L5R: Summer Comes In Crimson

[X] We were kharmically tied to a kid of your liege; when they died before adulthood, you were entrusted their fated weapon (Bayushi, Katana)

I like the Kharmic tie, our it adds something to our desire for love.

What about Ninja-to? Or would that be distinct from shinobigatana?
Well the Ninjato in irl is a unconfirmed(no documents or evidence) ninja weapon.

In l5r the shinobigatana is a scorpion creation which is an evolution of the ninjato (does exist in l5r) its essentially a bit shorter katana in the sheath of the regular sized katana. Since the blade is shorter the draw time is much faster than most people expect when they first see the sheath.

Edit-
Its also concealable so that great. And I found the stats I was looking for.

@delethiel I'm curious about the stats for our shinobigatana. Tried finding it online couldn't get much. I know its similar to the katana but unique to the scorpion.

The shinobigatana has the katana stats, but trade a bonus of deadliness when wielded two-haded in exchange for being concealable and hitting at range zero.

Yeah thanks. After some more thinking I would rather have a katana and some sort of connection to our family than to another family and you can't get a katana unless you steal/loot/get it via gift. Plus the other leading vote has the item be a Ono which is a war gear and it can definitely cause issues social wise.

I mean, Wargear only penalizes when "wielded", or "readied." Keeping you Ono wrapped and bond or your armor in its box has no problem.

I mean keeping it wrapped/in a box definitely has its own issues. We might not get a social penalty that way but we would have to spend time to get it out and ready it. And our shinobigatana isn't the best primary weapon to be wielding out in public because its forbidden.

The question that's running through my head is if we get tied to our liege's dead child, and we're functionally a ronin, what's gonna stop the Scorpion Clan heads from keeping a leash on us in order not to lose whatever potential that child held?

Not sure what the question is exactly. The child is dead. And karmic ties are very important and so we were given the sword that was to be the childs since they're dead and it's all that's left of them. That's that.

Apart from that we are a ronin in all sense of the word. Meaning we hold no obligation to our clan/family beyond what we wish. And likewise they hold no obligation beyond what they wish. We are already on a task on behalf of the scorpion so they will be keeping tabs on us anyway, not because of the karmic tie we had. Better that we have a Baysuhi who we have a relationship with after we chose the previous options to lessen family opinion.

You already have three swords in between katana, wakizashi and shinobigatana. But if you really want a second katana maybe you can write in some other tie to another group that gets you a katana?

Maybe some service with the Kaiu, or the friendship of a Tsi?

My concern is if we're gonna be guided towards whatever paths the child was going to take before death, not to be a replacement for that child, but as consequence of being tied to him. I may not be familiar with how kharmic ties work, and what's considered the norm.

I'll be honest I didn't realize what Daisho meant in the item section lol. Until I searched it up. I do want to get that connection with our family. Can we switch out the katana with another item? Or can it have a special quality?

A karmic tie is a when 2 people have ties form their past lives(hence karmic/karma). And so the 2 will have their paths cross and generally be supernaturally aware of each other.

Now since the the perosn who was our karmic tie is dead there is no more connection. So there is no connection to worry about

Well, it would have special meaning for those that knew what it is, but yeah, it could easily be swapped for another Rarity 7 or below item that makes sense. It could also be interesting to be from a dead Shiba, due to the twin connections to kharmic ties and Bayushi/Shiba.

Yep, it is all in the past. As we know, once people die, they are just gone, never, *ever*, **ever**, coming back.

Pick one of the following skills as a hobby:

[] Aesthetics

[] Composition

[] Smithing

[] Culture

[] Government

[] Medicine

[] Theology

[] Fitness

[] Meditation

[] Tactics

[] Commerce

[]Labor

[]Survival

[] Command

[] Games

[] Performance

What would your parents say about Nobu? As it benefits, this is gonna be a chaotic result: pick as many choices you want.

[] Your parents endorsed your hobbies and explorations, and they actually lament you not getting to reach your potential. Of course, this may be because their duties and legacies were successfully projected on your siblings.

[] Your parents resent your siblings and weirdly you, thinking you should have been the one heading the household or bridging relationships.

[] One of your parents used to have your pirate alias before you were born.

[] The seashells are all that you know of one of your parents and they wish you to let go of them.

[] Your parents were always distant, perhaps even to neglect. When your lord's family tied your fate to their scion, they ended up being more of your parents than anyone else.

[] It was only the two of you when your siblings left for training. You were there for each other, but there was no hiding the wounds and pain.

[] The family was quite extensive, so no matter how many quarrels there were, there was always someone to take your side and provide for your needs.

[] Your Unicorn and Scorpion parents had widely different opinions about you; one was pretty loving and supportive while the other was harsh and distant.

[] They are baffled that you are not married yet.

You can't put that there and expect me to not try and make this into a Dread Pirate Roberts joke.
[X] One of your parents used to have your pirate alias before you were born.
The scorpion have used this alias since before the Battle of the White Stag, blaming things on a foreigner is the perfect excuse as long as you never get caught.

[X] Fitness

It's very important for combat and has lots of general uses.

Does the option above have a part cut off @delethiel?

Your family has kept the name Robauto for themselves for a while, every generation one of them spending their youth as the infamous corsair of the River of Gold, legendary founder of the Firefly Clan and cursed by spirits and fortunes alike.

As you graduated to adulthood, you decided how to present yourself to the world. It mattered little before, but may matter even less now that you are a noble in the waves. This influences or pronouns mostly, in rare cases, interactions with certain institutions (Pick 1).

[] [Presentation] Masculine
[] [Presentation] Feminine
[] [Presentation] Both
[] [Presentation]Neither
[] [Presentation] Write-In

While Robauto may have served you in infamy and Nobu in childhood, but you picked another name when graduating to adulthood - and its burdens (Pick 1)

[] [Name] Ajeet
[] [Name] Dalan
[] [Name] Iseul
[] [Name] Tenyu
[] [Name] Write-in

By picking that name, you declare your intentions to draw on the strength and responsibility of that ancestor's legacy. (Pick 1)

[] [Ancestor] You picked the name of one of your ancestors instrumental in the rise of a powerful lord, using cunning stratagems and shrewd advice to secure their ascension. (-3 Glory, +1 Command)
[] [Ancestor] You picked the name of an ancestor that stole knowledge from another school and incorporated it into the secret lore of your family. (-5 Honor, Technique: Soaring Slice)
[] [Ancestor] You choose your name to honor an ancestors that conquered an impressive holding for the Scorpion that remains within your family (-3 Honor, +3 Glory, Passion: Glorious Deeds)
[] [Ancestor] You are named after an ancestor that was an Emerald Champion and personal friend of an Emperor. Your family still has deep ties to the Imperial families and they expect great feats from you (+3 Status, Support of the Miya)
[] [Ancestor] You celebrate an ancestor that achieved a great victory against the Lion after returning to Rokugan. (+5 Honor, Scimitar)
[] [Ancestor] You honor an ancestor that became a Topaz Champion and after a long career became a master at the Kakita Academy. Your family is still seen as some of its patrons. (+3 Glory, +3 Honor, Support of the Kakita Academy)
[] [Ancestor] You are named as an ancestor that once cared for a powerful dark item that has been since then lost. This is a reminder to your family's failure and determination to make it right (-5 Status, +1 Martial Arts [Melee])
[] [Ancestor] You keep alive the name of an ancestor that abandoned their humanity, forever tying your line to the world outside the Mortal Realms (-5 Glory, Distinction: Sixth Sense)
