    Okay so to tie this all together since this character creation has gone so long I've forgotten stuff.

    We're a millenia Bayushi warrior, looking for love. We also have family ties to the Unicorn and inherited their love of horses although we're alienated from our family because they can't support the third child and also acts of piracy. We're creative and charming but have a trouble that due to those qualities (and possibly our deniability as a Ronin) people often use us as a problem solver. We've taken up the duty of locating the lost hantei princess for whatever reason, seems like its actually politically preferable she never reappear lest she be anything except acceptably mediocre. Oh and someone hates us, Probably related to the problem solver stuff, or maybe the piracy?
    We've got high(? I assume?) fire and air meaning we're a technically adept fighter, but I worry about that low earth as we probably can't take a hit very well.

    I'd rather avoid more write ins as it feels we've got a lot going on already so more elements that might not tie in neatly

    If you want to know the exact description of most of the choices here a simple search of on google will tell you exactly "anxieties/passions l5r" In fact if QM is going by the book conspiracy will mean we are privy to some grand conspiracy and that we are constantly worried about it. So ironically its just going to add more stuff into the mix.

    And Rings in this system are less strength, agility, etc. And more a characters inclination/aptitude towards a certain way of solving things/doing things. The QM could explain it better I'm sure.
     
    Rings are not innate states, but an accumulation of how good you are at a given "Approach"

    Air - Approach something with grace, cunning, precision and trickery.
    Earth - Approach a problem with caution, drawing from memory, patience and planning.
    Fire - Approach a problem with intensity, raw intellect, "out of box" thinking and speed.
    Water - Approach a problem in a relaxed manner, charm, observation and "mingling in"
    Void - Approach a problem by looking into the connections between people and thing, your inner self or beyond mortal keen.

    Each Element is further modified by the relevant skill.

    There are also derived stats. Our high Fire and Air makes us attentive, able to react fast to threats and helps us take some more Fatigue. Our low Earth means we do not handle stress or exhaustion that well.

    We are a glass canon in all sense of the word.

    So yeah lets see if this works. I'm thinking with us having a blood feud everyone who is somebody knows who we are and considering we were casted out I don't find it strange if we have whispers of poverty. And I just find the sohei monks interesting so we befriend one and travel for some time and he teaches us some more skills.

    @delethiel have you considered putting up some lore/mechanics posts? I think they could spur some discussion and it informs the player more about the setting/rules.

    Alright, I'm convinced to take this option. I gotta wonder if in these times that we turned to the Brotherhood of Shinsei growing up.
     
    Some notes on the recent years of the Scorpion:

    • There was an urban boom, that led to an increase in luxury goods, entertainment and other services - specially after the devastation of Crane coast.
    • The urban outcast and merchant castes were empowered in said urban spaces, through cornering the services required for the metropolis of Ryori Owari and rise of speculative rice lending.
    • The Scorpion have had a secret alliance with the Lion until weeks ago. This lasted almost a decade, with many samurai serving and even training together.
    • The Scorpion have been attacking the Crane relentlessly; any Scorpion active in the last year's must have got some enemies among the Crane clan.
    • The Scorpion have been embarrassing the Unicorn at court, specially setting up the Imperials and the Phoenix against them.
    • Bayushi Shoju, the Scorpion Clan Champion and Daimyo of the Bayushi Family, is a personal friend of the Emperor and regarded as an uncle by the eldest imperial scions.
    • The son of the Champion, Bayushi Dairy, is the permanent companion of the leading Imperial Prince, second only to the Imperial Heir.
    • The Scorpion have tried to take over the pirate and criminal assets across the River of Gold, but such efforts have failed because of a mysterious criminal mastermind called "Tamiko".
    • The Scorpion were not allowed to be part of the Autonomous Administrative Zone of the River of Gold. Nevertheless, they have a small advisory body there.
    • The Scorpion have most courts in lockdown, and increased cultural reach. The only significant challenge to this influence are the Imperial Legions and Emerald Office.
    • The Emerald Champion, Doji Satsume, is as murdered by the Loyalists, a group of reactionary nobles that believe the Throne to be under threat. One of the most important Loyalist members is Bayushi Shoju. He believes the Emerald Office has to be controlled by someone devouted to the Empire and/or easily controlled. A powerful Emerald Champion, he believes, would cause a succession crisis.
    • The breach of the alliance and war with the Lion has ruined those plans. The Lion control two thirds of the officer positions in the Legions and are some of the favorites for Emerald Champion.

    Hmm so it seems our Clam is the foremost at the moment. But the war with the Lion is going to make things hard for the clan. I can't imagine the other clans are happy to have the Scorpion in a position if such influence. No doubt they'll provide support to the Lion if not outright fight.
