that... but at least it helps a lot already. Huh, is there anything else you can do right now? Rico is not there and you do not think you have anything else to do... so that means you can fly around some more until they come back, right?

You think that is what it means.

. . .

. . .

You are now Rico Vescovi, on your way back home and... confused, yes. Confused. And a bit angry... and jel...ly? jellus? Whatever.

While you went around with your mother to buy groceries and talk to the people there, Eva had lots of fun back at home. You could feel it... and you dropped an apple you were holding when she poked you before, that was not fun...

Anyway, the point is that your sister had fun without you... you can tell from how much fun she felt she had. And you got some feelings of flying and felt all warm two times, too.

It is not fair... but you already decided to forgive Eva. It is okay if it is your sister.

Now that you are almost home, you try to poke her and try to tell her to stop playing in your head, but... it does not work. You really need to make that work.

There is some confusedness coming back and you poke her again, almost tripping because you have to concentrate. You stumble, but the hand holding yours keeps you upright; your mother smiles down at you and stops for a moment, then you both go on together again.

Hm... okay, Eva could play, but you had your mother for yourself for a bit. Her hand is really strong and warm.

You smile up at her as you walk and it does not take much longer until you are back home. Your mother unlocks the door, unleashing a happy corgi upon the both of you while you enter.
Eva comes in from the living room with a wide smile. "You're back!"

Then she shoots over to you and takes the bag you were holding before bringing it into the kitchen. You take off your shoes and put them back onto the rack, then pet Ludger for a bit and follow your sister.

Your mother is already in the kitchen by that time, looking through the things she bought and putting them into the fridge. Eva is bouncing around and looks at everything you brought.

"Did you have fun while we weren't here, dear?"
"Yup! I had lots of fun! But now I want to do stuff... mommy, where is my shovel? And the gloves?"

Eva slows down and looks back up at your mother, who looks back and into her eyes for a moment. "You want to work the garden with your injuries?"

Oh.
"Um... yes? It is not that bad... and I just want to pull out some weeds I didn't invite to live with my flowers!"

She is quiet for a moment... and then she laughs and hides her mouth behind her hand. "Oh my, Eva. Okay, your things are in the basement; I go and get them when I'm done here... but you only pull weeds."

Then she turns to you. "Do you mind watching your sister, to make sure she doesn't overwork herself?"

It is not so much overworking... Eva just has lots of fun when doing these things for some reason you do not get, so she does not stop.

"Okay!"
You do not mind... with what you wanted to do, staying near your sister sounds like a good idea anyway. So you help putting things into the fridge to make things go faster.

When your mother goes down into the basement to get Eva's things, your twin grabs your hand and beams at you. "I can fly, Rico!" "Really?!"

Eva nods happily and you jump a little with her.
So that was... oh, how mean! You want to fly, too!
...hm... maybe you can? You have to test that.

But later. Now it is time for other stuff... even if you would rather just fly around for a bit. That must be great!

Once your mother is back, Eva puts on her dirty gloves and takes her small shovel, then runs out to slip into her gumboots.
And then she is out of the door, so you quickly follow her.

The patio is big enough for a few chairs and a small table next to the door, so you get yourself one and sit down, watching as Eva starts to crouch next to her bed of flowers; it is right next to the vegetables your mother grows.

While your sister starts pulling on the weird weeds that always pop up, you get going as well and... well, what do you do?

This is still so weird to think about, you can feel what your sister feels and she feels what you feel and you are both hurt when one is and... hm... you also sometimes feel as if you did something when it was actually Eva.

Hm...
Instead of pushing something to her, you try pulling instead. There is flickering confusion and Eva looks over to you, but you just smile back and act as if nothing happened; so she felt that...

A cheerful yip behind you and the tapping of paws on the ground tell you that Ludger is out of the house. You turn and find him with his collar and leash; your mother walks out of the door a moment later, closing behind herself. "I'm taking the dog for a walk while you're busy."

""'Kay!"" "Woof!"

You wait until she is out of sight before you continue 'pulling' on Eva... until you feel something react... but nothing happens. Your sister looks over to you again, another pulled weed in her hand. You tilt your head in wonder and pull some more... and then your... no, Eva's arm moves to the side. She eeps and tries to stop it from moving and you quickly let go of whatever you had been pulling on there. "Sorry!"

Your sister shily moves her arm back and looks at her right hand, then back up at you.
Then she looks around; no neighbours... okay, the next actual house is fifty metres away, but still.

"How did you do that?"

She tries to be as quiet as possible while asking... it is probably better to do that, too. If someone hears, you might be in trouble.
"I... uh... I pulled instead of pushing?"
"Huh... um... like this?"

And then you feel something glomp on you. It is there and not at the same time and... and it feels like Eva. And it is warm...

And then it gets stronger, and your leg feels weird and moves up until your knee is at your chest; Eva looks in wonder... you can still feel your leg, but you did not move it... or did you? Weird...

The glomping gets weaker again and your leg stops feeling weird. You put it back down and Eva looks at her arm again... then she goes back to her plants.
But you can feel her pulling you back in and do the same... this is interesting, too.

. . .

. . .

When Eva is done pulling weeds, the sun already started to set... but you learned a lot! You can move her arms and legs and she can move yours... and you even can look through your sister's eyes if you concentrate!

Talking in your head still does not work, though...

Anyway, the two of you get back inside and Eva wipes her sleeve over her sweaty forehead. She is dirty and smells now... you do not mind, but she probably wants to wash herself now.
Thinking of which... you probably should do that, too. It has been three days again.

Interlude - The Second Russian Push
Karina looked down at the map, then back up at the commander of her current operation. Then she wondered why high command wanted them to do all the heavy lifting again. She had really hoped that 2005 would be different than the previous year, even though the first few months had already been taxing again.

"So... just to be clear...", Talia noted next to her, a frown on her face. "We are expected to push through the European defenses along the border and hold a corridor of two hundred square kilometres... supported by eight thousand of your men?"

The greying commander nodded slightly at her, sneering like most people did around Magical Girls. Like her mother did...

"Yes, ma'am. High command is tying up the European defenses in other places, so a concentration of force such as the four of you should be enough to open a path. The platoons sent with you are mostly meant to take hold of any useful infrastructure on the way."

Again with the difficult words... Karina sighed inwardly. She was only fourteen, the girls around her not much older or younger.

Nonetheless, there were four of them. They were a team.
And they were the jewel of Russian military might. With how many troops and Magical Girls were pushing into the motherland from the south and east however, they had to go west for some reason. Other girls more fit for taking out VIPs would take care of the invaders.

Well, Birgit would be there if they had not taken her along.

Speaking of which, the German girl kept staring at the map and had her face all scrunchy; she was probably thinking about all of this.

As for Milena... the youngest of their group and Karina's only actual sister was currently wrapped up in a warm blanket and slept peacefully; she spent a lot of time healing the wounded again, her magic regrowing limbs thought lost and saving lives left and right.

At least they had a few hours before their deployment would begin... the girl needed her rest. And frankly, so did all of them. The constant fighting and killing put a strain on all of them... but Talia most of all, seeing that Karina could not keep her from the brunt of it.

Karina herself was... mostly fine, for some reason. She did not see death as something entirely negative, as everyone and everything would die eventually. But she knew that her Australian comrade often woke up from nightmares.

Hours passed as the troops prepared, their operation set for the following day, the tenth of May. A lone tank division was checked and the four girls this operation would depend on rested, huddled together as if there were no difference between them.

At this point, there really was not. They were sisters in arms, bound by something that ran deeper than blood.

. . .

. . .

"Advancing, no enemy in sight." Karina kept close to Talia as the blazing red girl continued forwards right above the front of their soldiers. Her own, more bland attire probably was still easily visible for any watcher... but that was good. If the defenders ran over seeing them coming, they would not have to fight.

After all, everyone knew that the Four Seasons only took to the field together.

Nonetheless... "Okay, we are far enough. Go ahead, Spring."
Milena had been right behind them, forming a triangle; Birgit always kept out of sight until she was needed to hit something hard.

Now however, her little sister quickly darted to the front of their small formation in the air, raising her hand with a smile; magic glowed from within her, the deep green of growing life.
"Alright then, here I go! Blossom!"

(Blossom Roll: 2482)

The light crashed from the heavens and scattered into countless forms, becoming matter and forming another spearhead for the human soldiers they led. The Incarnations of Life were her sister's pride, large soldiers in the form of trees that did her bidding, protecting the weaker ones from harm with their strength.

They marched onward; Talia held her scepter at the ready, just in case something tried to ambush them. The Magical Girls' auras washed over the front line of trees and empowered them, while every enemy on the field would be weakened as well. None ever stood against their charge before... although Karina knew there were some that could. Japan's Transcendent Trinity was at least their equal, if not stronger... and then there was the White Reaper, that monster of a girl that killed anything she met in battle with one hit.

To be fair, no one was sure whether the White Reaper was even human. Birgit thought it was actually an Angel trying to interfere with the war for some reason. Those things did exist, so it might be the case.

Her musings were interrupted when she saw the light in front of them.

(Horror of War, cast 4 times.
2,997 + 3,096 + 2,293 + 3,188 = 11,564)

Maybe a hundred metres before the front line... it was almost the same green as her sister's, but so sickly and wrong. From where it coalesced, forms started to rise. Monsters of the kind that told Karina all she needed to know.

No...

Before them, an army of Zombie Nightmares had risen.

"Summoner!"

That was one of the soldiers, and the line became a cacophony of cursing and prayers as they all realised just why there were no defenders along their path.

There were none needed.

But why was she here? She was supposed to be fighting in Palestine, far away from the Russian border!

Why had no one known that Nightmare Child was on the move?!

Karina started to shake... and the girls with her did the same. She quickly took Milena's and Talia's hands to comfort them, then looked further outwards while the enemy summons began to fight their own. "It's okay. There are four of us and she seems to be alone. Concentrate."

Talia looked back for a moment, then her fright fell away and the confident smirk reappeared while heat flared from her scepter. That was good... Milena continued to shake, but managed a smile at least.

Then Talia barked into her headset: "Shut up and find her! I need a position to shoot at."

The soldiers took to cover and started taking potshots at the zombies, but Milena's summons already did the work by themselves; in difference to the enemy, those trees could take much more punishment and could also heal some of their wounds as time passed.

The Seasons quickly scattered to make for less obvious targets and to search around; Birgit was already on her way to search for their opponent... if she just found her in time...

Alas, she did not. More light raced forwards from the center of a nearby hill, quickly expanding and engulfing the battlefield.

(Demon of War: +33,000 Base Damage, +5,483 dice, +2,420 Spell Boost = 40,903 Total Damage

Zombie Nightmares total Health: 1,102,000 -10,321,000 = -9,219,000
~5,000,000 Vampire)

The surge swept away every last of Milena's summons, turning them to dust as it passed alongside some zombies caught in the crossfire. Everything within half a kilometre degraded into nothing, plants falling apart and all life ceasing.

There was no shockwave, not even a strong gust in the air... everything just died where it stood, and the thin streams of green light flowed back to the hill the catastrophy had come from

Karina could feel it, could hear the screams of the soldiers that were swept away below her. She was Autumn's Dream, the bringer of decay that always followed the blossoming of life in summer... but this was...

This was...

"Autumn, get a grip!"

She flinched and shook her head, averting her gaze from the wasteland below; Talia... Summer was aiming at the hill the attack had come from... and Karina could see a figure standing there, sickly green light wrapping around her dark form. The battlefield was not silent as it should be after this... and the zombies advanced on their remaining troops.

"Fallen Ember!"

(Fallen Ember: +15,000 Base Damage, +2,317 dice, +14,694 dice, + 33,404 Spell Boost = 65,415 Total Damage
Fallen Ember: +15,000 Base Damage, +12,295 dice, +7,476 dice, +13,670 Spell Boost = 48,441 Total Damage

109,451 Total End Damage

False Existence (50%): 54,726 Final End Damage

Nightmare Child remaining Health: 330,000 - 54,726 = 275,274)

The hill and everything around it exploded into flames before the heat washed over it... but the green and black monster that stood upon it was thrown away by the force of Talia's spell; she impacted somewhere in the countryside behind what was now a flat land of glass.

"Retreat."
That was Birgit, from wherever she was. The brunette remained calm over the screaming and fright somehow, directing the soldiers with a practiced voice. "Fall back to the breach and then return to base. Inform the commander that the operation failed."

They could not fight Nightmare Child, even Karina knew this. Not without risking their own lifes in the process... which they must not do. Both for the motherland and for each other.
And despite everything, Karina did not want to die.

Talia went on to glass the oncoming zombies while their soldiers retreated in unorderly flight... but no one pursued. There were no more attacks... nothing.

Milena darted over to her and hid in Karina's arms, the older sister quickly wrapping her arms around the younger one; the warmth was welcome, at least it helped a little against the numbness over what she just saw.

They met the grim reaper.

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

From within the cover of trees, another fourteen-year-old watched the retreating soldiers without much emotion.

At least they were more reasonable than other groups she fought. Or maybe it was the girls leading them; the Four Seasons of all people.

It was good that they retreated. Against those four, even Magical Girl Nightmare Child would have been hard pressed.

She did not want to die, either.

If just the screaming would stop...

"Let's go bathing together!"
Eva is surprised for a moment, but she seems to like the idea you just had. It has been ages since you could do that... or at least a month. Anyway, it is always fun to sit in the tub together, that makes soaking less boring.

You just have to be careful not to splash around too much, or your mother will scold you again.

Anyway, you take your sister's sweaty hand and pull her inside.

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

The warm water feels nice on your skin, so nice and cozy... Eva sits next to you in the water, her eyes closed and humming happily.
You like that.

Then your eyes fall onto the bandages on the ground... wait, is the hot water really good for her?

Eva does not seem to mind, but... hm.
You look closer, with how you sit to her right... but there is nothing. Just pale skin like you have... huh? Was it on the other side?

"Rico?"
You shake off the thought and look at your sister instead. "Doesn't the cut hurt?"
"Hm? Oh."

She looks down and feels over her side, the one you can see... wait, that was the right one? What happened that the wound is gone? Eva suddenly starts looking like a sheep... no, that was another word... sheepish? Maybe.

Anyway, she looks like that and tells you: "I... I kind of healed it..."

Oh.

You look at each other, then back at the bandages still on the floor.
It was not supposed to be gone already... and you both know that. Your mother knows that as well, so once she looks, she will know that something is up.

Your stomach feels really heavy all of a sudden and you quickly take Eva's hand; she squeezes back as strong as you squeeze her.

Aside from your thundering heartbeat, neither of you reacts for a while.

You both know what happens if you are found out. Even if you are Magical Girls now, you do not want that. You really do not want that...

"We get up first, Rico. Maybe she lets it be if we put on the bandages ourselves?"
It is little more than a whisper, but you can hear it clearly. Some of the words echo over your connection and you nod slowly. That is... probably the best you can do to try and stop your mother from finding out.

You still hope she will love you anyway... but if she does not...
It does not help that bad taste you had ever since this morning to go away; keeping secrets from your parent like that... this is just wrong.

Shaking your head, you push off the thought and squeeze Eva's hand again, then let go. She looks at you, a little calmer than before but still upset... so you pull over the shampoo and smile at your sister. "Come on, I wash your hair."

"Okay."

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

You make sure to wash your sister properly and she does the same for you; Eva is really careful with your longer hair and makes sure it is all clean... and you know she likes playing with shampoo. It is so bubbly...

When you leave the bathroom dressed in your cute pyjamas, there is already the scent of something nice in the air... but your thoughts are still elsewhere; no matter how much you try to not think about everything, it just comes back after a while.

Eva is the same, you can tell. And she can tell that you think about it, too.

You smile for your mother, though. She did nothing wrong, so it would be mean to make her sad. She has this weird mother-sense where she knows when you do not feel good, though... so maybe she does notice? If yes, then she does not say anything about it.

Either way, your tests earlier showed that there is still more you can find out about your connection... and you kind of need to. Someone will notice that you both feel hurt when one of you hurts later.

So after you are done eating and chatting with your mother, the two of you go back to your room to 'play'.
Well... okay, you will play, just not what your mother probably thinks. Eva has ideas again!

The both of you sit down on the ground, with Ludger staying in the living room today; you are happy about this, he would be really distracting.

Eva pokes you a few times, then pulls and you do the same to get a better feeling for your sister; it is still really weird to touch each other without touching anything. Your sister frowns and looks at you some more. "We need to stop everything from coming over. But how do we do that, Rico?"

That is a problem, yes. But how do you do that?
When you do not want Ludger to come into your room, you close the door... hm... but does that work the same way?

You test it and try to push something between you and Eva... and it just *clicks* into place, making both of you flinch at the sudden change.
The warmth from feeling each other is still there, but you get nothing from your sister anymore... the stray feelings are gone.

"What did you do, Rico?"
After a short explanation, you have your twin hugging you tightly. "That's a great idea!"
And it worked, too. That is nice; Eva normally has the ideas and you have the plans, but you are happy you can do some of the work as well.

"But we need to find out if it worked..."
Your sister looks around, then back at you and then at herself... then she starts pinching her arm.

You feel nothing even when tears appear in her eyes from how hard she pinches... so you quickly stop her. "Eva! It's okay, don't do that!"

She lets go and you crawl over to look at her arm... it is really red and you wince from just seeing that. But you do not feel any of it from your sister. "I think it works..."

What you fail to see is how her expression changes to a bright smile.
"Oh, I know how we can test some more!"
And then you feel hands on your side, tickling you. Not again!

There is nothing you can do to stop Eva, not when she got you like this... and you laugh loudly while she attacks you without mercy. "E-Eva, stop! Please, I give up!"
"Nope."

She pops the p somehow and continues tickling until your face is really hot from laughing so much and you have trouble breathing, panting heavily.

Then your door opens and has your mother looking inside... until her gaze falls on the two of you; you are lying on the ground with Eva straddling you.

She just hangs in the door and looks at the two of you until you get the feeling she might know something is up.
"...what exactly are you doing?"
...
"Playing?"
...
Another pause as she takes in Eva's response, then she rolls her eyes and smiles at you. "I see... but keep it down a bit, would you? It is getting late."

You look at each other and Eva is obviously happy that you were not found out. ""Okay!""
Then she retreats out of the room and your sister gets off of you; her pyjamas are crumpled and the topmost button got undone somewhere down the line.

You are probably no different... so the two of you spend a minute rearranging your clothes.
"I could not feel anything from you, either. It really worked, Rico... I am so glad!"
"Me too."

You beam at each other and hug, then go back to the poking; this is fun once you get the hang of it... but now that you think about it, you probably could have stopped Eva from tickling you by pulling her arms...
Speaking of which...

With a quick glomp onto your sister, you have her open her palm and then make a fist... yes, it still works. She does the same and makes you tap your feet a few times, then you smile at each other again. These feelings are still weird, but you can work with that.

But in the end, you let out a wide yawn that your sister echoes after a moment. You now know you can still send feelings to each other... but your heads are yours again. That is nice.

When you climb up the ladder to your bed, you can feel a wave of warmth from Eva. She seems happy with everything you did today.

But you are both tired... now is a good time to-

. . .

. . .

Everything shakes and a man falls from the sky. You can not see his face, only the large, pretty wings attached to his back. White flashes above and the light quickly fades...

When it turns completely dark, you feel yourself floating... floating next to an older girl, naked and crying and bleeding and hurt... and then she begins to glow.

A flash... and then nothing.

It is early when you wake from that strange dream, just like yesterday. Eva is already doing stuff elsewhere, though; she got up before you again.

Muttering over things, you climb out of bed and quickly get yourself dressed, then hurry over to the bathroom; you can hear steps outside while you wash up and comb your hair, then the door opens and your sister enters, poking you with a wave of happiness again. "Good morning, Rico."

"Good morning, Eva."

She closes the door behind her and finishes your hair for you. While that happens, you are already getting the bandages you now know are here in the cabinet.

Once Eva is done with you, you turn to her with a smile. "Okay, my turn."
She smiles back and lifts up her shirt so you can get to her side; now, how did that work... you just have to wrap it around, that can not be this hard.

Eva holds onto the one end over her side while you slowly walk around her and make sure the bandage sits tight; there is no need to be careful, your sister is not hurt anymore.

So you go around a few times until it looks mostly like what your mother did yesterday and clip the end closed. "There, all done."

Once you leave the room, Ludger is already by your side again and you spend a minute petting him. Such a cute dog...

Eva lets go of him first, bouncing over to the kitchen and then quickly running off to water her plants. She really likes them... and you like them too, just not in the same way. They are pretty, but boring.

MOON Heading Out
[X] Call your friends; you want to play later

Rico is playing with the dog again when you go back inside; Ludger yips happily from where he lies on the ground and you smile at the two.

Then you make him run away from Rico by rustling with his collar a bit. He is with you in moments and seeing him run like that makes your sister giggle. You giggle about is as well and poke Rico with how funny you find it. She pokes back... and it got a little easier, you are sure of that.

"Come on, Ludger."
You click the leash into his collar and he already taps forward to the door; Rico keeps sitting on the ground, but gets up the moment you look at her.

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

There is absolutely nothing happening this morning. Not that it bothers you, but Rico is bored again.

Now that you think about it, she probably wants to go play with her friends later. She does not really like staying at home over the weekend... but she did stay yesterday and you are happy that she did.

The question is, do you want to go with her?

Not really... you like your sister's friends, but they are always so loud. It is like having five Rico's around. You much rather like Elisa, she is nice and calm.

You like scavenging, too. There are always fun things to be found... when no giant spider-monsters show up.

The walk ends soon and you are back home. It was nice to have some fresh air, though.

However... when you open the door, you can already hear something sizzling and smell breakfast in the air. Taking off your shoes, both of you look at each other and then dart to the kitchen.

It actually happened, you see when peeking inside; there she is, your mother... making food for you. She really got up early for once.

"Woof!"
But Ludger destroys the surprise by running through the door between you, making your mother turn around and smile at you. "There you are. Good morning, girls." ""Good morning!""

You smile right back; it is a nice morning after all. Sundays are good days, even when school starts again tomorrow; your mother hums and turns back to the stove. "Go set the table, I'm done here in a minute or two. And we need to apply new bandages, Eva."

You look at each other over that and Rico gives you an uneasy nod. So you are thinking the same thing.

"Um... Mommy? We already did that."
Now this has her look at you again, measuring first your sister and then you for a moment. Your heart almost stops from nervousness, but then she nods and turns back again. "Okay. Let me take a look after breakfast, just to make sure you did it right."

"Okay..."
"You're mean, Mommy! I did it just like you did yesterday!"
Rico pouts, though; she takes the plates and runs over to the table, then sits down there and crosses her arms; it is actually really cute when she does that.

You giggle while bringing over the forks and knifes, then sit down next to your twin and pet her head. "There there, Rico."

She still pouts, but you can tell it is fine because she does not shake off your hand. She always does that when she is not just pretending.

Your mother chuckles while putting down the food on your plates, but does not say anything for now. You leave Rico alone once she grabs for her fork and take your own; today's breakfast is bread with scrambled eggs.

And it tastes great; your sister seems to think the same, seeing how fast she eats.

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

Once you are done and the dishes rest in the sink, your mother walks you over to the bathroom and looks at the bandages; Rico stands next to her to watch, but the adult only looks over them... you do think you did well, so she may think so, too?

"Hm..."

She pulls a little bit on a few crumpled ends and smoothes them out, but leaves the bandage alone before giving your sister a nod and a smile. "I take it all back, Rico. Good work."

You rarely saw Rico beam like that... and there even is a wave of pride rolling... no, it is there that you can feel it, but it does not really go all over you. Weird. But this feels better than everything being all intense.

You smile at your sister and then follow her out of the room.
So... what to do today? You already know that you can not be alone at home this time; your mother will stay to prepare things for school and clean up a bit. Maybe you could help her?

Rico is already running for the phone to call her friends to play... mhm, you could go with her, too. Or you could visit Elisa or... or go over your homework again. Or maybe read that book your mother got you?

So many choices...
You sit down on the couch while Rico babbles to whoever is on the other end, then cross your arms and start thinking really hard.
What do you want to do?

Ludger is here, too. Lazing around in his basket is what he does.

Actually, he lost a lot of hair again... stupid spring...
Now that you actually noticed, this is not at all good. There is dirt and dust and dog hairs all over the place... and after you have seen it, you can not unsee the sight.

Maybe it really is a good idea to clean up. You can spend some time with your mother afterwards, then prepare your things for tomorrow. Oh, right... you also need to pack a bag for gym class.

That sounds nice. A nice Sunday.

Pick three:

[] Read a book

[] Help your mother cleaning up

[] Play with Ludger

[] Prepare your things for-

And then someone pokes your cheek. Eep!

You flinch away and look at the one responsible, your very one twin sister; Rico seems a little curious and her finger follows you as you retreat over the couch. "What are you thinking about?"

"Huh?"
"I called you three times and you didn't hear me, so spill!"

Oh... did she?
You try to dodge the finger again and have it rub over your neck instead while ducking below Rico and bringing the couch between you. "Um... I thought what to do today? You don't need to be mean about it..."

Your sister gives you a look and tilts her head in wonder. "What do you mean, what you do? We're scavening with Bruno and everyone!"

We? Oh no, she just decided without you again...
"Don't give me that look, Eva! You can't just sit at home all the time!"

You continue pouting at her just because you can. You like being at home, it is nice and safe and pretty and Ludger is there, too.
Then Rico pouts back at you and it becomes a fight. Who gives in first?

You even make your lip quiver and try to not look her in the eyes, but she does the same to you and ducks her head and then looks away and... oh... you do not like it when she looks so sad, even if she is only pretending.

"O-Okay... I guess..."
"Really?! Wohoo!"

And there she is beaming again, then runs around the couch and takes your hand to pull you along. "It's a promise!"

Oh Rico...

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

The others are already waiting for you on the bridge; you always meet here because most of the children in Verona live on the other side... it is mostly older people on your side... but the school is closer and you like the house a lot.

Bruno is waving at you in the same way Rico waves their way; he is a little bigger than the two of you and has blond hair that is a little shorter than yours; you forgot the names of the other two boys, though... Rico talks about her friends a lot, but you do not go around with them that often.

The other girl with them is Henrietta, though. She is in your class, too.

You greet each other with cheer... well, you greet and Rico brings the cheer, but it counts!
Anyway, there are hugs and you try to wiggle yourself out of it, but the others have none of it and hug you, too. Everyone gets along really well... but they are still a little too close.

Thankfully, Henri lets go after a bit and you can breathe again.
Then however, Bruno looks at you with... uh, is that concern? "Rico said you got hurt. How bad is it?"

Oh, that. You exchange a glance with your twin, who shrugs and leaves you to answer... so you do. "Um... I... I got a big cut i-in my side."

You mostly mumble while not looking him in the eyes. It feels weird to do that and you always stutter a bit when talking to someone you do not know so well.

"But Eva is okay... but I won't let her carry any stuff today, so we got only five bags."
Rico quickly follows up on what you said and raises her own bag... thinking of it, you left yours in that other building with the spider-monster. You liked that bag...

"Oh, okay."
No one minds you just running along with them... that is nice. "W-Where are we going?"
The boys look at each other over your question, then one of Bruno's friends raises his hand with a bright smile. "The suburbs!"

Oh. That is a little bit away from where you are now. But if you want to have enough time to scavenge properly, you should get going.

Rico thinks the same, seeing that she points forwards. "Alright then, let's go!"

And marches off, the rest following as cheerfully.

. . .
Line Break recognised
. . .

It is nice to explore things with everyone; everyone is in a good mood and chatters away... you like just listening to them. Rico is better talking to others, anyway...

Many of the buildings were already cleared out, but there is still enough for you to find some nice things, even a few flashlights and a few difficult-looking books. No one wants the books, so you tell Rico to please take them along for you.

While you are at it, your sister tells everyone how you met the spider-monster. They heard that something happened and looked really interested... and scared. And you made sure she did not mention how she hurt her ankle; that would not have healed by now, so someone would know something was up.

There are other children around scavenging too, most of them older than you. This is great fun and everyone likes it.

However, you try to always keep the important rules in mind and tell the others when they forget.

First, do not take things too heavy to carry.
Second, do not take anything personal, just in case whoever lived in the place comes back to get it.
Third, if a building looks not secure, do not go inside.

You have a nice little stack in the afternoon, everyone found something cute or nice to take along and you can not wait to ask your mother what those books are about.

Henrietta has been staying by your side most of the time, talking to you and being a sweet girl overall. Maybe she feels bad because everyone else talks to Rico far more than you? Either way, it is nice of her to do this. You give her a big smile to thank her, making her smile in return.

In the end, you say goodbye to everyone just a few minutes before the sun sets. Rico hugs her friends... and Henrietta hugs you, too. The boys are nice and leave you be.

You are exhausted... not from walking around, although your feet hurt a bit. You really do not understand how your sister can keep up with her friends like she does.

Now you just want to have dinner, drink some juice and have a nice evening.

There is still some time to spend after dinner. So pick one:

PRIMEVAL Sister
[X] Read a book

After a great dinner, Eva gets the book your mother gave her a while ago and went back to your room; mother likes to watch TV in the evening, so she could not read there. You follow her and Ludger follows you, but she does not mind; Eva likes reading a lot for some reason, even when it is boring.

So... what do you do? Poking her now would be mean and not fair after you already pulled your sister along the whole day.

She turns on the small light she has on her bed for reading, then lies down on her belly with her head on the pillow and the book right in front of her, looking at the cover for a moment before opening it.

Hm...
What do you do now?

Ah!

You quickly sit down and have Ludger sit with you, then hug him and try to see through Eva's eyes; the first thing you see is yourself, though... but she quickly looks back at her book and goes back to the first line.

Heh, you can read like this! This is nice.

It is actually a nice story, too; something about a boy that wants to be a hero... you did not really have the time to read it properly, Eva is a faster reader than you.

And you kind of were more excited to play around with your connection...

Anyway, she puts down the book after a few chapters and puts in her pink bookmark, then sets it down and you two wash up before going to sleep.

There is ice and snow everywhere... some water, too. It is bright with the sunlight reflecting everywhere.

Your big sister is there, her sundress fluttering in the breeze; she sits on a small hill of ice like a throne, unmoving and looking forwards.

You glide closer to touch her, but she does not react... she is crying. The tears are frozen to her face.

Your eyes open just a few moments before the alarm starts beeping. Eva lets it ring while she gets up... so you have to climb down and do it yourself despite of how your eyes burn a little and you have stuff in them.. She always does that so you get up, the meany...

After turning it off, you think back and wonder what kind of weird dream that was. Then you shake your head and look at what Eva is doing; she usually gets up earlier than you, but you doubt you could sleep any longer after that. Ugh... morning... but you have to get up anyway. You have school today.

""Good morning.""

You greet each other as usual and get dressed, then Eva starts filling her bag with gym clothes and you quickly do the same after making sure the backpack is ready. You only have one because of the... uh... the thing where people only get as little stuff as necessary. You two got to the same school and are in the same class, so you have only one backpack and one set of books.

You do not mind that, though. Sharing with Eva is fine.
Hm...

"It's your turn to carry the backpack... but I guess I'll take it today."
You usually switch doing this each week... but with how your sister is'hurt', that would be weird. Eva looks up from the shorts she is folding and nods at you. "Thank you. I'm almost done... can you do my bandages?"

Of course, you should do that before your mother wants to do it... so you quickly get out of the room and run over to the bathroom, take the bandages and that weird scissor you use to cut them, then run back and close the door behind you.

Eva is looking a little confused, but starts to understand once she sees what you brought with you. She finishes packing her bag and zips it closed, then gets up and lifts her sweater over her head; maybe you should have done that before getting dressed... huh...

Whatever, you quickly take off the last set of bandages and just throw it to the ground, then fix a new one in place and make sure it is smooth this time. You ponder making a bow with the two ends for a moment, but mother would probably not find it as cute as you do.

With the bandages in place, you help Eva pull down her sweater again, then take up the old pile and both of you head out to the kitchen, where you can already smell toast waiting for you. Your mother is there too, packing lunch for the three of you and filling some bottles with water.
"Good morning, Mommy!" "Good Morning!"

Ludger looks up from his bowl, but seems to decide he likes his breakfast more right now. Your mother turns her head for a moment and smiles at you, then repeats the greeting and gets back to making food for you. Eva takes her seat while you take the small pile of old bandages over to your parent. "Where do I put these?"

She gives you a quick glance, then points at the trashcan. "Just throw them away."
"Okay."

With that done, you sit down and have breakfast. It is rather quiet and you like that... it helps waking up some more and now you actually notice that the sun just got up.

"I want you to come home right after school today; we have to clean up a bit for Bianca."

Oh... oh, right. Big sister is coming tomorrow!
That thought blasts the tiredness away and you poke Eva happily. She pokes back and you beam at each other. ""Okay!""

You pet Ludger goodbye and then leave the house. He has some water and his basket to sleep in, so he will be fine. Your mother already went ahead before you left, but you are on time... she just has teacher-stuff to prepare.

The walk to school is... chilly. It is not really bright just yet and the air is cold; at least you have a jacket to cover you.

Your friends are always later than you, though; they have longer ways to walk and your family makes sure you are up and going in time.

But the cold air at least wakes you up.

You enter the classroom a little after half past seven, so you still have... ugh, Anastasia.
There she sits in the last row, her arms folded and looking out of the window... then she sees your reflection and turns around to glare. You glare right back.

She is a bully and picks on Eva.
You do not like her at all... no one does, really. That does not make her stop, though... and the teachers like her because she does her homework and is smart. She even looks nice with her nice face and long hair, but she is just sooo mean.

Eva ducks away and just pulls you along to the second row, where your seats are, but you can tell Anastasia is still looking at you.

With how close you live to the school, you are usually here before most of the others; only one or two are otherwise around.

Then there is a sigh behind you. "Oh dear... good morning, you three."
That voice is... you turn around together with your sister and find an older girl walking up, her blonde hair neatly done in a cute ponytail; she takes her seat in the third row and smiles at the two of you.

"Good morning, Elisa."
"Good morning."
"Good morning."

Even Anastasia responds after a moment... but Eva seems the most happy to see her friend; Elisa is pretty and nice, a little more than a year older than you and everyone likes her.

Everyone, even Anastasia. You are surprised that girl likes anyone at all.

Elisa continues being bright, but takes out her books and starts looking through her notes. Everyone else comes in after her... and you start talking to Henrietta.

It is mostly girls here, seeing that the boys are helping out in the fields. With how few children there are, you only have three classes, too; first to fourth year are together, then fifth to eight year and ninth to twelfth year. You are in the first group, soon moving up to fourth grade. That will be nice, especially summer break...

But the teacher comes in, so you stop thinking about that while Class starts.

. . .

School is great today!

With Eva and you working together, you can solve everything the teachers give you! Mostly math and stuff, but still... everyone looks at you when you give the right answers and even the teacher praises you!

Your connection is so neat! You can concentrate lots better, too!

Even when everyone says they are terrible... being Magical Girls is not as bad as you thought it would be... if you just did not have to lie to your friends and your mother about it... but thinking about that will not help.

You play tag with your friends during the breaks... and notice her watching you as you play, but she quickly gets back to her book once she knows you know. Whatever Anastasia was looking for, you made sure Eva was with you... no bullying your sister.

Gym class is nice, too. You are pretty good at it.

When classes were over Elisa stayed behind for some reason... you were too busy complaining about the homework to ask, though.

Nothing really happened on the walk home and now you are here... you would much rather play, but big sister is coming! Playing can wait!

Ludger already comes running when you unlock the door and yips happily, so you pet his head. Eva puts down her bag and looks at him for a moment, then looks at you. "I think I should walk him now. Can you take my bag?"

You just take it and smile at your sister... it is a little heavy now, with two bags and the backpack, but you just walk over to the bathroom while you can hear some rustling behind you and the door closing.

While you are busy pulling the sweaty gym clothes out of your bags, you try to look through Eva's eyes for a bit and see some of your neighbours smiling and greeting her. Ludger plays around with some of the other doggies in the neighbourhood, too. That is really cute...

Eva thinks the same, but you stop looking after a while and get back to throwing your clothes into the basket one by one, then turn the bags inside-out to air them; just like your mother showed you to do it.

She has yet to come home, but that is normal; teachers stay longer to do teacher-stuff.

So you put the bags away and then go to get your books out of the backpack -ugh, homework-... and then there is not much else to do. Except that Eva is back and already goes to get the cleaning stuff you need for later.

But you are hungry, too... you do not want to work.

So you decide to be unfair and go grab your sister by the hand, then bring her to the couch and hug her tight. A little waving with one hand brings Ludger to hop up and lie down at her other side, so now you have her trapped while she looks at you.

But Eva understands what you want and lets you. So now she is your teddy bear.

You cuddle up and feel her arms squeeze you back, and both of you just sit like that. It is nice and warm...

You are now Eva and have no idea how long you have been sitting on the couch, but Rico lets go once you hear the door opening. Mother is home...

But you are really comfy right now and... maybe a few more minutes? So you just hold on and do not let her go, the warm Ludger at your other side just staying where he is.
"Eva?"
"Mhn..."

You mumble into her side and just hold on... and she lets you, too. Hugging Rico is nice...

You hear some shuffling in the hallway and... is that laughing? Maybe... eh, it does not matter. You just stay where you are.

After some more minutes, Rico shifts and you pout at her... but let go. It is probably time to get up... and you can smell something nice from the kitchen.
Food has you both go exploring for what your lunch will be.

The rest of the day passes by like that, you clean up and do your homework and walk the dog again and then it is time for bed already... it was still really dirty in a lot of places, so you made dinner after you were done cleaning. But it was fun, too... everyone worked hard and mother gave you ice cream when you were done.

So now you lie down and close your eyes... but you can feel Rico looking forward to tomorrow. Even with this... this block in place, you can still feel how happy she is.

And you are, too. It has been months since big sister was here. She is the best big sister in the world.

And she is coming here!

Myriads of colours pass by, changing and forming shapes you can not see before they are gone.

Empty echos...

You float nowhere and everywhere...

When you wake up, there is nothing left of tonight's dream. You just remember that it was really weird.

But that does not matter, because big sister is on her way. She will be here when you get out of school and you can play and watch TV together and she can read books to you and... and... oh, so much to do!

You let the alarm ring for Rico and jump out of bed... but she is already coming down from her bed, beaming and turning off the noise before getting her own clothes and dressing herself. Lots of happiness come over your connection and you push as much of yours to your sister.

You are both so happy today... nothing can make it bad. Nothing.

School goes by slowly, but you do not really care. You just take care of the questions you get and play around during the breaks. Rico told her friends that you can not play after school for a few days because big sister is there, too... Anstasia trips you on the way back to class, but you do not mind it much today.

And lesson after lesson... you do not get any homework. This really is the best day ever... or at least the best day this year.

So when the last lesson is over, the two of you are the first to leave; Rico grabs the backpack, you stuff everything inside and then you wave your friends goodbye before running off.

When you reach your home, she is already there; you can tell because there is a car parked nearby. And because she is sitting at the table on the patio, reading some things... but she looks up before you can call out to her, a gust of air making her short hair curl.

She looks just like you remember her, pretty and calm... her hair is about as long as yours and she is still bigger than you, but you are getting there!

"Big sis!"
Rico is already running again and you follow her; your sister gets up from the chair and has you both come up to her, then hugs you tightly.

"Eva, Rico. It's good to see you."

You hug her back and then let go and smile up at her, but Rico is faster than you. "Play with us, big sis!"

She looks at you for a moment, the cold look going away quickly and becoming a smile; big sister looks at the papers she was reading before, then ruffles your hair and nods towards the house. "I don't mind. Go bring your things inside, I'm right behind you."
""'Kay!""

You run to the door and open up; Ludger is already waiting there, wagging his tail and yipping happily.

Rico goes ahead to throw the backpack somewhere while you pet the dog, then look behind to make sure big sister is really right behind you; she likes doing work, so you have to check. You see her putting away those papers into a bag she had leaned to the table, then close it and sling it over her shoulder.

When she finds you looking, she smiles at you and walks over to crouch next to you; then she joins in petting the dog. "Hey there, Ludger. You're living the life?"

He yips again and licks her hand, as if to tell her something. Your big sister laughs and ruffles his fur again, then lets him be and wipes her hand with a handkerchief. She closes the door with her foot and you can hear Rico coming back.

You let go of Ludger and look around... huh... you probably should walk him, but... but... ugh... you want big sister, so... can he wait?

Rico probably feels it and looks where you are looking, then sighs and takes the collar; Ludger is with her so fast that you can not even see him move. "I go with him, but promise you don't start having fun without me."

Oh... that is really nice of her. You smile at your sister and big sister does the same, then presses a fist to her chest. "I solemnly swear to you that we will not eat the sweets I brought you before you're back."

That has both of you stop and look at your sibling in awe; she brought you sweets? That is great, you have so few chances to eat them!

Big sister laughs again and walks past Rico, then gives her a nudge. "You should go now."
Your sister nods and puts the collar on the dog, then runs over to the door... and looks back. "No fun before I'm back. I will know if you start without me."

You giggle and wave until she turns around and leaves fast; Ludger runs after her without a care and you feel an arm snake around your shoulder. Looking up, you find your big sister giving you another smile and a slight squeeze. "You're taller each time I get to see you."

You smile back and take her hand, then pull her over to the living room to sit with you and climb onto her lap. This is your only chance to have big sister for yourself, so you will use it!

She only chuckles and wraps her arms around you, making you feel warm and comfy. This is nice...

When Rico comes back, she finds you cuddling on the couch and quickly jumps up to you. "Hey, me too!"

Aw... now you have to share again. You slide off of big sister's lap and to her side while your sister takes the other, then you both snuggle up to her. She is going exactly nowhere for now.
Not that she made any move to go, but you never know...

"So this is how it's going to be?"
You just press yourself closer to her side and say nothing; Rico probably does the same.

You are not sure how much time passes... but the first thing that happens is your mother coming home. You can see her from turning your head, standing in the doorway and smiling.
"I would greet you properly, mother... but... as you can see, I was taken prisoner."

You giggle with your parent and Rico does something on the other side... then she shouts cheerfully: "Yup, Big sis is our prisoner now and we won't let her go."

Your mother chuckles some more, then hides her mouth behind her hand. "Oh no, what should I do? Please, have mercy on an old woman... how much do you want for my child's release? Can I bribe you with lunch?"

Hm... lunch is tempting and you are pretty hungry. You lean a little bit forwards to look at Rico, who looks back. She is not sure, either.

But in the end, your tummy decides that food is important and you nod at your sister, who then nods at your mother. "Fine, but we wanna see the goods first."

Now both adults break into laughter and you join them. Even you can tell that this is from some movie you watched together, even if you are not sure which one.

You sit like this until your mother is done making lunch, then let go and eat together; Rico is talking enough for the four of you, chatting about... everything, really. You just let her and eat quietly, observing the adults at the table; both of them are smiling

Then you spend the rest of the day playing with your big sister. There are not that many games around to play, but you make do and have fun; and you show her your garden and the pretty pictures you have been drawing... you think she likes it. Big sister smiles.

In the evening, the three of you go out to walk Ludger; Rico has the leash and the corgi runs around excitedly.

Your big sister is walking between the two of you, looking around as you go; she only sees the city once a year and they are still busy building lots of things, so it is different each time.
Rico stopped talking a while ago... you are not sure why, but she might have nothing more to talk about.

The quiet is nice, though.

"I heard what happened from mother."

Huh? You turn your head and look up at her; Rico does the same and Bianca gives you both a concerned glance. "About the attack."

Oh. You blink at your big sister and wonder when they could have talked about that without you hearing; you have been with her ever since she arrived.

Wait... if she knows, then she knows you are 'hurt'... what if she wants to check? You do not have any reason not to let her see...

"Are you two okay?"

You both nod at big sister and she gives you a long look each; she can tell if you lie, but this one is not wrong... you are okay now, even if you were scared a lot.
"I see. That's good to hear."

She leaves it be and you continue on your way.

But nobody came

You are now Rico once more.

When you open your eyes the next morning, you have no idea if you dreamed anything or not. You are still not happy that you were not allowed to sleep with big sister, anyway.

But now that the night is over, you can go play with her again... no, wait... you have... school. Ugh.

After pushing yourself out of bed and getting dressed, you quickly shuffle Eva over to the bathroom to change her bandages again.

Then you have breakfast with everyone; big sister is already awake and reading a newspaper when you enter, but she puts it down at once and smiles at you. After wishing each other a good morning, you get to eat and make yourself ready to head out. Eva pokes you with unhappiness and you poke her with your own. Neither of you wants to leave big sister alone.

"Don't worry about me; I have Ludger here and some work of my own to do."
Now you blink back at her; as if she knew what you were thinking... but only Eva can do that, this is not fair!

You pout at being found out and both adults chuckle about it.

Nothing interesting happens in school, either... you do good again, play in the breaks and tell your friends you have no time later. They can wait when big sis is around.

Speaking of, she is already waiting for you when you come back home, Ludger lying curled up by her feet and dozing while she reads.

Then you sit next to her again and the book is put away. The title looks complicated... and it is in English, for that matter.

But you are with her now, so everything is good. Her arms are around your shoulders and you enjoy being with your siblings; your family is the best.

Then your big sister sighs.
"I think we played around for long enough. What did really happen last Friday?"

Huh?

You look up at big sister... and she has her serious face. The one she only has when she wants to really know what you did... but... why? How? You put so much effort into making sure she does not know...

Over your stunned silence, she adds another question: "You are Magical Girls, aren't you?"

You may or may not be in trouble. But then again, do you really want to lie to the person you love the most?

SUN Confession
[X] Admit it
-[X] We've never been able to lie to big sis; but if big sis thought we were bad. She would have brought soldiers with her.

Your body grows cold in an instant.

She knows.

But... but you can not lie to big sis... even when it will be really, really bad... but if it was, she would have brought soldiers, right?

"...yes..."
Eva whispers your response, shivering and shaking and pale... and then you feel your big sister's arms squeeze you both a little tighter, bringing you a little closer. "I see."

She looks at you both for a moment and pauses for some reason... is she thinking about what to do with you? You can not run away with how you are...

Oh please, please don't bring us to them...

You can feel the fear from your sister and are no better yourself; your vision blurs under tears as the silence continues... and then she just squeezes you again. "It's fine. No one knows and I won't tell."

Huh?

It takes a moment to take in what she just said... but you stop and look up at her with hope growing; your heart stops being heavy and hurting and... and big sister smiles at you both. "You're safe with me."

"R-Really? You... you don't hate us?"
You have trouble speaking and your voice almost breaks and you still can not believe what you just heard, but... big sister just nods and pulls you so close you both can rest your heads at her chest. "Never. No matter what happens, I will never, ever hate you."

Thank god...

You scrunch up and hug her with all your strength, then just cry into her chest in relief.
You are safe! You... you can live!

"How do you know? Did someone see us?"

It is the first thing Eva asks after you stopped crying; your big sister left you where you were, nestled against her while she holds you... but now she lets go a bit so you can look at her again. There is a weak smile on her face while her hands slide higher to stroke your hair.

"No, no one reported Magical Girls. And I didn't know."

Huh... huh? How does that work.

She presses a little stronger for a moment; that tells you to just stay quiet while big sister explains, so you do.

"You did a good job in hiding what happened... but there was a small detail that destroyed your work. Eva, you got that cut in your side, right?"

Your sister nods shily, her swollen eyes never leaving Bianca's face. "Your shirt had none, but it should have. Mother noticed that one and became suspicious."

Oh. But... from just that?

As if she read the question from your face, big sister smiles and shakes her head. "No, she was not sure at all. As I said, you did well in hiding... but mother is mother, she could tell there was something going on."

Urgh... you really forgot that part? But...
"Are you telling Mommy?"

Now you get the calm look she gave Eva before... and another rub over your head. "I just said I won't tell anyone. Unless you want her to know, I will not. In fact, I will tell her there is nothing; she brought me in because we both know you won't lie to me."

So... it was a trap all along? And your mother called Bianca over to make sure they found the truth?
...ugh, how mean.

"But... but you said you didn't know..."
"I didn't", she interrupts Eva with a mean smirk. "But I can tell when you lie to me, so I would have known no matter which answer you gave me."

So... it was a trick. Your big sister bluffed you!
But before you can start pouting, her look becomes nicer. "This kind of secret... is not something you would come out about, and that is good. You did not tell anyone, did you?"

You both shake your head.
"Would you have told me?"
You think for a moment, then shake your heads again. You were far too afraid...
"So I had to come and ask... I'm sorry for scaring you like that."

The arms around you squeeze again and you just hug your big sister tightly. "It's fine... everything is okay, so we forgive you."

Eva nods into Bianca's chest, agreeing to what you said. She just hugs you tight again, then sighs and continues while looking at the ceiling. "But... in all honesty, you could tell mother as well. She won't hate you for it, either. We all know awakening magic is not something one can control."

"How do you know she doesn't hate us?" "Are you a Magical Girl?"
You speak at the same time, then look at each other while your big sister goes over what you just said. Then she looks at you with a shake of her head. "No, I'm no Magical Girl."

After saying that, she turns to Eva and rubs her head gently. "Mother... after she noticed that your shirt was still whole when it should not be, she cut it up herself, then sewed it back together. Just like I do, she will love you no matter what."

Huh... so your sudden thought was wrong after all.

But this is weird... and nice and good and... a lot of things. You look up at Bianca. "But... Mommy hates Magical Girls... are you sure?"

You heard her crying and swearing before, when she thought you were not around...

She stays quiet for a while and you just go back to leaning against her while she thinks. Eva does the same and you can listen in on big sister's calm heartbeat.

"This... is complicated. I'm not sure if what mother feels can be called hatred, but it's not far off. And I can't tell for sure if it is still what she told me with how I live far away. Mother is not fond of magic, or Magical Girls, in any way... but she wouldn't want people killed for something they have no control over."

Her voice sounds a little weird with you having an ear at her chest, a little vibrating... but the words are clear nonetheless.

"Most of all, though..."
A pair of arms squeezes you tight once more. "Most of all, you two are her babies. She does not hate you and never will."

Oh.

No more words are said after that; you just hug your big sister happily. You feel much better now, after she accepted what you are.
She is so warm...

[X] Once your Mother is back...

You snuggle with big sister a little longer, the heavy load finally off of you. It feels good that she knows and stays with you.

You think about telling your mother once she gets back, but... you are not sure just yet.

But what you want to do right now... you have been sitting around for a while. Rico is usually the one to do things and you love cuddling with your sisters, but with everything out now... you want her to see!

"Big sister?"
She turns her head to you after a moment and you can tell Rico is listening, too. "Um... do you want to see our magic?"

Both of your siblings give you a look, but you just watch Bianca with curiousity. Your magic is nice and she will definitely like it, too. "Mommy goes to the market on Wednesdays, so she won't be back soon."

Your big sister looks at you a moment longer, then she smiles and lets go of you. "If you want to do that, go ahead."

You beam at her and jump up, then take her hand and pull her along to the basement. Rico seems to like the idea as much as you do; she skips by your side, curious where you want to go.
Once you wander down the stairs, your sisters look at you again and you tilt your head in wonder. "Is something wrong?"

"Eva... you never liked going down here."

Oh, right. You give Rico a wide smile and point downwards. "I'm better now; it isn't that scary anymore."

At least it does not feel that way; you have your magic and then there is always light... and looking backwards, you are followed! There he is, the little spy!
"Ludger, come!"

He was following you without any noise, but now he yips and runs through Bianca's feet, then comes with you into the room. Light switch, light switch... there.

You turn on the light after a few seconds, even when it is pretty weak after all. Your sisters look around and you beam at them. "No one can see us down here, it is perfect!"

Both of them share a look and big sister shrugs, then she closes the door and sits down against it; Ludger comes to lie down next to her while you and Rico go further into the room. It is a little embarassing, but you can bear with it. It is just your big sister watching.

When you transform in an aura of light, so does your twin. You both stand still for a moment for Bianca to look at you, then you float over to Rico. "Here, you have wings, too! Come on, come on!"

Then you guide her through the same things you did when you tried flying; it is so much fun to float around!

Your big sister just watches you with a smile, one hand on Ludger's head. The corgi is watching with her and you wave from right under the ceiling.

Rico is having fun, too... but you want to show Bianca things, so you come back down after a while; she sits there and looks at you a little longer, then she gets up without a word and moves to you. "So you have the basics of flight... stay still for a moment."

You do so and she starts tapping around on your suits; it does not feel like much happens, but you can hear the knocks her fingers produce. Actually, there is a slight shine to the suits now... you are not sure this was there before.

Bianca keeps quiet as she works at whatever she is doing... and then she puts a hand on your weapon, a silent question. You let go and she takes it to look closer.

When she wants to give it back, you call it back to you from her hand and big sister is actually surprised. So is Rico, who looks at the scepter. "Hey, that looked neat! Do it again!"
Um... you guess so?

After a moment of thought, you throw your scepter a few metres away so it lands on the ground, then call it back to your hand. Rico claps happily, then throws her own weapon... only that it does not come back.

"Huh?"

Now Bianca snickers behind you and goes to get the scepter. "Every weapon is unique, even when your scepters look similar. Eva can recall hers, but you can't... there should be something else it does, though."

She gives the weapon another look and a swing, but nothing happens. "You will find out in time."

Of note, Rico's Modifier Save allows her to reuse a previously rolled modifier roll however long she wants in a battle; which means that once she rolls high, she can keep using this roll instead of rolling again

Your sister looks over her own weapon and shrugs, then big sister becomes more business-like again. "What spells do you have?"

You take over from this point and motion at yourself. "I can heal a bit and Rico... I think Rico's is a damage spell, but it's weak."
"Hey!"

Bianca thinks over that while your sister grabs you under the arms and starts tickling you. "Hm. A moon that heals and a sun that damages... maybe it burns..."

You want to ask what she is mumbling about, but you are too busy laughing under your sister's attack; Rico stops after a while, but you both hang in the air by that point, panting. "You should know that all Magical Girls have a theme; it can be basically everything, but their names and transformation phrases are always connected to it in some way. You are Sun and Moon, so it's pretty obvious what your themes are."

You look at each other over the explanation. It does make sense if you look at it like that...

Line Break Recognised
. . .

She has you use your spell on a few things, but nothing happens; no one is hurt, so nothing is supposed to happen. You can not look at Rico's spell because you do not want to break anything, but explain it as best as you can to your big sister.

She listens closely and seems to think about it a lot, but does not say much more. She just ruffles your hair when you are done and leads you back up.

Rico is as curious as you, but you know Bianca will say whatever she thinks about when there is something important to it.

You spend the rest of the day just playing with your big sister, the relief over not being hated still clear in your minds. You also help with making lunch and dinner... and think about telling your mother, but you do not feel well about it still. Even when big sister told you it would be fine... things would definitely change.

...

Later. You will do that later.

In the end, Bianca even helps you with your homework... she does not need to, but does it anyway. Now you just sit here and work through another math problem while she looks over your shoulder; Rico writes away just as fast.

"You got pretty good at math."

Huh? Oh.

Now that you think about it... Rico quickly glances at the door, but you can hear the TV going; your mother is a few rooms away, but you keep your voice down anyway. "Um... actually, we forgot something about our magic."

You completely forgot to tell her about the connection. It is just there and you do not really mind it at all... it feels normal already and Rico beams at your big sister. "We can feel each other and our feelings and stuff. And we got smarter and can do math now."

That... is somewhat right, but makes no sense; looking at your big sister's face, she thinks the same thing. You quickly pull at her sleeve to get her attention, then point at your forehead. "It's... Rico and I can... uh... share?... our feelings and I can tell what she thinks and... and we already found out how to stop her from feeling when I am hurt and we can move each other."

Bianca gives you a long look, her face completely calm. Then she does the same to Rico before nodding at both of you. "I see. How far does your control go?"

Now you look at each other for a moment and your twin shrugs. "I think there is still more we can do, but..."

She shrugs again and you just nod. It is still weird, especially when explaining it to someone else; you just feel how it is.

Bianca thinks about that and shrugs in the end. "It might be useful later."
She does not say any more... but when you turn back to your work, you can see a relieved smile on her lips for a moment... from the corner of your eye.

Huh...
. . .
