It's LIke XCOM, But With More Sparkles -- Henshin Heroes & Heroines HQ Quest!

Mm. A roll with no modifiers has a 58% chance of being at least a Flawed Success - if we try to use only two Help/Rescue actions we've got about a 33% chance of them both working. Using three actions gives us a 61% chance of at least two successes, so I figure it's worth it.

(Bearing in mind that I don't know if a perfect success rescues two pods of civilians or not, since we haven't gotten one yet in a situation where multiple units of civvies needed to be saved - that would change the math somewhat.)

Wait, landcrasher increases movement range and decreases damage, but does it actually count as a movement action? The text as written is disagreeing with my mental image. If my interpretation of the words is right, it is literally debuffing Gunleon offensively AND doing nothing productive. Unless I'm misunderstanding the reason he couldn't go up the stairs.

...There's a bit to be unpacked here.

You have a point. Unless we can work in a stunt that has the Landcrasher mow down a good swath of mooks as it charges into the station, I'm leaning more towards the old-fashioned More Dakka approach from Gunleon.
@PurpleProse, can we do something like that and does the special work the way @frozenchicken described? It'll influence the vote I cast.

Oh, I guess I had assumed that Guncrasher reduces damage taken by 1 (making it very good and worth an extra round summoning in many cases), rather than damage dealt (making it, well, not).

Clarification on this point would be appreciated!

Landcrasher decreases the damage taken by 1, since the bike is very big and provides Gunleon with a degree of cover. It also increases his movement range (similar to the SWIFT Trait) which influences things like chases and escapes. It doesn't really affect the action cost of moving between Locations, though. After all, it's a bit hard to pilot a bike that big indoors.

Thanks for the reply!

In that case, it's probably worth summoning the bike, but it doesn't really help Pleiades at this very moment, especially since Moroi is right there...
I suppose if we make clear that calling the bike in will itself disrupt Moroi and give Pleiades some breathing room - otherwise she's going to be targeted like no-one's business.

Chapter 1: Turn 7 - Combat 2 (Turn 3)
TURN 3 – HEROES

LOCATION 1

Fenrir – Be The Best Wolf – 5, 1, 5, +1 = 11 (PURE SUCCESS)

Deprived of his initial target, Fenrir instead turns his attention on the Silhouettes. The Silhouettes turn to face this new threat and raise their swords up in ready stances, ready to strike down the werewolf.

It doesn't do them much good. You actually wince back from the cameras as Fenrir proceeds to slaughter the Silhouettes, literally tearing them apart with his claws and fangs into chunks of vaguely humanoid darkness and misty black ichor.

(4 Damage to Silhouettes. Minion Force defeated)
(1 Damage to Fenrir.)

Shineon – Help Civilians – 5, 4 = 9 (FLAWED SUCCESS)

As it turns out, getting the civilians away from the Shadow Crystals' area of effect seems to work. Shineon goes to work, flickering from person to person and quickly extracting them from their place and depositing them outside the station.

(Civilians Rescued! 2 of 3 at this Location.)

Kekkai-Chan – Help Civilians – 4, 1 = 5 (FAIL)

Kekkai-Chan is trying her best. Really, she is. However, she's pretty clearly outclassed as she struggles to haul people out of the store…

(Nothing Happens)
(+1 EXP to Kekkai-Chan)

Strike Team – Rescue – 2, 5 = 7 (FLAWED SUCCESS)

…thankfully, the Strike Team is there to give her a hand. With the Silhouettes all destroyed, the Strike Team quickly pulls the remaining civilians out of harms way.

(Civilians Rescued! Location Clear!)

LOCATION 2

Gunleon – Landcrasher, Get Closer

Gunleon, seeing the Villain attacking his compatriot, growls under his breath and presses a button on his belt. There's a small musical sting as the belt sings out, in its cheery mechanical voice, 'ZA LANDOCRASHAAAA…'

"Hey, asshole!" Gunleon shouts, drawing Moroi's attention. "Check this shit out!"

There's a brief pause.

Moroi glances around. "…What, pray tell, am I supposed to be 'checking out?'"

Gunleon holds up a hand. "Just give it a second…"

More silence.

"Well…" Moroi raises their hands, "I must say that I'm dissa-"

It should be noted that motorcycles do not have hands to open doors with. Thus, the Landcrasher takes the most direct route and smashes through the doors leading to the Panda Bridge from Ueno Park.

"Her sweet merciful majesty!" Moroi hurls themself to the side as they're almost sideswiped by the huge motorcycle roaring past. Gunleon, meanwhile, leaps over the heads of the Silhouettes, grabs one of the handlebars of the Landcrasher, and pommel-horses himself onto the thing, sliding into an Akira-style stop.

"Warned ya, fancy pants," Gunleon says as he revs the engine.

(Gunleon is now MOUNTED.)

Pleiades – Attack Crystals – 5, 3, -1 = 7 (FLAWED SUCCESS)

Moroi glowers at Gunleon, brandishing their daggers in his direction. "A clever ruse, you lout, but your sneak attack missed."

"That's because it wasn't an attack, dumbass," Gunleon replies and points his chin off to the side. "She's the one you should be worried about."

Moroi turns and lets out a shrill squeak. Pleiades has gotten ahold of two of the Shadow Crystals; one is already half-shattered beneath her bootheel, while the other is resting in the palm of her hand like a glittering balloon filled with light.

"Pity," she says between deep breaths as she flips her alien-alloy dagger into a slashing grip, "they're actually… quite lovely up close."

And then Pleiades lofts the crystal like a tennis ball and bisects it with a neat swing of her dagger.

"Though," she continues, "I prefer jewelry… that doesn't try to kill you."

(2 Damage to Shadow Crystals)

ENEMY ACTION!

VILLAIN

Moroi stands there for a moment, then lets out a wordless snarl and lunges directly at Pleiades. Pleiades brings her dagger up to defend herself, but Moroi suddenly twists mid-lunge and slides a shimmering dagger of dark energy into her ribs.

"Insolent little cow," Moroi hisses as Pleiades screams in pain, "I'll flense, flense, flensity-flense whatever happiness there is in your life from your mind and leave you with nothing but darkness…"

(1 Damage to Pleiades)
(1 Stress to Pleiades)

MINIONS – SILHOUETTES (LOCATION 1)

There's an ominous, bell-like tone as Fenrir finishes ripping the head from one of the last Silhouettes. The blue light from the fallen Silhouettes slither out and over to the Shadow Crystals, which begin to pulse and let out black, ichorous darkness. Suddenly, bodies and armor form as the lights flow into them, forming new Silhouettes.

(Silhouettes at this location are revived and regain 3 Health)

MINIONS – SILHOUETTES (LOCATION 2)

The Silhouettes dogpile onto Gunleon, clearly attempting to block him from coming to Pleiades' aid. It seems they have no self-preservation instinct at all.

(Gunleon takes -1 penalty to Attacking Moroi)

MINIONS – SHADOW CRYSTALS (BOTH LOCATIONS)

No actions this turn. It seems that whatever curative functions the Shadow Crystals had downstairs was fully taken up by the resurrection effect.

Obviously we need Kekkai to shield Pleiadies and have her retreat, Strike Team could engage the mooks that just got revived, Gunleon can power through the minions to attack Moroi with Attack Aggresively an Shineon will help with Attack Strategically.

Don't forget, Pleiades, Gunleon and Moroi are all upstairs in one location, while Shineon, Fenrir, Kekkai and the Strike team are all downstairs in the other.

I don't even know what our luck is right now (Poor Kekkai-Chan).

Priority is to get upstairs, both to help Pleiades, and we've still got civilians trapped upstairs, and we're running out of time.
Question is: if we leave the shadow crystals and the resurrecting minions intact down here, will we end up pincered?

Shineon is the obvious better choice to send upstairs, but I don't know if leaving both rookies behind downstairs is the best idea...
The Strike Team is another option, but with Gunleon mounted up there, the last thing we ought to do is flood that space with even more bodies. Unless the space is big enough up there...
One thing's for sure, Pleiades is in trouble, and we need to protect her in case the worst happens.

Can we bust open a hole in the floor or can Shineon open a hole to the 2nd floor and fly up? With a hole once Pleaides is out of Moroi's range she can jump down the hole and fall back.

If we've saved everyone in the downstairs location, I think we can just let Fenrir clean up. A Help action would be what we would want if Pleiades were, say, being grappled, but she's just injured, so Help would just give her Advantage on her action. Guard is what we want if we want Gunleon to cover her, but since we're still on the clock I think we'd be better off just eliminating the threat and healing her afterward.

@storysmith112358 Yes, you may order the Strike Teams to focus on the Crystals. Just make sure to have the Heroes back them up as well.
They already have backup if Fenrir has enough mentality to focus on the mooks and not on the Strike team.

I'll concede to the help action, but I don't think leaving any regenerating mooks active downstairs where they could escape or pincer us between the two floors is a wise idea.

@PurpleProse can we use Guard to protect another hero from damage? Like using Gunleon to protect Pleiades while she rescues civilian?
Also, we can move Shineon upstair, use Kekko as a support for Fenrir and the Strike team.
We should focus on destroy the crystals in Location 1 while Fenrir clear up the Silhoutte here.

It just occurred to me:
If we're moving almost everyone to the third floor, would it be in Moroi's character for him to shadow-jump back down to the first floor and attack an injured Fenrir just as he's coming down from his fury, trying to kill him out of spite?

That's why I'm instead having Shineon and the Strike Team remain on the first floor to kill the crystals and only have Kekkai-chan moving to the 3rd floor.
