It's LIke XCOM, But With More Sparkles -- Henshin Heroes & Heroines HQ Quest!

@PurpleProse: Well, irredeemable trash humans don't really need their Hopes and Dreams for anything. Like, does anyone actually care about the mental and spiritual well-being of some criminal that brags about eating people?

Seriously, if the conflict is nothing more than "Queen needs her eternal beauty", than only sheer arrogance and spite would keep them from accepting our arrangement. There's plenty of shamelessly terrible people we can sacrifice, who would just be imprisoned forever or executed anyways.
...Not only "No", but fuck no. Putting aside that "in prison for a crime" does not automatically equal "guilty of the crime", I refuse to treat human beings as disposable assets, on principle, period, end of story. I will vote for literally any plan/vote arrangement that opposes this sort of monstrosity, and that's my guarantee.

I mean... We have a telepath, Sessyoin can confirm if someone is guilty or not. Besides, I'm talking about the "clearly shouldn't be human" level of irredeemable pricks, the kinds of people who would be laughing dementedly at being saved purely "on principle".

Seriously, if they are already getting executed, why bother protecting their "Hope"? We harvest organs from dead people to use for transplant surgery, so surely we can have something similar where people on death's door offer up their Hope-Dream energy.

So uh how do I find the pricard facepalm reaction to this post. Cause I can't find any better place for this to apply.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but if I know anything about Eternal Queens or the fair folk, it's that possessing both in abundance is sort of their stock-in-trade.

Which is good, because possessing both in abundance is also my stock-in-trade.

Prisoners still have human rights - which is not about them, but about us, and how we treat even the worst people in our society. Perhaps in a more practical dimension, the decision to feed convicts to the fae is way, way, way above our pay grade. And since we still (for some reason) seem to be worried about looking like the good guys, any leak about such an arrangement (which would happen) would be the sort of unholy PR shitstorm that will make the rest of our troubles look quaint in comparison.

I'm not, in principle, against coming to some sort of detente with certain forces of evil, but right now we have slaving alien pirates and soul-sucking dark faeries. Purge the xeno, and suffer not the witch to live.

Because I don't believe in the death penalty, either, but that policy-making is beyond the scope of this quest, but "not feeding people to the literal queen of evil and darkness" is exactly in my line of work.

Plus I guarantee you, 100%, if our telepathic therapist doctor found out we were using her skills to determine it was okay to feed people to the forces of evil, she'd not only quit confirming things, she'd quit our organization and blow the whistle.

I still find it weird we're suppose to protect Actively and Shamelessly Terrible Beings, just because they are technically "human". Like, I'm talking the kinds of people who refuse to be better, who murder and torture just because it amuses them.

People are not cattle, and I refuse to start playing games with which members of the human race count as people. This isn't about how terrible or not terrible these criminals are, it's about us, and our attitudes and perspectives.

Morals matter, and if we only apply them when it's convenient, we might as well discard them entirely.

*cracks knuckles*

All right. To take a different tack.

Even if we were to negotiate it, an arrangement like that won't involve just us - we're a military organization, we don't have any real authority over convicted criminals, much less the power to give them altered fae-related sentences. To make that happen, you'd have to actually change laws. You'd have to have that enshrined in the judiciary, administrated by the same sort of people who administer justice today. (And, uh, good luck getting anybody who has to win an election to spring for "new punishment for crimcrims, we're going to feed them to the evil faeries.") Prisoners have human rights, but if you don't find that compelling they also have legal rights. As before, this is not really about them, but about us - a place where "they're irredeemable so we can do whatever we want" is the law of the land is called a dictatorship.

A place where "I'm a psychic and I say they're irredeemable so we can do whatever we want" is the law of the land is called our dictatorship. We can work on that! But we definitely aren't there yet.

Given that the crystals are the harvesting mechanism, I'm guessing that taking out crystals will lengthen the clock on rescuing them.

Yup, thst's also my line.
Plus, I assume that next turn someone need to destroy these crystal since we have to rescuse the civilian downstair.
I think that the Silhoutte are just the damager, so if we have to fight Minions, I think we should attack the Crystals.

Chapter 1: Turn 7 - Combat 2 (Turn 2)
TURN 2 – HEROES

LOCATION 1

Shineon – Attack Villain – 1, 2 = 3 (FAIL)

Shineon pursues Moroi, launching a punch at the rogue. Moroi titters as they dodge out of the way and effortlessly slice Shineon across the abdomen; a wicked-looking cut that would hurt if it weren't blocked by the shimmering leotard the magical girl wore.

(Miss)
(0 Damage to Shineon (Reduced from 1 by Tough))
(+1 EXP to Shineon)

Kekkai-Chan – Defensive Barrier

Kekkai-Chan scrambles to a safe spot, away from the melee and the swords and the possibility of dying. She hides behind the entranceway of one of the stores and peeks around nervously, then inhales and brings both of her hands to her temples. There's a soft thrumming noise as she summons her psychic power around Fenrir, her irises glowing bright pink as she focuses.

(Defensive Barrier Engaged on Fenrir)
(1 Stress to Kekkai-Chan)

Fenrir – Savage Wolf Fury – 4, 4, 4, -1, +1 = 8 (FLAWED SUCCESS)

Fenrir, meanwhile, is crouched with a hand covering his wounded chest. There's an audible 'lub-dub' of a heartbeat as Fenrir's veins begin to stand out, pulsing with blue light. His body tenses, his teeth lengthening and his claws leaving narrow furrows in the floor. He suddenly snaps into a standing position, his eyes glowing solid blue before he launches himself toward Moroi.

The rogue turns and stabs at Fenrir… only for their dagger to be intercepted by a bright pink hexagonal barrier.

Moroi looks up at Fenrir. "…Nice doggy?"

And then Fenrir slaps Moroi so hard they are knocked into the air, ass-over-teakettle. The werewolf lets out a blood-chilling howl of rage and hunger.

(3 Damage to Moroi)
(0 Damage to Fenrir (Reduced from 1 by Defensive Barrier))

Gunleon – Move

Gunleon, seeing that things seem to be handled down here, races towards the stairs leading to the upper floors. He easily takes them two at a time thanks to his armored suit, then suddenly finds himself obstructed at the top by a phalanx of Silhouettes.

"Oh for fuck's sake," he says as he readies his guns.

Strike Team – Rescue – 5, 2 = 7 (FLAWED SUCCESS)

The Strike Team fall back and focus on pulling the civilians out of harm's way. Like Pleiades, their efforts are hampered by the continual pressure the Silhouettes are applying. Still, they do make some headway.

(Civilians Rescued! 1 of 3 at this Location.)

LOCATION 2

Pleiades – Help Civilians – 3, 1 = 4 (FAIL)

Pleiades is thoroughly overwhelmed by the Silhouettes, who seem fully intent on keeping her away from the civilians. For minions, they're frustratingly competent.

(Nothing Happens)
(+1 EXP to Pleiades)

ENEMY ACTION!

VILLAIN

Moroi hisses and hops to their feet, looking at the mess that Fenrir's claws have made of their very fancy clothes. Moroi does not, however, immediately engage Fenrir. "Not a very good doggy, then. Well, let's see if you lot can keep up."

With a flap of his cape, Moroi pirouettes and vanishes into his own shadow…

…only to suddenly spring up from Pleiades' shadow instead! The phantom thief has little to no time to react as Moroi draws a second dagger with his free hand and rakes it across her back. There's an ominous crackle as Pleiades' eyes go wide and she staggers forwards, her hands going to her head.

(2 Damage to Pleiades, First Band Broken. Status Downgraded to Staggered.)
(1 Stress to Pleiades)

MINIONS – SILHOUETTES (LOCATION 1)

The Silhouettes ready their blades and continue pressuring the Strike Team, fully intending to halt any progress they may try to make.

(1 Damage to Strike Team)

MINIONS – SILHOUETTES (LOCATION 2)

The Silhouettes upstairs, meanwhile, home in around their master and lash out at Pleiades. The ones at the front of the stairs, meanwhile, slash at Gunleon but find their swords useless against his armor.

(1 Damage to Pleiades)
(0 Damage to Gunleon (Reduced from 1 by TOUGH))

MINIONS – SHADOW CRYSTALS (LOCATION 1)

There's a faint shimmer of blue light from the Shadow Crystals, and suddenly the wounds on the Silhouettes slowly close a bit more.

(+1 Health to Silhouettes)

And I guess some other stuff that's less important. We could chase after Moroi - or we could take advantage of the breather to just make the first floor location irrelevant.
